Kale was our server and the manager last night, and he was absolutely amazing! I've been to Sammie's before, but my best friend and I had such a wonderful experience this time. You could genuinely tell that Kale cares about people and their experience. He was so kind, attentive, and made us feel so welcomed throughout the entire night. He was truly a delight and made our evening even more special! The food was incredible, but the veal Marsala was THE BEST! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service made the whole experience even better. I'm not entirely sure how to describe this experience. The ambiance was nice, with dozens of pictures on the wall and an old-style feel. We were seated after a three-minute break, and I ordered the Joe Lioni. The chicken was very dense, and it pulled apart with barely any force. It was the texture that all chicken strives to be. The flavor was a three-way gradient: Strong lemon; to soft, heavy chicken, to a slow-building spiciness that faded quickly and painlessly. I was finished with the first piece, and about to move on to the second, but my father and sister suggested that I eat some of the spaghetti. The taste and texture can only be described as the feeling on a hike, when you come into a clearing with the sun gently filtering through the trees, and you know and enjoy that there is more to come. Very subtle and light. The pasta and chicken paired more perfectly than anything I have ever eaten before. After I finished, I got the stracciatelli cannoli, that is, the chocolate chip cannoli. I was given the cannoli, as well as a surprise bonus: the Brown Butter gelato. It was amazing. It's the next step up from custard. The cannoli was crispy, brittle, and the ricotta was smooth and rich Scraping my plate on all of these. Like a dream. Prices were somewhat steep, but worth it. 10/10 read more

Yes please! More Sammie's!!! From the entrance , service, food...yes please!!! We came for Friday Jazz lunch and was my first introduction here. I love Italian food and A+ for everything I ate! We started with the sweet stuffed peppers and were the perfect start to our culinary journey. Roasted peppers stuffed with ricotta cheese and crumble of breadcrumb on top for texture...yum yum. It was lunch but I ordered the veal chop (it's a lot for lunch) but I when I see veal on the menu I am ALL in! It was cooked to perfection with a decedent Demi sauce. Like your plate clean sauce! (If you know you know). The vodka pasta was so good I ordered one to go. The veal parm for lunch could feed multiple people and I'm still thinking about the red sauce that covered the perfectly cooked veal. We had the cannoli for dessert with a cappuccino. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were brought back to a booth immediately. The restaurant was packed and the noise level is super high. There are too many tables for such a small room .We had to wait over 15 minutes and had to get a waiter's attention. He was very nice, and professional . When the appetizers were getting ready to arrive, a woman brought out plates and proceeded to put them in front of us , reaching over me without excusing herself to where her face and mine were very close . This place is always busy for a reason, the food and service are really good. As many have noted, the noise level is high. There are some tables in the back that are a bit lower. Who would have thought an Italian red sauce joint would go straight to my top tier Austin recs? Place is just legendary. Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. Back in the Dec. we did a guys trip to Austin and the culinary highlight of the weekend was Sammie's. Stepping through the doors felt like stepping into elegance and onto the set of Goodfellas. From the hostess to the waiters to the manager everyone was super attentive and on top of their game. You can't go wrong with anything from the bar. I have never been a fan of Negronis but the one at Sammie's changed my life! I order them everywhere I go now searching for that Sammie's Negroni high but nothing comes close to it. I went to Sammie's for my birthday dinner and loved it so much I think I'm going to make it a yearly tradition. I loved everything about this meal. Sam is an institution - that I had never heard of. We struck up a conversation at another bar and I struck up a conversation with a lovely lady who could not say enough about this place. Seriously such an adorable, intimate Italian restaurant! The service is absolutely phenomenal. It feels very upscale. I loved the waiters' outfits and everyone was so helpful, friendly, and genuinely made it feel like they wanted me to have the best experience possible! I will say it's pretty small, which means it gets loud quickly. By the end of the meal my throat was honestly hurting from having to talk so loud the whole time. Now to the food. W. O. W. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which were so solid! They come with a pesto basil ranch that I would love to have in my fridge daily. We split the lasagna between two people and still had leftovers. That being said it was also $38 so definitely not cheap! Very good Italian food in a comfortable restaurant with an old school feel. When we walked into Sammie's, I was immediately struck by the nice vintage feel - low lighting, red leather, Tony Bennett playing. The lighting made menu-reading a bit challenging but a little light from our cell phones solved that. This is a really classic Italian menu. Nothing too nouvelle. My wife and I started with the white anchovies with roasted red peppers, which were in olive oil with garlic and other spices. Very nice and went well with the house focaccia. We shared a Caesar salad. It was delicious , made with bread crumbs rather than croutons. It was also a bit spicy, which we liked, maybe from Calabrian chiles or similar. For her entree, my wife had the Linguini Vongole. She loved it. Whole clams in a nice, light sauce, also a tad spicy. This is her go-to dish at Italian restaurants and Sammie's passed with flying colors. I had the eggplant parmigiana, also one of my litmus tests for an Italian restaurant. It was good but not amazing, to my taste. I like very little breading and a strong eggplant taste. Sammie's version is lighter on breadcrumbs than most places but still more than I'd like. To be fair, it was good enough that I ate it all! I think most people who like eggplant parm will like it. We shared a large piece of excellent NY style cheesecake. It had a few berries on top and a little chocolate drizzle but otherwise was plain and creamy, like it should be. Service was great. Friendly, attentive and prompt, never obtrusive. It was a very relaxed, well-paced experience. Our total bill with tip and no alcohol was around $150. Not cheap but worth it for a very nice dinner. Sammie's will be on our return list, especially for special occasions that call for a touch of class! read more

Came here for a colleagues birthday. Such a quaint spot and unique decor. They were packed, and that seems daily! The lighting is very low for a dark ambiance. Heard about sammies through my boss, he said it was the best italian food in austin and i have to say i agree! It is a bit tough to get into, make a reservation about 2 weeks out i'd say. The ambiance was lovely. Very dimly lit, lots of candlelight, the perfect date night. We went on a double date with another couple to celebrate our engagement and they started us off with a complimentary round of champagne which was so thoughtful. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. They have quite a few gluten free options which was great for our friend with a gluten allergy. We had the yellowtail appetizer, the shrimp appetizer which was the tables absolute favorite! For entrees we had the chicken parm which was ginormous, perfect for my fiance who has the appetite of a small pony, we also had the rigatoni which was flavorful and imo, the exact right portion for a hungry female, both my friend and i had it and felt satiated without being overfull. Her partner got the white pasta with mushrooms, i cant remember the name but he said it was also fantastic. For dessert we ordered the chocolate nichole... i cant remember how to spell it but it was really good without being too sweet. I personally didnt love the passionfruit sorbet, but my friend enjoyed it. The drinks were awesome as well! Our reservation was the earliest we could get and it was at 8:45, and so we stayed probably 20 mins after closing but service never slowed and no one ever rushed us which was very appreciated!! Our bill was about $400 for 4 people, so it isnt cheap, but that is with 4 cocktails, 2 apps and 2 desserts. I would budget around $100 a person. More often than not I will try a hyped spot & not understand the hoopla but everything was divine!
