We were visiting the area this past weekend. This place has a great presence on social media. They post lots of great food and drink photos. It was enough to entice us for a quick lunch. For starters we chose the Trio Dip. It includes queso, salsa and guac. The chips are fresh and they do provide a nice big portion($12). I ordered 2 tacos that were filled with lots of protein. Came with my family to try this place out. My wife and I ordered margaritas each, they never brought them out to us. Ordered lemonade for our son, never came out. The kids ground beef tacos were too spicy for my kids. At first bite it isn't bad but as you chew the spices intensify. We ordered corn dog for my toddler and the meal was cold. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and the rice was hard and crunchy as though it was sitting out for a long time. I was upset because the weather is perfect today. They had the wall open. The ambience is awesome here. Great decor, no dinner rush, music was perfect. I was hoping we were going to discover a new local favorite. Locals Tacos and Tequila is still fairly new to West Springfield. There are things I do admire about this restaurant. The person in charge of lighting and decorating, job well done as you made this feel authentic. It certainly looks like a happening spot, but there are areas it can improve upon. The service here is either great, or your server is somewhere else. Most times it's the first, as the folks have been kind and professional. It is extremely clean which is a huge attribute. Parking is also plentiful. My main issue is the food. Definitely enjoy their margaritas or beers responsibly please. Having been to Central America and elsewhere, this isn't going to win authenticity awards. For the price I find the tacos, burritos, and enchiladas pedestrian by comparison. Am a white guy, but grew up with cooking from the regions mentioned, so might be more severe than most. The prices aren't horrible, and the presentation of the meals is attractive, but portions are small. Am going to try it one more time, as their outdoor seating is quite pleasant. read more

Came here for the first time. The layout is really nice. They have outdoor seating and the front window opens up to the restaurant which is pretty cool. The staff is very friendly. It was a weekday around 6pm so it was not so busy. Food came out fairly quick. We ordered the queso dip and about 5 tacos. The queso fondido was not bad. I would give it a 6/10. The tacos in my opinion were not that great. Tacos were kinda cold. But I must say the presentation was nice. Prices are somewhat high per taco if you ask me. About $6+ per taco. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant, especially with not some very good reviews. While deciding what to get for lunch, my parents suggested Local's for tacos. Which was honestly a little strange because they never suggest tacos. I went online and ordered pick up for 12 pm on a Saturday. Food was a little pricey, but everything sounded good. We put in a rather large order (I always get too much food). We did have to wait a while for the food, even though there seemed to be only one other person waiting for their food. The people packing up our food were super apologetic and gave us updates. When we got home, we dug in. The food was pretty good, better then we thought. The street corn was okay, the dip trio (salsa, guacamole, and queso) was amazing and a good price! The tacos were very tasty but I found them to have a LOT of sauce on them which kind of overwhelmed the flavors. My parents really enjoyed it too! The rice and beans were a little bland. They did a nice job of packaging everything up as well as the sauces. We would come back if we wanted something close by. read more

My friends and I decided to check out this place when we heard they had a good happy hour. Their website advertises that it's "home of taco Tuesday and 1/2 price margaritas every Tuesday" so we thought it would be worth trying. When we were seated we had to ask for a happy hour menu and I was a little disappointed that there were no food options and that the happy hour margaritas were limited to only lime and strawberry (priced at $8). It's a shame because they appear to have quite a variety of margaritas on their drink menu. Regardless, I ended up getting the lime margarita and the Taco Combo with an el Jefe and a Firecracker Taco. The el jefe could have used more queso, the firecracker taco was quite good, and the margarita was delicious. The service didn't seem as bad as some other reviews indicated, but that could be due to us getting in a bit before the dinner rush. However, I wish that their happy hour or Tuesday special was more readily advertised or explained by the staff. Once we got our receipts the margaritas ended up being priced at $6.25 (not the happy hour price of $8) which would have been half of the normal price of a lime margarita. But now I'm wandering if ALL their margaritas are half priced, and if so, I probably would have tried something more unique. read more

I have ordered the California fish taco every time I eat here. Usually take out. But since they added the "locals" to the name they have totally screwed up the order every time. Tilapia Not Mahi Mahi. Some crazy radish slaw and then none of the sauce they describe on the menu. I used to love these. Now with the cheap tilapia and none of the sauce that gave them flavor... this place has declined in quality and service to the point I am not going back. Horrible. read more

