Went to Añejo on week day for dinner. My husband had read reviews that the food was good. We were a little confused because the restaurant has a drive through and it was very dark and we were not sure if it was open. We drove in front of the main entrance and noticed it was open. The restaurant inside is nice and very clean. We started our meal with croquettes which were okay. When we were ready to order our main dish we found out that the sides and cannot be changed, I did not like that at all. I had to make another selection from the menu since I was not a fan of the sides. I ordered the ropa vieja, again not my first choice. My husband ordered the fried pork chucks. The portions were significant and tasty. I was very disappointed to see that the checks automatically add an 18% tip, when the waiter came to the table he stood in front of my husband and my husband was going to add additional tip and I told him the check already included the top, the waiter did not mention anything hoping for an additional 18-20%. Giving it three stars, food was good but pricey, you cannot change sides on your favorite plates and they include 18% tip to the ticket and expect patrons to add an additional amount. read more

The restaurant looks nice and the service was friendly. A bit slow and not very attentive but friendly. They charge an 18% service charge and then ask you for a tip because the service charge is NOT a tip. As stated by my waitress it's a fee for the restaurant. This is not a touristy place, it's literally in the suburbs (Westchester). Anyway, she was either trying to gouge us or they're exploiting their employees. Either way I'm not going to return because either one of the reasons is disturbing. Btw, if she would have explained that I could give extra tip I would have understood. Well, I heard many great things about it and decide it to try, my 2 stars go just for supergreat customer service but food is a no no, my mother order ajiaco and it was just boiled water with sazon(yes, the ones that come in a pouch with achiote) , potatoes and a piece of corn, just a tiny piece of meat and done. I ordered a tamal en cazuela and it was just a very watery soup of cornmeal with 3 tiny pieces of porkfat and 1 tiny pork meat. Went for the fist time to this little gem of a restaurant and found it to be quite good. Before anything you should know that on Saturday nights they do have a live show you have to pay extra for but was well worth it. The night I went we where entertained by duo.dnd. Very talented couple with great voices and variety of music. The food was outstanding and the drinks were quite good. The only reason I gave it four stars was because the service was although servers were quite nice they were terribly slow. I had to get up to put in dessert order and then up again to get our check. Excellent! The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the food and service were outstanding! They have a lunch special Monday-Friday until 5 pm for $12 which includes soup or salad, one of 5 entrees and ice cream or flan for dessert! I went to this restaurant because my mother had seen this advertised. We were greeted nicely and given a booth to sit down in. I was very surprised to hear music blaring while waiting for our waiter. That was my first indication that I would not have a relaxing dining experience, nonetheless I wanted to give this place a chance. My mom stepped away to use the restroom and I was approached by someone who explained the drink specials. My mother came back and we waited and waited for a waiter. I am so upset! We have eaten there and order through Uber Eats a few times. Today, I had an expected dinner and ordered some catering food for 10 people. I ordered some catering... was told the last time for pick up was 6:00pm, I placed my order for 6:00pm, I got caught in major traffic, so at 5:45pm, I started calling that I was running a few minutes late.... No answer! I was like, I am out of luck, they close at 6! I get there at around 6:15, no one around I the drive thru, only a door with Uber Eats/ Pick up written sign. I open the door, a lady with red hair sitting down on her phone and another walking around... No hospitality what so ever, I told her I was there to pick up my order and gave her my name. She placed my order on the counter, went to the back to get what was missing, a waiter I am assuming because of his uniform, suggested I bring my car closer, so I did, I grabbed the order (3 closed aluminum trays and a small plastic bag.... One of the trays had some food hanging out and all the seasoning and sauce dripped all over my clothes. I was so upset, I was already dressed for my event! Regardless the lady with the red hair (illegally parked in front of me) was leaving at the same time, I explained to her what had happened, she responded that I should have carried on tray at a time to which I responded, I think the food needed to be packed better or in a box... she replied we do not have boxes here to which I replied along with the NO Service! I'm always driving down 8th St and I've always seen this restaurant as I pass by it. Curiosity took a hold of me leading my scent receptors to go check it out. Upon entering the restaurant I was surprised at the vibe giving you a luxurious sense and an idea of the price of the food. It looks fancy and romantic. I was told the restaurant has live shows on Saturdays which I have to check out. The appetizer were exquisite and if you get the chance try the loaded ropa vieja Tostones with extra cotija cheese gives it gives an added depth to the dish. The croquettes weren't the usual croquettes you try but a lovely ball with a guava sauce absolutely delicious! The Vaca frita was good nothing too impressive but definitely delicious. The chicharrones de pollo are delicious and crispy. If you're a lover of pollo frito My friend you gotta try it out. We ended this fine dinner with a descent crema catalana. This used to be Chef Ramon restaurant though I never went there before. It looks alright on the outside and we went for lunch. They have an acceptable lunch menu and I asked for the Añejo burger which was on the lunch menu for $12 and my mum asked for bacalao croquetas and a juice each. The croquetas were 3 tasteless tiny balls and though my burger's flavor was ok, it came with one extra-thick raw red onion ring which overpowered everything else and a piece of lettuce leaf inside, plus the fries. The waiter brought the food and no utensils which I had to ask someone else for. When the bill came, I had been charged for a Maduro burger for $17 and even though I mentioned it to the waiter he just said that they rang it like that through the cashier and all burgers were the same price, except for the lunch one. He asked if I was sure I hadn't tasted the maduro in it. Yeah, exactly!! He just looked at me with a bit of of a sorry face.
