Fun place for a group. We did two escape rooms and the axe throwing. Staff is nice and super accommodating.

We have visited Locksmith Escape Games twice to play two of their games, Bloodshed Bayou and…read moreDoomsday Disaster, which were created in partnership with The Escape Ventures, one of our favorite escape room businesses in Orlando. I can't speak for their other games, so this review is focused on the two we have done and the business as a whole. First of all, this business is located inside a mall from the 90s with all the vintage architecture to match, if you're into that (I am). It feels like a dead mall, with an unbelievable number of closed store fronts and almost no working escalators (it's an escape room in and of itself trying to figure out how to get up and down) but it was pretty busy the one Saturday we went when it was open, so it's more like a living time capsule. When visiting Locksmith after mall hours, you may enter through the side of the building, in between the Dillards and JC Penney anchor stores. The first room we did here was Bloodshed Bayou. The scenic in this room is fantastic and did a great job adding a creepy swamp feeling to the room (although to be clear I wouldn't categorize this as a "spooky" room by any measure). The only reason this isn't a "five star" room for me is because there were one or two puzzles that I felt had slightly iffy logic. I like to have the "a-ha" moment where everything falls into place and makes perfect sense, and for the most part I did that on this experience. I did this room in June 2022, however, so it's entirely possible some of those puzzles could have changed by now! We did the newest room, Doomsday Disaster, two days ago on Saturday. We maxed the room out with six people (we fit okay, but personally I wouldn't recommend putting more than four people in this room for the best experience). Overall the puzzles flowed well and we flew through the room. The only complaint our team had collectively was that the final puzzle was a bit tedious--the kind of puzzle where you figure it out, and THEN you have to do a bunch of work without much thinking--which made the ending anticlimactic. This may sound counterintuitive (but stay with me), but I generally don't love an escape room where the final move is to escape... especially in a case where that activity doesn't align with the established plot line. When I first started doing escape rooms (about 8 years ago, oof), it was expected that the final move would be punching numbers in a door and opening it, but when we opened the final door of Doomsday, we thought we were moving into the final room, not the hallway. Regardless, we had a great experience overall with the room. The staff here is also lovely and they all seem passionate about what they do. I didn't catch his real name, but "Paranoid Pete" from Doomsday gave us a great experience! Though it's a little outside of the usual Orlando bubble, I can definitely recommend these two games for escape enthusiasts, especially those who are fans of the Escape Ventures. I think these would also be a great first experience for any newbies who are curious about escape rooms, especially Doomsday Disaster.

One word. HOT. While I don't necessarily fully blame Locksmith for this, the room should've been…read moregiven a slight discount due to the discomfort of how insanely hot it was. It would've been nice if there was a disclaimer on the website of what to expect. The AC isn't working properly there, so the staff offered neck fans and complimentary water. If I'm paying close to $40 after tax per person, I shouldn't have to be sweating non stop during an hour. The room is pretty small, so that probably added to the heat. We did the bunker themed room. It was heavily lock oriented. So it was a lot of finding combinations. There was 1-2 puzzles that our group really enjoyed. It was a good room, but not amazing. I think the other room we've done there that is swamp theme was more fun. The staff was friendly. It's a bummer they don't offer returning customer discounts. We were told though if we signed up for emails we would get a 10% off coupon. I wish I was told that last time I went, because I would've utilized the coupon this time. With the AC problem I really feel like they should offer a $10 off per person compensation. The room is quality, the staff is nice, but the heat really makes it hard to truly enjoy. As long as the AC is broken, I don't plan on returning. 3 stars because the theme is alright, some of the puzzles our group enjoy, and staff is friendly. Subtracting 2 stars because of the price & the room being insanely hot. I did not take them up on the offer for neck fans. I just didn't find it appealing to wear a neck fan that other sweaty people have potentially worn. I do feel like the staff tried to accommodate. But ultimately we are paying a ton of money, and the experience didn't meet the expectations.
