This is such a cute place. The murals and decor inside fits very well. The server we had was incredibly polite and welcoming. We went for dinner on a Friday and it was VERY loud inside. There's nothing to really absorb sound and it's hard to hear the person sitting across from you. Not for the food. Nachos are a 10 with the carnitas. Highly recommended. My husband and I both got street Tacos with all 3 meats to try. Carnitas is still the best, then Pollo asado, then carne asada. The steak was a little disappointing, on its own tasted great but in the taco it lost a lot of flavor. They also have 3 different house hot sauces to choose from. 2 aren't really that spicy one is very smokey and the third is a habanero base. All very tasty. Would come back but maybe for lunch when it's less busy to avoid the loud environment. read more

Unimpressive. $13 for chips and salsa that was not very good, not as good as the free chips down the street or at pretty much any other Mexican restaurant. Service was ok but the waitress seemed like we were inconvenience to her. She argues when I ordered the same drink twice but one time it was red, 2nd time it was green. Drinks were in fairly small solo type cups packed with ice and at $17 for a watermelon margarita there were maybe 4 decent sized sips. I should have poured out the liquid in an empty cup just to see how little there was. Food was meh at best. No sides provided and the grilled fish was kind of spongy. Very overpriced read more

I've never had a restaurant make me feel so invisible. My son-in-law and I ordered at the same time. His food arrived, and I watched him eat while I waited for my fish tacos (not a complex order). We asked the waitress twice to bring out my lunch, and she claimed that it was coming. Minutes turned into much longer, and it eventually became obvious that my order had simply been forgotten. My son-in-law finished his meal as I sat. When I finally asked the waitress what happened, she offered no explanation. I requested the check and asked that my missing tacos be removed the from the bill. No apology. No explanation. No effort to make it right. Not even a simple, "I'm sorry--we dropped the ball." Every restaurant makes mistakes. What speaks volumes is how they treat customers after those mistakes. This restaurant showed zero accountability and even less concern. A little ownership and a genuine apology would have cost nothing. I won't be back and neither will our friends and family in the area. read more

Good tacos and Margaritas. The bartender forgot our Mexican street corn and salsa. He took the street corn off the tab after asking if we got it but not the salsa. I noticed that I was charged for the salsa which we did not get when I left. Maybe if the bartender was not playing with his cellphone for our entire lunch he would have paid more attention to his customers and work. My best business advice is for the mgt to to not allow employees to use their cellphones while working to avoid being distracted. read more

Finally had a chance to stop in and we were So happy we did. Great vibe, awesome employees and the cocktails and food are great. It's a small place with a very friendly crowd. The margaritas were so tasty (I had a few of the spiced mango). The beers were nice and cold. We enjoyed the chips and salsa and also ordered the queso (cheese) dip. My friend got the chicken wings of all things and he really enjoyed them. I enjoyed the carnitas street tacos with rice and beans. So delicious. Whether it's worth a 1,000 words or 10, it is amazing what a photo can do. All it took was that photo of the salsa with summer tomatoes that 'G N.' posted on on Aug 21, 2021 and I knew I would have to try it for myself. Of course, I examined the menu beforehand, and decided I would order: - A side of pico (from showing the server the aforementioned photo) - Chips and queso (because Ariana L. said it's "UNREAL") - Crispy Carne Asada Tacos (because they just sounded good) As much as I wanted to becoming a raving superfan, the experience was a flop. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but at the same time very unremarkable. Pretty much just "aiight". First, the pico: it wasn't the heaven I assumed it would be from the photo (and seemed perhaps like a slightly different product). First, the salt seemed inconsistent, as if it were sprinkled by hand on top. Second, also working against it is the lack of acid (lime). I also would have liked a little more onion, but this is more a personal preference. As far as the queso goes, I am pleased to report that Ariana L did not let me (us?) down! I thought it had great flavors, spice, and an approachable heat. It was creamy, savory, and not overly gooey. While I would not describe it as "unreal" it was done very well. The chips were pretty standard. They seemed house-made, and seemed to suffer from the same salt issue as the pico - what appeared to be a too-light and inconsistent spinkling. As an FYI - these are not included and get charged extra ($1.50). The tacos were a crisp, griddled tortilla inside a soft tortilla. I will give them credit for the tacos being stuffed with ingredients, as well as the creativity of how crispness is achieved. These were filled with meat (carnitas), pico, guacamole, beans, and cheese. Alas, they didn't really do it for me either. The carne asada was fairly tender and had some light flavor, but wasn't out of this world. The pico was the same stuff I had earlier in the meal, guacamole was nothing to write home about, and the cheese was in a too-small amount for my taste. Not terrible but also not something I would necessarily want to order again. The service here was polite and speedy, and the vibe inside is simple, bright, and inviting. At this point, all of this would equal three stars, however, Where it comes to value, Locales is definitely on the expensive side for what you get. The two tacos (albeit loaded) came out to $18. I may be willing to forgive $10 for queso, but not having chips be included in that cost feels downright deceitful (it's not about the buck-fifty, it is a matter of principle). Now, as someone who's spent $30 on a single plate of sushi, it's not just the cost. An expensive meal can be worth it if the quality is top-notch. I'm sorry to say I do not believe this was the case here. read more

