The Ultimate Off Grid Travel Trailer If you're looking for the ultimate off grid travel trailer, don't even look elsewhere... why? Read on! It's always been a dream of mine to drive around the country visiting the National Parks and remote locations with my dog. My father and I used to hike to remote locations where no else was around for miles, so my #1 requirement was a trailer I could take off the beaten path and survive as long as possible without needing to go back into civilization. I knew I didn't want to be in campgrounds, parking lots or KOA's. Sometime in 2018 I started searching the web for "off grid travel trailers" and I remember Living Vehicle popping up in my search results. This looked like the ultimate dream trailer, but I made myself click away when I saw configurations pricing out as much as a real home. I looked at Earth Roamer - they looked cool, but didn't have the tank capacities or maneuverability, and many said they spent more time being repaired than being used. Then I came across the Black Series HQ19, a compact off road travel trailer at a decent price. I took the plunge to see if I really would like this 'off grid' camping experience enough to invest further. After a few trips I was hooked. I was able to last a few days with short showers and a generator... but it soon became apparent I wanted to stay off grid longer than this fun trailer could last... it didn't have the tank or power capacities needed, and even though it was just me and Logan, it felt cramped and uncomfortable to 'live in' for a long period of time I found myself staring at the Living Vehicle website again, and decided to reach out to Matthew and Joanna to see about finally getting my dream. I don't have much patience for ordering and waiting, but as luck would have it, a pre-ordered vehicle was coming available. It's been the best purchase of my life. Everyone who steps inside is in awe. Every little detail has been thought out. The moment it was delivered I took it on a 6 week journey through the Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, into Canada through Banff, and then back. Not once during those 6 weeks did I feel cramped or uncomfortable. It's like living in a small apartment (some friends have commented it's more spacious than their New York apartment!). I had a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and a spa bathroom. Instead of feeling the need to get home, I actually felt the opposite, I didn't want to go home, I wanted to stay driving around with my Living Vehicle even longer. I opted for the "Mobile Office" configuration because I wanted to be able to work off grid and feel like I had my full office with me. I have two monitors, speakers, and Starlink with internet as fast as home. I can work in the morning, hike in the afternoon, and chill with Logan on the bed at night watching movies in the home theater. Since a kid I've been fascinated with campers, trailers, and RV's, always wanting one... I've had the opportunity to consider and look at RV's and motorhomes, trailers - you name it. I'm convinced the Living Vehicle is the perfect balance of size, portability, and versatility. With a motor home you're stuck in one big huge vehicle you can't take a lot of places. I can pull my Living Vehicle almost anywhere, detach, and run an errand if I need to in the truck I'm happy to report that the very few times I've needed assistance with something (there is always going to be a part that breaks or comes loose in pulling a trailer miles around the country), the team at Living Vehicle has answered every call on the first ring and even sent parts overnight with no questions asked. Their service department is second to none with feature requests and repairs. In my year owning the Living Vehicle we've come to feel like we're part of a family. I can even see myself retiring in the future, selling my home, and living full time travelling around the country in my Living Vehicle - really LIVING in a VEHICLE. We purchased a Living Vehicle HD24 PRO in 2023 after extensive discussions and reliance on an estimated delivery timeline provided at the time of contract. While the design concept is compelling, our experience was marked by prolonged delays, incomplete delivery, and communication issues that prospective buyers should be aware of. Despite making all required payments on time, delivery extended well beyond the original estimate. We later learned--only after contacting third-party manufacturers ourselves--that some of the delays were caused by internal payment and coordination issues that were not disclosed to us during the process. The unit was ultimately delivered incomplete, requiring substantial third-party work at our own expense to finish essential systems. Additional delays occurred even after Living Vehicle agreed to assist with resale. We are currently pursuing resolution through the contract's mediation and arbitration process. We are sharing this experience so other consumers can make informed decisions, ask detailed questions up front, and plan carefully for timelines and completion responsibilities. We recommend that prospective buyers document all representations in writing, clarify how subcontractors are paid, and budget for delays beyond initial estimates. read more

