Yet, Kanji Sushi in Springfield remains one I've been to more than 3 times in the 8 or so months I've been living in this area. At $30 per person, it's a pretty fair price considering it includes sushi, apps, and hibachi!!!! I love the Shrimp hibachi and the shumai dumplings. But my favorite sushi roll? It's gotta be the Snow Mountain Roll (pictured below$ without a doubt!!! It's got shrimp tempura and shredded crabstick -- two of my fav proteins in sushi!!! The inside is nice and there's a conveyor belt that's included in the AYCE. But if you go anytime after 5pm be prepared for a long wait time. This place is great and very popular. read more

This is hands down one of the best AYCE-sushi spots in the NATION! Seriously... no cap. This review a bit overdue, but it is impossible for me to not give Kanji Sushi and Hibachi its flowers after my experience there. I was in town for a business trip, along with a couple of coworkers in the last week of November 2025. After flying into town on a Sunday and checking into our hotel down the road, we were looking forward to dinner. One of the coworkers recommended Kanji as he previously lived in and was familiar with the area. We arrived at the venue around 6pm and were seated promptly. It was fairly open when we arrived, with a good rotation of patrons in and out, however it picked up quite a bit after we were seated. As briefed to us by our server (the service was great by the way), the kaiten-zushi (sushi conveyor belt) items were intended to be super light-eats. So in that regard, it is a bit underwhelming when compared to other similar concept places such as Kura. However, the money train (no pun intended) were the actual shuttles that ran along the top rails over the communal belt. There is a great selection of appetizer, sushi, rolls, and hibachi items for the AYCE menu. Compared to other AYCE venues, you will have to order your items each time the server comes around as opposed to ordering electronically from a table kiosk. Save a few items here and there, we tried almost every item on the menu and they were all spectacular. Great standard rolls with quality and flavor - all the rolls that I've had here were probably the best rolls I've had in a while. The hibachi meats were tender and on point. THEY HAVE TAKOYAKI!!! Usually when going to AYCE-sushi restaurants, the bar and expectations are set pretty low when it comes to the quality of the food due to the amount of food that needs to be churned out at speed. This is not the case with Kanji - the chefs definitely know how to create the perfect balance of speed and quality. All of which is delivered directly to your tables on the shuttles with a great turn around time after your order is submitted. If you want sashimi (the fish without the rice), there is an additional surcharge, however there is a one-time sashimi "sampler" plate that is included with your AYCE pricing. Even with the base pricing, you will get a thorough experience. Hands down recommend Kanji Sushi and Hibachi for all those in town and those visiting! I will 100% be returning to Kanji the next time I am in Springfield. You CANNOT go wrong with Kanji! read more

The cost is five dollars higher than sushi ohayo but I like the atmosphere and booths better at Kanji. The service was good. 3.5 stars This is another spot that's a bit hard for me to rate. We went on a Wednesday night and were seated right away. The rolls we ordered were delicious, and were very flavorful. The incredible roll for example had giant cuts of fish in it, so they were definitely generous with their fish portions. The fish itself tasted pretty fresh. I really liked the hibachi shrimp as well. The teriyaki chicken didn't look the most appetizing but tasted pretty good. The conveyor belt didn't really have too many interesting items. I was craving sushi and decided to stop for lunch since I was in the area, and I'm so glad I did. This restaurant's concept is such a cool idea--I sat at the "sushi bar," where dishes came out on a rotating belt, and I absolutely loved it. I got out of the city for a bit to try a different conveyor belt sushi. Kanji is located in West Springfield and is a bit away from the normal part of Springfield i go to (near container store and the original trader joes) the wait was non existent on a Saturday night which was great. the restaurant is huge compared to anything in DC. the staff immediately comes to greet and get any orders. As an AYCE they have a near limitless menu. they do not serve half rolls, and you can get shashimi only (no rice) for an up charge. I think it's worth the get away from the city! read more

We love the concept of an AYCE Korean hibachi and sushi eateriy, so we paid a visit to Kanji yesterday. It was pretty good. But if I am going to pick between Kanji and Sushi Ohayo down in Lorton, I pick Sushi Ohayo. Kanji is a spacious and attractive restaurant situated in the strip mall at the corner of Old Keene Mill Road and construction torn-up Rolling Road. Entering Kanji, there were like five staffers at the front desk and we weren't sure whom to acknowledge since none of them directly acknowledged us. But we were eventually seated at a comfortable table. They only give you one menu for the table. The menu was typical Korean AYCE: hibachi, appetizers, sides, sushi and sashimi. Adult price was $31 plus $5 if you want sashimi. What is nice is that if only one person at the table wants sashimi, not everybody at the table has to go with the more expensive sashimi option. They have a well-stocked conveyor with several options including