My husband said the tacos were delicious but unremarkable. & the tortilla itself for my quesadilla was lovely. I ordered a quesadilla suiza which came out looking like a baby burrito... I could've had another one and been satisfied with the price. Also somehow only one side had cheese, took one bite than the attached picture. S M A L L The apple empinadas were okay; flavor for the filling was great but was overwhelmed by the oil used to fry it. I'm not sure if they were the wrong temp to enter the oil or if they stayed in too long but it was overly oily to the point that it made me nauseous & my son said: "no thank you" after a bite. Rough... drinks strong but no real flavor and the margaritas are served in water glasses without garnish or a rim? Food is clearly not homemade or fresh. Queso was definitely canned Velveeta with very oily chips. The taco bowl had a thick base of watery tomatoes and mushed bean paste that was so unappetizing. Guac didn't look or taste homemade. Chicken had that microwaved taste/texture. All canned/packaged and nothing tasted fresh like how good Mexican food should taste. Such a bummer because it's an adorable place and we've been on the hunt for good Mexican! read more

Great date spot! Big bar area in a small cute building - clearly the focus is more on the tequila than the tacos! Probably 15 small tables in the dining portion - service was prompt and pleasant (though there did appear to be a bit of a wait for a table if you got there when the dining room filled up). We ordered the grilled fish tacos, some nachos, some wings, and drinks. In all, the food was tasty and well prepared. Drinks were over-expensive, but that's their big money maker, I suppose, so I shouldn't be surprised. I certainly wouldn't call this authentic Latin food, but it WAS good, so it didn't really matter. Food is generous portions and fantastic. I had the Cadillac Margarita (my goto) and not good. But they do have Trillium on draft. Service is fantastic and well managed. Amazing, cozy and intimate restaurant in Hingham that we went to after work one night. They have a tremendous selection of Tequila and Mezcal so of course I had to try a Mezcal flight. Adam, our bartender was super knowledgeable and helpful so much so that I honestly could've stayed there all night long. We did order the chips and salsa which were good and you can tell everything is fresh and/or homemade. I want to go back with my girl gang and show them how much fun this place is. It is small so probably best for smaller groups too. And it can get noisy but when your having fun who would care. A place I highly recommend checking out for sure! read more

Let's start with the positives. It is walking distance to where we live. Guacamole is decent Fist dozen times coming here I would get the street tacos I tried every different kind of meat taco and I ultimately stopped getting them because they are ALL very dry and not that good. I would end up outing guacamole all over them and then making quite the mess. Then I tried the meat tacos which were a BIT better at least they weren't as dry but still weren't good enough to come back and try again. After my taco experiment I tried the southwest salad which is JUST OKAY. They never give you enough dressing so I always have to ask for a side of dressing which comes in the worlds smallest ramekin so it's really not even a helpful add but never the less I ask for it. The churros I was so excited about but there just not worth the calories I've decided... they are the smallest most pathetic churros I have ever tasted and they taste like cardboard. The staff is just okay. They usually aren't the friendliest but I also had a couple experiences where they were too friendly and I felt like a therapist and had to make an excuse leave even after the bartender started pouring me free wine!! (I will interject here that said bartender is no longer working there) but it took me a good six months before I went back in after that night. The ambiance is okay. The restaurant is intimate and the tables are close tg. There is an outside area that has no shade so we never sit outside even tho we normally love sitting outside especially in the spring and fall but who likes sitting in direct sunlight? Not me! The hours are inconsistent and whatever it says online may or may not be accurate. We went in on a Saturday night at 9pm one night and they told us they were closed but other weekend nights they stay open until 1am it totally depends on who is working. Sadly, As far as Mexican restaurants go this is perhaps my all time least favorite. read more

