First and foremost, the Collector Room was fun and for the most part really well done. The puzzles are a bit basic with the exception of one directional lock puzzle. Where the business feels lacking are in two areas, presentation and reward. We have done over a dozen escape rooms at various locations both in town and out of town, and each one of them presents you with a video or story at the start of the room to help set the mood and tone. Lockbusters just told us about the types of locks you'd encounter and that there was nothing high above to deal with. I had to ask for any kind of story and was told "It kind of changes around a bit, but there is a missing guy named Kevin you're trying to save before time runs out and you become part of the collection." It was really a bit disappointing. The other area I'd say needs real improvement is in reward for completing the room. We finished with about 13 and a half minutes to spare and unless we'd gone to check in the first room we were not told how well we did. There are no photo ops like every other Escape Room place, and no merchandise to purchase to celebrate. These are all missed opportunities and honestly kind of left us feeling a little let down given the price paid to play. We might circle back to try out another room, but Lock Busters is certainly not top of my list to check out again. read more

We did the Dracula Room and Jack the Ripper a bit ago and they were horrific. Nothing to really work with, big on zodiac signs, which was ridiculous considering the theme. Every clue is on the walls, nothing to really work with in the room. We started with the Ripper room, didn't get out, figured okay, this was one room that was bad, the Dracula room might be better and we were determined to escape that day. Regret doing it. Just a huge waste of money. The employees weren't really friendly, not very helpful, or at the very least, the clues weren't. I expected the focus to actually be on Dracula and Jack the Ripper, the clues to be focused on them, but no, the obsession with the zodiac signs was off-putting. Wouldn't go back. read more

Our family loves escape rooms and we decided last minute to try this location. It was a last minute decision and we were able to book the dracula room. Our kids love Halloween Horror Nights so thought this was a great option. We got there early in case there was a chance to start earlier, but there was not anything earlier. No worries we found something to do while we waited - the Lockbusters is connected to an Ax Throwing room right next door!! We were able to try Ax throwing while we waited the 40 minutes until our escape room started. The escape room was very well themed and we had a lot of fun. They gave us some recommendations early on things to think of and remember. We had a lot of fun and was able to escape with a minute or so left on the clock. Lockbusters has one of the most immersive escape experiences around, as their set design is on point! The company collaborates with fabricators who work for the theme parks of Orlando like Universal Studios, and the craftsmanship is evident in each of the rooms, though I've only experienced three of them. Cremlocke Manor was my first completed room at Lockbusters, and I got to enjoy it with two of my friends who had loved the other rooms here. It had a nice mix of detailed puzzles and red herrings, and the setting is gorgeous. We were so excited with the stunning visuals that we overlooked the first puzzle, wasting 15 minutes and barely getting out in time in the end! This room comes with a story, making the room linear by design. The special effects were cool and fun! In terms of puzzle generation, there were only two combination locks and 1 key lock, leaving the rest of the room with newer tech to solve with. I returned a year later and did Chopper Down with my girlfriend at the time. This was another immersive room with high tech and many puzzles to solve! You'll find the puzzles here to be more physical and less cognitive, and if your vision is negatively affected by dim lighting, then you may struggle a bit. Communication is key in Chopper down, and this room is certainly challenging with just two persons due to its size, but if you pay attention to the story, then your chance of resolution is high! Kristin did not enjoy the room as much as anticipated because she wanted more themed puzzles. My most recent visit to Lockbusters was for the Bank Heist with my family. Although the links among the puzzles and locks weren't always clear, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The production value was on par with the other rooms here. You're offered a writing tool, and it is necessary to ease your way through this room! This room is not linear, so splitting up your team is a must to complete all that needs to be accomplished. We were lucky to have a team composition of disparate thinkers, playing to our strengths to solve the various