Best ice cream in Arkansas! I've loved following Loblolly since their humble beginnings and have truly loved seeing them continue to grow and thrive. I used to live basically next door and included a walk here for ice cream as a part of many of my days back then. Now whenever my wife and I visit this is a must-visit destination. I went with the brownie sundae, which is exactly how it sounds - one scoop and two toppings. I pointed at a dark chocolate looking flavor with marshmallow and chunks to it. One drawback would be the weird labeling - with the names all in a line not stacked on glass as they are in the case. My toppings were hot fudge and whipped cream. Delicious! There are so many dairy free options and ice cream flavors in general! The gluten free waffle cones are made in house and was the best I've ever had. Portions are generous. Flavors can be found on their website but some of the dairy free included chocolate sorbet, vanilla (coconut cream based), caramel apple sorbet, chocolate pinnacle, cosmic brownie chocolate, cookie butter and more. Ice creams are clearly marked with allergens (milk, wheat, nut, etc). I'm so glad I taste tested because the dairy free vanilla coconut shocked me! It was SO good. I ordered it on a gluten free cone and topped with the vegan dark chocolate sauce and candied pecans. My husband ordered the regular ice cream, pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie on a gluten free cone with the candied pecans on top. Hands down, best dairy free ice cream and gluten free cone. Whatever you could ask for in a high-end ice cream place, this is pretty much it. They have a ton of flavors, plenty of vegan options, and what they do, they do well. I considered a flight, but I doubt I would have finished it and I wanted to try one of their special cones. The cone was billed as gluten-free and vegan, and had a slightly unusual crisp texture and a mild but noticeable flavor that paired well with the cream. It held together well enough. I figured you had to try the Arkansas mud when in Arkansas, and it delivered the rich mix of chocolate-y goodness one would expect. The vegan chocolate peppermint didn't taste wildly different; maybe a tad more dry but certainly not lacking in flavor. The mint chip was excellent, with little green flecks and a fresh taste. I've been gone from the area for 7 years, and was delighted to visit and see that Loblolly has opened their own shop and expanded their offerings! They still excel in small batch ice cream, yet also have a selection of cookies, brownies, macarons, and s'mores; homemade marshmallows, hot chocolate, and coffee concoctions. The branding is spot on...so colorful and cheerful, one can't help but smile. I was so impressed with all of the small details: color changing spoons, adorable tokens for gifting, and even Arkansas shaped graham crackers in their s'more's kits. It's all about the details, and they are perfection. Now on to the ice cream...it's good stuff. We tried the Arkansas Mud, Salted Caramel, Morning Brew, some type of Peach Bourbon, and Strawberry. The Arkansas Mud and Strawberry flavors are my top picks! Morning Brew is a tad bit icey versus creamy, in my opinion. But all are delicious. As a mom of a kid with allergies, I really appreciate the dairy free and vegan options. Although I know it's tough to accommodate all, if they offered some nut free flavors that they separated during processing/sale to minimize the chances of cross contamination, that would be amazing! (And seems very doable since they make in small batches, could have dedicated nut free scoops, etc.) I'd love to take my son here; it's virtually impossible to find ice cream shops or bakeries without nuts/cc risks...but I think Loblolly could conquer this challenge. read more
