I asked to have my garage door opener looked at. They told me after looking at my door opener that the motor was bad and it needed to be replaced. 1250 dollars later it was replaced. I told the tech that the new opener didn't have a light bulb. He said light bulb was no included in the price. I told him to give me back my old motor that had two light bulbs in it. I took a bulb from the old one and put it in the new one. Afterwards I checked the old motor by plugging it in and playing with the buttons on the back of the motor. It started working fine. The motor was never a problem. I also had to have them come back to fix the wiring that was hanging down. Very disappointed in the service. I would have gave 0 stars but not an option. read more

LGD's prices were the same as other companies so I felt it correct to give them our business. Gabriel was the tech guy who came out. He worked at my mom's house (86yo) without me there. Mom said he was polite, cleaned up afterwards, and even helped her with a couple of other things that he noticed. Good quality work and pricing similar to others. EDIT in response to Kathryn: Last minute cancellation, you say? Your tech didn't show up at the agreed upon time after I paid the depot and took time off work. I only ordered the door 4 days earlier, and the installation promise was the deciding factor. Handshakes are a verbal contract, and that contract was broken. If you want to make this right, refund my deposit or at least 50% on good faith. That will make this right. Your response is shallow and shows you have no interest in correcting your mistakes. ‐----------- I can't speak to the quality of work that Local Garage Door Company of Rocklin performs, as I never got that far. One thing I've learned about this company over the past 4 days is that they lack any sort of moral or ethical compass. I don't doubt that if things go smoothly, you'll be a satisfied customer. But how does a company respond when things don't go perfectly? At the time of my initial appointment, the service tech was a no show. I called the office and somehow my appointment was scheduled for a week earlier in their system. Their office was great and was able to get a tech out to the house within the next few hours. When I finally met with Zach and told him my simple expectations, as I'm not a garage expert, the only requirement I told Zach was that the garage door had to be air right and heavily insulated. His quote included a steelbacked polystyrene door with exterior vinyl trim. Sounded good to me. When he told me the door was in stock and available for installation on Friday (4 days later), I paid a $350 deposit and signed the contract on the spot. He scheduled my install for Friday at noon. We shook hands, and he said he would see me on Friday. Yay! Come Friday, I take the day off work. I think it was around 12:30 and Zach was a no-show. I started getting nervous, so again I called their office and they had no record of my appointment in the calendar. Zach put a note on the paperwork that the installation was scheduled for noon on Friday, except nobody from the company apparently actually scheduled the install and Zach never followed up with me. The gentleman on the phone didn't want to lose my business so he said he had a tech available on Saturday at 9 am to complete the installation. I wasn't feeling very confident, but I went ahead and scheduled the installation for Saturday anyways. I started getting a sick feeling in my stomach that this Zach guy was no good and sold me a lousy door. That's when I started researching garage door insulation and saw that polystyrene insulation wasn't the best type of door and that I should have ordered steelbacked polyurethane insulation as that has almost double the r value. Why would I ever want to spend $3500 on a garage door when for only a few hundred more I could get a better quality door with double the r value. I don't know Zachs motivation for trying to sell me a door that didn't meet my requirements. I decided at that moment I no longer could go business with this company. My biggest complaint from this whole fiasco is that Local Garage Door Company of Rocklin refused to credit the depot since the cancelation period had expired 24 hours prior to my phone call. Really? They missed two appointments, I lost a day of work, and they tried to deceitfully sell me an overpriced door that didn't meet my simple needs. As far as I'm concerned, they stole $350 from my family and I find that poor business practice. I will make sure if any of our family or friends are looking for a garage door, we now know the one company to avoid. The only good thing that came out of this is that they didn't show up on Friday to install a door that I would have regretted for the next 30 years. I guess I'll consider myself lucky. I paid $7,300 to have 3 garage doors installed 3 years ago. One door did not receive a signal from the remote control or car unless you got really close to it, which was not ideal but workable. I mentioned it to the tech who said they had some challenges with the receivers on some of these units. We lived with it and got used to it. Recently, the unit would no longer work when activated by a remote inside the car. If you were outside the car, it worked fine. Another tech came out and was confounded. He called the lead service guy who had seen this issue and advised that some units had weak reception and could not receive a signal through the polarized windshield of a car. They would have to order a new motherboard or replace the unit. The unit had a 5 year warranty. I had to actually provide the original paperwork because they could not locate theirs. I then received an $800 estimated for a new unit, including a $30 charge for a surge protector. When I asked why I was receiving an invoice for a warranty repair, they stated that the warranty was void if there was no surge protector. I reminded them that they installed the unit and failed to install a surge protector, nor did they advise me to install one. It is ridiculous to assume that a consumer would think to go behind a professional installer and install his own surge protector. They told me that it was not their practice 3 years ago to include surge protectors in their installations. Ironically, it is now. They further told me that the failure was an "Act of God" due to an electrical surge not mitigated by the $3 surge protector. I asked how that could be when the unit works fine when not triggered through a polarized window. The unit on the other door, which is on the same circuit, works perfectly. As far as I am concerned, these guys are crooks. I located the precise surge protector on Amazon that they had quoted for $30 and bought a package of 4 for $13. Quite a markup they have. So my 5 year warranty was worthless because they failed to install a $3 surge protector or advise me to do so. The fact that the issue had nothing to do with an electrical surge was, in their minds, irrelevant. Their remedy was to offer me a $100 discount on my $800 estimate. I would have to pay the labor in full. I declined. I offered to split the cost with them and they declined. They then accused me of trying to get something for nothing. I bought a new unit at Home Depot for $250 and had another contractor install it for $250. I saved $200 and did not have to deal with crooks. I will be seeking recovery in small claims court. read more

