Last minute call in, and they were able to get me in the same day! Kat did an amazing job on my cut and highlight! Throughout the whole process, she communicated everything from A to Z, leaving no suprises at the end. She really took the time to listen and make sure we were on the same page before starting. Kat was great at providing different options to achieve my desired result, including a price points that were comfortable. She greeted me as I walked into the salon, which was very inviting and had a great vibe with all of her father's wood work around the shop intermingled with the great products and goodies of a cool salon.She discussed every aspect of what we were going to do with my hair and then executed it to perfection. I came here because I was burned out on overpriced mediocre to poor performance from Dosha and was very pleasantly pleased with the change. For approximately the same price point I received the service and performance that Dosha promises but doesn't and hasn't been able to live up to for a long time now. Parking was crazy, so come early and prepare to be predatory in your pursuits of a space but, this place is well worth it. I really didn't want to write anything about my experience at LiveEdge, however after reading some of the recent negative reviews I found myself wishing that they had been written before my visit so that maybe I could have avoided going there. My stylist moved far away so I was looking for a new salon closer to home. My hair is long, dirty blonde and thick. I know that it can be a challenge to get my signature platinum look, which is why I am very familiar with the various lightening volumes and what strength is needed to get it to 'lift'. At first I was so impressed with the space and how welcoming my stylist was. She was a great conversationalist and made me laugh more than once which was winning me over right off the bat. I shared my past bleaching experiences with her so that she would know that my hair would need the strong stuff to cooperate. I had asked for a balayage with extra baby-lites near my face. It seemed pretty straight forward so I thought, given that this is a pretty common technique. I have had a balayage every 6 months for the last 3 years, so I was certain I knew what to expect... boy was I wrong. First, she started by half-ass separating my hair into two chunks (top half-bottom half) and loosely clipping it up to where my ends were still hanging down into the area she was about to bleach. I thought, well it's all going to be colored at the ends, so I guess that doesn't matter. Then she started with the bleach, roughly painting it on, NOT blending it AT ALL, and putting PLASTIC WRAP on my head -- wtf?! I asked if the blonde would be blended into my darker blonde roots if she just used a wide-angle brush to paint it and not comb it through or even separate the strands like you would for basic highlights? She said yes, everything would work out fine. Ok. It's different than ALL the other times I have had this done, but ok. I agree with the comment below where the customer felt nickel-and-dimed, because throughout the process she kept saying that I needed this extra treatment which costs an extra $45, and she underestimated the bleach she needed so that would cost more each time she refilled the tray... oh! and I also needed this repairing treatment for another cost, blah blah. This was starting to become an uncomfortably negative experience the longer I sat there. Finally my color was supposedly done and she rinsed my hair and took me to the mirror to check it out. My hair was ORANGE. Not brassy yellow, not golden, ORANGE. The look on my face must've been a doozy because she immediately said, 'oh that will all work out with the toner.' I have been through this before, toner will NOT fix underdeveloped bleach. She put a ton of toner on my hair, which I again was told would cost more due to the amount needed. When all was said and done I left after 4 hours with orange hair and was so appalled I just walked out and cried in my car. After a couple of days I called the salon and asked to have my hair fixed. I was kind of rudely interrogated but it was agreed that I could come back and she would fix my blonde. I went back, feeling really uncomfortable, and again was there for 2-3 hours while the stylist rushed through my color fix. At least the blonde was lighter (still not platinum, because she clearly didn't listen to my advice in the first place) and I was sort of ok leaving it at that. This was until just before I was going to walk out the door she said, "we need to figure out the cost of your color, since we had to do it twice." My jaw DROPPED. I was speechless. You mean to say that I have to pay you MORE money to fix the crappy job you did in the first place? She was totally serious and wasn't about to let me walk out without giving her more money for the fixing products. I reluctantly gave her $30 to cover the bleach and left so upset I could hardly believe it. The icing on this cake is that my hair had spots in it. Not weird streaks, but spots! Chunks