My sister and I were seated on the patio and ordered two of the $15 lunch Flatbread specials: BBQ Chicken, and Florentine Chicken. Both came with a choice if either Caesar or house salads. Our Caesar salads arrived promptly and we dug in. Then after 10 to 15 minutes our flatbread orders were delivered. Each order had a thin, oval-shaped pizza-like crust. The topping of the BBQ Chicken flatbread order has a spicy BBQ sauce a top a medley of grilled chicken, roasted red onions and yellow kernels of corn cut off the cob with bacon and mozzarella. The chicken was barely grilled, and onions, while plentiful had not been roasted at all. On the other hand the roasted yellow corn cut off the cob had been grilled but there was barely any corn (maybe 10 small kernals) on the flatbread. I felt there was an adequate portions of bacon, mozzarella, and cilantro. My sister was happy with the Florentine Chicken, which seamed to have more of its properly aportioned ingredients: grilled chicken with spinach in fontina, grape tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese, bacon, and marinated artichoke hearts. One of the corner pieces I tasted had only cheese, spinach, and artichoke. Besides these deficiencies, we found the service to be excellent, and the al fresco dining quiet and pleasant. read more

Great experience. First Livia has nice decor inside and a nice patio outside. Second it has a nice patio, great for al fresco in nice weather. Livia has a happening vibe. We arrived maybe as late as 2:30 pm but the patio stayed mostly full even when we left an hour or so later. We received good service although it could have been a bit faster and more attentive at times. For example what I ordered is not what they brought. They did make up for the mistake though and expedite bringing me the correct entree. I loved their wild mushroom flatbread on the optional cauliflower crust. Their chicken limone is one of the best especially with the pasta and root vegetables that come with it. We are totally spoiled in the Chicagoland area with a number of excellent Italian restaurants and Livia just adds onto that list with exceptional food. This restaurant looks and feels elegant, despite the affordable prices. Everything from the plating to the service to the furniture gives a more upscale feeling to the restaurant. From the first bite I took of the margherita flatbread I took here, I knew I was in for a special treat. The tomato and basil was so fresh and juicy here, with lots of fresh greens on top, and the EVOO and balsamic worked together wonderfully on a delicious crust. The crispy polenta and wild mushrooms was equally a surprise with the shallots and chili flakes really pairing excellently with the mushrooms and deliciously crispy polenta to provide some contrast. The pastas I tried were some of the best I've had anywhere in this state. I was so happy that the flavor profiles and presentation were uniquely different for each one, really highlighting a variety of different flavors. The sausage arrabiata was nice and bold, with a generous amount of italian sausage that matched well with the roasted peppers and caramelized onions. I loved the texture of the farfalle, highlighting little ridges that helped to carefully hold just the right amount of tomato sauce each bite. The wild mushroom sacchetti is something I've never had elsewhere and I'm a huge fan. With an intensely herby flavor which is enhanced with chili flakes, garlic, and shallots -- it's like an intensely flavorful soup that really elevates the wild mushrooms. A must try dish if you're making a visit here. The pasta bolognese is delicious, with the mafaldine providing a fun amount of ridges in its shape. The meat sauce was nice and hearty and there was just the right amount of cheese to make this full-bodied yet not too heavy. The final pasty I tried was the shrimp and crab angel. I couldn't believe how well the spicy creole cream really brought out the flavor of the shrimp and crab so well. Definitely a great comfort food and delicious combination. I wish I had left more room to try more dessert, as unsurprisingly the tiramisu was bold, fluffy, and flavorful. Based on how well this dessert was done, I'm certain that anything else i tried would be equally good, particularly the ricotta cheesecake, vanilla bean creme brulee, or strawberry crepe cake. Its proximity to Grahams may have influenced my decision this meal, but on the next visit I'll definitely be prepared to cut down a bit on appetizers and leave more room for exploring desserts. Overall, the delicious flavors and quality of these food make Livia worth a special trip if you live anywhere near Geneva. This is a great spot to celebrate a special occasion or visit if you're just looking for some flavorful Italian cuisine. read more

