So I've been to plenty of lizard thickets in my life but this takes the cake or the pancake... so we arrived at 940 am this morning and we sat ourselves which is fine but it took maybe the waitress 5-10 mins to ask what we want to drink we were not giving straws with our waters until we asked but that's not why im complaining it's more of the fact as waiting a total of nearly a hour for food we received our food at 1045 but the waitress kept saying our food was coming and then have the nerve to say that the cook put it in a Togo box so they have to re cook everything and usually im very understanding but she wouldn't take the blame for it if it was her mistake usually the cook goes by what he's told and then once I get my food she asks do you have three pancakes I only had to I got the griddled thing and my wife got French toast I would think she would have atleast took something off the order for the wait but she didn't even ask if we want to go drinks. Was nearby for work and stopped here with a few others. It has a southern theme, but has a surprisingly large menu with plenty of healthy options if you're so inclined. All of their nutrition info is also on their website which is much appreciated. I had the smoked sausage with collards and green beans. We ordered from the Blythewood location to go. So disappointed. My sister ordered the salmon patty, I ordered the southern fried catfish my other sister and our Dad ordered the country fried steak. My Dad wanted the white gravy. First the order came out incorrectly. It was missing my tossed salad and they put brown gravy on my Dad's steak. See the pictures of the "catfish" and my sister's salmon patty. This is the saddest food I have ever seen. It's actually catfish nuggets I guess. It was soggy! The salmon patty looks something like a hockey puck. The white gravy was super watery. They gave us extra because "it soaked right in" NO it ran right off! It may as well have been milk with pepper! I take that back, it wasn't even as thick as milk! I see there are other locations, not really interested in trying this place again. This fake Southern cooking dump is the worst! Prices jeep going up & service & quality are going down. My friend & I got the daily special Meat Loaf. His was at keast in a " loaf " shape, MINE was a crumbled up mess that tasted like new ground beef with stewed tomatoes in it. My friends had no better taste. I called to complain & was told they had run out of meat loaf and gave me what they could scrape up!! Staff was very rude ,except the young lady that took my order, & likes me! Lol. They offered no refund or credit for food we couldn't eat!! I would never eat there again, but Blythewood is limited & it's sometimes the best choice out of a bunch of crappy fast food joints! Terrible. Waited until my third, yes third visit until I wrote this review to ensure it wasn't just me after hearing how locals just love this place. Went with family visiting the other 2 visits and their reaction was the same as mine. The food is flavorless and if this is family recipes from over the years, the recipes need burned never to be used again. There wasn't a family recipe on anything we ate. It all came straight out of a box or can. Nothing original! The food tasted like something stale bought from the Food Lion right down the street. Worse breakfast service ever for a Saturday morning. Walked in to eat and there wasn't a single clean table to sit down at. No one was clearing tables. Took us quite a while to sit down and even then the waitress's in that place seemed like they didn't want to be there. People walked in and walked back out because of the lack of clean tables. We were getting ready to leave when our drinks finally showed up and our order was taken. Maybe a lot of people called out, but there was certainly a lack of management today. This place is great when you are on the road and need a break! I like it much better than Cracker Barrel and there are at least 3 locations on I-77 and I-20 in South Carolina. OMG I LOVE this place!!! If you're craving home cooked southern food, this is definitely the place to go! I've tried the fried flounder, the candied yams, the squash casserole and mac and cheese (oh! and I can't forget the cornbread!) and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! So that's one meat selection and 3 veggie selections for only $7.49! You can't beat it! Not to mention that it's SO hard to find mac and cheese in a restaurant that tastes like homemade, but this place nails it! (I just re-read my review and I totally sound like a commercial, but I swear I'm not being paid to say these things! LOL) Anyway, the chicken and rice soup is excellent as well. We stopped on our way home from vacation at Epcot's food and wine festival. After a week of eating food from world class chefs, our standards were pretty high. They are afraid to give you Gravy, we needed extra for the Rice, and the Dressing, we ask for some more gravy, LOL, still afraid of giving out Gravy, the Waitress brought us a tiny little Container for us to share, we should have received a Container each. The Rice was hard and clumpy (1 of the reasons for needing more gravy) 2nd reason the Dressing only had a tiny bit hid under dry Turkey. So, everything was dry. The Beets are not sweet. I have to say the Candied Yams were awesome. On Thursday, the Crackle Barrel has some awesome Turkey and Dressing! Never going back, some of the other Lizard Thickets go out of their way to satisfy the Consumer, this 1 must be on a tight Budget. The Rice clumped up like medium size Rocks. Comfort Food can be found all over the Columbia area at Lizard's Thicket. This location, right off of exit 27 on I-77)Blythewood is a little hard to find, but it is one of the nicest Lizard's Thickets in the area. We come here on a regular basis to get our home cooking when it's a long work day for me. My favorite item to order is the vegetable plate. I really like their collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and country skillet apples. Tip, skip the rolls and go for the cornbread. There sweet tea is some of the best around, so if your traveling through, you should try it. As far as meats go, there are two meats that you can order that are not on the menu. I can recommend both of them if you don't need to count calories. The first is the chicken fried steak with white gravy. The second is the boneless chicken breast. It is also fried, but I think it is much better than their regular fried chicken. If you are on I-77 just north of Columbia, this is a welcome alternative to Cracker Barrel. read more

I will never eat here again. First off, the atmosphere was off-putting from the beginning. The waitress was nice but that is about the only positive. Secondly, our food came out literally 2 minutes after we ordered, which means it was probably just sitting in trays in the back. The fried chicken was terrible as well as the blacked eyed peas I ordered (straight from a can, no seasoning at all, not even salt). The other two things that I was certain you couldn't screw up were mashed potatoes and French fries...I was wrong! The rolls came out of a package I can get at the grocery store (but don't because they are horrible). My husband couldn't even chew his friend pork chop, nor could he stomach the macaroni and cheese. Even after seeing that we had barely touched our food they still took our money without offering to let us try anything else (which we wouldn't have) or a discount. I'm from the south and have extremely high standards when it comes to macaroni and cheese--I rarely think restaurants get it right--and I think this is the best I've ever had. (I even ate it cold from our doggy bag in the middle of the night--it was still delicious!) The collard greens, black-eyed peas, country ham and biscuits were also amazing. Very disappointed! I called in this evening (12-16-2016 at 5:25 pm) and spoke with cashier 3 (according to my receipt). I told her I wanted to place a to go order and would like two of their salads with everything on them, the ones that included fried chicken. I was aware there were two types of salads but wasn't sure how they were named on the menu. Again, I was very specific in saying salads "with everything". She made certain to ask if I wanted Captain Wafers. I asked for Captain Wafers with one of the salads and cornbread with the other. She clarified and charged me for our extra dressing choices. We paid for and picked up our to go order and drove 20 miles home. We sat to eat and discovered the small salads that did not include egg, cheese or ham. It was NOT salads with "everything". One salad had baked chicken and one salad had fried chicken, not sure why. There were no Captain Wafers or cornbread. I am normally very understanding and patient with the wait staff while dining in because there's opportunity to correct mistakes. But, get your to go orders right! Frustrating! read more
