This was our last eating stop before heading home from our PEI vacation. Not truly satisfied by the lobster roll we had at the beginning of the week, we stopped here after hearing good things about it. The good: The food! Oh my goodness, the food was terrific! Very good lobster roll with sweet mayo. Strawberry dessert was also very good. Service was terrific. Since you will have to wait, they have a waiting system where you can go out and visit the surrounding shops. The bad: Like all lobster rolls, you can find pieces of shell, be careful. VERY busy, you can wait even if you reserved. You will not have a seat if you did not have a reservation. Smaller place. This is a definite stop. Best food of the whole trip. read more

Ordered the original lobster roll and it had zero flavour. So weird! It was pretty full of lobster but the lobster just tasted like nothing. Potato salad was very yummy that went alongside it. Ambiance and service was nice, just think there may be better options out there! read more

We ordered two buttered lobster rolls that came without butter. You would think they would come with butter since they're called buttered lobster rolls, but we were charged four dollars extra for warm butter. That was not the only irritating thing about the restaurant that gave us warning. The lobster rolls come with french fries which by the way are excellent and highly recommended. However, the lobster roll is just OK. I ordered an up charge of onion rings that turned out to be frozen Ore-Ida brand, onion rings and not worthy of an up charge of five bucks. The onion rings were greasy, not good poor quality and so I asked them to be removed from the bill and did not eat them. I guess that may have upset the restaurant manager because when our lobster rolls came and there was no butter on them, we ask for warm butter they brought it however they charged us an up charge of four dollars for the warm. If you're traveling in the area, skip this place other than the view it's really not worth the stop in because the food is just OK and the people are just not friendly so head on to the next place it's got to be better than this place. read more

This spot was a gem on PEI for many years. Newer ownership now. We had reservations last night, and were very disappointed. No adult supervision of staff, absolutely zero class, and any form of hospitality training. Food was the big issue. Nothing was scratch homemade anymore, the food was extremely overpriced, poor quality out of a container potato salad/cole slaw, and the cold cooked lobsters were not served with drawn butter, and not even cut/cracked??? I would not waste my time or money to ever return. If this was a place that has had memories for anyone in the past, don't go back to relive them here. read more

Visiting from the US this was a very place the locals recommended. Staying in Bonshaw it was close and they were right. The lobster and fish and chips were amazing. New ownership / management & it shows... Previously one of the two best places to get a lobster roll on PEI... but his year the prices are up ( and the previously default salad is now an "extra") the quality of lobster roll is down and the size may or may not be as well. The potato salad was tasty.... But that wasn't what I was paying $29 for. The meal also now comes in a plastic basket instead of on plate. The service was good (hence the two stars). However the fact that the LOWEST preprogrammed tip amount n the debit machine is 18% is a bit obnoxious. We would historically make several trips to Victoria-by-the-Sea each summer and be willing to line up to get a lobster roll and their great salad. Unfortunately now the price + quality do not equal value. Now it's a tourist trap. I won't be back again. read more

This local eatery in Victoria-by-the-sea has good food and a laid-back atmosphere. I was surprised to find it still quite busy, even during the off-season. I suppose that's a good sign - the locals like it enough to keep coming, even when the tourists are gone. Some of the patrons can be a bit rough around the edges (for reference, the staff all had shirts that read "Sex, Drugs, and Lobster Rolls"), but overall it's not too rowdy. I've only had a few lobster rolls in my life - so I'm hardly a connoisseur - but the one I had here was my favorite so far. Lots of meat and not too much mayonnaise. The clam chowder was also quite good. Overall the meal was nice. If you're looking for good eats in PEI during the off-season when most everywhere else is a ghost town, check out Victoria. read more

I have eaten at The Lobster Barn many times and since the new ownership the quality of the food and service has greatly diminished and I will not be returning and would not recommend the restaurant. In the past their lobster rolls were my favourite on the island, but on my recent visit the amount and quality of lobster was not even comparable to what it once was. There was very little mayo and lobster, and what lobster there was, was set on top of the roll and the roll was filled with lettuce not lobster. The hamburger was a box burger and the kids meals are now $15 per meal, which is more than double their previous price, but the amount of food and quality has not improved. I also had a gift certificate and they refused to honour it. Needless to say, I will not be returning, nor will the 2 other families that dined with us, nor will I be recommending it to my guests at my several vacation rental properties in the area. read more

