In Galveston for a few days, decided to try local dogs based on Restoring Galveston show. Was not at all surprised by how nice the building was based on Ashley and Michael's work. The food was delicious, I tried the Chicago dog and wife had a Coney Dog, we split fries and each had a water. The bonus was Michael was taking orders at the register. Very personable, thanked us several times for our business. We love a good success story and the hard work that goes with it! I came here thinking it was a dog-friendly place, but that couldn't be further from the truth. When I brought my dogs, I was told they were only allowed outside--not inside at all. Even more confusing, there's a grass area on-site with a sign that says absolutely no dogs allowed. They also don't offer any kind of dog menu or accommodations. Based on the name and overall vibe, I really expected this place to be much more welcoming to pets, but it's 100% not. Unfortunately, this is not somewhere I would ever bring my dogs again. Cute place! Between 3 of us we tried the Coney Island, Chicago, and Philly dogs (veggie). All were very tasty! Super soft buns too. Don't skip out on the fries (devoured them) or the frosé... it tastes like they muddle strawberries and mix them into it. Yum! There is plenty of room indoors and a nice area outside, but I will say they could definitely be more dog-friendly. With their name and all the dogs with their logo, it'd be extra cute if they had a little dog menu. There's an area that looks like a place where dogs could play but it is for children. Stumbled upon this place as originally planning to stop only at local cones after a google search, but decided to have both instead of stopping on for dinner on our drive home from Houston. The hot dogs were slim, but pricing creates the assumption you were getting a larger hot dog. Taste was fine, chili wasn't great and didn't love paying the same for a plain hotdog for my dog as my hotdog with ketchup, mustard, and onions ($8 each). Fries were fine no complaints but the deviled eggs and Local Cones were the best part. First time trying this local spot out. Very clean and inviting on the outside and the inside. Large community style seating was great. Our server was very friendly and explained the menu. He even gave us suggestions as first timers. The food came out quick and was hot and fresh. The fries are fresh cut skin on. They were delicious. The Local Dog comes covered is queso. The Philly Dog is smothered in Peppers, Onions and Cheese. If you're on Galveston this is a must for a quick meal at a good price. Lots of other options on the menu. Don't pass them up! read more