of hair throughout my head that were completely un-bleached, so when I tried to wear my hair straight there were obvious dark spots all over in my blonde. I also had very clear brush-marks all around the top of my head which just looked like I had done a home-bleach that grew out. I haven't been able to wear my hair straight since. If I don't curl it or put it up you can clearly see my blotches and lines where the different bleaches were applied. I thought about calling AGAIN, but I was worried that I would again be forced to pay for them to fix their mistakes. All in all, worst salon experience I have had in my life. When I called to complain the other stylists tried to cover for her and explain away why everything happened the way it did, talking to me like I was an idiot who didn't understand the scientific intricacies of hair coloring so I can't judge their methods. I hope they read this and heed my words; stand behind your work and mistakes. The clients opinion is all that matters in this business. read more

Summary: Please go elsewhere. Overpriced and not the right technique & they nickel and dime you for each step of the process. I spent 4 hours in the chair initially and left with grey hair and then spent 2 more hours to correct the initial color. For $330 (including 15% tip) and 4 hours in the chair, (plus 2 more hours for the roots/color to be added) it was not what I wanted. I just didn't want to go back a 3rd time to get no farther than before. I paid for balayage and instead got foiled bleaching (not balayage) and when they said they'd add color, I assumed that meant to get rid of my greys & use a toner. Nope, I had to call and go back in to get a root touchup (they initially wanted to charge me extra) and added toner/gloss! Full review: Red Flag: They ask new customers to sign some sort of 'waiver' to understand that your hair may not turn out exactly as you like. Most clients should know this going in, but why the waiver? I asked for balayage, and wanted honey/caramel/lighter tones of browns and did not want blonde. She said that she'd have to lighten it to the max to "DEPOSIT" color back in because you can't lighten it later. I said that made sense, to go for it. I would like to stress that she said "deposit color" because in the end no color ever touched my hair on the first visit. Even under the dryer, while bleaching, she showed me my super blonde hair & I told her again, that's fine that it's light to get the orange tones out b/c I wanted light browns/caramels and not blonde & that I knew we'd "deposit" color back in. After I was done processing, I assumed she toned my hair & "deposited" color, like we had talked about. Not a problem, but in the chair, we only dried my hair about 75% of the way, since I wanted to leave it curly and was tired after 4 hours in the salon. When my hair was wet it looked like browns, so I was fine with it. When it fully dried, I noticed that I had all of my initial grey hair so I assumed the toner didn't take and my hair was blonde instead of the browns we had talked about. The next day, I called & let her know that I had greys still & that it dried really blonde. She said "Oh yes I thought you wanted the greys to blend in with the blonde". When does anyone leave the salon with their greys!? And they didn't even blend!! She said that it was b/c I didn't ask for a 'root color' which would be $38 on top of the $330 I already paid!! At this point I was on the verge of tears! I asked if she seriously thought I wanted to leave with grey hair and why I'd have to pay for the color to be added, when we kept talking about 'depositing' color to begin with!? She said they would 'comp the roots color this one time'. Whenever I go elsewhere they always lighten, color the roots & tone so it blends! Here it's all 'a la cart' and I didn't know what each process step was! For $230 for just the "balayage" you'd assume color to be included, especially after she kept saying that my hair wouldn't be blonde after she "DEPOSITED" color back in. Even under the dryer, she showed me my hair & said we had to get it as light as possible since we can add color later & then re-lighten. So i was fine with her lightening my color a lot, I was under impression I was getting color after! So I went back in a few days later to get the roots done & gloss added. (2 more hours). Pricing: $228 for balayage. They charged me for balayage, but the true technique of balayage is to "hand paint" and NOT use foils! I paid extra for their balayage & in the end, I got a head full of foils! So if you want true balayage, this isn't the place. I have had a true balayage & turned out really nice...no foils, but this place uses foils. I thought it was a highlight/balayage technique, but nope. AND afterwords, they said that this was ONLY for lightening the hair. If i wanted color to blend it in well, that would've been an extra $38 for the roots, and gloss would be extra too! $56 for haircut (includes $20 discount b/c I got the "balayage"). I wanted a lot of layers & the girl asked me if i wanted them "within or out" I DON'T