Wow! From here on out, every lobster roll will be compared to this! It's location is off of the beaten path. We would never had visited if it wasn't for a local giving us a great tip! Dining here is a treasure especially with it's beautiful view. They offer patio seating but on the day we visited it was quite windy. It really wouldn't have been ideal for eating. Since I was told by a local to order their lobster roll, I didn't have to look at the menu. INCREDIBLE. The robust flavor of the fresh lobster is astounding! The roll was fresh and mouth watering. My meal wouldn't have been complete without their wonderful sweet potato fries. I couldn't eat my meal fast enough. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 was their service. Waiting for drink refills happened too often. Even asking for side condiments took her 15 minutes. She was sidetracked quite a bit. We had to wave her down to ask again. Really impressed by this place! There were two restaurants on the pier and this was the more appealing option. My mom was worried everything would be fried but she had the lobster roll which, as reviews have said, is excellent. Very little mayo and huge chunks of lobster! She had this with a side salad which was beautiful and fresh. I had the scallop bacon burger (no burger just scallops and bacon) which was amazing. Some sauce on my scallops was to die for. While visiting PEI in mid July, my friend and I came across the seaside village of Victoria and the little wharf that Lobster Barn is located on. I ordered the Lobster Roll ($16) and split my side between half potato salad and half house salad (I was told they dont normally split the sides, but offered to due to my inability to make quick decisions, but mostly we came at a slow time). My friend got the Full Chilled Lobster Dinner ($22) with fries and a black bean and rice salad. The lobster roll was delicious, the size of the lobster pieces were great for the price and larger that any lobster roll I have previously eaten. The house salad was great, with a yummy balsamic vinaigrette. Standard potato salad, I personally prefer a chunkier potato salad but it was fine as is. The only real change would be to toast the lobster bun a bit more, however, I do prefer a crunchier bite than maybe others. The waitress was happy to help my friend break the lobster and pull out the meat. The lobster was very fresh (although it was in fact chilled, my friend would have preferred that it was served warm) and came with warm butter. Fries were great, light and tasty, and the bean and rice salad was a bit of a basic flavour. Overall, we agreed we would definitely recommend this place to friends visiting PEI. Love love love the Lobster Barn! It is a must if you are on the island, and clearly a location loved by the locals. Took my aunt and kids here and has the best lobster roll ever. Service was fantastic, such a happy warm and inviting place to go. Not only was the lobster roll incredible but the potato salad side was to die for-I could have had two full plates. The kids were well services with. An offer to split a lobster for the two of them-then to split cheese nachos when they realized lobster isn't for them-oh well more for my Aunt and I-they were so accommodating-love when I visit a restaurant and the staff are good to my kids. Came here on our way to Charlottetown (via bridge). Cellphone in hand with Yelp app opened, searching as we drove. Found this restaurant with favorable reviews. Pulled off the highway and came to this little town. A clear September evening with gentle breeze in our face. Restaurant was packed full of people. Hostess asked if we had a reservation. Sadly we didn't. She told us we could have a table immediately if we didn't mind sitting outside on the patio. We will take it! 3 adults and 3 little ones squeezed at one of the patio tables. We were starving. This was our friend's first time to PEI so we decided to order all the signature dishes: mussels, lobster roll, scallop roll, fish & chips, seafood chowder, and a seafood platter. The waiter couldn't believe how much we ordered. We assured him we were hungry enough to finish everything. The mussels were sweet and freshly steamed. I had the seafood platter. There were sufficient amount of seafood but the salad was insipid. My husband had the scallop roll and said while the scallops were sweet, the rest was just okay. Our friend had the lobster roll. Kids shared the fish&chips and chowder. As promised, we finished everything. This is a decent local restaurant off the beaten path. Price is a bit high but sort of expected on PEI. read more
