They sell beach toys, buckets, sunscreen and sandals. They also have lunchmeat, ice cream and a few more quick easy meal items. The store was nice and clean. I did not buy anything so I cannot comment on the service. They also sell gasoline. I would stop in here again if I needed something. read more

Nice folks but service needs improvement. Out of some items on menu. Settled on a sandwich, was told it wouldn't have cheese. I get order, drive 20 mins away, go to eat order and guess what, cheese is on sandwich. I understand mistakes happen but this simply wasted $15 of my money as I am allergic to cheese. No place to wait on order either. I'd pass this option up unless you are starved and without a vehicle and this is absolutely your only option. read more

Fresco Mart (formerly Hummel's) is a great location for convenience, breakfast and lunch. The new owners have really updated the store and prices are in the average range. The deli, once a literal hole in the wall, is now great serving counter. Prices are midrange, but the plate lunch is a whole lot of food. They offer authentic Mexican, sandwiches and great burgers. I eat there weekly, even with other options in the area. read more

Formerly Hummel's... now Frescomart. They have another location in Houston. Predatory business practices indeed. The new owners refuse to post any prices for any of their goods. They can charge whatever they wish at any time, without the customer knowing. I always try to support local businesses versus chain stores. However in this instance, I have chosen not to support this business unless they post prices. read more

Though it is a convenience store, it is really much more. Of course you can get any essentials without going into town but beyond that there is a deli / cafe that is very good. Top quality meats and cheese from Boars-head in addition to breakfast items and pizzas. read more

New owners. Beer price is up 25%. Previously same $ as in Houston or Galveston's Randall's just minutes away. AC at 79F - they may not realize the risks of loosing business from local property owners that can easily shop elsewhere. We would like to support our local vendor, with perhaps a 10% convenience cost, but the current premium pricing and disappointing experience has caused our interest in patronizing this store to plummet sadly. read more

First time here. They have everything thing in this place. It's a general store, deli, hot food made to order and then some. You can take stuff to go or stay and eat at their counter or at an outside table. They serve and sell Boar's Head meats and other specialty items. They even have a great wine selection. While on a work trip I needed to use the bathroom and on this stretch of road, there are no bathrooms available as well as no porta potties on the beach. I ran in there and begged the clerk if I could use his bathroom real quick. He told me no that they didn't have a bathroom which is a lie. Of course they have a bathroom but it's for employees, whatever. He then pointed to a TV screen with multiple camera views on it next to him that the entire store could see and pointed to a drain on the ground at the back of the store and told me I could go squat back there. How disrespectful and rude to say some thing like that to a human being. I understand you don't want to let people use the bathroom. But to tell a woman to go drop her pants and squat over a hole in the ground in the back of their store with a camera watching her for the entire store to see... Are you kidding me!?! read more

This local convenience store is excellent. It's been here for years. Mr Hummel passed away a couple of years ago but the new owners are doing great. First, get in the island summer mood. Imagine waves breaking, and a hot sunbather on the beach: ___/\___/\____/|____/"___r__, ...................L-------xxx--n;-O))............. After swimming and sunbathing, you get hot and hungry. Ice cold Beer cave !! That is the main attraction to beach bums, and is the largest in Galveston County. Lots of selection and quantity at the perfect temperature of 28 degF. They have a fairly large wine offering, as well. This grocery in Pirates Beach has the main typical foods and condiments for weekenders, and enough for locals to avoid having to go into town for some basic foods. It also has all those little things you forgot to bring or pickup, such as ice, fishing items and beach toys. Plus, they sell breakfast and lunches. They have breakfast burritos, a full service deli, and some hot sandwiches like a traditional Philly Cheesesteak sandwich (the owner is a Philadelphia native). Burgers are the old-fashioned greasy style. After swimming exertion, these taste just fine. From the early days of Pirate's Beach development, the ritziest West End development at that time, they envisioned a small local place like this. New owner (Billy) took over the store in 2006. When he is there, ask him about the history of this area and Galveston in general, and then sit back and listen while you eat. Or, go on the porch (if it's not too hot) where there are a few picnic tables with umbrellas. They do not have an online presence yet, but they are not washed up, if you would catch my drift. Side note: The one thing Hummel's doesn't sell is a Hummel, which is a series of porcelain figurines based on the drawings of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. Hummel's General Store and Deli is a great place to pick up some Icy cold beer and wine. Most of the beer is kept in their "Cave" which keeps the beer very cold. They carry a lot of the 24 oz cans also in a large circular metal container on ice which is handy because bottles are not allowed on the beach. There is also a section of various wines. Seemed like a decent size selection for a convenience store. In the back is their fresh to order deli. We ordered a philly steak on a roll with cheese and onions which was delish. They have breakfast and lunch available. They also have a long table in the back to eat your food if you don't want it to go. Also they have some of the usual kiddo beach things to purchase and all kinds of typical bagged snacks. I believe it was the owners that helped us and they were professional and the guy had a great sense of humor. They are past 11th road. If you see Jamaica Beach you've gone to far. I often stop in here to grab a drink or snack while I'm on the island. And if I'm here in the morning I also will go in for a breakfast burrito or two. They have premade burritos and biscuits at the front of the store or you can individually order them fresh at the back. Great stopping point for me on the way to the west end of the island. Great little general store just a tad shy of Jamaica beach. I stopped in for a 6er of Pabst Or Old Milwaukee. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had the new Pabst all American pale ale. Low and behold it tastes a lot like Schlitz. On this note Hummel's is a rare commodity and I' LL be back to get some deli meats too ...the crest of a good day! read more

We wanted to grab a local breakfast for my family before our 13Hr roadtrip. Order our Breakfast biscuit sandwiches grabbed some souvenirs and headed out. As my children began to eat they were complaining it was so cold. All 3 sandwiches had frozen eggs and sausage. Needless say I was disappointed and my kids are still hungry. read more

For being a corner store in Galveston's west end area, Hummels is great. All of the meats and cheeses are Boarshead. The ice cream is Blue Bell. The cold beer selection is more than respectable, the wine is available chilled or not. We went for something to eat in the evening after moving. No complaints considering we had dinner from the corner convenience store. Happy to be in the same neighborhood. The Philly steak sandwiches are delicious, just know that you have to order before 1:30 pm. Sometimes they run out before then. Ya snooze, ya lose. read more

We love Hummel's. Staff is really nice and prices are competitive enough not to go all the way to town for a forgotten grocery item. Love that he carries Boar's Head deli items too. Great pizza, better than that marios crap, and the over-priced Jamaica Beach nut guy, and get your beer here, not from those jerks that run the liquor store in Jamaica Beach. They have great sandwiches at Hummels and great fried chicken, this is a fun store with nice folks who are very friendly. They have really great greeting cards also, like birthday cards, etc. and some other fun knick-knacks. Great corner store!! Pizzas are great and doesn't cost a lot. Under $10 compared to just under $30, well worth it. We picked up groceries while waiting for our "made to order" sandwiches, which were great. Best part...the ice cold beer!!