My fiance have long been interested in the tiny house movement and we were lucky enough to tour one of the first Living Vehicle models and we both immediately fell in love. I don't consider the Living Vehicle to be an RV or camper. Where RVs are cramped and (at least since 2020) are shoddily built, this is spacious and exudes quality from one end to the other. If anything this is a deluxe tiny home, but even that doesn't do it justice. These are bright, airy, and open and as solid as our own home. Luxury touches are everywhere, and it is fully ready to go off grid. You can even pick up high speed internet from just about anywhere. To me, the biggest selling point is the bathroom. You'll feel like you're in a spa or a high end boutique motel with the wooden walls, skylight, and other amenities. Sheer bliss. We kick ourselves for not snapping one up at their introductory prices way back when, but we're still checking them out and trying to figure out when to grab one and where we'll spend our days once we've obtained one. read more

And it is clear that a lot of thought went into the design and amenities. Our Living Vehicle has become our home. Having retired recently, we want to see the US and as many national parks as we can. We left Ohio in early July to travel the US with an aggressive plan to get to the northeast while attending a wedding in Georgia and a family vacation in Maryland. We will return to Ohio for Thanksgiving and other planned travel. Will continue our journey next year, with no planned end date! The LV has been a great place to return to each day. It's great design and livable features make it the ideal home for travel. We have the MAX version with backup generator. Boondocking is not our preferred form of living, but this setup ensures that we can when we need to or want to. When staying at various parks, the level of hookups vary and we find it more than manageable to live with less electric and no sewer for extended periods. Having the benefit of luxury housekeeping, we do not need to find a laundromat, we don't have to add a vacuum, and we can leave the dishes to clean in the dishwasher. The ample storage and ability to carry substantial weight allow us to carry what we want to live life on the road. The comfort of knowing the quality of the build ensures the cabinets stay shut, the appliances work, the electronics serve and protect, and the heating and AC make it comfortable, allows us to live worry free. Retreating to the patio most evenings for Happy Hour completes our days. Like all new homes, we have had our issues, all of which, through persistence and ongoing communication have been ultimately resolved. The quality is such that the issues are minimal. We have looked at additions, for our convenience and to serve our lifestyle - Cable TV connection for when we have access, TV antenna to get us the broadcast news, additional sewer hose storage - all to serve how we live. During a 40-year anesthesia practice and 20 years of RV life, we've also owned seven other RVs - 5 were bumper pulls, and 2 were Super-Cs. It's easy to say that our 2022 Living Vehicle is our 8th and our absolute favorite. Our favorite feature is the total independence afforded by LV's energy system, which is second to none in the industry. We never have to worry about inclement weather, re-routing for an emergency road closure, etc., as the LV provides every home comfort anywhere, regardless of water and utility hookups. I can attest to the advantages and importance of LV's indoor air quality. As an anesthesia airway specialist and someone with a chronic condition called Reactive Airway Disease, clean air is imperative. We are thankful we also purchased the air purification system, which saved me during the Colorado and Montana fires in 2022. My wife loves the spa bath, washer/dryer, dishwasher, gourmet kitchen, central vacuum system, the Truma continuous hot water system, ample storage inside and out, and the general ease of cleaning and household management of the LV. The Insta-hot water feature at the kitchen sink is also awesome, a convenience that saves energy, water and time. The fold-out deck is a no-brainer! Nothing beats this perfect above-ground perch's safety, privacy, and viewpoint! From the inside, the large sliding door extends our living space and brings the views and fresh air inside. The LV's window placement adds to the overall camping experience. The visual beauty of our surroundings flows into our living space and can be enjoyed regardless of the outside weather. Our experience with the LV creators and their customer service team gave us a renewed appreciation for the creative genius and expertise that brought the Living Vehicle into existence. The ubiquitous real estate, housing and mortgage industry seduced us into believing we need a dream home, but eventually we had grown weary and disillusioned and decided to dramatically alter our lifestyle by escaping what we viewed as the "matrix". After doing our research for the most off-grid capable RV, we arranged a tour with Living Vehicle. When we stepped inside Living Vehicle, we felt at home right away. The floor plan flows. It feels spacious and open. After weighing all options, we decided to get the Pro series. With its off-grid capabilities, huge battery bank, large capacity tanks, we boonbocking for weeks at a time before returning to civilization. The spa bathroom accommodates my height (6'5"), has a spacious shower, on-demand water heater and heated towel rack. Taking a hot shower in the winter in the middle of nowhere is the ultimate luxury. We opted on the composting toilet, and we were glad we did. Not only we saved so much water, dumping was so much easier and more sanitary. The pull down patio is very easy to operate, and it becomes the perfect happy hour hang out or outdoor entertaining or cooking. Living full time on the road means you need storage, Living vehicle does not disappoint. The refrigerator and pantry hold a lot of food for extended boondocking. The washer/dyer was another upgrade we were glad we had. It saved us