    Cold laser

Dr. McAfee comes to our home to treat our big dog Woody for spinal pain and nerve issues emanating from his spinal region (above his tail) impairing the mobility of his hind quarters. That completely relieves him (and us) from the stress and pain of managing to get him in and out of the car and the stress of coping in a place that is strange to him and involves navigating other animals who are also under stress. Dr. McAfee's knowledge and skill is tops -- Davis trained, and up on the most current and effective veterinary diagnosis strategies, treatments and therapies. Her gentleness and compassion is unmatched by any vet I have taken any of my animals to in more than 50 years. She's just the best and Woody adores her. We do, too. Thank you, Dr. McAfee. We'd give you a million stars, if we could.

Feeding our dog by hand during cold laser therapy to keep him happy

Dr. McAfee is the absolute best!! She worked for months and months with our 10 year old Mexican hairless, Hunky Dory, after his IVDD episode (ruptured disk and partial paralysis). She helped us evaluate him as we went and make important decisions for him regarding procedures and timing. She did physical therapy, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, massage, and cold laser therapy, and also helped us know what do do in between treatments, and what to buy to help our pup. She was really helpful in terms of making sure our dog got the right medications for pain and for crate rest when needed, and was just a huge support and guide through this entire process. She was amazing and so gentle with our dog (who adores her). She also always got us the paperwork we needed in a timely manner to submit to our pet's health insurance for coverage, and advocated for medication to be covered after a denial. Our dog made a FULL recovery and we took him for PLDA after (Dr. McAfee is one of two vets in all of LA that I've seen who actually know what this procedure is!), and we are so so grateful for her care. Dr. McAfee loves her job, is a gift, and is truly one of the best veterinarians I have ever encountered. She's so knowledgeable and so kind. I highly and strongly recommend her. Thank you, Dr. McAfee!!

Recently brought one of our dogs here for a serious issue. We never even saw the doctor, only spoke to them through a phone call even though we were at the office. After speaking to the doctor, the assistant presented the estimate very matter of factly. We declined one of the procedures. 3 hours later when it was time to pay they tried to charge us for the declined service even though it clearly was written on the estimate that it was declined. The absolute worse part is that after coming home, our other dog developed the same symptoms as our dog we had brought in. We called them back and asked to speak to the doctor for counsel. They had no idea who the doctor was. Finally we were told the doctor would call us back. We never received a call and our other dog passed away that night. Obviously we were gutted and when we took our deceased dog in for afterlife care the next day, the receptionist just shoves the brochure at us and gives us prices. Not even a simple sorry or modicum of concern. They dont care about your pets. I write this because I dont want someone else to potentially feel the pain we feel for waiting for these folks to call you back and having something horrible happen.

Finn is extremely shy and particular, and giving him fluids at home just isn't an option. We also made the intentional choice not to associate his one safe space, home, with anything painful. At the clinic, it sometimes takes three nurses to support him, one to gently hold him, one to feed him churro (his favorite distraction), and one to administer fluids. And they do it all with so much patience, compassion, and genuine care. Because of this team, Finn is not only stable, he's doing so well. Truly, I believe they've saved his life. If you're looking for a veterinary team that goes above and beyond, this is it. If you decide to join, feel free to use my referral code: REFER100-178N1. I was recently laid off, so referrals genuinely help me keep up with Finn's ongoing care. If you choose to join, using and sharing my code means more than you know.

I called first thing on Monday morning, and the receptionist kindly squeezed us in. Dr. Kwon examined my cat very gently, diagnosed the issue, gave him some injections, and collected blood and urine for testing. My cat felt a little better that day, though still weak. The next morning, he walked a bit, and by Tuesday night his congestion had stopped. He finally started eating again, even if only a small amount, which was a great improvement. I also received a follow‑up call from another doctor, who explained that his lab results looked very good and showed no concerning issues. He reassured me that my cat should continue to feel better day by day. I felt so relieved and deeply appreciated all the care and help we received.

There was a dog yowling in the back for the entire hour that we were visiting during our first appointment - you can hear everything because there's just a little curtain that separates the back area from the lobby. The exam room has sliding doors but isn't fully enclosed so, again, you can hear everything. The vet, Dr Kwon, was very gruff and brief with our puppy. He quite literally waved us off when we tried asking questions about our treatment plan, and he didn't adequately review our pet's vaccination records in advance. Thankfully the vet tech remediated the situation and thoroughly explained our next steps, but if he hadn't been there the entire visit would have been a complete and frustrating waste. I'm glad we completed our puppy's core vaccines because we've now switched to a much kinder vet at a cleaner, nicer hospital at the same price point.

Because I had to go to work/could not cancel, I opted to do the day after. The estimate at MASH is $6,000-8,000 but here it was around $4500. I dropped my cat off early on Wednesday for his check-up, test, and surgery. Ultimately, they disagreed with the vets at MASH and said my cat had no crystals either in x-ray or in his urinalysis but did have a UTI which contributed to a second blockage (bladder overflow). They kept him for 48-hours to unblock and recover. This cost around $2K. At MASH where he had done the same 2 days earlier, it was $6K When MASH returned my cat, he was rough. He reeked of pee, his face was completely crusted/sticky with dried medicine, his fur was full of shed, and he was lethargic and in pain despite all the medicines. When Affordable returned him, my cat was bright and energetic. They clearly took care of him (he smelled like a baby wipe). It has been about a week since I brought him home, but I knew immediately that he was feeling better the day I picked him up. Now, he has completely recovered. Back to flinging himself around and meowing at 4 am. I am incredibly grateful to this hospital for their responsiveness, flexibility, affordability, and the kindness they showed my cat. I was worried that I would end up losing my cat (I had paid nearly $7K at MASH and he wasn't better) if he blocked again, but Dr. Barrera said that I should "give my cat a chance." He said that it is what he would do if it were his cat. I'm grateful that I did because it saved him from unnecessary surgeries. My cat was seen by Dr. Forsythe and Dr. Barrera and they both were very kind and gentle with him. I do see what some reviews mean about their disorganization. They forgot to call me to update me that he wasn't getting the surgery but would need to be hospitalized. I had to call them, but it turned out that Dr. Forsythe had gotten very sick. He returned my call despite being audibly quite sick and given that my cat needed the hospitalization anyways (and he was fine), I can see how it slipped through the cracks. They seem to accommodate all kinds of emergencies as best as they can, so I think a little disorganization is totally ok. I do think Dr. Forsythe needs a new phone. It sounded like he was calling from a remote cabin or from a phone that fell off a cliff. I had to listen to the voicemail at max volume more than once. I will likely return again/switch my primary vet to this one because it is closer, cheaper, and I had a great experience. And apparently, my shy scaredy cat enjoyed the attention he received here. There are some more "affordable" vets but in terms of quality/expertise, this hospital is well worth the price. When I called around to vets in Los Angeles for cystotomy prices, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital were the only ones that actually do it (many don't update their sites) that are near me (don't have a car) and their estimated price was also the same $4500. They are also roughly the same prices of my long-time vet (Beverly Robertson, wonderful, estimated $4K for procedure) and especially after going to MASH, these prices might as well be pennies. CareCredit is accepted basically everywhere, but what's nice about this hospital is that they accept ScratchPay which is a god send for emergency vet loans. This hospital is in an old building, but is still very nice and clean. Maybe not as sparkling as a brand new facility, but on par with the vets I've gone to over my lifetime.
