When I saw the Craigslist post for someone who made custom Murphy beds, I was pretty excited and…read moreasked Andrea to come and give me a quote and take measurements. I distinctly recall stating it needed to accommodate a 16" thick mattress. Six or more weeks later, she's able to install the bed. After it was all done, Andrea said that the mattress was too thick for the build. I mentioned that I had requested the bed needed to have a depth to fit the mattress I already had to which she said she hadn't written that down and DID NOT OFFER to fix it. Then when I took a look at the build, I pointed out that I could see the wood grain through the paint, to which Andrea replied that it was still wet. To which I insisted that it wasn't still wet and that I could see the grain. As she was rushing through putting on another coat of her cheap paint, I told her to forget about it, I would fix it. My thought process was just walk away before I become entirely unpleasant. I went ahead and paid her because I will pay a person for shoddy work, but I will NEVER hire you again and neither will a lot of others because I can leave one hell of a bad review. It's time to hang it up. Andrea, your work is terrible, I told you as much, and you didn't offer to fix it to acceptable specs. Photos for proof. Nail holes weren't filled with putty, white paint on my walls, white paint on the hardware, uneven cuts, cracked boards, stepped on the sheet on the mattress with shoes on, etc., etc.

This review is long overdue, in large part because the issues I had with this bathroom remodel are…read moreongoing and I have gone back and forth about pursuing legal action. The short version is, I signed a contract with Carola for a $16k full bathroom remodel, and many items in this contract were either not delivered or not delivered to a satisfactory quality. To her credit, she did initially try to resolve some issues, but I was eventually left high and dry with thousands of dollars in additional repairs needed, and parts of the bathroom still not functioning. I've attached a full list of outstanding items as an image (the same spreadsheet I shared with her), but here are some of the issues and dishonest practices you can expect if you do a project with Carola: 1. At the end of demolition day, Carola called me to inform me that the vanity countertop we'd picked out and agreed on 3 months prior was too expensive, and that we'd either need to pay her more or pick out something cheaper. 2. We were told this remodel would take a week, which was important because we only have one shower in our house. We ended up going nearly a month without a shower, and the remodel took over a month and was still not complete when Carola quit. 3. Her plumbers could not install a tub. I pointed out before tiling work started that it was sloped away from the drain, which none of the contractors noticed. They then tried installing the tub a couple more times over the next couple of days, sometimes by propping it up on foam, but never by adjusting the built-in feet that were meant for this because they were "too hard to reach." Eventually, I agreed with Carola to switch out for a different tub that would be easier to install, but she would not credit me for the price difference ($300 vs. the original $600 tub). This tub also turned out to not be compatible with tile, meaning the walls had to be built out and the shower is smaller as a result. 4. The tiling was done so poorly that it had to be completely ripped out, which Carola agreed with. However, she refused to cover the cost of replacement tile even thought the original tile could not be re-used. 5. The toilet plumbing failed within a few months, causing minor flooding, which she refused to come repair so I did at my own expense. We are still unable to use our bathtub because the overflow drain is not plumbed in correctly, but I have not yet paid for a plumber to come and fix this because it's a lower priority. 6. We had to pay to get the shower re-caulked and the grout repaired due to both failing within a couple months. I had multiple reputable companies come out to assess, and they would not warranty due to the tub and tile being "installed poorly." 7. Carola's team caused damage to other parts of our home, including drywall, banisters, and flooring that was less than a year old. She promised she would fix these, but never did. Ultimately, Carola dropped the final 10% payment, which I should note I did not ask her to do. I made it very explicit that I just wanted her to fix the major issues and I would pay her as per our contract, but she "waived" the last 10%, I'm assuming in an effort to not have to fix the outstanding issues. I have so far spent thousands of dollars beyond that fixing the most critical issues her team caused, which doesn't even begin to cover the less severe issues, like damage to the bathtub, vanity, and other parts of our home. And realistically, none of these issues will ever fully be resolved unless we rip out the shower and start again. If you're considering a bathroom remodel, do yourself a favor and avoid this company. I'm hoping they've improved for everyone else's sake, but unfortunately our experience has been terrible. The only saving grace is that if you squint real hard, the bathroom looks okay.

She cancelled and changed appointments, at the last minute, and the next time called to say she "wasn't ready" - but had gotten many details from the first meeting/measuring wrong. Was confused about which bathroom was which, saying she had to come out a start over. I cancelled, via text, I said I decided not to go with this company. Didn't even get a text asking why or what they could do differently. Maybe they need more staff or something.
