Seriously the worst people work here. They would not allow myself and my friend to purchase the same specialty items. Why you ask? Because we arrived in the same car. Ok so I don't want to make this too long but I want to make sure I cover everything in case the owner wants to reply back. We ordered an 8" round cake for my sons birthday party. We had an "inspiration photo" that was emailed to them but basically the cake was supposed to have a black checkered look on top with the piping "Five Nights at Matt's" and a drip like design on the edges. We thought this was a pretty simple request because the rest of the decor would come from a cake topper we had purchased. First off, we put the order in and we were told the decorator would call us the next day for the final price. Nobody called so we called instead. For some reason they couldn't find our order at first so we had to go over all the details again (no big deal but emphasizing to show that we went over the details 2 times with them). Now this is where is issue comes in. I go to pick up the cake and not only is the piping not even on the cake (it was on a cake board) the word "Night" was spelled wrong and they had no decorator there to fix it! While there, I was put in contact with the owner (Kathleen) and was told that they take pride in their cakes and been in business for 15 years etc. So that's why they couldn't offer a discount (ummm ok?) she said they couldn't do the writing at first because the writing was in fondant. I'm not an expert but anybody could look at the picture and see that it was clearly piped freehand. Then the next excuse came: copyright. Although it's ironic that they had no issue recreating a monster jam and bubble guppies cake we had them previously do. Both of which fall under copyright infringement so there's that. I was told "Do you want the cake or not, because you don't need to take it". Sorry, but as the owner of a bakery it is extremely rude and an unnecessary thing to suggest seeing as this was for a child's birthday. She managed to get ahold of a decorator who came back to as she put it, "do a sloppy job on our cake". Another one of her excuses was that the picture we sent her was of a sloppy cake. Ok, and? All the picture was, was to show the basic inspiration of what we wanted it to look like. I had faith that this bakery could recreate the cake and make it look even better. I guess sorry for thinking that I could get basic piping on top of a cake?! The owner could definitely use a customer service seminar or maybe even watch a few YouTube videos on it. Basically to sum this up, the decorator came back and piped the words on the cake exactly the way we wanted the cake. Crazy to think if they would have done this the first time around, we would have totally avoided all of this headache and they would still have me as a customer. I called on Thursday for a cake on Saturday... and they were able to deliver. The cake was beautiful and delicious! We had a chocolate chip cake with chocolate buttercream and raspberry filling. Sadly- I got into a car accident one minute after leaving the bakery and my car was totaled. I'm a state of shock I thought my car was going to still be mine and had my husband grab the cake so food wasn't going to stink up the car. The cake itself has little damage despite the accident being pretty major! The cake sat in my husband car for over 12 hours and still tasted delicious and was not just a melty mess! We had been to Lochel's a few times and honestly- it's always delicious- fairly priced, and they provide wonderful products with great customer service. read more

I gave them a few chances after a few minor things in the past, but the owner turned away a sale, due to unavailability of workers. Costumers be aware if you place an online order from Lochel's Bakery regardless of the confirmed email of the price via email, it does not matter. After I placed my order then picked up the cake, it was $20 more. When I questioned the price increase, Lochel's failed to admit their mistake then told me their prices increase and daily. I told them I documented the order and have an email confirming the price, but nothing mattered. read more

I've been wanting to try Lochels for a long time. Since they were offering safe and convenient curb side pickup during the Covid 19 pandemic, I decided to go for the 25 min drive and try as much as I could. You'll see by my pictures that I did just that. Everything was very good but the fan favorites were the cream filled powdered doughnuts (best I've ever had) and the cupcakes. My husband also loved the pound cake. All in all very good and will definitely return. I appreciate all they are doing to provide yummy treats during these challenging times. read more

