My 2-car garage door had a broken spring. Through Yelp messaging, I contacted Local Garage Doors, received an estimate, and got an appointment for the following day. Jon-Paul arrived earlier than the scheduled 2-hour window. He measured the door, got the parts from his truck, and replaced the springs. (Although only one spring broke, it's recommended to replace both for equal wear and tear and balance.) Removing the old springs wasn't easy, as the old hardware was in poor condition, but he got it done. He tested the door, reprogrammed the upper and lower limits on the motor, and tested again. The entire service appointment took about 45 minutes. Fast and efficient! I paid $400 for 2 springs, $199 for labor, and about $50 tax. Buyer beware. I called to get my springs tighted and everything lubed up. I (incorrectly) thought the $50 "lube and tune" would cover everything. When the tech arrived, I was informed that I would need to spend $200 per spring to be tightened (4 springs). We negotiated down to $350 (the "cost" of tightening 2 springs + lube + coupon). The tech was fine, the garage door is definitely better but I did not appreciate the upsell - especially as I now have a receipt stating $200 for a "counter balance door - tighten spings, etc" x 2. I only have 1 garage and 1 garage door. Unfortuntely, I feel a bit suckered. That's on me. I should have said no. read more

Here is my experience with Local Garage Doors in full. My Father is (84) and a 30 year honorably discharged (disabled Veteran). My Mother is 81, and taking care of him on their fixed income. Their garage door stopped working several months ago. When they received "Local Garage doors" Flier my Mother called me. I told her she can't go wrong with a free estimate, senior and/or military discount. My mother called and confirmed all of the above when making an appointment. I was there when the repairman arrived. I showed him the error code on the garage door was I-5. He immediately pulled out his phone saying "I will need a signature of authorization to proceed." It made since so I scribbled on his phone. He then said; "It's going to cost you $150.00 dollars for me to give you a proper estimate." I called my mother from bed, she brought her Flier asking about the free estimate, senior and Military discount. He told some story about gas prices, labor and his company making him charge for visits. He then pressed the reset button on the Garage door motor, and said he can replace it for $1,400,00 while also trying to sell her upgrades. He then placed the posted business sticker on her garage wall and left. His entire visit was less than 15 minutes. My mother paid these people $150.00 to place a sticker on her house. I was angry, because I gave her the green light to contact them without heeding previous reviews. If I could give them negative stars I would. And the response from the manager is more lies. I gave them a chance and they took advantage of an elderly Veteran household. If you pass on these FRADULENT, IMMORAL crooks you will vindicate my Parents stolen $150.00.. have a nice day. read more

When your home is over 40 years old and exposed to salty sea air 24 hours a day, u will eventually need repair - especially when metal components are involved. Queue the garage door! The spring snapped over a year ago (we're actually very lucky it's been working despite the broken spring), the cables connecting the door to the spring are likewise snapped, and the ball bearings are so rusted it sounds like Freddie Krueger scrapping his claws on chalkboard. So as I mentioned above, the door was still working despite the sad state of affairs. What prompted the call to Local Garage Doors was the fact that the door started stalling partway during opening. The peeps on the phone, very professional, very efficient. I quickly get an appointment secured with a two hour window.... Very nice in this age of 8 hour window.... The technician comes in the middle of my two hour window. Intro's take place and we get straight to it. He looks at my garage door, and is shocked that we've been able to use it for so long. He tells me what we need and he starts to talk price. Honestly the prices we've heard before were much higher than LGD's so I opted for the higher grade parts since we're in this home for the long haul. The tech and I agree on a date and time. He comes back at the appointed time and gets straight to work. Not wanting to get in his way, I give him space. About an hour later he rings me that he's finished. I come out to find my garage door good as new. With the premium parts it's whisper quiet and runs dolphin smooth... As mentioned before, this org is professional, polite, respectful and GOOD at what they do. I was easily able to schedule the appointment and have Jon Paul come out to do the install in a single day. He replaced the garage door, rails and installed a wall mounted opener! Their text messaging system was great in confirming the appointment also letting me know when the tech would arrive. The install went well and everything works perfect! There was a minor imperfection with the garage door seal at the bottom that I noticed a few days later. Everyone else wanted to set an appointment just to give me a price on programming remotes. Auggie was the tech who came and he programmed the remotes and explained how to do it in the future. Someone attempted to break into my house last week. I'm a single, 74-year-old woman who has a disability,and thus, is, a target. So, today, around 4 PM , when my garage door's automatic entry became in~op, I knew that I had to take immediate action. I've been using 'Alert Door' for years, and although I love their work, they couldn't get to me this evening. So it was a shot in the dark when I went to Yelp. I called another company before I called Alert, but they couldn't get to me tonight. Lucky for me, as my experience with Alert turned out to be one of the most pleasant experiences that I've had with a company in quite some time. As I was a flight attendant for many years, I consider myself a worthy arbiter of excellent, customer service. Well, as it turned out, Joel turned out to be a cut above most of the servicemen that I've ever dealt with. He was friendly, professional, and a true 'Craftsman_' a young man who took great care and pride in his work. As I always like to discover how things work, it wasn't an issue for him that we hung out while he was working. We even shared stories of our lives, and had a few good laughs. So, I would like his boss/manager to know, that he is a credit to your employ. When people said that they were going to send the airline a letter of commendation to, I always quipped that they should tell them to give me a pay raise. I had received an estimate on Yelp for a garage door spring replacement from another company, only for that technician to arrive and say that they could not honor the price. Turns out that company was just a parts distributor and forwards my info to many local contractors. After that horrible experience, I was greatly relieved to see a Local Garage Door tech arrive in a company car and uniform. The technician was very friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. He explained that they were expanding to San Mateo from Sacramento, which is why the San Mateo location had very few reviews, even though the Sacramento location had a great reputation. The one feedback I'd give is that the company should not advertise the more expensive spring as having a lifetime warranty when it's actually a 7 year warranty. Though legally, "lifetime warranty" may not refer to the lifetime of the purchaser, if it's a common enough misconception, then the company should be more upfront about it to avoid unhappy surprises. read more

Found them through a local mailer magazine. Their representative came out the same day to give an estimate for replacement of door or just repairing the parts that were damaged. Ended up replacing the door and also getting a new motor. The whole process was extremely quick and easy. Took less than a week. Cross shopped them with a few other companies including Costco contractors and they were the most reasonably priced. Ancient solid wood warped garage door wouldn't open this morning.. Yikes! Called Local Garage Doors. I am so impressed by the responsiveness and wonderful customer service I experienced with Local Garage Doors! I posted a request for a quote via Yelp on Sunday, they responded almost immediately, and were able to send a repair tech, Roy Holmes III, out the next day. Roy came prepared to replace the one missing roller on my garage door (experience with other types of repair companies is they only assess, give a quote and then schedule another appointment to repair), but also had the parts to replace all of them within 15 minutes! Note: we discussed that my door (over 20 years old and had never been serviced) was fine with the one replacement but also that it would cost more in the long run if I kept having to pay a service call any time another roller came off. He also took the time to discuss the in's and out's with replacing different elements of the door.
