This is a clean, quiet, and beautiful campground. The showers and bathrooms are also very clean. The campground is walking distance to the day use area where you can swim and fish. Also it was not crowded at all over the whole Memorial Day weekend. We loved it and we had a blast!!!

    Making the best of it

Very disappointed with Loafer Creek. We were put in a terrible campsite (totally uneven). Mosquitoes rampid. Lake Oroville is depressingly low. No camp fires allowed (for good reason tho). Red flag warning activated. Camping without a campfire is really a bummer. Find another place wouldn't recommend.

Look at this ferocious hound. LOAFER CREEKS MOST WANTED.

DO NOT CAMP HERE. We are a very friendly, quiet group of hard working people with kids. No drugs, no rowdy parties. We camp in a group every year for a week all over California as a family and have for over 30 years. We have never felt more disrespected and unwelcome in a campsite than we did in this one. We were being so closely watched from the second we got there. From day one, the camp host was VERY unfriendly. She never once waved or tried to get acquainted with us. Never welcomed us. They had state park rangers and Oroville police (do the police we pay for really have nothing better to do??) driving through our camp up to 10 times a day. I was walking with a 2 year old and very rudely asked which camp I was staying at as if I was breaking some kind of law by walking around the campground. We were given no warnings and written four citations in one day. We were given citations for riding a half a mile in the boat on the trailer (fine..we broke the rule we got tickets we apologized). We have three of the sweetest dogs in the world that we love and treat VERY well. We left our very sleepy, friendly labs and one golden retriever in the back of our truck in the shade with water and ran into town. They allege that our five month old 20 pound lab got out (never has he ever attempted to jump from a 5 feet up closed truck bed..positive someone took him out) and was a "threat" to the campsite. We were SO rudely approached about this issue and were threatened to be kicked out for all of the complaints we have had against us (nobody told us we had any complaints so news to us..we had already dealt with the boat incident). She also made a comment about how she "knew more than" we thoughtShe wrote us ANOTHER ticket for the dogs being left and compared it to leaving your children unattended and essentially called us horrible pet owners. She said we had issues with the boat, the dogs were left unattended, and we had several noise complaints and if she had any more reports we would be asked to leave. Nobody once warned us about noise. We dealt with the boats. We left several days early and were bullied and harassed out of this campground for very minor issues that could've been solved with a simple warning. We were made out to feel like criminals. It was absolutely ridiculous and we will never EVER return to this hell of a campground.

Fire pit and tables at group site

This campsite is also part of the Lake Oroville SRA so I am duplicating my review from the main Yelp page. I just got home from my family's annual camping trip, and I Must say I enjoyed this campsite. Since school is back in session or almost, the campground was pretty empty. It was perfect!! The other group sites were empty til The weekend. We spent 4 days and 3 nights at the Loafer Creek group campsites (8/10-8/13). Our site had 8 parking spots, a large sink and food area wth a large grill, and plenty of tables around a centralized fire pit, and 5 designated spots for tents that could fit 2 large tents (12 person) or 3 tents at each pod. There were plenty of trees for cover, minimal bugs/ant/spiders/bees. And a restroom/showers About 100 feet away (bring dollar bills for tokens- 1 token=2 minutes). You see a lot that you won't see on a regular basis like Tons of deer that wander through, and a horse campsite across the way. And we didn't see any Rattle snakes or any snakes!! The park rangers were cool at the entrance, there was young female who was very helpful and friendly (she helped us with locating swim areas and hiking area like Feather Falls-which is a MUST if you're in the area), and the older/shorter stout lady just looks mean (she didn't say anything or interact with us). The first night we were there we didn't see police or park rangers. The weekend nights, park rangers drove by and checked out the sites once every night, except the night we got too loud playing games around the campfire (we knew we were loud, but didn't realize it was passed 10pm and "quiet time"), the ranger nice, cracked some jokes and just reminded us to Lee it down so we don't get complaints from other campers. No harm no foul. Unlike all the other posts I've seen on here, they didn't bother or harass us. We had a large group of 25 people, ranging from 3-45years old, my 77 lb. American Pitbull Terrier (accompanied/leashed/under control at all times), and just to add...we are also a racially diverse bunch with lots of tattoos and alcohol, that have music playing all day (Asian, Filipino, Hispanic, Caucasian). There's a market and gas station down the street with an icee machine and a killer tritip sandwich. *Cons* no current swimming area at this location. The pictures that are pictured and posted previously after the rain that show signs with "No dogs on beach" is no longer relevant. There is no water access within walking distance. From what rangers and locals told us, They released water/drained the lake 100-150 feet below the post flood levels. We ended up going to the aquatic park (which is also an Oroville SRA so with your parking tag from the ranger you can get in for free). We swam, BBQd, and rented stand up paddle boards and my dog got to swim there too! No water access is the only reason I'm 4-starring this review. Tip: don't hang things from the trees (ropes, hammocks, etc) it damages the trees, no loud noise after 10pm (be mindful of other campers), don't walk through bush or unmarked trails (tons of poison oak and possible contact with rattlesnakes), bring dollar bills. Lastly and mostly...get out there, relax and enjoy your loved ones, get off your phones and tablets and enjoy nature!!

