We end up talking to a lot of people; many of them offer us their cars and their spouses as a trade. But no way I'm giving this van up. My husband and I originally bought Cesar's personal Westfalia and we finally had to sell it. But the best was yet to come. Just before Covid came along we ordered a complete restoraton/Subaru conversion and while it became increasingly difficult to get parts for it, we waited it out. For a long time, but it has been so worth it. We love how it drives, no longer are we doggin' up those hills. Even though there have been some glitches, Cesar and his great crew, especially Jose and Daniel, stuck with us and happiness has prevailed. These guys really know what they're doing. The van is so easy to drive. I'm really short, and normally hate to drive, but my van makes it fun. It handles like a dream, and unlike the original vans, the Subaru engine and all the specialty parts--suspension, brakes, etc. mean that living here in Southern Baja we have just the right vehicle. Everything about it makes me happy. No ginormous Sprinter van for me, this beauty has everything to make our camping trips special. I wouldn't hesitate to talk to Cesar and the guys at California Westy's. You will get what you want and you won't be jealous of me anymore. Ha ha!

If you are thinking to have your car painted here, Read this review first…read more The crux of my issue with them: Dishonesty and complete lack of accountability. I brought my Honda Fit here for a full repaint. I was really excited because of all the other reviews. Luis (the owner) and I had spoken for a few weeks via chat and phone calls over Whatsapp. He genuinely seemed like a good guy who does quality work. We agreed on a price and i drove from LA to Tijuana to drop the car off. No issues on drop off Returning 2 weeks later for pickup. I noticed a few things - Pillar trim around the door was loosely connected and clearcoat on the bumper was dried into a clump. They sanded the clumped up clearcoat and buffed it on the spot, kind of shocking to see but seemed to be ok. The trim they just kind of readjusted it and it fit more snug into place -- I didnt think anything of it until it flew off on the drive home to LA! Thats when i really inspected what was happening with the trim around the whole car. Colima had actually broken most of the pieces of trim on the door and glued them back on, NO they didnt tell me. In fact, Luis only came out with this once we spoke on the phone and i told him all the cars door trim was loose and covered with glue. He blamed his workers for breaking the plastic trim and his solution was to use glue to try and permanently glue these pieces to the steel frame. To be clear, Luis had ZERO intention of telling me anything. It was only after I called him that he told me anything. He then offered to buy me new pieces of trim and mail them to me. I thought OK, this is a workable solution. The only issue is - He Never Sent Them. Over the course of 4 months, I texted and called him 5 times and he told me over and over - Sorry its been a busy week, Ill send later this week. Guess what? Never came, no call no text, nothing. Every time I'd follow up, he'd tell me " This Week I Promise" These are pieces that cost $300 in the US (and thats from EBay) probably much higher from the dealer. On my final attempt with Luis, I offered to pay the shipping or send him a label (That would still be worth it to me) but not even that worked. He still blew me off So does he do quality work (apart from breaking things on your car and then hiding it) ? The answer is only time will tell. the paint looks like a new paint job now, but my concern is they are not honest people so who knows what kind of paint they used on my car and it very well may start peeling off in a year.. We agreed on factory quality paint but seeing how he handled this whole situation with the trim, I would NEVER trust them with another car. I would have been a lifelong customer and he screwed me over a few pieces of plastic trim. Its just unfathomable how anyone would run a business like this. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. Bring your car here at your own peril. The price seems great, but its really not if they break your car in the process

I placed an order on their website for a pre-purchase inspection and they were able to come out to meet the seller of the vehicle the next day. After the inspection, the inspector gave me a call with his findings and overall impression of the vehicle . The day after the inspection, a written report and a numerous inspection photos were available on the order page of their website. The written report specifically covered the following areas: Road Test, Engine & Mechanical, Suspension & Undercarriage, Tires & Brakes, Exterior & Body Condition. The level of detail in the report and the number of photos provided was satisfactory. Overall, it was a good overall experience and I'm happy with the service provided and with the vehicle I purchased. Why did I not give a full five stars? First, I believe a whining transmission noise they noted in their report was misdiagnosed. It seems to have been caused by the car's AC compressor that progressively whined louder before eventually failing during the fifth drive after purchase. Second, the report indicated that the transmission was leak free but I've found the slightest pooling of transmission fluid in my garage since the first day I purchased the car. Lastly, minor details seemed to be missed like missing roof weather strips/mouldings, a detached fog lamp, and sanding/repair work done on the rear bumper and rear fenders. If they had the means to diagnose the whining noise further and offered that as an add-on package, I probably would have availed and subsequently provided a higher rating.

His version of an under the car inspection was sticking his cell phone under the edges of the car and taking a photo. He certainly didn't crawl under and take a look. He made more of an effort to connect with the seller, than me, the buyer and person who hired him. He completed the inspection in 20 minutes and it certainly wasn't worth $200. It was anything but thorough. He said he was mostly inspecting cosmetics and basic function, which I said I could do. I asked him to share with me what he was inspecting as he went along, and he declined to do that. Honestly, he seemed to be in a hurry. Lastly, although I was told I would be getting all the photos the inspector took, absolutely none none of them are in the report. I do not recommend him and would never use him again!
