I usually only write Yelp reviews for our international travel, but my wife and I have started making Fire + Wine our Friday happy hour tradition, and it's quickly become one of our favorite spots in St. Charles. The happy hour is an outstanding value, with half-price small plates and $8 glasses of wine. We've tried several items, but we keep coming back for the steak bruschetta, black pepper shrimp, and crab cake. Every one of them is consistently delicious. What really keeps us coming back, though, is the service. The bartenders make the place feel welcoming and comfortable. Lauren, Ben, and Joe have all taken great care of us and make it easy to relax after a long week. Lauren, in particular, always remembers us, is friendly, attentive, and makes everyone at the bar feel like a regular. You can tell she genuinely enjoys taking care of her guests. If you're looking for a great happy hour with excellent food, fair prices, and a staff that makes you want to return, Fire + Wine is well worth a visit. read more

We wanted to try the new Fire & Wine in St. Charles, it was a Friday early evening, and the place was packed, even the parking lot was almost full, there are still some restaurants waiting to be opened, so I think parking will be a problem once the other restaurants are opened. The restaurant decor is nice, but it was very loud, you have to really speak up to hear each other. The service was good, we got our table real quick as we had an reservation, and the waiter was nice and attentive, that's why I gave it one more star because the food was really disappointing: my friend ordered the French Onion Soup and Mushroom Ravioli, and I had the Apple Walnut Salad and the Grouper special. My friend's Ravioli was too rich that she could only ate two, my salad was over dressed and uneven; my fish was way overcooked, it was a pity as it was a really nice piece of fish and I could tell that it would be delicious if it had been cooked properly. Overall, only the Onion Soup was OK. With their price point, I have lots of restaurants to choose from, so I don't know if I would go back. read more

Ok it just opened but this isn't at Glen Ellyn's level yet. The space is impressive with a ton of outdoor seating to help for 7 months of the year. Had cocktails and ordered appetizers - Zucchini fries were very good. Mussels tasted good but several were dead in the bowl. Mentioned to the waitress to no real acknowledgment. Had mushroom ravioli and vodka pasta as main course. Both were good after the inclusion of meat but still weren't great. Service was fine and not that I needed a handout but didn't pick up on a birthday in my group and just brought the check after dinner. Fire and Wine is brand new in St. Charles. We went on a Monday (half-price pasta) and it was packed. Everything was sparkling, from the silverware to the glassware. I started with and old-fashioned and it was great, a little on the sweet side for most people, but I like it that way. I also had a glass of the cabernet with dinner that I really liked. The menu is similar to that of some of the other restaurants in the group (Ellas, Livia, Gia Mia) but a little more extensive. The by-the-glass wine list is considerably larger than many places. For our group of five, four of us chose the Lobster Fra Diavolo. It was delicious, with just the right amount of spice. One of our four noticed there was no lobster in their pasta. We mentioned it to our server and the chef personally brought four extra bowls of lobster for us (note: only one dish was missing the lobster). Multiple people came to check on us. They really handled it well. We ordered a couple desserts to share but the standout was the Butterscotch Buddino. It was like a Crème Brûlée without the crispy top. So delicious! Could immediately tell that the staff was excellent based on the way they treated us like they were hosting us in their own home. A great addition to St. Charles! The ambiance is moody yet modern and inviting. The menu is big with a variety to choose from. Service was wonderful, from our server to the speed of drinks arriving to the bussers clearing plates. It was very clean and we can't wait to go back. First, I want to start out by saying this review is not food specific. The food was good. Some of the items we had wasn't over the top, however a few of them were. My Blackened Pork Chop was cooked perfectly and my wifes pasta was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Our dessert took forever, which in my opinion the bartender forgot to ring in and after a long while stated they were going to go check on it. This doesn't surprise me as this review is specific to the bar. I am still trying to determine if our service was based upon how we were dressed or that I was there with my wife. Both of us had just gotten off work and I guess you have to dress appropriately to get service as our money doesn't spend there. That remains to be determined. Additionally, the bartender seemed more focused on the femail clientele