I was pretty impressed with this place. The chips and salsa had a bit thicker chips and the salsa was more tomato based with a decent kick that wasn't over top. Found this place with the Entertainment book good for $9 off a dinner. Most dinners run around $11.49. Some super combinations that include several items seems like a great value for $13.99. Chile verde plate served with a good spanish rice and some beans and a side salad was a good portion. The chile verde wasn't traditional in the sense that it wasn't in a tomatillo/verde salsa but it was still very moist and had a good flavor. Carnitas plate served with spanish rice and beans with a side salad and they normally serve along with pico de gallo but they were out so they substituted fresh guacamole, score. I prefer carnitas in large chunks like they serve it here instead of shredded since the shredded tends to dry out quicker and you can also shred up the chunks if that's how you like to eat them while maintaining a moist texture. The star of the meal was the fresh homemade flour tortillas. They were slightly thicker than the average tortilla but as other reviewers have stated, they were bursting with a fresh flavor. Asked for a couple extra just to enjoy more of the deliciousness of the tortillas. A note to a previous reviewer that didn't like anything for whatever reason. The water doesn't taste like bleach. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job taking care of us. 2 meals with chips and salsa and the $9 off coupon, the meal with tax came out to $16.14 + tip. Great deal, good meal. This restaurant is not nearly as good as it used to be. The place is run down and the outside of the restaurant is dirty. There are a lot of cigarette butts and dirt in the parking lot. The interior is also run down. Meal was just okay and the service was average. The refried beans were dry on both my plate and my wife's plate. I guess when you look at the appearance of the outside of the building and you know that if somebody spent an hour out there hosing down the parking lot and cleaning the windows on the front of the restaurant you might get a better feel for how clean it is on the inside. House of the little strip mall that contains this restaurant is closed down where a video store used to be. Honestly I think this building is on its way out and should be part of the Redevelopment in Citrus Heights. read more

Tortillas were not as fresh and warm as dining. Ask for more in advance. They were very quick and pleasant during pick up, grateful for our tip. Took a while to even be acknowledged when I went in. The food I got was 50% confusing (why are there quesadilla bits on my nachos?) And 50% wrong (ordered a wet burrito and it wasn't even moderately moist.) Salsa is strange and came in a drink cup. Urbanos has the best Chile Rellenos! They are cheesy, light and fluffy with savory sauce and a chunk of pork on top. I almost always order the the beef taco and relleno combination plate. The taco is crispy with large tender chunks of beef, lettuce, cheese and tomato. Throw in some of Urbano's home made salsa and the taste and texture are amazing. The combo comes with chips, salsa, rice, beans and hand made tortillas. Take the rice, beans and salsa, throw it into one of the tortillas, and you basically have a third entree. I never leave Urbano's hungry. My wife and I have been eating here for 20 years. read more

I came in yesterday to pick up some late lunch and got the number 1 special combination plate that comes with a shredded beef taco and enchilada, chile relleno, chile verde, chile colorado, rice, beans, tortilla and lettuce for $12.50 Everything was pretty good except for the rice I did'nt care for and I thought the salsa was just ok and the chile relleno had way to much breading, but I find it's kind of hard to find good rice and rellenos at most restaurants i've been to. If you want decent mexican food with large portions at good prices then I would give this place a try. Food is good...but the lady waitress that is always there is very rude! Just figure at times that she had a bad day, but have gone there multiple times and she still rude. So, the one star is for the waitress! They have always provided a lunch punch card that they would sign with each meal and when filled you get a free meal. My card was filled so I had a free meal coming to me. We had a party of 4 and two meals were on one ticket which one of the meals should of been free due to my meal card was filled with their signature so I was redeeming my free meal. I went to pay for both meals and provide my lunch card that should remove my meal as it should of been free with the filled card. I provide the waitress with cash for the other meal on my ticket and my fill card to redeem for the free meal. The same rude waitress I spoke about earlier told me that they aren't taking the free meal card due to the pandemic. I said you can't due that as I have come here each time and had my card signed for each meal to fill the card and NOW you don't want to honor the free meal! I told her I am NOT paying for my meal and left her the cash for the other meal that was on my ticket. She keep saying she is not taking the card for the free meal and insisted they arent't them due to the pandemic. I told her the pandemic has nothing to due with her don't honoring the filled card. I told her to call the police as I am not paying for the my meal I should be receiving as free!. The other two meals were payed for by the other two people in my party. I left the money for the one meal and the filled signed free meal card and we walked out of the restaurant. We were getting in the car and the rude waitress said don't come back and put the money for the other meal on the ground outside the restaurant. So, now she lost the money for the meal we should of paid for as she gave it back to me on the ground. I believe the waitress is Urbana's wife. She always argues payment of one way or another. Another time she didn't want to take a gift certificate that they sell along with a coupon from the Z Best coupon book. Said can't take the gift certificate with a coupon. I told her the gift certificate is treated like cash. After being persistent she excepted the gift certificate and the coupon. I have other friends that have also had problems with her when they went there and said she is usually rude in some way or another so they stopped going there too! The food is good, but the hassle with this waitress is a pain and makes the environment not enjoyable. So, be warned if you have a meal card that you want to redeem for your free meal she will hassle you with some stupid excuse that they aren't taking them anymore...you have a right to still redeem it! Just show it to her when paying and insist that you aren't paying for the meal that should be free. She can NOT keep doing this when they sign the meal card in the first place and then doesn't want to honor it when it's full for to receive the free meal! If not taking the free meal cards, I guess she shouldn't of been signing the card all the other times we came in. They lost us as customers as she continues to be rude hopefully more people will complain and more customers will not go there and/or she should lose her job as she is driving customers away. Urbano, please get a different waitress that is kind and respectful to your customers. read more

That being said, our food took a long time to arrive (at least 30 minutes had lapsed and no food or refills on our water). The chips and salsa are decent. Service has been very spotty. As we ate we overheard other patrons express concern about the long wait times for their food. The staff didn't address the delays with us or the other patrons, either, which would've been nice. When the food DID arrive, though, it was quite yummy. Their homemade tortillas are TO DIE FOR. I had the burritos and hubby had chicken fajitas, both of which were yummy. Generous portions! My family has been coming here for well over ten years. The food has never, ever disappointed me. I'm now a vegetarian so unfortunately a lot of the menu is out of my hands, but I love getting the cheese quesadilla meal. The rice and beans are top notch, the tortillas are obviously home made and delicious. The free chips and salsa are to DIE for, although I will admit, once or twice I have gotten a stale batch.