I was in need a last minute birthday cake. When I say that these cakes were pretty that's an understatement. I saw the pictures for their special order cakes and I hoped their to go premade would be nice too. It was gorgeous. It was yellow cake, moist and delicious. I usually am not a fan of yellow cake bc it tastes overly sweet and has a boxed flavor regardless of where it comes from. This cake was amazing! It wasn't too sweet, had a buttery flavor, and even people who don't like cake asked for a piece after trying it. Seriously, I can't find one thing wrong. The customer service was top notch and the cost was extremely reasonable. I'll definitely be going back. Ps I bought some Linzer cookies too and they were to die for. Lochel's is a local, in Hatboro, bakery with all the items one would expect in a bakery. With a full listing on their website, we built a perfect cake. Strawberry cake, 1-inch of lemon buttercream in the middle, with vanilla buttercream to frost. They asked me what colors to decorate, and design options. The cake was moist and flavorful. Donuts-exceptional! In stock cakes-excellent! Ordered cakes-hit or miss (have ordered many, many cakes from here-I don't always get what I specifically asked for...such as color, design). My main problem with this store is the customer service - they can be down right rude! The other HUGE problem I have is being ORDERED to vote for them in the ridiculous "sweetest bakery" contest every time I walk in the store! I would think a "sweetest bakery" contest would be a little more organic, not hounding customers daily and beg for voyesI had to unfollow them from social media, emails, etc because it is all they post - it's absolutely annoying. I hope whatever they gain from the contest is worth losing so many customers from the harassment. Update: I really have no choice but to change my review to a 1 star...the woman that owns the bakery has the absolute worst customer service!! Called to order a cake on a Thursday. I was told when I called that my Saturday pick up date was not a problem. When I went Saturday to pick up my cake which was at 11 o'clock, my cake was not ready. There was no order there but they did find my called in order paper. The order that I called in apparently had the date and the time both crossed off and was changed. It was now a Sunday pick up time and a two hour different time frame. I obviously was not the one to call and change this nor was I the one to cross it off on the paper. She pointed out the one that took my order wasn't there. That obviously wasn't the original issue the issue was that the date and time were changed. After talking to the owner about the situation she offered me cakes that were in the case, all of which were very feminine styles and not close to the flavor I ordered. Being that this cake was for my father-in-law it just wasn't going to work. Long story short of it, someone very nice from the back offered the same kind a cake that I had ordered that was still cooling and undecorated. She offered to have it decorated within the next hour for me take home. Obviously this was my cake it just was not prepared yet since according to the new time I was to be picking up the very next day. If it wasn't for that very nice worker the owner has I would've walked out without my cake and a very disappointed customer. I travel 35 to 40 minutes to get to this location because I like their products but after having this interaction with the owner I'm not so sure I will be back. I have always been treated very nicely by the young adults they have working there. It's amazing how far a simple apology or ability to try and work something out with a customer can go compared to how she handled it. People skills may not be her thing. Nor is asking a customer to not be frustrated while dealing with a frustrating situation. When I returned the hour later I was given an apology by the young adult at the front, she had seen the situation transpire earlier and a fellow customer had wished me luck when leaving the store. I'm glad others realized what happened in this situation and reinforced the owners inability to handle her own attitude as a business was owner. Shame on you! read more

The staff is very preoccupied with talking with one another and when you ask if they have something they were very rude especially the guy there with brown hair. I didn't catch his name. Get fresh with me! Lochel's is a family owned bakery that has been around for years, they also have a cafe right across the street. We happened to stop by on the day they had just reopened after being closed for awhile, after the holidays. To that, I would assume freshly baked goods, which one would expect on a daily basis, but especially on a day after they had been closed for awhile. They do have a lot to choose from, cupcakes galore, cookies, candies, cakes, pies, Danish and much more. I'll admit that I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but hubs sure does enjoy it and he was pleased. I, on the other hand thought the Danish was chintzy on the fillings and even though buttery pastry, it was just too dry for me. The carrot cake was okay, but once again, way too dry and too much ginger? We ordered sticky buns with walnuts and raisins ( for me ) and some without, for Michael. They were loaded with cinnamon and okay, Fritz's are better, but even Fritz's does not compare to the bakery back home that I grew up with. Next time I am in Hatboro, I may check out some of their cupcakes, but I do believe I will pass on what I have tried thus far. They're just okay. read more

I've gone here twice now since being a Horsham resident. Their cookies are good but I always notice a weird flavor in them that I don't find at other local bakeries. Buttercake is pretty on point. I fell for the hype of the presidential cookies and was disappointed through the entire process. I called in an order for a birthday get together 9 days in advance. I didn't receive them after 8 days and when I called to follow up got the run around and was told to call back after the weekend - when I needed the cookies - to see if they had the order. When I got a call today, I was told they didn't have the order at all but they would save some cookies and I could pick them up. Stand in line and come get them. We had to wait in line for 50 minutes. Inside, they clearly were under no pressure to move quickly despite the long long outside. And even though I spoke to someone in the morning, my order was not ready and not boxed. No urgency and it took forever to get it done. Like forever. One register, so when the order being rung up was being disputed because it was wrong, I again had to wait. The cookies? Fair. Would I ever wait or go through this horrible service and process again? Not a chance. Lots of hype with bakeries that are just as good all over who do a better job at customer service- and baking. read more

We stopped by Lochel's yesterday to grab a pumpkin pound cake. We went out of our way to get it after we had it at a friends house. It was so good! Yesterday when we arrived it was super busy and they only had one left. It wasn't done as nice as the others but it tasted great. At $13.00 it was a bit pricey but well worth it. We also got a half dozen donuts. They were all very fresh. I love the apple cider, some of the best I've had. The cream donuts were also very good. They were up there with Holmesburg cream donuts. The store is very clean and everything looked really good and fresh. The staff were also friendly, especially for being so busy. Parking can be a bit of an issue, it's all meter/street parking. We love supporting small businesses and we will stop back in. Solid 4 stars. read more