puzzles! Lockbusters is located in the westside of Orlando with various other entertainment options. There is a small lot to park in and a Five Guys next door if you're hungry. My daughter was invited to celebrate a birthday at Lockbusters Escape Game and gave the experience a 10/10. The entire staff I interacted with was friendly, accommodating, and very informative. As I sat waiting, 2 other groups arrived to play their games and another group came in for more info. This was the second escape room I've done and it was awesome! It's definitely my favorite so far. Our group chose to do the pirate room. It was definitely a challenge. The puzzles were very good and make you think. The attendant that worked with our group was fun and engaging. The decor inside the room was very well done and helped immerse you in the experience. My family came to town for the holiday, so we decided to do an escape room each day they were here. I've seen ads for Lockbusters for a while, so we decided to give them a try. We immediately loved the decor inside the business. Everything has a steam-punk feel to it, even the costumes the staff wear, and the bathrooms. We tried the Pirate Adventure room, which turned out to be pretty cool. Most everything in the room(s) fit the theme, and the puzzles all worked pretty well, altho one or 2 of the puzzles did take a minute to perform their desired effect. There are a couple puzzle items in the rooms that could use some upkeep, and the starting room was incredibly small and cramped, but all in all, we had a great time. I and my Girlfriend have done a bunch of escape rooms all over florida, big and small so we are experienced. Decor: 5 stars Puzzles: 2 stars. while they were not awful they were confusing, we often found ourselves asking for a help when we had the right answer!! The room did not flow, and there was way too much busy work, not a lot of thought envoled just a bunch of tedious tasks. Game Master: 1 star. When asked to help if an answer was correct, they would talk out step by step (what we already did) and would give us the solution (we already had) wasting time, leaving us to ask again what the solution actually goes to. Customer service: can I give negative stars? After a long week of work the last thing I want is to be spoken to like I'm stupid, especially when I am paying you $ to have fun!! When the game was over (we did not escape even though we were a few puzzles away) the game master came in and in a condescending tone explained "how easy a puzzle is" and "everyone else gets this" and then the icing on the cake was when he said "you should watch some youtube videos on how puzzles and escape games work" Needless to say they have lost my business. read more

Let me just start by saying this place has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. We played the Pirates Adventure and it has the absolute best scenic I think I have ever seen in an escape room. That being said, I know the location is brand new and I worry that a lot of the beautiful decorative elements won't survive much once the inexperienced tourist escape crowd of central Florida ravages it. Undoubtedly due to the costliness of having such amazing decorations in the room, the price per person for each of their escape rooms is $36, about $6 above the "standard" for escape room pricing, and as of now there are no discounts available through Groupon, FHIA, or social media coupon codes. We decided to play anyway because the rooms just looked so cool from the pictures we saw on Facebook, but were a little disappointed by how much we paid when we wound up escaping in 25 minutes... We are experienced escape room players (this was my 40th room), but there were only two of us in the room and we have NEVER escaped a room with so much time left. We had a fun time in the room, but it was somewhat damped when I opened what I assumed was the door to another room (just because of how much time we had left) to find our game master standing behind it in the hallway. The reason we escaped so quickly was because of the lack of puzzles. The cool thing about Lockbusters is that there are no locks--no four digit codes or keys. Now, I don't mind padlocks in an escape room, but tech heavy rooms can be cool when they have unique puzzles. And the puzzles in Pirates Adventure were definitely cool... but there were very few of them. There were five rooms total--two more than most rooms that I have played--but the last three rooms had just ONE puzzle in each of them. A few of the puzzle devices didn't work properly immediately, and were we not experienced players we might not have known what to do. For example at one point we heard a sound in the previous room indicating that something had been unlocked, but it didn't pop out... I had to fiddle with it to get it to come out to give me a piece that I needed. There were also some sound-related technical difficulties--there was a buzzing sound coming