    Llywelyn's Reuben

On the rare occasions when I'm in St. Charles, I find myself wondering why I'm not here more often. I do some of my best work in St. Charles. A mere matter of steps from Llywelyn's is where I ran my first marathon. I returned yesterday for a group run along the nearby Katy Trail and dinner with a handful of fellow weekend warrior types. We eat at the Webster location on the reg, and we figured we might switch it up. Both locations are surprisingly large and elaborate. I'm only ever at either of them during off hours, but you can imagine them being an absolute zoo on the weekends or at least on St. Patrick's Day. Perhaps counterintuitively, the St. Charles location is the cooler-looking building of the two, the fact that it's in St. Charles notwithstanding. When I was at the Webster location a few weeks ago, I had the Diner burger. I wasn't about to eat a burger served on an English muffin, because pull your head out of your ass, but then a week or two later I ordered at Schlafly Tap Room without actually reading the menu and ended up doing just that. Of the two other burgers available, the Diner was the more normal-looking. Weeks later, I can't even remember what it was like. Suffice it to say that you don't go here to have a meal you can describe in any detail after the fact. But it's not half bad either. The girl sitting across from me had Fish and Chips that looked really good, but the planks of the fish had fused together into one mega plank roughly the size of your head, like the tweaker working the fryer didn't bother to jiggle the basket. I had the Reuben. It was properly constructed, as far as I could tell. Though I noticed that the pastrami was in chunks instead of thin slices. I wonder if that's because I was given the dregs of a bag, er, wedge, of pastrami or if it's always like that. At any rate, it was moist, tender and seemingly fresh. I enjoyed it. No Diddy. It's not the biggest sandwich in the world, but it's an acceptable serving of meat, and the various other ingredients are applied in correct proportion to one another. The fries were obviously just from a bag, possibly Ore-Ida, but the fact that they were steak fries brought back fond memories of my childhood, when that particular preparation seemed almost impossibly classy, like my mom must have gotten a raise down at the salt mines. Like I said, you don't really go here for the food. Both locations smell vaguely of stale beer, like someone may have barfed a few times too many. Perhaps they could have done a better job trying to air the place out, but they at least deserve credit for putting more effort into the food than they absolutely had to.

I visited on a Saturday morning for lunch and the first thing I noticed was how dirty the floor was. It looked like whomever closed the night before didn't finish the job. I was with a small group and we had to find a server to help our table. We finally got someone who took our order. I ordered the fish and chips which were fairly average. There were issues when it came time to separate the check and pay. Please know that Main Street has a tourism tax as. This used to be a really great place. I'm not really sure what's happened lately, but I hope it gets back to its glory days.

One of my favorite places to get a bite to eat in St. Chuck. Love the vibe of the old bank building! Someday, I will get to eat in the vault. It's a dream! I love the pub burger with the soft cheddar. It's so good! Pair the burger with the homemade chips.

This was my first time trying this establishment m. Just went to Main Street to try different apps and drinks! The ambiance gives sports bar/cheers vibes. When you enter, it is a seat yourself establishment. They weren't too crowded so we didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. They have a lot of different seating options even a small private room. It was extremely cold in there Almost unbearable for me and my friend. We opted to try the margaritas which were not great. I'm not sure what happened but it tastes like heavy simple syrup but no lime taste. The fries were cooked to PERFECT CRISP however there was sooo much salt on them there was a layer at the bottom so we didn't finish them. The chicken wings and sauce were good and the waitress was great. I would give them another try.

Crystal was a great waitress! The food and drinks were wonderful! The patio was beautiful! We will be back!

It's perfectly clean, well lit, modern and friendly inside. We sat at a high top and were quickly greeted. All of us were hungry! My wonderful wife and I had gotten up at 4am and traveled all day. So, we ordered 3 appetizers including deviled eggs, onion rings and carnitas nachos. My wife loves deviled eggs and these were well presented and tasty! We all got various burgers. They were perfectly cooked to order with my wife's medium rare being a proper medium rare! My breakfast burger came with fixings and tots and bacon and an egg! I eventually finished the whole thing much later in the evening! We conversed, caught up, laughed, took our time and just had a great time! The manager checked on us, suggesting excellent beers for my nephew and my wife. He was really great to work with since they have a huge selection on tap! Bottom line, life is good with excellent service, food and company!

Let's start with what completely blew me away: the dessert. I'm not even a dessert person, but the toffee cake with ice cream was hands down the best restaurant dessert I've ever had. Absolutely unbelievable. I could've eaten three more. I already can't wait to come back, and honestly, I'd come back just for that dessert. Our sever asked us if we wanted to lick the plate LOL. By the way she was great. Now, the wings. The 5-wing basket with waffle fries is one of the best values I've seen in a long time. The Buffalo wings were fantastic, perfectly cooked with great flavor. The wrap was also excellent--it comes pressed like a panini, which takes it to another level. And those waffle fries... get the Memphis seasoning. The rub is ridiculously good. You can even get that same seasoning on the wings, and it's a game changer. Between the food, portions, prices, and atmosphere, this place absolutely exceeded every expectation I had. I came in expecting a good sports bar and left wondering how this isn't one of the most talked-about spots around. I'll definitely be back.