sushi rolls and yes, mousse. Above the conveyor belt is a train track with trains that bring your orders to your table. I didn't like the train so much since you have to stand up to reach over to the train to get your order because the track is so high. The kani salad and the hibachi are very good. I loved the dipping sauce that comes with the hibachi (steak, chicken, salmon or shrimp). The other items were good, with the exception of the miso soup. It was nasty with way too much seaweed flavor. I couldn't finish it. Service was good except they did forget my fried rice. I really liked my dessert. This is a wonderful AYCE experience! I originally thought i'd be similar to revolve sushi places where you have to wait for the plate to come around but it's not like that unless you would like a complimentary small side dish. A small automated train system deliveries your ordered sushi to your seat & they also have a revolving option for small little one bites. It did seem as though, those one bites would sit there for some time going around and around. For the AYCE, it was a great price for the quality of the sushi! I was very surprised how tasty the individual pieces of sushi were. & we enjoyed the special rolls. The appetizers (Kani salad and Tuna dish pictured) weren't that great so I'd recommend skipping those and going straight for the sushi pieces & the rolls! I loved this place. The fish was very fresh. We had a party of 7 and we could fit in the long booths. We came very hungry but didn't worry because we could start eating right away from the conveyor sushi. We did the +$5 per adult to have unlimited sashimi. The service was so good. We opted to add the sashimi option, and were glad to hear that my son didn't have to get the add-on too since he's 5 years old. We kind of got filled up on the rolls, and the sashimi took a while to come out. The presentation of the dishes were really nice. We really liked the novelty of the delivery mechanisms that brought out our food. It would have been nice if there were iPad ordering tablets. This place is set-up by conveyor belt but I think they do a combination of that and ordering by waiter. For $5 you can get sashimi, I think this is a great alternative if you don't want all the rice. I have to say the rice is disappointing. Something not too hard to fix! It is not seasoned and falls apart/too dry. I think this would definitely improve test. I wish 8 stars was an option, as I sit here on my couch about to roll off of it. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was what a beautiful space it is with the wood and high ceilings. There are no reservations so my friend and I got on the wait-list, which has a countdown of sorts on your phone. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what the times meant (one was counting up, the other was counting down). All that made sense was how many groups were ahead of us, and that was all I really needed to know. We were seated after about 15 minutes. The way it's set up is you get a menu of sushi and other things to order from, which are all included in the AYCE pricing. You place those orders with your server. They then come around on the top level of the conveyer belt with a tray that stops at your table. The bottom level is a constantly rotating conveyer belt of sweets, sushi rolls, and appetizers. My friend and I had a field day trying a little of everything. We stuffed ourselves silly and agreed that we need to come back. Everything came out at a pretty rapid pace. Any kinks that they needed to work out (based on old reviews) have been smoothed out. They ran like a well-oiled machine. read more

Saturday night dinner was packed. I'm not sure if making a reservation is an option but without a reservation my group of 2 waited 1 hour for a table. After we were seated, our server was quick to put in our order and was fairly attentive all night. Food was somewhat slow to come out but that was expected given how full the restaurant was. On the plus side, there was a conveyor belt of revolving small bites to snack on while you waited for your food. The conveyor belt had a decent selection of appetizers although the items seemed random. I also noticed that some of the conveyor belt items weren't things you could order from the menu. Some of the things we saw circulating: edamame, seaweed salad, melon, peaches, octopus salad, sushi, bread roll, fried scallop, fried shrimp, mozzarella stick, dumplings, mousse, cake. These items were hit or miss. I think I saw the same plate of octopus salad going around the conveyor belt for the entire 90 minutes I was there.... You can tell pretty quickly what items aren't popular lol The sushi, dumpling, and fried scallop we tried from here were good! Our main entrees were delivered via little robot. Throughout your meal you just watch the robots run back and forth on their track from the kitchen to different tables. Kinda cute lol anyway the quality of fish was good for all you can eat. Salmon and yellowtail were particularly good in my opinion. We really enjoyed the salmon avocado handroll Hot appetizers we tried: chicken wings, crab Rangoon, shrimp shumai, and takoyaki. Pretty solid ayce sushi place. We came here because all our sushi places keep closing. Except Sushi Ohayo, which closes mid day. It's about $30 for ayce, and there's a very large selection. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out as exceptional, except the teriyaki streak and hibachi steaks. If I could get the hibachi streak with the teriyaki sauce and all the grilled onions instead of the veggies, id order that several times. We were so disappointed in the nigiri sushi. The fish pieces were small and they packed so much rice at the bottom. We felt scammed. We could barely taste the fish because there was so much rice. We got kind of full after eating only 5 pieces of nigiri each just because of the sheer amount of rice. We ended up deciding not to order anymore sushi and tried the yaki udon beef and other appetizers, which were good. We really enjoyed the yellowtail jalapeño, pepper tuna, and squid salad. The conveyor belt was sad and only had a few things going around when we were there. We ordered most of our food with the waiter. Really solid spot -- I'd definitely come back! The sushi was super fresh, and for an all-you-can-eat place, the variety was impressive. Prices were great too, and the vibe inside was clean and stylish without feeling overdone. Only downside: we came during a slower time between lunch and dinner on a weekday, and a few of our dishes were missed or delayed. We actually overheard the table next to us mention the same thing, so it seemed like a common issue. Honestly, if they switched to mobile or tablet ordering, it would probably make things run a lot smoother and help avoid mix-ups -- maybe even cut down on some staffing needs during quieter hours. My friends and I came when it opened on a weekday. The place was pretty clean and had pretty interior. The food was okay though, I usually can eat a lot during all you can eat but there was something that did not taste right or appetizing. There wasn't anything necessarily bad, but the taste did not make me want to order more. The crab rangoon shell was not crunchy and the filling was too sweet. All the sushi tasted the same and did not have a distinct flavor to differentiate what I was eating. The shrimp hibachi was great though, the size was nice. Since it is an all you can eat place, we would try to continue ordering rounds, but that was the most difficult part. We did not know that the revolving sushi only happens during dinner time, so we had to order through the servers. We would order our first round, and wait for a long time until they would either check in on us, or we would have to flag them down. It was inconvenient because it was hard to get the servers attention. There was no call button or device that we could order from, so we just had to sit there and wait, or we had to get up and find someone to take our order. Overall, the place is okay, I just wish the service was more attentive to tables, since there is not another way to order. An alternative to Kura Revolving Sushi? I didn't think it was possible until I was proven wrong yesterday evening. I went here by myself to try out the new restaurant. There were people outside but when I checked in, I was immediately seated within 5 minutes after putting my name in. Inside looks spacious, there are booths all around and individual seats next to the conveyor belts if you are by yourself or for smaller parties. There's an AYCE option for $29.99 and a A la carte option if you don't think you are able to eat to your heart's content. Now the place mentions that you have an hour for your time limit if you were to go with your AYCE option but I was there for the full duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. I was able to get full and walked out pleasantly surprised. They have a touch screen menu where you can order food ranging from Appetizers, Rice & Noodle dishes, Sashimi Pieces, Regular rolls and Speciality rolls. For items such as the speciality rolls, you'd have to ask your server in advance. There's not really a limit on how much you can order but people tend to order a lot at once and it could be a bit of a wait. Fortunately I can say that from my time there I didn't have that long of a wait for the food and seeing the food come out from the conveyor belt is a joy to see. You are asking yourself, " how much more can I eat? " As you shovel the next piece of sushi into your face. Unfortunately they do not have premium a la carte options. You won't find bluefin tuna but there's so many options I don't think you'd be missing out. This place is growing on me. Once we put our names down, we were told the wait would be about 45 mins. I'm basing the 5 stars on other buffet and AYCE in the area. Our family enjoys this spot. All of us agree we like it! (which can be a difficult task to accomplish.) There's items everyone likes on the menu which is great. We've only ever done AYCE so can not speak for a la carte. I really enjoy the ease of ordering from the server and they even have a picture of the item to show you if you're unsure if you will like an item. The items ordered from the servers are delivered on "robot trains". There's no waiting on a runner from the kitchen. Don't sleep on the free appetizer sashimi plate - it is one per person. (6 pieces of fish per person.) It's always been clean, quick, and great quality for the price. I love that you can get habachi veggies, teriyaki steak, salmon, shrimp besides the usual sushi fare. The fruit is always fresh and my son loves takoyaki and unagi. I am really picky about germs and feeling like regular buffets have spoons/serving dishes that a million people have touched. This system eliminates that whole ick factor for me. Going out to a standard Japanese restaurant costs us the same as the ACYE here. It's a no brainer for us. There's nothing like this in the area. All of the servers have been attentive, kind, and friendly. The kitchen staff is quick with cooked items and clearing tables of the little plates.