rather than the bar itself. If you were females grouped together or by yourself, it seemed to gather his attention more. I am not sure if he was looking for a sugar mama or a new baby mama. This isn't deragotory towards female, as this review gets better with more content. Throughout this experience the entire male bartending staff seemed to be overly focused on their female guest. The one male bartender who attempted to wait on us, was slow to say the least and our drinks were empty for several times throughout our experience. HOWEVER, if you were just females at the bar, they had HIS attention. My wife and I both work in the industry and tend to have a better understanding. It was a Monday. They do half price pastas on a Monday. The place was packed. HOWEVER, there were 3 fledged bartenders and a bar service assistant that was promoting his side gig of singing in Aurora to the couple sitting next to us. What appauls me the most about this experience is the disparity this all male bar staff had towards the female clientele. One, that was their focus. Two, conversations about the females I found offenseive in nature. I never caught the name of our bartender. He had a dirty blonde hair and a peaky blinder hair style as I am a big fan of that show. As a matter of fact, all of the bartenders probablly could had stood in on that show with how they viewed woman. Towards the end of our experience, a lone female sat at the end of the bar. As I was already upset about our bar service, I was watching the bar to try to give some offering of why service sucked as bad as it did. Lack of training (bar tender forgot items on the guest next to us and proclaimed it was his first Monday), Same said bartender seemed to be getting coached at the end of the bar by the yet again male manager in a blazer. This is the part that gets me. Reference said female above. This guest caught particular interest to the smaller bartender who directed his FULL attention to that guest. Not sure if he knew who it was or what, but then went down towards the service bar (did I mention my wife and I work in this industry) had a conversation with all of the 'men' behind the bar including the male manager on duty. Every last 'man' behind the bar was talking and laughing amongst themselves looking at this lone female guest, who in my opnion was not aware of what was going on. She was sitting behind a lamp either reading or doing something on her phone. After the talking amongst the male staff, the tallest bartender with the cheesey mustache, unshaved looked 'acted' like he was ringing out a ticket at the register in front of us and looked back at the male staff and 'mouthed' "SHES HOT"...... So the question begs.... Is that what this company who JUST opened up in May is about? Hiring staff, male bartenders who view female guest as a piece of meat? Oh the male manager.....That was part of the conversation and the follow up conversation of "SHES HOT" specifically went down and addressed the lady sitting at the bar inquiring about her experience. In conclusion, our service was based upon a bunch of men bartenders who viewed their female guest as objects. This makes in my opinion the bartenders chauvinists and sexists. I was there with my wife. My wife who is a very great female operator. One of the best if not the best restaurant operators I have ever seen work. I am not just saying that because she is my wife, I am saying that because of the respect i have for her and every successful female operator. I have two daughters. This embarassed me for the great men who support woman for being successful in their own right, not because of body image. Additionally, it was hands down the worst bar service we have ever had in not just the area, but Chicago in general. So ladies be aware, if you are a female with no male companion, you are being viewed as an object, not as a guest at this location. read more

We had a phenomenal dinner, beginning with a warm welcome from the host team and ending with a perfect round of post-dinner decafs. Our server, Soren, provided impeccable service, and the kitchen delivered beautifully presented, piping-hot plates. The value here is excellent, and we can't wait to return! Went for dinner on a Wednesday night with a group, our table was ready when we arrived, which was great. However we had 24 people and only one waiter was assigned to our 2 tables. We didn't get a our drink order placed until after being there for 30 minutes. The restaurant is very loud, we had to talk loudly to even hear each other. After our food was ordered, it took an additional 40 minutes to get our food. The good news is everyone was satisfied with the food. After we were finished eating, it took an additional 15 minutes to get our check and 10 more to get the final receipt. Beautiful dining space, unfortunately there are some issues, the tables are very close together for parties of five or more, they seated a large party next to us where 10 people were crammed into a booth, there was