know! Just layers so I had to keep asking her to take more hair & in the end the hair cut was just average & I still don't have layers, but that isn't as bad as the color issue. $2 for them to ship my hair somewhere instead of throwing it in the garbage (only heard about this fee when they were ringing me up). $43 (15% tip, standard for me) $330 for 4 hours, plus 2 more hours to add color that wasn't added initially I didn't give 1 star, b/c they tried to make it right, but my hair was already messed up so I truly don't think they could've made it what I wanted. I wanted to save time driving to PDX, but in the end I would've saved time & money since I only sit in my other salon's chair for 2-2.5 hours vs. 6!! Please go elsewhere until they get more experience. Would you pay $330 (inc. tip) for what I got? And actually have to pay $38 more for the roots that I was "comped" + gloss. read more

I just loved my experience here. Kat did a partial balayage on my hair after a thorough explanation of all the different options I could do. My hair looks fantastic. It has wonderful depth and it all flows together wonderfully. No zebra stripes or strangely placed chunks of highlight. I was impressed with the level of communication I was given about styles, cost, and processes. The environment was very comfortable. You walk in and it smells like mellow essential oils, no harsh chemicals. I always get headaches at salons, but not here. I have loved calling Live Edge my salon "home" for years as I consistently (every 4 weeks) color my hair to hide premature grey. Simultaneously, despite the coloring, I want hair that is and will remain, strong, healthy, and vibrant. I've chosen Live Edge in part because they invest in product best suited not only for the environment but for the long-term health of my head and hair. Add to that keeping me stylish despite my age (in my 50s now) and I'm a loyal customer. But how wonderful to learn how skilled the staff is at also working with my 20-year-old daughter and whatever interesting color (green one year, pink the next) she has been interested in pursuing. As a mom, I'm glad she can play with her hair cut and color but I feel better knowing we're not plastering our heads in a series of harsh chemicals. Add age-appropriate style to the mix (regardless of our generation) and it's easy to give the welcoming and warm staff 5 stars. [Hint: they also offer a 10-minute scalp massage in the washbowl for $10. It's the best $10 you'll spend in a month! Be sure to be vocal as to pressure preferences as they can offer a variety of options from gentle to very firm.] PS: I've been to a good share of salons over the years prior to Live Edge. I am so sad. I really wanted this to be our new family salon as it is insanely gorgeous, good for the environment, and so close to where we live! Alas, we came away with two very expensive, sloppy kids haircuts. I booked two cuts back to back which prompted the stylist to call me and ask why. When I said it was two kids (5 and 7), I was told that they don't usually work with kids. I mentioned that mine have been going to a kids salon or barber for years and know how to sit still and follow directions. So it was agreed that they could be seen for cuts. As predicted, they sat still and did as they were told. I had to ask for several (what I thought were really obvious) trims to get things straight. Upon looking at the cuts more closely in the days that followed, we found tons of stray hairs on my son and my daughter's hair looks choppy and horrible-like it was cut too short and they were just like "oh well?". I sort of fixed my son's hair but I don't have enough guts to fix my daughter's so I guess we'll just let it grow out and then have a professional fix it. I'm in the process of trying to find a new stylist for myself that is closer to where I live, but the search continues as I can't trust this salon-especially at the prices they charge. read more

I had the best experience today at LiveEdge salon. I have to admit I was nervous about trying the salon because I read a couple of bad reviews. I have very specific ways I like my hair and I don't like a hard sale. Matt was my stylist and he was absolutely delightful. He took his time asking all the right questions about my hair, style, habits, etc. when he started cutting my hair I was very comfortable with Matt and had total confidence in his expertise and vision. I loved my hair when he was through! And the salon!!! If I could design the perfect salon for my tastes and environmental habits it would be LiveEdge. They use earth friendly, organic and gluten free products. They recycle.....a lot! They even recycle hair! Seriously. It is used to make booms to clean up oil spills on the water. How cool is that? And, the very best part, you can bring back certain product containers and have them refilled. You do have to pay but you get a discount while keeping plastic out of the landfills. Kat was also a great ambassador to the salon. She was welcoming and knowledgable. I am so looking forward to my next appointment. read more