Why 5 stars? Because these dogs were delicious and not overly filling. --- --- --- My in-laws have made it an annual tradition to get a beach house in Galveston around Thanksgiving every year and Local Dogs was our first stop after we arrived into town. We have a great hot dog place near us in Conroe, but the negative is that after we eat there, we leave with bricks in our stomach. Here, I had a couple of hot dogs and some sides and left feeling like a million bucks. I think the key is that they are not too big, which also gives the benefit of being able to try more, because the menu is full of awesome variety. I went with the Chicago Dog (plus ketchup, minus mustard obviously), and the french dip. I'd give the Chicago 5-stars and the french dip 4. I also appreciated that they had cheese curds as a side, something I'll always opt for when it's on a menu. The fries were really solid too. Yum! Even though I am picky and just got a plain hot dog, the hot dog was delicious! Super juicy and well cooked on a buttery brioche bun. The loaded fries were great as well. Super fun and casual atmosphere here. The service is great - we were actually waited on by the owner himself. I've been hearing it's been crowded here since opening, but today there was almost no wait and we were able to get a table for our whole group (10 people). It's nice how they have the long communal tables. Philly cheesesteak dog was very good but next time I want to try the local dog. Fried very fresh but could have been crispier. Cheese curds were amazing. I want to give a demerit for having Pepsi instead of Coke but I enjoyed my visit so much, I won't complain. Nice merch too. I love a good hot dog! Local Dogs is super modern and a classic atmosphere. I was debating on how many dogs to get but I knew I wanted cheese curds. I opted for one dog. I also ordered a dirty soda. We stopped by for lunch while in Galveston visiting the Bryan Museum. We've been wanting to try it since we watched the episode on Restoring Galveston. It was a Thursday afternoon. We had no trouble finding a parking spot. Walked right up to the window to order and were surprised to see Michael working. Ordered and took our seats in their large dining area. Soon after our hot dogs arrived. Fast and friendly service. Michael walked around the dining area greeting guests and thanking them for stopping by. Just got back from Galveston after getting some awesome drone footage of the Carnival Dream leaving port and needed a bite before hitting the road back to Houston. Checked Yelp and Local Dogs was high on the list, so I stopped in around 5 PM. I can see why it's so well-rated--it's a solid spot! The Good Stuff (The "Pros") * The staff was incredibly friendly, making for a very welcoming experience. * The entire restaurant was spotlessly clean, and I appreciated the open kitchen concept--you can tell they take pride in their space. * My food came out super fast! I'm not sure if that's standard, but it wasn't busy when I was there. * The main event, the hot dog, was genuinely tasty. I got the Coney Islander (chili, onions, cheese, and mustard). It hit the spot! * A small but important detail: the fountain drink ice is fantastic! It's like a smaller, chewable nugget/pebble ice. A+ for that. * They even have free stickers (grabbed a couple for my drone case) --- Room for Improvement (The "Cons") * The biggest letdown was the fries. Quality of the hotdog is still delicious so are the deviled eggs per usual. We got the Cajun Corn this time and it was spot on. Of course the dirty drinks are the best here and the hotdog are delicious. The customer service is on point. If they aren't too busy, people will walk around clean up your table and bring you anything you need which is really a bonus when you think of a hot dog place because you think casual, but the service is top-notch. The Cordray's nailed it! All beef weiners browned on the grill, buttery split buns toasted on grill with every topping imaginable. They also have hamburger sliders, pulled pork sliders, chicken salad, deviled eggs, Cajun corn and frito pie! We didn't get any sides as this was our first visit and we wanted to focus on the dogs. Tami was very helpful knowing that it was our first time. And Michael was back there working with the crew and checking in with customers in the spacious picnic style dining area. So happy we tried this new spot! There were a few parking spaces available out front which were appreciated. When we pulled up, there was already a line of people waiting for it to open. A good sign! The menu was great with hot dog and non-hot dog options. My husband got the Chicago and French Dip while I opted for a non-dog option and got the chicken salad sliders. Both hot dogs were great, but the French Dip was definitely better. The only complaint my husband had was that he expected them to be a little bigger which is why he ended up having to get 2. My chicken salad sliders were delish and the perfect amount of food for me. We sat outside on the patio which was nice and definitely kid friendly with there being a lot of outdoor games to play. Only suggestion I'd make would be to have some music or something playing out there to break up the silence. We will definitely be back! read more

Finally had a chance to take my two wieners here and I'm glad I did. Place is super clean and organized, and the staff was extra friendly and helpful with what to order, what's popular, and even offered sides, drinks, and desserts. They've also got some cool local dog hats and T-shirts. I went with the Local and the Coney Islander (chili cheese dog) and both were on point I would def recommend to try them both! One thing I have to say that I truly love about their Coney Islander (chili dog) is that the chili didn't have running juice going everywhere on the bun making it soggy. At this price point you would expect perfect execution of the concept. Instead we got soggy fries, underwhelming dogs, and warm beer. They serve Nathan's all beef franks, which are good hot dogs, but for the price I would expect a Nathan's "colossal" four ounce dog. What you get is a standard bun length dog, for nine dollars. Hand cut fries are great if you fry them correctly, which is a two step process. Today ours were browned but very soggy, probably the result of frying them only a single time. Whatever fries won "Best on The Island" these weren't them. Beer was warm. The chiller had been turned off overnight resulting in warm kegs. I understand this is an unusual situation and we were given a bottle of beer that was cold, but it indicates a problem with management and employee training. You can see the owner's attitude in her responses to reviews which may be the root of the problem. The building is perfectly clean, completely refurbished with a sensible modern dining room and pleasant patio. The space outshone the food served in it. Ashley, don't get mad, do better. Serve a piping hot colossal dog with perfect golden crispy fries and ice cold beer and you might see repeat business picking up. read more

Please consider lowering the noise level and changing the type of music in the future if you want to attract a bigger crowd.