so much time going to laundry mats and had more time exploring instead. Living Vehicle is comfortable in the heat of summer or frigid winter. The heated basement gives you peace of mind when camping in the winter months. It really is a 4 season trailer. Living Vehicle is a great investment. During the pandemic, Living vehicle became our breathing machine, taking us deep into remote and quiet places with exquisite natural landscapes and the activities of camping kept our mind and body active. I will try to keep this review concise, but there is so much to say. We purchased a new 2019 LV and spent 2 months traveling and living in it summer 2019 with a toddler, 2 cats and a 100lb dog. The purchasing process was so easy and personalized - they even had a cat door installed in the unit for us! The vehicle itself is incredible - so functional, modern and livable. We knew if we were going to attempt this lifestyle it had to be in a vehicle that would feel like home. We especially loved the drop-down deck, adding natural light and more space. We definitely tested the limits of our unit in terms of weather and off-road travel, and it performed great. Any time we had an issue, Wally was always available and quick to help us solve the problem. We had our unit in the shop for a bit and Wally handled the entire process. The concierge service is outstanding. On a personal note, we have so many amazing memories from our time in the LV that I think back on almost daily. In fact, we have already started discussing getting back into an LV once our kids are a bit older. When we decided to sell our unit due to a growing family, Matthew, Joanna, and Wally took care of everything, making the resale process incredibly easy and hands-off for us. Having lived the off-grid RV life for five consecutive summers, I was extremely impressed when I toured the Living Vehicle RVs. They offer everything and more to make your traveling adventures easy and enjoyable. Some of the features that most excite me are the one-touch auto leveling system, the 72kwh of battery storage and 18kw of inverter power, and the optional water generation system (wow!). Believe me; these things matter when you are in the middle of nowhere! And the simple yet luxurious aesthetics made me feel at home. The large windows, walnut and stainless finishes, the fabulous spacious rain shower with a skylight, the bed that turns into a workstation, the closet and storage size, a washer and dryer, and so many functional yet beautiful features made me fall in love. What an amazing concept!! Last weekend we attended a great open house/reveal party for the Living Vehicle. The Living Vehicle truly has everything you would need. It's not just for short term travel, but for long term living. The full bathroom is what sold me. I don't know why trailer makers think people would rather give up full bathroom space!! I'd rather give up space elsewhere to have the luxury of a full bathroom while I'm roaming the world!! Isn't the point of traveling to be immersed in your surroundings and not cooped up inside?! Bring on the full bathrooms!!! But that wasn't the only innovative part of this concept. I LOOOOVED the drop down wall to give a full floor to ceiling view PLUS a patio deck!! Talk about dinner with a view!! I can imagine cooking dinner lakeside with fish fresh from that very same lake! Not to mention the high ceilings! I was really impressed that the Living Vehicle has the full ceiling height so you felt like you were actually standing in a room and not in a tunnel. Not only did the Hofmann's come up with a great concept, but they threw on awesome party. I thought for sure with rain in the forecast they would have cancelled, but not the Hofmanns!! They put up tents and brought out the heat lamps and threw an excellent fiesta!! I thought I would stop by for 20 minutes or so, but ended up staying for about 3 hours. When we sold our Sprinter van, we looked widely for a travel vehicle with more space for longer trips. My family and I have been living full-time in our Living Vehicle since our house burned down in the Woolsey fires - there are 4 of us, plus two dogs - and the Living Vehicle has surpassed all our expectations. The design is impeccable - and considering that my entire family is extremely tall, being able to stand upright and move comfortably throughout the entire vehicle makes a huge difference. An efficient, spacious layout has obviously been very carefully considered, and the attention to detail and function is very impressive. The LV customer service is tremendous and the whole experience of dealing with Living Vehicle has been superb. Whenever we have had issues (and there really haven't been many), response is immediate, and a solution has been provided with little or no delay. Wally Hofmann is a pleasure to spend time with, and his commitment to customer service is extremely impressive. The LV has enabled us to live in comfort, and has provided a comfortable and fun home for my family while our house is rebuilt. I know we will look back extremely fondly on this time - LV has made it possible to enjoy the aftermath of the loss of our home, and has enabled us to live on-site while it is rebuilt. My husband and I visited the RV show out in Pomona today and as we were walking past, I saw this aluminum trailer that caught the corner of my eye. Even from afar I was drawn to it and as I walked up and took a little tour I was BLOWN AWAY. Matt and Joanna were both there and were very friendly, explaining how their company came to be but wow- this is so far from a trailer. It's totally makes you rethink "trailer"- this is comparable to the tiny house race that's been so