This place is awesome! Don't let the 'off the beaten path' industrial looking location deter you; IT'S WORTH IT! I'm from out of town and went in just to see what was what and talk with some like-minded people. Because of their amazing selection of new and used vinyl, I left having purchased a bevy of killer albums of music I knew I'd have a hard time finding elsewhere at the high-quality of their stock. They said they'd safely box it all up for me and ship it to my home. The guys who run the place are super passionate and knowledgeable about vintage audio equipment, and have an interesting stock for sale. Their vintage Marantz is to die for! While they love their tube gear, they're also just as informed on solid state. They like to say their vinyl collection is "curated" and that's probably a great way of putting it, due to the selection they have (WIDE range of genres and artists) - AND, every album I removed from its sleeve was in excellent shape. While they're not 'graded,' I saw nothing I'd consider less than VG+ for the condition of vinyl itself. They take the quality of their inventory very seriously. Some of the jackets show wear but you're going to get that with older pressings; that's called 'life.' That said, they had many first pressing albums that had pristine covers as well, and many new/unopened items too. Often the price of one album with a worn cover was higher than that of the same album with a nicer cover - clearly indicating the value is the vinyl and that they don't play tricks like swapping the record to a different cover to falsely inflate the price. Such a common practice is not only unethical, it also can pair mismatched covers and records, degrading the overall collectable value. A true collector can identify these things, but at Living In Stereo, you don't have to worry because this place has INTEGRITY! They have obscurities, rarities, and mass pressed vinyl to choose from, and they know their music across MANY genres. They, like me have no musical taste - they seem to love it all! I knew I was in my kinda place within the first 2 minutes of entering when the playlist one of the owners had curated started playing some great vintage Pink Floyd that is NOT what you'd ever hear/heard on a radio station, etc. And the variety of music on said playlist was tops (David Byrne, Ry Cooder, Beastie Boys, Metal, Jazz, Prog Rock, Afrikans; obscure foreign artists, you name it - it played in no particular order and was all fantastic music!) While I was there, they had customers who had issues with vintage audio pieces they'd brought in for the staff to look at and diagnose. Easily resolved issues seemed to be fixed for the customer without effort or demanding a charge for the service - they just wanted their customer to have an enjoyable piece of equipment. It was clear that more complex issues could also be handled here too if needed. Other customers purchased gear and were treated like they were the only customer in the world. Direct, uninterrupted/undistracted service to ensure the customer knew how much the staff care about them. And there's no rushing customers here. Indeed, quite the opposite... If you want to talk music or gear, you're welcomed to stay as long as they're open. Heck, I was there for like 3 hours or something and it flew by because the experience was so fantastic. If you want a source for vintage gear or great vinyl records from people who are passionate about both and the music that comes with it, and who are salt-of-the-earth honest with a deep caring for customer experience; THIS is the place to go. I plan to continue to shop here first, even from afar, simply because I know I can trust them and that the products they sell are of the highest quality. This is THE place to start any search for great records and vintage audio equipment! (discogs? pfft; yeah, NO.) Honestly, skip Living In Stereo at your system's and your ear's own peril. This is a place that feels like it's your buddy's hangout in the garage. Vintage video game and a guitar amp hanging off to the left, a barista setup behind the counter, huge speakers and small speakers and mid sized speakers strewn everywhere, turntables all over, and vintage receivers stacked on top of each other just waiting to be used. I walked in at first and saw a small walkway between all the stuff in this shop and my eyes didn't know where to start. Such a cool place. They do sell records (and espresso too) here but this is more on the hardware side of things. I went there seeking advice on how to get better sound from my turntable and about an hour later walked out with a new record player and a vintage 1970's fully rebuilt Marantz receiver. Once getting home and hooking it up, a huge smile appeared on my face. I knew that they hadn't steered me wrong! I had some compatibility issues with my speakers and the new (vintage) system I just got and went back the next day. They knew exactly what I needed and walked out with some JBL speakers from the early 80's. At home, again, very pleased with my new setup. I know that if I have questions, issues, want to upgrade, whatever, I know that I can go back here and will get exactly what I need and probably more . I walked in expecting to get advice and two days later have a 100% brand new audio system that is far and beyond what I had before, like not even close. read more

Having another vintage audio outfitter is a welcome addition to South Austin and very much needed! Great selection of vintage audio equipment in a variety of price ranges. Staff was super informative and approachable. I also enjoyed the well curated selection of vinyl and CD's. The Americano was the icing on the cake. Vintage speakers in stock were killer, as were the turntables and amplifiers. I'm going to be hitting this place up a lot in the near future! read more

My kids started getting into 70s and 80s music and really wanted some vinyl (to listen to and display as wall decorations). I found this store on Yelp. We went and got there just before the store was supposed to open. Robert saw us waiting outside and opened the door for us. They had a really good collection and what they didn't have they said they could get. They had multiple options for the same album which was also nice. They had rubber gloves for us so we could search through all the albums. It was really very well done. Enzo was also very friendly and helpful. One of the best parts of the experience was the music playing while we shopped (it happened to be 80s stuff that I was into). I'd mention a little tidbit about the song and Robert and Enzo would also add other bits of history. These guys know their stuff and can convey that knowledge without being over-bearing. One thing that may help their business is to post pictures with all the vinyl. I missed the chance to take pics both times I went there. Here are some of the albums I bought there. The Yelp pics make it seem like it's just a place to buy stereo equipment (which you definitely can get there). I really hope this place survives the pandemic. Austin is a better city with this store in it. read more

So great having a new stereo shop in Austin! The owners are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and they are just super into music and design-their dedication and enthusiasm shows in the thought put into the place. I could stay there for hours talking all things music and stereo equipment, it's hard to leave! All the equipment for sell is super clean and restored so it'll last for years. You can browse records as well and they provide gloves for safe flipping. Plus, they have a full service coffee bar so you can stay wired while browsing music. If you're new to vintage audio, need to upgrade your equipment, or just want to browse music while drinking coffee and chatting with the owners, this is the place to go. It was awesome being back in a hifi/record shop! The same brother team that were the brains behind Austin Sound Gallery now have their own spot, and it is gorgeous. A ton of really lovely high end vintage hifi equipment plus some really hard to locate items. Oh and who could forget a legit espresso bar for some really nice sip and listen shopping. These guys were being very safe as far as masks/gloves/sanitizer, they even have plastic gloves so you can flip through the vinyl safe and germ free. Stop in, you won't regret it. read more