Come friends birthday party. We had 20 folks, so the poor server was slightly overwhelmed. She wisely only took a few orders at a time. The tequila drinks were excellent, mixed just right. You better like tacos because this place is primarily tacos. They are soft tacos which is not my favorite but the chicken & carne asada had nice flavor. Our waiter was not attentive, other staff delivered our starter to another table, never offered water or another round. When our dinner came no plates were given- we had use the small plates. We had the most horrible experience at this restaurant that I have had in a long time. We went Saturday night at 6:30 PM. The dining room was about a quarter full. We were told to sit wherever we wished and we sat at the high top in the middle of the restaurant. My four children and I were excited because this is one of our favorite restaurants to go to when we can. We have there many times over the past few years and I've never had a bad experience until Saturday, October 6. We order our drinks and waited to order our entrées. We were all starving and looking forward to a good meal. The waitress brought the drinks to us, but didn't take her entrée order for another 15 to 20 minutes. We had asked to order. This is where things got bad. Took our food better than 30 minutes to come to our table. The restaurant was not full and it was not busy after 30 minutes. Two of the five entrées arrived. I told the children go ahead and start eating before the food got cold. This is when we realized we didn't have any silverware. Had to ask three people to bring a silverware so we could actually eat. After another 10 to 15 minutes, I asked the waitress when we could get the rest of the food. Five minutes later the food appeared and the server hurried off. It was cold and dry. Nobody came to check in about the food or the service or anything at that point. We were all hungry so we ate what we had. When she finally came back to check on the order and how it was, I told her it was cold and requested refills for the kids drinks. I also ordered a beer at this time. Without seeing a word about the food being cold, she walked away. The kids drinks arrived a few moments later and she quickly rushed off. I never got the beer that I ordered , and no one came to check back about the complaint of the food. At about one and a half hours, I asked for the check and to go boxes so we can go home. Eventually check arrived. I paid the tab. Also, the music that was playing in the restaurant was inappropriate to say the least for a family restaurant. Every song was talking about sex and hooking up. My 10 and 12-year-old children both commented that the music was extremely inappropriate and they were bothered by it. I even said something to our server when we first sat down that we could not even hear her over the music. To say the least, I was extremely disappointed in this experience and will not frequent this restaurant again. We have been there before in the past and enjoyed the food in the atmosphere. This time it was over the top. I did leave a review and a message through their talkback line and have not heard a word from them. read more

If you want cheap tex-mex it's not a bad spot. Don't expect anything special. I'm guessing they cater more to a high school crowd or the blue plate special. Bottom line: food and drinks were good. Service, not so much. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. After chatting and deciding what we wanted to drink, for appetizers, and finally, our entrées we were ready to order, and time kept ticking by. No one approached us or said anything, so we started looking around. Finally, we talked to the host and were told the server was on her way. A young lady got up from the table where she was sitting with three other people and came over to take our drink order. After that she sat back down at a table with what appeared to be other employees where they proceeded to talk and high-five and scroll their phones where she remained while we finished what was a delicious meal, not that she would know because she never asked. A colleague and I came in here today for a late lunch, but we arrived a little bit after they finished their official lunch time. Nevertheless, our Server told us that the prices and the menu were the same which was cool. Luckily we missed the lunch rush, so finding an open table was easy. The place has wonderful ambiance, and it reminds me of my time in Mexico my second home! I went for two buffalo chicken tacos which consisted of fried chicken and hot sauce. I added a couple of sides that were included and they were brown rice and black beans to make the meal complete. My friend got the two barbeque tacos which consisted of pulled pork and great barbeque sauce I was told. She got the same sides that I did. It really took the kitchen staff no time at all to prepare our food, and we hardly even noticed the time that it took. Cannot recommend. High prices, poor service, and worse food. Showed up about noon to place a to-go order for two burritos. There were a couple tables taken. After 30 minutes of waiting, I was a bit annoyed. Without my prompting, who I assume was the manager came out to apologize and offer a $5 gift card. I appreciated the gesture until I got home and noticed the card wasn't a gift card but a coupon for $5 off a $20 or more order. And it expired in 3 weeks!! After a total of 40 minutes I received my burrito. When I got home and opened the plastic container, all I found was rice wrapped in a tortilla. Carne asada was nowhere to be found. Picture for proof. In the end, I waited 40 minutes for a $14 burrito filled with rice, disappointment, and regret. I would recommend this place as a happy hour. Margaritas are good. The appetizers are great. I enjoy the salsa. Be careful if you have any food allergies. I cannot be certain but I think I had a shellfish reaction while there. I didn't inform the wait staff of my allergy. So, that is on me. Is it TacoBama? No. Is it comparable? No. It also isn't Taco Bell in a good way. So, if you want somewhere close, this is your place. I haven't ordered carry out but I hear it's good. I think they might be a little short staffed. Food is always good. We eat here about once a month. Recommend the Chesapeake Taco - yum! Service is better than most but as everywhere not as good as pre-pandemic. Reason for 4 stars is the menu advertised prices and what we are charged is always off by 1-2 dollars. Our first time to Tacos and Tequila and we were not disappointed. The chips and salsa were tasty. The tortillas were crispy, lite and gently salted. The salsa had great flavor too! I ordered the carne asada burrito which was delicious, but filling. I substituted the creama for a hot and spicy orange sauce. I only made it through 2/3ds and brought the rest home. My wife ordered the tacos; one baja and one barbacoa. She normally wouldn't 'finish both, but she did tonight! The tacos were that good! The bartender, Shauna, was a terrific conversationalist and told us all about the standup and opening of the restaurant. Great food, fair prices and a friendly staff.
