I prefer the mini but they're sold out a lot which shows you how spectacular this place is. My go to is the nutty valentine. The donut is always warm, fresh, and crispy. And the toppings of Nutella, cinnamon, and strawberries adds dimension & the perfect story. There is plenty of patio seating and lots of parking outside. Doughnuts made to order out of an airstream, you say? Looks like they used to offer mini versions but that side of the menu is all mask taped over. When we went our choices were $9-$10 donut base desserts. I say base because the toppings cover up the donut visually. Despite that, there's no covering that scrumptious taste and texture. Wowaweea. Yes, you feel your cells expand and pants tighten and it is for sure run club pre and post, but quite worth it. These divine donuts have that cakey interior I love so much. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. I really didn't want to like these donuts, because who needs a $9 donut, right? But I have to admit, they far exceeded my expectations. Just to be clear, I AM somewhat of a subject matter expert. I have eaten all manner of fried dough creations from coast to coast, including Hawaii, and I have a lot to say on the topic. My favorite is still Cider Belly in Albany, NY, but I digress. The PB&J donut here is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I dragged it out for 3 days. Even semi-stale, and reheated in the microwave, it was still delicious. I put a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream on it which definitely helped. I also ordered a Heavenly Hash (one of my favorite ice cream flavors BTW) and a Naughty and Nice because I am all about the classics. They were both outstanding. No leftovers. This is SUCH a delicious food truck! I spotted it on Yelp as we were in the mood for dessert and not sure what to try. After paying for parking we made our way over to the truck. There wasn't a line (it was a pretty hot day) so we managed to order quickly. We opted to split the Black Betty. It was huge!! I loved the blackberry sauce and fruit mixed in with the cream and sugar. This is one big dessert so I'm glad we shared it - honestly would be worth splitting a whole one amongst a few people unless you have a big sweet tooth! The staff were really quick with the order. There's ample seating by the truck which is probably nice for part of the year, but we were suffering on a hot summer day. Parking was a bit challenging and the lot was full and they charge for parking. Service was quick, casual, just good energy and fast turnaround. I ordered my tried and true Miss Shortcake with their famous cake donut with cream cheese icing and fresh cut strawberries. The donut is so indulgent and was served warm with the most delectable flavor combinations. I truly can't put into words how much we loved Gourdough's. The only thing I'm more grateful for than the donuts themselves is that we tried it on the very first night of our four-day trip to Austin--because it gave us three more days to go back and work our way through as many flavors as our daily calorie limits would allow. This place is a fat boy's dream! The lady friend and I stopped in one morning as we were passing through Austin. I did no recon work before I came so I overordered not knowing what to expect. I ordered a Mother Clucker and a Granny's Pie for me and a Heavenly Hash for the lady friend. Then we waited. These are made to order doughnuts! Woah! The Mother Clucker was huge! There was so much fried chicken on top of the doughnut that I thought I had sweet and sour chicken from a Chinese restaurant. I looked in the bag to make sure there wasn't a container of orange color sauce in there. There was a honey drizzle over it all and it sat on top of the doughnut. Even though it was large, the dish was rather boring. Maybe they needed a dipping sauce for the chicken strips. Granny's Pie was delicious. It was a doughnut with bananas, cream cheese icing, caramel, pecans and crushed graham crackers. The lady friend's Heavenly Hash looked great, but I was too busy trying to hydrate in order to not into go a diabetic coma. I don't know how I drove a car after this. I'm glad there aren't breathalyzers for sugar rushes, I would have gone straight to jail! This is not a breakfast food. This is a dessert shop. I was intrigued when I saw a sign for CBD coffee and decided to give it a try, but unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. I paid an extra $5 to add CBD and completely regretted it. I'm not sure if it was the coffee itself or the CBD addition, but the drink was thick, overly sweet, and honestly unpleasant. I planned to share it with a friend, and between four of us tasting it, we all agreed it was just bad coffee. The person taking my order didn't seem to know what was in the drinks, which made me hesitant, but I went ahead and trusted it anyway. While ordering, I also noticed the work area behind the counter looked extremely messy possibly due to a rush, but there was only one person working at the time. Even the coffee cup itself looked dirty, with visible fingerprints on the lid, which was off-putting. I didn't try the donuts, so this review is strictly based on the coffee. Everything I've tried has been wild and delicious, but my absolute favorite is the cherry donut holes (I can't remember the name, but they're SO good--warm, sweet, and just the right amount of tart). The service is always friendly and relaxed, and the food truck vibe fits right in with the whole Austin feel. It's a great place to bring out-of-town friends or just treat yourself when you're craving something extra indulgent.