My husband and I met some friends at Livia Italian Eatery for dinner on a Saturday night. Livia is located in downtown Geneva on a beautiful tree-lined street with small businesses all around. We started with appetizers. We got the margherita flatbread and crispy polenta and wild mushrooms. This was a great start to the meal. For an entree I had the Sausage Arrabiata. The sausage was a little spicy but other than that it was very good. I enjoyed the fresh vegetables and sauces used in this dish. For dessert, we had the tiramisu. This was soooooo delicious. First I must say, Blaine was absolutely fantastic. I will absolutely be asking for him on my next visit. Each dish was incredible. Started with the mussels appetizer that truly set up the rest of the dinner. Upon Blaine's recommendation I ordered the evenings chefs special, a tomato based pasta with spinach, mushrooms, and an 8 oz filet. Absolutely f****ing outstanding. And please order the cranberry sour... My two negative thoughts, the deserts were not outstanding. The double fudge brownie? Just a brownie with ice cream. Butterscotch bread pudding just didn't have enough butterscotch to make me feel like I was at grandmas house. And finally the bread, two pieces of bread for the appetizer. Went here on Valentine's Day. The place is very popular for this day. We tried reserving a table two + weeks before the bday and the best we could do was 4pm so get in early! We had the Two Medallions of Beef and the Crab Stuffed Scallions. Both were amazing. For appetizer we had calamari and for dessert we had tiramisu. All dishes were amazing and very well made. Pro tip: at Costco there is a gift card section. It's 75$ for 100$ worth of gift cards. So 25% saved on your first 100 spent. In total our bill before tax was 115$ with one drink each. The atmosphere is great. I found the place a to be properly spaced without feeling too tight in there. I'd say it's a great atmosphere that makes the night memorable for sure. read more

Bad service can ruin an otherwise good experience. That's what happened last night. Our server (who shall remain anonymous) was about as bad can be. Have you ever been served by someone who you can tell just doesn't want to be there? Starts off with indifference. Then doesn't follow up, forgot blue cheese olives for martini. The manager actually stopped by and asked how things were going.....he got the olives. No questions asked about how are food was or if we cared for any other food items. We ordered the pasta lobster Diablo and they changed the style of meal from lobster chunks & shrimp to include 2 halved lobster shells on top of the pasta, unfortunately only one had any meat in it. The other was totally empty. The chicken limone (I've ordered many times and a favorite meal). They changed this from tender boneless chicken breast to chicken with skin and bone (which usually keeps moisture) that was so dry I couldn't eat it. We started with the calamari and wedge salad. Both were good, but I felt the portion size the the calamari was really small. For dinner, I had the white fish, and it was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. Flavor was terrific and the fish was cooked perfectly. My wife had the beet salad. I heard good things about this establishment from friends so I was super eager to try it! From start to finish we had a bad experience. Even though we requested patio seating in our reservation, the general manager was very adamant about not allowing it which defeated the entire purpose of booking this resteraunt. He was insanely condescending and uptight to our party which already left a bad taste in our mouth. Alas we got seated inside. The server was inattentive and our food took over 35 min to arrive. When it arrived the pasta was undercooked and had a hard, chewy texture and the dish was lacking a sauce to pasta ratio. So for a place that prides itself on pasta this was a big let down. To make things worse our waiter shushed our group while we were talking. Being shushed like we were children in Sunday school was completely unprofessional and unnecessary. After all if you had seated us outside like we requested maybe the noise wouldn't have been a problem. We always get the zucchini fries and the honey ricotta and the flatbreads (they are all good). The cocktails are incredible, lemon Trivolta is my favorite! The people who own this also own Gia Mia... if I had to pick I wouldn't be able to choose which is better, they are both 10/10. Many selections and great specials. I loved the option we had tonight to build our own charcuterie board - and it was fabulous! Everything was fantastic - service, drinks, food, dessert. For the four of us, we had various dishes - 8-finger cavatelli, 2 different filet medallions dinners, eggplant Parmesan, and crème brûlée, lemon sorbet and blueberry gelato (mistake, so it was comped). I'm dreaming about the meal I had here. It was so delicious and unique- worth the 45 minute drive from my house. The service was excellent- from the hostesses to the general manager/owner to the top notch service at the table. I wish I took pictures, but I have a feeling it wouldn't do it justice. We had the zucchini fries for an appetizer. This dish was good but the star of the show was my dinner- Wild Mushroom Sacchetti. It was so flavorful- creamy, slightly spicy with a truffle flavor. Please don't ever take this off the menu. My friend's dish was also really good- Chicken Milanese. Chicken was breaded just right and pasta came with a delicious slightly creamy parmigiana sauce. We at here for dinner and were very impressed with the food, service and atmosphere. The Bruschetta was amazing and one of the better ones I've had outside of Italy. We were so impressed with our starter and entree that we splurged for dessert. The triple layer cake was the perfect balance of sweet, decadent without being too rich/sweet. We loved our food so much we came back for lunch the next day to try their salads. The Fall Harvest Salad is quite possibly the best salad I've ever had! Third time's a charm. We dined at Livia last evening an our experience was wonderful. Our server and the food were outstanding! This was our third time at this restaurant and honestly, would not have tried it again except we were invited by my daughter, who absolutely loves the place. Our first two tries were not as good, but this time we loved it. I started with the old-fashioned. It was good. The calamari was really good. The breading was light and it was very tender. The grand kids loved the bread with honey. For an entree, I had the short ribs. They were so tender and perfectly seasoned. They came with mashed potatoes and lots of roasted vegetables.