from the speakers the whole time, and we couldn't hear the sound from the intro video at all. Considering the fact that the two of us escaped in 25 minutes with some of the puzzles requiring fiddling, combined with the size of the rooms, I definitely would not recommend playing a fully booked room here. I'm not claustrophobic, but I would have been extremely uncomfortable with nine other people in all but the second room of the game. Plus the puzzles are all extremely linear, so there's only one thing to work on at a time. Ten people on one puzzle? No thanks. I wouldn't even recommend playing with more than two. Anyway, with the amazing scenic and concept, I hope this place learns and grows as time goes on. We spoke to (I think) the owner on our way out and he mentioned planning to add more puzzles and make the room more difficult. I'd recommend making the puzzles non-linear if he wants to make it enjoyable for groups larger than two. I'll definitely be back to play future rooms if discounts become available, but I'd be reluctant to spend $36 unless I knew for sure that they had upped their puzzle game. read more

I consistently keep coming back to Lockbusters for their well-made, puzzling, and immersive escape rooms. Check-in is super easy, the staff is friendly, helpful, and humorous, and the rooms are challenging with puzzles that match the storyline. I have completed Pirate Adventure (total group of 7) and finished with about 15 minutes to spare. It has 5 rooms and many things to discover. Because of its few fairly simple puzzles per room though, this room would be great for groups of 3-5. Recently took down Chopper Down (10/10 difficulty) with a total group of 3 people and did not escape. We had about 5-6 steps more? I loved the 3 rooms in this experience. There were many moving parts and hidden gems. Larger groups would benefit from solving multiple puzzles at once in one of the rooms. I can definitely see why it's one of their hardest games. My favorite thing about Lockbusters are how the puzzles coincide with the story (so far) and aren't just dumped in there for extra steps. Coming back soon to try out the Collector! read more

Tonight my boyfriend and I tried our first escape room for date night. Always up for a challenge, we picked their most difficult room: "Chopper Down". It is a 10/10 for difficulty according to their website. The scene is set: you are a soldier whose "chopper" has crashed behind enemy lines. You have to work your way through rooms and launch a missile before time runs out! You get 60 minutes and 3 hints (but I would say both limits are flexible if you're struggling. That may vary.) No worries on feeling "trapped" either. The first and last doors are left unlock so you can leave to the hallway if need be. The difficulty level on this was NO JOKE! Our room was the two of us and another couple who we didn't know previously (but got to know pretty well by the end). We definitely needed more than 3 hints and a little over an hour. "hints" were ACTUALLY helpful hints and not dead giveaways, so you still feel like you're still accomplishing something. All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely go back! Our biggest advice is to make sure you push all the buttons/plug things in/flip switches ALL THE WAY! You may have the right solution and just not be submitting it correctly. Why this place isn't booked solid is beyond me. It's head and shoulders beyond the other escape rooms that you might find in the area. The theming is on par with the affair that you would find during Halloween horror nights at universal studios. You're truly transported from the common hallway into a world that matches the theming entirely. Without giving anything away where you begin is just the beginning of your journey into the story! I actively travel and seek out the best escape rooms in the US, so this review is catered specifically to enthusiasts looking for unique, high quality rooms. Cremlocke Manor - low 3 / 5 (Rank 142 / 156, A decent room, but didn't do enough to distinguish itself from standard escape rooms.) Cremlocke Manor is a 45 min, single room affair where you're trying to figure out the secrets behind the manor. This was the least enjoyable room out of the 16 rooms we've done during our trip in orlando, simply because if your puzzles/gameplay are sketchy, then your set or story have to be pretty amazing for us to overlook it. This is surprising since the set and story were above average and definitely one of the better ones we've seen in orlando, but they simply werent enough to shoulder the burden of how mediocre the puzzles were. All in all, this is a decent, but unexciting room that you can check out if you're into set/story, and should avoid if you care about puzzles. We've heard similar things about their other rooms (great set, mediocre puzzles), so similar advice there. Beginners might enjoy this more than puzzle focused enthusiasts