I hired Local Garage Doors to replace my aging door and opener. The initial process was easy enough through their website. However, as the project progressed, it became increasingly difficult to work with this company. First, they said that my order required the project to be 'special order' since they did not have the parts on hand. That was understandable. They then requested 25% as a down payment. The total project was less that $6000, so by California law, the maximum down payment would have been $600. Their own contract even stated this. When I called about this, it took days to hear back but eventually they returned the check for the 25% and I issued the $600. So one hand didn't know that the other was doing. Further, their contract had no provision for special orders, so that caused them to handle it as a standard order. The installation goes as scheduled. But during the the final walk through, I found that there was a security part missing that I had requested. Their installation crew did not have the part with them so one of two things happened; they were not prepared or they intentionally left the part. In order to correct this, I called to schedule them to come back out the following day. Their scheduler confirmed for between 9 and 11 am the next day. I then get a text from the installers that they can't come out until some time in the afternoon or some time the following week. I had already taken time from work to be on site in the morning. I asked for a discount of $200 for the inconvenience of my time by their mistake and I get an hour of text messages stating they could not come. What happen you ask? After I got frustrated and told them to come tomorrow at whatever time and take their ad sign with them, I get a message confirming the original time in the morning. Take from that what you will. As to follow up service, some wiring was damaged during the remodel of the garage interior. I asked for service and they had a tech out a couple of days later. I asked the tech to repair whatever wiring was needed since the contractor was going to cover the cost. The tech cut into the wiring of sensors and used electrical tape to wrap around it. I have never seen a more poorly done wrap in my 20+ years running wiring like this as a casino slot tech. I will be fixing this on my own. Further, they do not use insulated staples and I already have wiring starting to fray. I sent a copy of this to Tyler from Local Garage Doors so that they may address anything outward and openly. His defense of the illegal, and I do mean completely illegal under California law, is; "We understand that this may have come as a surprise and we apologize for any miscommunication on our part. Please know that the extra deposit is normally necessary due to the unique nature of your order and the additional costs associated with fulfilling it." I stated to Tyler that if the company can show me a copy of my contract that states that and that pre-payment is not considered a down payment under California law, I would retract this whole review. This was a two star review. With this response, it is now a one-star. I have receipts as needed. The take away: Read your contract, constantly observe them, and expect difficulties. This is in response to Kathryn; California BPC Section 7159: "8) If a downpayment will be charged, the details of the downpayment shall be expressed in substantially the following form, and shall include the text of the notice as specified in subparagraph (C): (A) The heading:  "Downpayment." (B) A space where the actual downpayment appears. (C) The following statement in at least 12-point boldface type: "THE DOWNPAYMENT MAY NOT EXCEED $1,000 OR 10 PERCENT OF THE CONTRACT PRICE, WHICHEVER IS LESS." (9) If payments, other than the downpayment, are to be made before the project is completed, the details of these payments, known as progress payments, shall be expressed in substantially the following form, and shall include the text of the statement as specified in subparagraph (C):" The initial down payment that was asked for was 25%. That is what made the down payment practice illegal. It was only when I specifically called about this was corrected. The second check was for the 10%, not because I had an issue with the price. You providing this is proof you do not know what you are taking about. There is no section for special orders, no sections stating that any money accepted was for pre-payment, and nothing you say without proof in the contract is valid. read more

Received a consultation yesterday and I requested to have the staff member wear a mask. He refused to put one on saying that it was "company policy that he doesn't wear a mask due to the heat". (Really?!?!) This was absolutely unacceptable as we reached out to your company because the Yelp website states clearly that "staff wears masks". Amongst other Covid-related prevention protocols. Regardless of whether the representative that gave us the quote was either lying or the company actually has a policy in place to not wear masks, I chose to go with a different company to fix my garage. While taking off one's mask when working alone in a hot garage is completely acceptable, refusing to wear one when discussing the quote face to face with a customer after he requests you to put one on and giving a bogus excuse, is not. Our garage door stopped opening fully this morning and since we use it as our main entrance to our home it was a showstopper. I am hands-on with most home repairs, but when I walked outside and saw what looked to be like a tension spring that had broken in half I knew I needed a professional. These guys answered my call quickly, were very friendly, and sent a technician named Jakob out within a couple of hours to perform a free estimate with a three hour window. Jakob showed up a little before the window even started, identified several issues including the spring and had a finalized quote ready to go with a couple of options and a few pitfalls to watch out for down the line based on my specific hardware. Once I approved the price (which seemed reasonable based on my research), he let me know he could be done in an hour or so. An hour later, my garage door is working good as new. Jakob was extremely friendly and I feel as though I got my moneys worth in addition to a long term warranty on the replacement parts and a reasonable warranty on the labor. Thank you! read more

So we have used Local Garage doors twice now. First time they helped us get out garage doors working well. Second time I may have closed a door on a ladder causing it to go crooked and come unspooled. We had been eyeing a jackshaft garage door opener as it's quieter and would free up some space above garage door to put a rack up. Upon talking with them about it they went all in with us. New Rollers, New garage door opener and removal of the old. They told us what time they would arrive after picking up necessary parts and continued repair showing me lots along the way. He provided a more specific quote for the repair, after seeing the actual door. It wasn't much different from that quoted online (A few bucks). They also had a special coupon online, spend $50 and get $100 worth of value, that I used and reduced the cost even further. While I went about my business, the tech finished that door repair then checked out and lubed the other door, letting me know that everything there was good to go.