I have been excited to try this place since it opened a few months ago. We finally made the time to do so earlier this week when we came for a late lunch. The restaurant is in a small-ish space that over the years has been home to at least two other restaurants that I can think of. I was excited when I heard that a more authentic Baja style Mexican food place was opening in our town. This is a very welcome addition to the area and I wish the owners the best of luck. While the interior is on the smaller side, they have done a really nice job designing the space. At the front when you walk in is a long bar with typical stool seating and adjacent to that is the dining area. The dining area is painted a warm white color with light wood, contemporary style tables. The decor is pretty and light and not "Mexican restaurant kitschy". There is a full bar menu and this place is known for it's tequila choices. I do love tequila but am currently alcohol-free so I didn't have any cocktails...although the margarita the woman across the room from me was drinking looked quite inviting. They also carry Mexican Coke which I was happy to see. I don't drink it but any move away from selling beverages that have high-fructose corn syrup is a plus to me. My husband and I stuck with water which they bring out in a repurposed label-free tequila bottle which was a cute idea. Basically you are coming here for their tacos so if you are expecting a full Mexican food experience, this is not the place. For me, tacos (when done well) are one of my absolute favorite foods. I could eat them several times a week if left to my own devices. And when there is a fish taco on the menu, it is hard for me to resist. I had a choice of fried or grilled fish tacos...I went with the grilled. Oh my, out came two of the most delicious fish tacos I have ever had. The fish was grilled to perfection and two tacos were plenty of food...they were filled to the brim. My husband ordered the carnitas tacos and also thought those were exceptional. You can get your tacos soft as we did or crispy. You can also get veggie tacos or beef tacos. We ordered a basket of chips and pico de gallo. The chips seemed to be house made. They were warm and tasted fresh, delicious and crisp. Our lovely server (Kerry??) brought us more when she saw the basket getting low. She was extremely attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and very nice. In the warmer weather there is seating outside. If you are adverse during this time of Covid to eating inside a restaurant, you can order food to take away with you. If you are not adverse to eating inside a restaurant be forewarned that it is a smaller place so like us, you might want to avoid any potential crowds and come either for a late lunch or an early dinner. Either way, if you are a fan of tacos and good tequila this may just be your place. I can't wait to return and try some other kinds of tacos. read more

First visit, about 1pm on a weekday, restaurant not busy. Decor and cleanliness are good, 5 stars. Went in during downtime, only one other table occupied and one person at the bar. Seated quickly by our server who was very attentive throughout our meal. The service and his personality were not lacking and I give him 5 stars. Small detail appreciated by myself was our club sodas were served in a real glass. 5 stars. The Food. We ordered chips and salsa and the wings app to start. The wings arrived 6 per order. They were meaty and the flavor was good. If you like your wings on the crispy side you may want to specify to your server, as ours could have been a tad crispier. 4 stars. The chips and salsa were not my favorite. The chips were a bit too thick. The salsa selection tasted ok, not my favorite. There were 3 types offered and I didn't care for any of them. 2 stars. We had the Carnitas tacos and the Baja Fish tacos. Both came with 2 tacos and both portions were ample. 4 stars. The Carnitas tacos had a good portion of meat, but overall the taco was dry. 2 stars. The Baja taco has large portions of fish and slaw and the flavor was good but the breading on the fish was thick. 3 stars. My overall impression of Locales is that there is a lot of thought and passion behind the decor but the culinary elements need closer attention. This place is perfect. It's always bumping, the tight, straight-forward menu delivers exactly what the name of the spot promises, and the servers operate on all cylinders. (Props to Francesca who was exceptional during our last visit!) The Crispy Taco throws it back to Nick's Crispy of San Francisco, which basically birthed the concept of the double decker that Taco Bell destroyed. Anyhoodles, it's terrific, as are the Baja fish tacos and the guac and the house margs and the everything. It's Hingham, so expect dinner for two to hit the $100 mark. But it's fun, and the food is righteous, and again, it's Hingham. read more

