Whether it's worth a 1,000 words or 10, it is amazing what a photo can do. All it took was that photo of the salsa with summer tomatoes that 'G N.' posted on on Aug 21, 2021 and I knew I would have to try it for myself. Of course, I examined the menu beforehand, and decided I would order: - A side of pico (from showing the server the aforementioned photo) - Chips and queso (because Ariana L. said it's "UNREAL") - Crispy Carne Asada Tacos (because they just sounded good) As much as I wanted to becoming a raving superfan, the experience was a flop. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but at the same time very unremarkable. Pretty much just "aiight". First, the pico: it wasn't the heaven I assumed it would be from the photo (and seemed perhaps like a slightly different product). First, the salt seemed inconsistent, as if it were sprinkled by hand on top. Second, also working against it is the lack of acid (lime). I also would have liked a little more onion, but this is more a personal preference. As far as the queso goes, I am pleased to report that Ariana L did not let me (us?) down! I thought it had great flavors, spice, and an approachable heat. It was creamy, savory, and not overly gooey. While I would not describe it as "unreal" it was done very well. The chips were pretty standard. They seemed house-made, and seemed to suffer from the same salt issue as the pico - what appeared to be a too-light and inconsistent spinkling. As an FYI - these are not included and get charged extra ($1.50). The tacos were a crisp, griddled tortilla inside a soft tortilla. I will give them credit for the tacos being stuffed with ingredients, as well as the creativity of how crispness is achieved. These were filled with meat (carnitas), pico, guacamole, beans, and cheese. Alas, they didn't really do it for me either. The carne asada was fairly tender and had some light flavor, but wasn't out of this world. The pico was the same stuff I had earlier in the meal, guacamole was nothing to write home about, and the cheese was in a too-small amount for my taste. Not terrible but also not something I would necessarily want to order again. The service here was polite and speedy, and the vibe inside is simple, bright, and inviting. At this point, all of this would equal three stars, however, Where it comes to value, Locales is definitely on the expensive side for what you get. The two tacos (albeit loaded) came out to $18. I may be willing to forgive $10 for queso, but not having chips be included in that cost feels downright deceitful (it's not about the buck-fifty, it is a matter of principle). Now, as someone who's spent $30 on a single plate of sushi, it's not just the cost. An expensive meal can be worth it if the quality is top-notch. I'm sorry to say I do not believe this was the case here.

The vibe this place has is absolutely fantastic, whoever did the decor is talented! Smaller interior, big flavor... small servings. Left hungry :( I think for snacks and drinks this place is great but actual food ngl, not so much. Willing to try again though Came in as a family of four, not offered a high chair but we brought our own! The heartiest thing was the hot dog my son ordered. My husband said the tacos were delicious but unremarkable. & the tortilla itself for my quesadilla was lovely. I ordered a quesadilla suiza which came out looking like a baby burrito... I could've had another one and been satisfied with the price. Also somehow only one side had cheese, took one bite than the attached picture. S M A L L The apple empinadas were okay; flavor for the filling was great but was overwhelmed by the oil used to fry it. I'm not sure if they were the wrong temp to enter the oil or if they stayed in too long but it was overly oily to the point that it made me nauseous & my son said: "no thank you" after a bite. So for more than $50 I left nauseous, hungry , but not too upset so that really should drive home the vibe. Strange.

Food is generous portions and fantastic. I had the Cadillac Margarita (my goto) and not good. But they do have Trillium on draft. Service is fantastic and well managed. Ambiance can get a bit loud but is a good time vibe. Only bummer was my margarita but did I mention they have Trillium and it's on draft!

Great food, great drinks, great vibe. The grilled fish tacos were off the charts. We're going back to try the rest of the menu.

Portion size was good - loved the Birria Crunchwrap! Tacos were great - the single Birria taco was a little underwhelming in comparison to the others. But besides that really good! Just wouldn't order that singular Birria taco again. Drinks were also really good - tons or options besides tequila based products which I loved!!!

I would agree with previous reviewers that chips ate really good but that's where my compliments end. Nachos had tons of crema but not a lot of melted cheese along with some pieces of hard and tasteless hard beans and pico in some places. I went with one of the specials - butternut squash and black beans quesadilla. I asked for the sauce on the side. When it arrived, it looked like 4 pieces of thin tortillas so I opened to see what was inside and it had very little inside. The butternut squash was drowned in oil and the beans were again hard and tasteless. There wasn't a lot of cheese or any other fillings you would expect from a quesadillas. Service was good and our server checked with us and refilled our drinks. Place has a bar area that was somewhat empty for a Friday night and they had a game playing on the big screen tv. Bathroom seemed somewhat messy.

It didn't used to be this way but the past four or five months the shopping experience here has been steadily declining. Today at noon'ish, the hot foods counter was bare. Absolutely nothing in the trays. The cold foods were full but- tired looking. I no longer get anything from the prepared foods anyway, as I was on the losing end of an interrogation about potato salad last month (. . . and exactly why is it orange?) that was never going to provide an answer from the uninformed employee. Today, I did get prepared chicken salad this trip as it's delicious when it's made to their original recipe (rotisserie chicken, mayo, celery) but not so much when the chef skips the mayo. And celery. It looks like it has everything in it this time, so I'm hoping. Today in Produce, I did find two tomatoes on the vine. Not the delicious, locally-grown ones I found in here last week, but beggars can't be choosers, so I grabbed the last ones. Last week it was scallions. No scallions- why? That day, the helpful employee didn't deny it was odd, he just shrugged and said, "Maybe in a couple of days?". I could maybe excuse the empty shelves and the clueless employees except for the cashiers who know better than the customer. Today was the third visit I asked the employee conducting a painfully slow checkout process not to squash everything in my order into only one of my shopping bags but . . . nah, he knew best. so all went in one bag. Then he backed the cart out of his way into the line of people waiting patiently behind me, (insted of pulling it forward) saying, "You want your cart?" Why do I want that cart? I'm happy to put it back in the cart line without you running some poor woman's foot over with it, but sure, I'll drag the cart around the counter and through the line because I'm standing at the end of the counter emptying half of what's in one of my bags and filling the second bag with it anyways, so . . . I started shopping at TFM for the quality, the variety of unusual items and the pleasant employees who were helpful, doing a job, and trying to do it well. No clue what's happening, but I can't annoy myself here any more. But now I have to find Malted Milk Balls somewhere that even come close to TFM ones, and that's not gonna happen anytime soon!
