The tomato basil soup was not good. It was luke warm and thick like it was tomato paste with some white stuff added, not sure what the white stuff was but it wasn't good. When we arrived they said it would be about 5 minutes so we were waiting, a young man decided to seat us but we needed a lower table. When he took us to the lower table the waitress was annoyed and said she told us it would be 5 minutes. We didn't rush the young man at all. When we sat down the waitress brought two waters to the table and asked if we would like anything else to drink. We said yes and told her two were in the bathroom. She snapped at me "I only have two hands!" Rude. She took our order and got a bit nicer but wasn't great the whole time. The soup was awful. The pizza was fine but not great. read more

The Detroit pizza!! I came here specifically to try this as I heard good things... I ordered the small (4 square) sausage & mushroom Detroit pizza. It was thick, rich/filling and delicious! It tasted exactly like a Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza from the 90's and I mean that in the best way possible as they don't make food like this anymore! It tasted almost nostalgic, even though I've never had it before. The whole "sauce on top" deal that this pizza style is all about didn't make a difference to me. It still has that classic pizza taste/flavor regardless of where the sauce is placed. This small size could easily be split between two people. I would definitely come back here to get this pizza again :) read more

Ordered takeout and we got the true burger and Nashville chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich had great flavor, a nice spice but also not too spicy because of the avocado mash. The burger was nice and juicy but could have been seasoned or had a little more flavor. French fries and Greek salad for sides were really good! read more

Well, I really want to love this place! But here is the thing - I've been here a few times and the service has not been that friendly and as a vegan/ vegetarian, there is no plant-based protein at all - this is an a very easy fix ... and I hoping that a veggie burger or tofu gets added to the menu. Another thing is that it can get quite loud when busy. Again, though, I'm still rooting for this place and would love to be pleasantly surprised if there is a next time. read more