Wow. So incredibly disappointed in Lochel's - something I never thought I would say. We have supported the bakery for years and years, well before they were ever featured on any national news stations of won any "sweetest bakery in America" awards. And even after they did, we still waited in line for hours to support our neighborhood bakery. Thursday at 10:30 am, my mother called the bakery to order a birthday cake for me on Sunday - three days from the call. The chocolate chip pound was the only thing I wanted all year, and once we finalized family get-together plans, she called. She was told absolutely not because she missed the 9 am cutoff time - which is not listed anywhere online on either the website or any of their social media channels. So buyer beware - apparently they need more than 3 days to make a cake and 90 minutes makes the difference of whether you get one or not. Absolutely ridiculous. To add insult to injury, when I posted this on their Facebook page, whoever responded was incredibly rude and condescending. They wrote that not only do they not need to post a deadline anywhere (why I have no idea - wouldn't they want their customers to know?), but also accused me of writing my review only so that I could get special treatment. I did not ask for any nor did I need their cake - I had already ordered at another bakery who was happy to take the order. They also responded that their deadline had nothing to do with any awards or accolades (even though I didn't say it did - I said I had been going there since BEFORE they had any awards and accolades) and that they did not need me as a customer. Excuse me? How anyone on their team, especially the owner, thought this was an appropriate and acceptable response is absolutely beyond me. Mysteriously my post and all their responses have since disappeared from Facebook. Seems to me Locale's has gotten too big for its britches and they think being snarky is a substitute for good customer service. I will not longer be purchasing anything from this bakery even though I've been getting my stuff here more nearly a decade. Ok, I have read all the garbage from the negative reviews that people left about the owner and the store. If you had to deal with people like the ones leaving them reviews you would be the same way. I see nothing wrong with the owner stating fact and her own opinions after busting her ass for years to get treated like a dog from ahole customers. I have been in the place a lot since I moved to Hatboro in Jan of 09'. And I have been in there so many times to see and hear these aholes complaining about stupid sht, petty sht and uncontrollable sht. Like "wah you don't have my flavor donut" or "Jesus Christ, I had to wait outside in the cold", "helloooo is someone gonna help me!!" (While three employees are already helping other people), "It's how much? This is a rip off". Shall I go on with the bullshit the public puts these workers through? I'll bet any amount of money that the people leaving the comments are the exact entitled fkn ahole people that eff with any customer service worker at any store. I am so sick and tired of these aholes going to places, causing a scene and being at fault for said scene and then coming home to trash the place that they were the problem at. Is this owner up front and honest? Definitely! Does she take bullshit from aholes? Hell no!!!! And for me that's refreshing and I love when these type of people get back what they dish out. You see these type of people throwing fits everyday, just check social media. I have had several jobs over the years and a few in customer service. (Sears cashier, Sears Auto Service Advisor, Cook, 7-11 cashier etc etc.) The job I worked the longest was being a Corrections Officer aka Prison guard in three different level Federal prisons. But I will say I would rather run the risk of getting killed or shanked rather than have to deal with the public again. Thats how awful people are!!! To the owner....Do your thing and don't let anyone treat you like shit.... You built that place from nothing to a highly established business that people from all over the county and state come to. This bakery is very cute, I have always passed by and wanted to try it! The parking is a little difficult (since there is curbside pick up only) so it's hard to parallel park, but other than that, the employees are very nice and helpful. Cake was delicious apparently, but if you want good customer service look elsewhere. I ordered a cake from Japan for a birthday in the States. They admittedly left a word off the cake, said the person who picked the cake up (not the person who paid) didn't mind, proceeded to email me saying how everyone thinks it is a beautiful cake and then exploited the cake on social media after I told them I would do this when I wasn't given a ten percent refund on the order. For 80 bucks the cake should be made well and if you need to ask a customer if it needs redoing, you should have redone it earlier. I wouldn't trust this company as far as I could throw their cake. Direct from my email from them are these words, and as a consumer upset about an order, well these words could make your blood boil: We think the cake looks great and will be adding to our album! We received many compliments in store on the cake as well! As you can tell from their comment below they are defensive and desperate to look good rather than admitting that from a design perspective the cake didn't look good. Also. The 80 dollar cake fed thirty not fifty people as they claimed. I was told 30 on the phone and it was in fact 30 at the party. We'll let the internet be the judge. The FB ad lured me in and the sweet story on their website made me feel like I would arrive to a quaint little place with family values and a welcoming spirit. Nope.