Loved this place and can't believe we didn't try it sooner. Guac and chips were awesome and size was ample for the four of us (adults) to share. I got two grilled fish tacos, also fantastic. Hub got one chicken and one steak taco and reported they were also top notch. My (Cadillac) margarita was perfect. The service was excellent, everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the server was friendly and efficient. Re: pricing complaints I see in other reviews. We got out of there for about $60 pre-tip for two people, including two margaritas, and we were happy and full. I feel ripped off when I pay too much for bad food that I could make better myself. This food is awesome and I have no idea what kinda magic sauce was on my fish tacos, but they were great. Are tacos a buck or two cheaper at some other places? Sure. But I'm also sure there are folks in the Locales kitchen making this taco magic happen that need to be paid, plus all manner of other overhead. I'm fine to pay the extra buck or two when the food and service are excellent. We will be back! read more

Blasting music in the kitchen that could be heard in the dining room and the floor person could care less when asked to turn it down. They did for about 15 minutes with attitude. Bathrooms were filthy. Watched staff wash hands in the kitchen without soap only water. Food was simply Meh at best. Portions left you hungry but really who wanted more..... never again. read more

Drinks are great, very unique. Food was really good too, but perhaps a touch too much guacamole in the quesadilla's. However the chips and guacamole would be highly recommended! Friendly service! However, a bit pricey for what it is IMO. My biggest tip for the owners would be to pull down the shades so you can't see the Walgreens strip mall across the street and it would be much better atmosphere! The mural when you are sitting by the window facing the other direction is much nicer! It's like a grown up version of Chipotle... quick fast Mexican food with some good drinks! read more

Excellent service - super attentive and friendly staff. My waitress was Julie and she was just delightful. She brought me everything I needed before I realized I needed it. Their homemade habanero sauce is next level. Their tacos are as good as tacos I've had off street carts in LA - so authentic. Perfectly made tortillas. Their chips are cooked and salted to the right texture and bite. Oh my god this place is GOOD. Don't even get me started on their queso- I would do 13 hours of manual back breaking labor for a whole bucket of it. Wow mess me up, queso. Love it. And the southwest salad is delectable, fresh, a joy for the senses. The hostess told us 30 minutes for a table and we waited exactly that. We just moved to Hingham and this is definitely our new fave Mexican. We are sold. Locales, you ROCK. Keep doing what you're doing. read more

The tacos are to die for, The Elote is amazing, the beer list is exceptional mostly because they have Negra Modelo and it's my fav, the margaritas are great. There's really not a thing wrong with this place. It's not high-end but it's high-quality. And that's some thing I appreciate. The service is always friendly and people are always smiling there's no posturing. And I appreciate that. I can be made happy. If you just pour cilantro and onions all over me I am happier than a pig in you know what. OK. I can be nice and joyful. And what does it is tacos, my man and a good Mexican beer. We show up at around 7PM, 2 of us. There appears to be outdoors seating, it's a nice warm night, why not? There are four 14-yr-old girls at the hostess station. When we inquire, they say "It's just for take-out". OK...the restaurant is half full, plenty of empty tables. We ask, can we get that high-top over there? They reply "It needs to be cleared" as if it's some sort of insurmountable barrier. They do not offer another table or any alternative. We just stand there and wait. 5 minutes elapses. The five 14-yr-olds watch TikTok and ignore us. We ask again if there is a possibility of a table. One of them offers to ask (ask? who? the other three 14-yr-olds?) and we stand waiting for several minutes until the humiliation is just too much and we bail. Don't recommend. read more

Our dining experience was not very good during our last visit. Waiter forgot to put one of our party's dinner items in and by the time it was to come out, the rest of the party had finished their meals. We ended up leaving and not getting that entree. Quesadillas ordered were sub par at best. When mentioned to a manager about our dining experience, her apology wasn't very sincere. Don't think we will be back. read more