popular lately but the home is so thoroughly thought through and it's amazing- so sleek and modern, clean and green- solar panels, lithium batteries- self powered and exquisitely beautiful. With housing costs so high in California, this is something my husband and I talked about all the way home and after seeing this it makes it easy to think out of the typical housing box- this is absolutely beautiful. Still in a daze after seeing this and I wish I had more time to go thru all the details of this beautiful smart home. My husband and I had the opportunity to meet Matt and Joanna who graciously invited us to visit and tour their Living Vehicle earlier this week. Having spent the last several months researching tiny homes and saving a few favorites, we were elated to be able to actually visit and see this in person. We had expected it to be something along the lines of an incredibly glorified camper because the videos, pictures and things we'd read about it seemed a little too good to be true. Due to the price, we almost talked ourselves out of going to check it out. I am SOOOO happy we convinced ourselves to make the trip to see the Living Vehicle. This is truly a piece of art. There is so much thought put into every little detail of this beautiful space, it absolutely blew me away. The closet in the bedroom has built-in drawers and the W/D is right next to the closet -- an excellent and practical use of space and placement. The bathroom is functional with adequate storage and has the most inviting shower I've ever come across -- with a teak wall and a skylight, it felt roomy and airy. The kitchen is well put together though the fridge was a bit smaller than I would prefer. The slide out pantry is large enough to store anything from canned goods to cereal boxes and there is even more storage above the sink and in the moveable island. Also of note there is additional storage under the sink (above the dishwasher) and underneath the grill-oven. Storage doesn't stop there either; there's more beneath the seating in the living room and even more on the outside of the house - a pass through storage compartment and a couple of others. The elevator bed above the dining area/living room is fantastic for house-guests and it lowers just enough that you can still sit on the couch/at the table when it is fully lowered. This place is truly accommodating for anyone and everyone. Another great feature is the technical panel. The model we saw was integrated with bluetooth technology for the home audio system. It also integrated cameras for security that could be viewed on the built in television. My very favorite thing about this house is ALL THE WINDOWS! There is so much natural daylight in this place yet it still feels cozy and private. The skylights in the bedroom, shower and kitchen help to really open up the space and make this feel like a home. The huge sliding glass door that opens to the fold out deck also helps to expand the space and provide a lovely area to barbeque, lounge beneath the oversized umbrella while reading a book and sipping on a mojito, etc. Also of mention is the solar panel awning. This place can run on or off grid as it is also equipped with clean, gray and black water tanks. Did I mention the outdoor shower as well? Seriously, Matt and Joanna thought of EVERYTHING. I was so blown away by every detail in this house, it truly is a magnificent creation. Most of all, I was shocked at how sizeable it felt for how small it was. Layout is everything and this couldn't be better done. I would encourage anyone considering moving to a tiny space to visit this the Living Vehicle and get a good handle on just how functional a small space (212 sq ft) can actually be when it is set up with actual living in mind. It appears that many of the reviews of this vehicle are based on people viewing websites rather than an actual visit. These comments are based on my website views. There seems to be two incarnations of the Living Vehicle: one in 2017 and the in 2018. I will comment on the 2018 version. This trailer differs from most in that it is oriented toward long-term use without moving for a while. Not aerodynamic, but roomier. It seems more sustainable than most trailers with its 100 gallon fresh tank, large waste tanks, huge LP tanks, and 600W solar. That is, as long as one does not use the dishwasher or washer and dryer. Also, the air conditioning will likely be unusable without hook-ups. Some omissions: - No conventional oven. How do I make my muffins in the morning? - No double sink... Double sink is needed to wash and rinse dishes efficiently. - No awning. Seems like this would be a cheap solution to reduce solar load. A unique and well thought out contemporary take on mobile living. A better Airstream. Includes a great selection of top shelf finishes and design elements make the Living Vehicle really stand out. For us the unit is a bit too big, we would love to see something in a smaller footprint for just two. Also our current vehicle sleeping arrangement is rooftop which keys us into evening breezes, better views of sun up and having all of our bedding up and out of the way during the day. But that's personal stuff, and LV gets kudos for a great job right out of the gate !! read more

