The ice maker in our Kenmore refrigerator had been broken for quite a while. Since the refrigerator and freezer were still cold, we kept saying we'd deal with it eventually. Eventually come when the freezer started making a completely different, strange noise. I assumed the two problems were connected and was worried that whatever had caused the ice maker failure was now affecting the freezer. The technician checked both issues independently rather than assuming they had the same cause. As it turned out, they were unrelated. He repaired the ice maker and also located the source of the noise around the freezer fan area and made the necessary adjustment. Afterward, he tested both systems before wrapping everything up. One thing I particularly liked was how he separated things that genuinely needed attention from things that could simply be monitores. There wasn't a list of five recommended repairs suddenly added to the invoice. First of all, I had two other estimates from other companies for repairing my Sub Zero fridge and they told me that I needed a compressor and the estimate was for almost $2000! Rick was great! He came by to diagnose a dryer that was taking several cycles to many to dry clothes. After inspecting, he determined it was a clogged vent, and because he doesn't do professional vent cleaning (and hence wouldn't be able to clean my heavily clogged vent), he completely waived his service charge for me! Even better, he told me exactly what a fair cost would be for a professional vent cleaner to remedy my problem. Very nice guy, honest, punctual, and very responsive. My LG washing machine started leaking after 13 years, and then my super-quiet GE dishwasher, only four-years old, had no electricity. I found Local Appliance Repair on Yelp, and a repairman named Alex could come the next day. I learned up front that a house call fee would be charged, which could be then applied to any repair I had them do. Arriving promptly when scheduled, Alex started with the dishwasher, and found the socket that it was plugged into had electricity. He opened up the machine and took electrical readings at various points and in a half hour determined the controlling card had gone out and the programming buttons may be out, too. The price of repair was going to be almost what I paid for the machine. Et tu GE? I then ran the LG washing machine for Alex.He found the leak in the main gasket, as well as the door hinges were off, which meant there was not a good seal all around. The repair of that, too, would be the price of the machine. In sum, Alex showed me clearly the problems of both machines. I was impressed with his skills and knew he could repair both, but for the money, I could see I'd be better off getting new machines. The house call fee was well worth it to see what I needed. When our dryer started making loud banging noises a couple months ago, we were afraid we might have to replace it. My mom and I tried looking inside and even opening the bottom panel, but we're not experts and couldn't see the actual problem. So we contacted Local Dryer Repair and they sent over Alex. Alex was very friendly, courteous and professional. He was able to determine the problem quickly. Our dryer basically needed maintenance work and duct cleaning. They unfortunately don't provide duct cleaning but Alex was kind enough to show me on Yelp who to call. He went ahead and did the maintenance and after getting the duct pipe cleaned, our dryer worked like new. Found Local Appliance on Yelp -- I submitted an appointment request online very late on Thursday night for a Saturday appointment, and the office called at 8:45 Friday morning to confirm for Saturday. The visit fee ($69) would be applied to any work, which was nice. I was happy with the super fast response -- I was told the tech would text before arriving, and Alex messaged me to say he was on his way. He arrived promptly on time, and spent about 45 minutes diving into my washing machine. Unfortunately my ancient machine is probably past its time, but Alex's efforts were appreciated in confirming that. The payment process was very simple -- they take any method but prefer card, which can be done straight from their phones. I'll definitely book in the future if I have other issues.
