First, I need to provide a little background. We are fairly new to Peruvian food. We don't know everything there is about Peruvian, but we have found we like certain dishes. We have tried several Peruvian restaurants in the North area and found Jimmy's Peruvian/Mexican on Auburn Blvd was close, convenient and satisfies our simple needs at a reasonable price. We were gone for several months after Christmas and were surprised/disappointed to find Jimmy's was closed. There was a sign saying they moved to 5825 Manzanita Ave in Carmichael (Great, even closer to where we live). So off we went. The restaurant is in a small strip mall near what used to be a Circle K. The confusing part was the signage (since changed) said Rubio's Mexican but the address matched. After going in and asking, we learned the names have changed but we were in the right place, sorta. Jimmy G., the owner of Jimmy's, merged/took over the Rubio's business, He added his Peruvian food to the Mexican already there, plus he revived the Sushi kitchen in the building to offer Sushi too. We have not tried the Mexican or Sushi yet. Llama & Grill has two areas, one where you enter that is setup for takeout, a check stand, ordering station and behind that is the kitchen. The dining area is along side with both booths and tables. Concrete floors and hard ceilings can make the room noisy with a lot of customers and the omnipresent sound system. The service staff is quite young and inexperienced. I suspect they are relatives that have been pressed into service as they try to build the business. We ordered soft drinks (Pepsi products) to drink and our "standard" dishes, Ceviche Mixto and Tallerin Saltado con Pollo to split between us. The Cevhice was as good as always and Tallerin is tasty, plentiful and very satisfying. On a subsequent visit we substituted a Causa Rellena for our Ceviche and, of course, we still had the Tallerin. This was our first Causa here (or Jimmy's) and found it to be extraordinary. It was listed as an appetizer, but was larger than normal and the wife confiscated it for herself. We do plan to return. Hopefully they continue to improve the service and we will try for pictures. read more

Recently tried this restaurant (to-go) for dinner and it was so good! I ordered the lomo saltado and the marayuca. The meat was cooked well, the gravy/sauce was savory and went perfect with the rice, the fries got a little soggy but were tasty. The drink was refreshing and delicious. What a dinner! We love their food and it never disappoints! Their Ají de gallina was the best I've ever tried, so creamy and flavorful! The food was flavourful and the service was a 10. Some of my family is Peruvian and say that this place isn't authentic enough. I personally find their food just as good if not better than the very expensive Peruvian restaurants in Roseville. We ordered papa la juancina, frijoles, lomo saltado, et chicha morado. This is our go to Mexican food restaurant. This is a family owned business, and you will find the food prepared for you fresh each day. Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, we like that it ifeels like your getting a home made meal You might drive right past it if you are not looking for it. Definitely worth giving them a call and stopping by to pick up your favorite. We love that you can order over the phone and pick up right from the restaurant, my favorite is the tamale dinner, there is an awesome sauce they put over the tamales making them extra delicious . Read the recent reviews on the poor service and the bad food ratings. However, we have always received great service and the food has been superb. So we had to go and determine if the recent reviews were accurate. All I can say is this - perhaps the reviewers had a bad day. Our service has and continues to be "spot on". We have not been here for awhile (6-8 months) but our server still remembered us and our favorite beverage and even what we generally order. The food still taste authentic. My only "dig" is that the portions have been larger in the past. The beef and pork tasted the same. the chile rellano and tamale looked like it came from a pre-package variety- blah. The kicker: you can always tell how sanitary a kitchen is by how clean the proprietor maintains the bathrooms. Let's just say, it needed some deep cleaning with gallons of clorox to sanitize this area...gross. Will we come back...not unless the yelp reviews improve. I have been going here since I was 19 years old, that's... 10, 20, 30 plus years ago. Still tastes the same! Perfect salsa and chips. Yummy, home style cooked comfort food and the best customer service. So many places come and go but not Urbano's Stopped by today for lunch after visiting the cemetery to say "hello" to my dad. He and I used to go to Urbano's, or as he called it "The Mexicans" all the time. Staff here treats you like family and it's always a winner. 4-27-2018. A place we found while driving, on a hunt for FOOD. We decided to stop in give them a try. At first we walked out, with frustrations, on this not being a restaurant. Van advised me this WAS a restaurant. Hey, I was wrong (for once) lol Im glad we walked back in. The counter to order food was towards the back. I guess I just got confused with all the Mexican food, spices, deserts and Mexican bread you can buy off the shelves. My first impression, was a mini market. Sitting there sipping on an ice cold corona while waiting for this authentic Mexican food to be delivered to our table. Upon arrival, I anxiously snapped a few photos for my review and dug right into them soft tacos. Boy these were delicious. I had to order more... After devouring my sippi sip and tacos, I walked around the "mini market" and browsed at all the things you can purchase. If Im ever in need to truly Mexican product, I know where to go. However, we did load up on some fresh Mexican bread. Always room in the belly for sweet bread. Okay, try #7 on my quest for best mexican. It was recommended by a co-worker. It is a little off the beaten path next to a Circle K in a very old somewhat run-down building hole in the wall. We were greeted and seated right away. Traditional menu items but prices are a little less than average. Two item combo plate was $10.99 where most sit-down places are $13-15. The chips were crispy and salsa was fresh although most would think it bland. Food came out within 10 mins. The pros was the deep fried Taco and homemade flour tortillas. Both were fantastic. Pork Tamale corn meal was a little too firm but the meat was hearty. Rice and beans were average. Sadly on this Saturday night, only two other tables were taken so I imagine they make just enough $ to survive. They need to advertise somehow but this is your traditional family run business who may not even have an idea they are on Yelp. Service was friendly and appreciative of our business.