The living vehicle is the best example of innovation and design in a mobile home that I've ever seen! There is so much thought packed into every inch of this trailer. For anyone wanting to live an adventurous and sustainable life surrounded by beautifully designed spaces and high tech resources, you've got to check this thing out. My wife and I traveled down to Bryce Canyon to see the Living Vehicle in person and it was well worth the trip. The design inside and out is sleek, minimal, and very aesthetically pleasing. I initially thought the interior might be too sterile with all that white but it's balanced out perfectly with warm woods and the color choices help to make the interior seem far roomier than the square footage would suggest. It doesn't just look gorgeous though, it's ridiculously functional too. Tiny Home builders often surprise me with their ingenuity and use of interior space but I've yet to run into any builder that goes to this level. The build quality is outstanding and you can tell the home is going to last a long time. The placement of windows is particular appreciated and the skylights really add a luxury feel to the whole thing and make it very hard to look at other tiny homes the same way. I think it's quite accurate to say this feels like the iPhone of tiny homes and it perfectly blends the mobility of an RV with the interior of a luxury home. If you are in the market for a tiny home I strongly encourage you to go see this one before making a decision. read more

I have been closely following the work by Matthew Hofmann and Hofmann Architecture for a number of years with their fabulous Airstream projects. When I heard about their new Living Vehicle last year, I was intrigued to say the least. A person and company I have high regards for coming out with a new concept that addresses the short comings of living full-time in a smaller, movable domicile. Reading about it and seeing photos has been fine but with finding ourselves not too far from Santa Barbara this week, I contacted the company to see if they could accommodate a short notice visit so we could see the Living Vehicle in person. Fortunately, they were fine with us stopping by and we ended up spending about 1 1/2 hours with Matthew. The Living Vehicle is the most thought out RV for full-timing that I believe is on the market. The details that are needed for practical full timing have been completely flushed out. This includes the aluminum construction, VHB tape instead of leaky rivets, no wood in the floor, double pane windows, and outstanding insulation. Whether dealing with cold weather or hot, the attention to the envelop make it a truly four-season unit. Appropriate sized holding tanks within the insulated heated basement, quality fittings, cleanly executed wiring and plumbing, and so much more are all done the right way. Most people that have lived with the typical RV's know that too much stuff just breaks and doesn't hold up to normal wear and tear. The interior doors, cabinets and other items are all robust and designed for constant, normal use. The floor plan, space utilization and window placements are all outstanding. I especially like the large skylight over the bed to enjoy the stars at night. My wife loved the bathroom details with the teak (being changed to another weather resistant wood in future models) in the shower and the vessel sink. Incorporating a washer/dryer and a small dishwasher are also great time savers when living in the Living Vehicle day-to-day. The general feel or vibe of the unit is outstanding. My wife is a little bit more old school then I am with design and décor, therefore I thought she might have a little hesitation with the clean, modern esthetic. However, once she saw it, she loved it. My impression with the company was just as favorable as the Living Vehicle. Matthew has loads of passion for the product and the design. With him living on a boat, he understands the needs of full time living in smaller space. He was very generous with his time and explaining all the details. The other people we spoke with were also very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant to talk to. Good impressions of a well-run company. Highly recommended. read more

We attended the Earth Day Festival in our home town last weekend mainly to check out the new automobiles and solar coming on the scene. We were blown away when we came across the "Living Vehicle". We are already in to the "Tiny House" concept, especially since we now live in a 600 sq ft Adobe home (after raising children in a huge four bedroom home) and we are used to traveling with a 34' RV. When we saw this unit we were so impressed with the workmanship and design. A lot of thought went into the design and architecture of this unit. Love the contemporary design and open feel, yet great use of space. So bright! My husband was all about the aluminum exterior and really cool tilt down patio deck. If we were on the hunt again for something to tow (or even to downsize in to) we would definitely entertain the Living Vehicle! The owners were incredibly personable. A real pleasant surprise to have such a company in our town. read more

I had the opportunity to see a Living Vehicle in person at the open house this past weekend. Man was I impressed! I've watched the tour videos and looked at the photos on the website but seeing it in person blew me away. The build quality is outstanding and the layout is perfectly set up. What stood out the most to me is how spacious the interior felt given the size of the floor plan and the lack of extending sides. I think the numerous windows and skylights made the difference. I've been pondering the thought of living full time in a trailer in a backyard given the absurd rent prices in Santa Barbara but every one I've seen doesn't seem like it would be adequate for full time living. The kitchens don't have a big enough cooking area, there isn't enough storage space, etc. Not to mention how ugly the new ones are. After seeing Living Vehicle in person, I'm convinced. Now comes the hard part... saving up the $$$ read more