We went for father's day. The service was great and the food was amazing. We got the calamari, steak, burger, pasta and fish n chips. The calamari was crispy, flavorful and yummy. It came with a spicy mayo dip. The burger was Juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. The fries were super crispy and tasty. Pasta was okay. It had a Mexican spin on it. The fish was super flaky. I got an extra order of chips to go Very good I had a Haddock fish sandwich, which was so thick I could barely get it into my mouth. My sister got home 4 slice pizza it was loaded with toppings. It looked delicious, but I didn't try it, because I was too into the creamy thick onion dip. No dessert too full and I took half of my sandwich home. It was even good the next day cold. Definitely hit the spot for a Wednesday date night. Came specifically for the Detroit style pizza and I was a fan. Brought a couple of slices home to my dad, and he didn't feel the same way. I liked it. Nice and cheesy, and a good helping of sauce to top it all off. To set your expectations: its on the thicker side, a bit chewy, and very satisfying. The restaurant itself is very much a place you could congregate in and watch a football game. It does have a bar. There's a towny vibe here. Service was well done, our waitress asked my girlfriend and I how our food was after it came out and was generally attentive to our needs. You can't expect a gourmet experience. Waitress was very friendly and responsive. The food was good except for one meal. The nachos were great with the fried chicken. All sandwiches and burgers were huge portions and great tasting. The pasta however, was barely warm and not cacio e pepe. Please do not call it that, there was not a spec of pepper in it and it tasted like watered down cream sauce (there is no cream in cacio e pepe). Also needed salt to have any flavor. Spent a nice Friday night date trying out True North Kitchen in Weymouth and overall it was a good experience the waitress Ashley was amazing! She was down to earth and overall really helpful! I started with the strip steak and it was good and cooked correctly! No real flavor profile but a decent cut of steak with some mashed potatoes and asparagus. We ended the night with the lava cake honestly I wouldn't recommend it to others. It had a very fake cake taste and was just drenched in chocolate. Fish and chips: fish was large flakey pieces with a light crisp batter. Fish tastes almost buttery and melts in your mouth. Coleslaw and tartar sauce are both clearly house made. Both delicious and balanced. Build your own bowl: I had a medley of toppings. The caramelized onions were flavorful. The pickled onions added a great crunch. The quinoa and bulgar was mixed with a bunch of herbes the ones I could taste were mint and chives but the over all effect was very pleasing. Marinated feta chunks were big almost fluffy and tasted amazing. Seemed like they put a whole half an avocado in. They don't skimp on any one topping. Key lime pie is a kick of key lime flavor. Personally I like a thick key lime pie, this one is super light and airy also the crust is a bit grainy. Over all not a fan of the texture but love the flavor! Not your ordinary pizza. But if you are a pizza maniac like me, give it a go! The dough is not heavy, much thicker than your Neapolitan, but light enough to taste the cheese and sauce. Also, they layer the mushroom under the cheese, which is spot on! Finally, Joe tops the pizza with the extra sauce making it that much better. Super gastro pub! We sat out back on the cute patio, had stuffed shrimp with sauce for an app. The stuffing & sauce were perfectly balanced for the jumbo shrimp. We also had the stuffed "lobstah"! Wife and I bagged a 4sq cheese pie as a starter for a date night and it was the highlight of our meal - sweet sauce sitting atop a cheese-laden focaccia style crust. Stumbled upon this restaurant while staying in Quincy, and only selected this kitchen/bar based on Yelp reviews. It was a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was 75% occupied, which is a pretty good sign. There was no host to greet us, and a patron was leaving and told us to seat ourselves. Gee, I felt like a local! I only saw a bartender and one server, and the restaurant was very busy, so I was a little worried that the service was going to be slow....waited 5 minutes and the server delivered the glasses of water and menu and proceeded to take our order without us looking at the menu! Oh well, luckily I looked at the menu on Yelp and we quickly ordered before she quickly left. She quickly delivered our cocktails and after 15 minutes, the food was delivered. We were so pleasantly surprised how delicious the entrees were! Caesar salad - $9- lightly dressed with giant focaccia croutons- nice starter. Lettuce wedge with a blue cheese dressing and bacon bits- $10- not bad. Short rib tacos - $12- with corn tortillas and red onion. The short ribs were tender and flavorful with a sweet barbecue sauce- a little salty but hearty. Chicken Parmesan- $19- probably the best entree here - served with a creamy cacio de Pepe linguine pasta. I would order this again..delicious and very filling. We split this order and it was still so much food. Fish and chips -$17- lightly battered cod and the chips were pretty good. I didn't try the coleslaw but the tartar sauce was yummy. The server Debby was efficient, I was so impressed that she could provide service to at least 12 tables..and the bartender was doing a great job since there were so many couples sitting at the bar. I'm so happy that I went with one of them because their fish sandwich was absolutely wonderful! We also had the potato chips and onion dip (homemade and awesome). My friend and I went here for brunch recently. The placed was packed and it took a while before we got seated. We ordered the spinach and artichoke arancini, true burger and brioche french toast to share. There were 6 arancini in the appetizer dish and came with shredded parmesan cheese, lemon wedge, and aioli. They were delicious. The true burger came with beef patty, cheddar cheese, potato sticks, two slices of bacon, red onions, pickles and lettuce. The bun was lightly grilled. There was a side of hand cut fries. The burger was good but not memorable. The french toast dish came with two slices of thick toast with berries, creme anglaise ,and whipped cream. The french toast was very soggy. We thought it would be crispy. It wasn't what we expected. Service was a bit slow due to the packed restaurant but the staff was friendly. MEHH EHHH. We were so excited to try this place based on all the other reviews from fellow yelpers. Being from the north shore, and spending a day in Duxbury, we steered to yelp to find a good local spot for dinner on our way home. I am giving this place three stars for a fair A-OK yelp score. Pros - SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF. Working in the industry we were impressed by the patio set up and friendly wait staff. Our waitress was an older woman and she really couldn't of been sweeter. Now for the cons. GAHHH Guys, I hate to be this person but we just weren't impressed by the food. Everything just fell short. Again, maybe this is because we were anticipating some out of this world bomb south shore local grub and it just fell so short. We started with the fried pickles. OKAY. Real greasy. But I'm down. Again A - OK. I tried the featured lobster roll with potato salad and coleslaw and my man got the Nashville chicken with fries. He passed on the dark meat thigh and swapped for a piece of chicken breast instead. They couldn't fry the chicken breast for some reason so he just got it grilled. OKAY so here we go, maybe I'm just a lobster snob but my lobster roll fell so short. Looked great but my first bite tasted real FISHY. Mmm, maybe just a bad bite. So I kept going and each bite just left a bad taste in my mouth. Some claws were mushy which made me feel like this wasn't fresh and previously frozen. The Mayo was HEAVY and bland. It just wasn't good. I ate half of it and I couldn't get that weird taste out of my mouth. Over all I was just disappointed. Potato salad was the best part of my meal. As far as my mans Nashville chicken sandwich, what a disappointment. Yes let me say he DID NOT order the thigh seeing as he passed on the dark meat, so we can't speak on the original way it's done. However, why order a sandwich if you have to use a fork and a knife to eat it?? Picked it up the whole thing fell apart. Blah. Soggy. The chicken was so huge coming out of the bread there is no way to even eat this as a sandwich. Bummer. Our waitress was super sweet like I mentioned before and there was a large party behind us as well as a full patio. SO maybe it was just kind of an off night. True North Kitchen & Bar is an Oasis It was time for me to try getting out again and I am so grateful I was led by a friend to True North Kitchen and Bar in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The ambience, food and service were beyond exceptional. In fact, I was given so much more than just food. True North Kitchen and Bar is easy to get to. It is right on 3A in Weymouth, south of the Fore River Bridge, where Kelly's Landy once was. But make no mistake! There is nothing left that resembles Kelly's Landing. The address is 159 Bridge Street (3A) and there is plenty of parking. The atmosphere was warm, friendly, casual and fun, both things desperately needed in these times of change. The owners, Joe and Janet Campbell, have clearly adapted to the new ways of being without being dragged down. Instead, they have embraced change and opened themselves to new and creative ways. That in and of itself is inspiring on many levels. I especially loved the little pamphlet where one scans a QR code for the menu. I mean, that should have happened long before Covid in my mind. The seating inside was clean and inviting, and the outdoor area was tented with generously spaced tables and warmed by plants, rugs and heaters, when needed. Janet, one of the owners, has placed cascades of her treasured vine geraniums to define the borders giving it color and soul. The wait staff is friendly, personable, and actually eager to please customers. The menu might seem small to some used to mini-books, but I'd rather a slight menu to one that overreaches into leftovers and old food thank you very much. Bigger and more is not always better. All of the food at True North Kitchen and Bar is made from scratch and it shows. Owners Janet and Joe Campbell bring oodles of experience. Joe was once the Vice President of Operations at Legal Seafoods for over five years and they were Managing Partners at Cohasset Harbor Restaurant (located at Atlantica) for over 15 years. Beyond their hospitality comes a sense of comfort knowing that the food served matters. It is hard to put into words, but we almost expected to learn something new from our conversations, or have good stuff imparted just be eating. It is so hard to feel authentically taken care of these days when embarking on little journeys in this new world.