since meh puzzles might not be as important to them as us. Player Recommendations - Enthusiasts should bring exactly 2, beginners should bring probably 3-4 due to how linear the game is, and how a lot of time will be spent thumb twiddling probably. Puzzles - The gameplay in this game was completely linear, and this really felt like you were given 5 lock boxes numbered from 1 to 5, with each lockbox containing the components for the puzzle on how to unlock the next box, and a piece of paper with a simple puzzle that tells you how to do the puzzle. The game was obviously more complicated than that, but this is the first time I've felt something to this degree. The puzzles themselves were mostly single step puzzles that enthusiasts will have seen before - most places tend to mix it up a little bit, but the puzzles here just felt like going through the motions. The game structure itself was also very repetitive which probably also hurt the experience - it felt like you were just doing the same thing over and over again due to how similar the middle part of the room is. There wasnt really any trial and error with figuring out what to do next or where to find the next thing, it was just all given to you pretty much. Set - the set was good and fairly high tech - the special effects were decent, and there were some well produced video sequences throughout the game. The manor itself was decorated nicely in your typical spooky victorian decorations, but the set was static without a ton of ways to actively interact with it. Story - The story was above average - there was pretty reasonable video segments throughout the room, and the puzzles all tied into the story reasonably well thematically. There was even a surprise somewhere in the room so all in all this was pretty good. The puzzles were weird in that what you got for solving the puzzles fit with the room well, but the process of solving the puzzle didnt feel very thematic - we were mostly just fiddling with lock boxes, which is fine but unexciting. We did the pirates room and are heading back later to do the bank heists because we got a preview and it looks awesome! The rooms are intricately designed and look like actual movie sets! Our group has played all of the other rooms in all of the other games in Orlando (this was game #59). So we were excited about a new place opening! A lot of other companies are getting consistently fabulous reviews just because newbies have never seen the genre before and are thrilled to be escaping at all. "It was awesome! They lock you in a room, and you have to solve puzzles to get out!! 5/5!!!!!!" So it's difficult to parse out which are the actual good games. But this place is the real deal. I was skeptical after being told (over and over) that they had the best theming in town. They do, but it doesn't stop there. However, I have to sneak my criticism in somewhere, so let me do it here. Our friendly and enthusiastic game master was on the microphone too much. Unless we ask for a clue or are just about to accidentally break something, A Big Voice just takes us out of the world that they spent so much effort to create--even if it's being encouraging. The puzzles are challenging without being obnoxiously impossible. Too many places have puzzles that are, Easy, Easy, Medium, Easy, Easy, Easy, So Ridiculously Counter-Intuitive That 100% Of Players Need A Clue, Easy, Easy. The puzzles were nicely formidable, but they all made sense. Good extensive use of technology without feeling like, "Hey! Look how much technology we used!" Good variety of puzzle types. I'm sick of rooms that have decent puzzles but 90% are the same TYPE of puzzle (and it's usually math). Super friendly staff that actually has a passion for these. Other places--like America's Escape Game--really feel like the owners are just trying to make money and would've gone with a Jamba Juice franchise if they'd thought it would've been more profitable. The staff we spoke to at Lockbusters were so proud that professionals had worked on giving their rooms the right look--not because it'll bring in more marks, but because that's how you do a thing right. During our visit on June 22, 2017, two of their five rooms had opened. We played the awkwardly named but flawlessly executed Pirate Adventure. These rooms has incredible sets, but the puzzles were not fun and flat out confusing. We went in just to play the Collector room, but because we have heard so many good things regarding their pirate room -as well as having a great time in Collector - that we ended up paying the pirate room immediately after escaping from the Collector. The staff was well themed, personable, and passionate about escape rooms - especially their own. We enjoyed the intense nature of the Collector room and the difficulty of several of their puzzles. We loved the immersion that they took us through during the game play. The pirates room was extremely hands on - in a good way!