Will be nice if they ever let eater levels up like they did before. As of now they enlarged boat trailer/car parking and repaved and stripped the lot but you can't launch or get to the water because it is not long enough to reach water. I can understand why due to having to keep low levels of water in case of big storms they cannot accurately predict right now with a dam and spillway not yet finished rebuilding spillway

We went in March when the weather was unusually warm this year and the water was f l o w i n g. There isnt much tree cover as there used to be after the fires in this area, so if you're coming on a sunny day, be well prepared with sun protection and water. The majority of the hike is uncovered if you start after the morning hours. How amazingly gorgeous it is here!!! Full of sweet sweet serenity…read more.. For Easter, my daughter & I decided to go here for our hike!! First, the directions on Google maps suck. You need to keep going down the freeway passed Coal Canyon Road We parked in a large rocky parking lot. At this point, you need to use the bathrooms because there aren't any along your path or trail. I found it hard to stay hydrated because since there aren't bathrooms along the way. I didn't want to drink too much water in case it makes me have to go. We started our hike at 1:15pm. The first part of the hike is a very rocky dirt path. No shade. So wear your sun screen! It was beautiful along the way with beautiful green grass, gorgeous flowers. There were free range cows roaming around. This hike can be very challenging to someone who doesn't work out or get their heart rate up daily. There were a couple large Oaks trees offering us some shade just before you approach the quarry. It's a good resting point but we kept on. For this part, we were climbing down into a quarry, surrounded by trees and bushes, over the rocks, down the path, going back and forth... to come to the first waterfall. It was refreshing and rewarding! Being able to feel the water coming down over you after hiking down from the sun was exhilarating! Now, you have to climb your way up the other side. This is where a big challenge comes in. Up the other side, walking up a very vertical hill, over the rocks... really takes your breath away and makes your legs burn.. we loved every minute of it. When you get to the top, there are no trees up here, just more hills to walk up with rocks below your feet. So wear some good shoes! Getting to the top of that part was another waterfall. It was only visible from far away, but even more gorgeous! The sun was hitting it just right to make a rainbow in the mist. It took us 2 1/2-3 hours to get to that particular part of the hike (we spent quite a bit of time at the previous waterfall). At this point we decided to go back... but you need to go back the way you came. We were pretty out of shape for this hike but we love challenges. So up and back over the hills, back down the steep quarry full of trees, down the rocky path, back to the first waterfall (and we spent time down there again, lol) and then climbing out of that quarry, we decided to stop at those big oak trees to make a sandwich to share. After our long rest, getting some fuel in our bodies, and getting nice and hydrated, we started out way down the rocky path. Again, the rocky path made it very challenging. Our legs were really worked from all the climbing up the hills we did so we've smaller hill after that made us feel the burn! Oh... there nothing like the motivation of seeing that parking lot, lol. It was indeed time to get into the air conditioned car and into a comfy seat in the car. Oooh and finally!!! Bathrooms!!! Lol My daughter & I had a blast on our hike for Easter. There were so many families that day who had the same idea. The weather was perfectly sunny with a slight breeze. It was 6 p.m. by the time we sat in the car and turned on the air conditioning. Great timing since I didn't have to drive in the dark on our way home!

Oroville's Most Famous Couple- Jesse and Cornelia…read more Charles Lott was a lawyer who came to Oroville from Quincy, Illinois, in the mid 1800s. He came west with the Quincy Party in hopes of finding gold. However, he soon discovered that gold mining was heavy, dirty work. He decided that practicing law, settling claim disputes and other matters, was more lucrative than trying to "strike it rich." Charles became a pillar in the community. He ended up becoming a very successful lawyer and eventually became a judge. He went on to become Senator of California in 1851. Eventually, he bought the parcel of land on the main thoroughfare and began building a home there. Meanwhile, he returned to his family home and met Susan Heyer of Pennsylvania. They were married and came to Oroville just as the house was being finished. The Lott's had three children, Charles Fayette, also called Faye, Cornelia Deare, and Sarah Virginia. Sarah died of unknown causes just before turning three. The two surviving Lott children had obvious undesirable traits. Faye was evidently not the most intelligent man. He apparently shunned work but loved to gamble and go to the bars downtown. He would get all dressed up and spend his time in these venues. Cornelia walked with a limp and had some sort of facial tic, apparently as a result of her mother falling down the stairs during pregnancy. For these reasons, Charles felt the only reason anyone would want to marry his children would be for their money. So, he forbade them to marry. However, Cornelia fell in love with Jesse Sank sometime before 1918. Even though her father would not allow them to marry, they maintained a relationship. Susan mother died when Cornelia was 26 years old. Charles hired a seamstress he had met during his travels and she took over the running of the household. She sent Cornelia to finishing school in San Francisco and made it extremely difficult for her to visit home during holidays and vacations. Charles died in 1918, and Faye followed in his father's footsteps in forbidding Cornelia to marry. It was not until Faye died in 1927 that Cornelia and Jesse were finally able to get married. They bought a 1922 Buick and traveled to various places, a rarity of the times. They frequently went on picnics and were very community minded. Jesse spent time working on the house and garden. Much of it was built especially for Cornelia. Jesse installed the fireplace, which included a very special message. He also built modern bathroom for her. After Cornelia died, Jesse continued to carry out tasks that had she had expressed as being her wishes. When he died, his will stated as she willed- that the home and garden be donated to the city as a museum. The couple never had children, so even though the home is over 150 years old only two generations lived there. Some of the furnishings on display are original to the house. Some are not original but are of the times and were donated. The lamp fixtures in the Music Room are original to the house. The table and chairs in the dining room were bought from the old Hearst Summer House near Palermo. Among the artifacts is a drawing of a horse done by Cornelia. Various artifacts are rotated for viewing approximately every three months. Some of these treasures are Battenberg Lace, antique toys, and even a framed piece made of human hair. The Buick is still at the house as well, stored in a carriage house that was built sometime after the original construction of the house. Go back in time by visiting the Lott Home in Sank Park. See how the Lott's and Sank's lived and find out more about the amazing life of the family.

The inside, which you can tour for a small fee, has been completely restored and has many pieces of period furniture, household objects, and clothing that help show what the home might have looked like when occupied.