also a party in the back taking up all the room so you couldn't even get to the bathroom, the patrons were extremely rude and acted as if they owned the whole restaurant. Now to the food: the food is in no way as good as the other establishments, same dishes, totally different flavors. My daughter ordered the spicy chicken tortellini, bland sauce, watery, and the chicken, the chicken was like eating a racquet ball, chicken should not crunch even you eat it. The rest of the meal was ok, we saw our server twice Bryan, very nice but not super attentive. I'm really disappointed in the quality, to have a disgusting meal at $25 is unacceptable. BEAUTIFUL inside - staff is VERY attentive and customer service is some of the best I've experienced in a LONG time. Our waiter was Walter, who was FABULOUS - so attentive and professional. Dinner for four on Wednesday 5/20 with reservations and seated upon arrival. They were busy. This is a new restaurant but by a familiar well-established restaurant company: BG Hospitality Group, which also manages the six Gia Mia, locations, the Livia location in Geneva, the Moto Imoto location in St. Charles and the three Ella's Italian Pub locations...but this is the first time they designed a restaurant from the ground up - and they did a wonderful job - A+ with a very classy look and layout. The food is good, but they have only been open a few days, so let them work out the kinks. The portions are fine and the service was exceptionally quick for the food and drinks but then became slow for the desert and bill. They messed up our pizza order, so they brought the correct one out quickly and a take home box for the incorrect one - very nice, appreciated and unexpected. The pasta (Rigatoni Bolognese) and fish (Blackened Whitefish) were cooked properly but the rigatoni was a little too al dente and the fish was perfect and so were the fingerling potatoes. The deserts: Butterscotch Budino and Ricotta Cheesecake . . . just say yes, you won't be disappointed. We all had fun. The atmosphere was nice. The seating was well thought out, and the noise level was just right for a restaurant of that size and pricing is very reasonable. They will get better and stronger with each passing week that goes by, is worthy of a "highly recommended" . . . and a welcome addition to the East side of town. read more

I went to eat here a few nights ago with my husband, my experience started off rocky. There was many flys EVERYWHERE. They kept landing by my water and food, I was sitting inside aswell. On top of all the bugs flying around it was very loud and I wanted to enjoy a nice date but it was overwhelming and noisy and HORRIBLE. I got a salmon salad and there was also a hair on the plate. When I told the server that there was a hair, he did not believe me and seemed like he wanted to refuse to take the food back. It was quite over priced for being a complete mess! I wish I could be as positive about this restaurant as many of the other patrons. We arrived promptly at our 4:30 reservation on a Sunday and were seated next to the hostess desk. Throughout our meal we had to listen to the discussion of the three women there as to who should be seated where. There should have not been a table where we were seated. Next the waitstaff Lily, sold my husband and son a new wine that she said was great and was on the special menu. They both agreed to try it. 10 minutes later Lily came back to tell them that they had run out of that wine and they should choose another! (4:30 on a Sunday when the wine was on the special menu?) I had wanted a frozen drinks but was told they don't do those and finally choose a margarita with very light salt. I ended up wiping the heavy salt off the edge of the glass. The manager who was very personable came over to talk to us and we did tell him of our experience so far. He said they would take very good care of us and was sorry. While he was talking to us the wine came and my son picked up his glass with the mouth mark on it and handed it to the manager! He apologized quickly and said he would get a new glass and be right back. That took 10 minutes as our food came and I told my husband to start eating and I would wait for the wine so that we could toast as a family. My husband had the mussels and he loves mussels. The mussels couldn't have been any smaller than the ones he received! Many were just floating in the broth as they were no longer in their shell. The dish had been advertised as spicy but was very bland as we all tasted it when my husband complained about the taste. I had the Scottish salmon salad along with the onion soup. My son had the blackened white fish and my husband ordered the special of the variety of filets with toppings. They were all good but again the noise of the reception desk was very intrusive with our dinner. For $200.00 we would want a better atmosphere and less noise as we love new restaurants and eat out often. We did not have dessert. I really wish our experience had been better. read more
