Vintage yellow Crane sink I bought from Locke.
    Michael T.

A plumbing store like Locke's is a gem. You can take any broken part there and they will either have the replacement in stock or can order it. I call local plumbers Hiller for emergencies, but even the Hiller plumber told me to take the shower valve to Locke. I had even tried taking the shower valve to Home Depot, but even they had no idea how to help me since my valve cartridge was stuck in a brass tube. It was Saturday and Locke was closed, so I had to wait till Monday... I also like Locke because they can help you with older vintage sinks and toilets. Call me crazy but my wife and I love colorful old toilets and sinks. We bought a yellow sink from them and I used some parts from their shop to refurbish an old pink toilet I picked up at an estate sale. The guys who work/own the shop are really knowledgeable and will talk to you about any strategies for fixing it yourself. We locals are very lucky to have this specialty plumbing shop in town!

$93 or free! Only…read morehad excuses. Upselling began before the evaluation even started. Blamed my pipes not being up to code. I ended up ordering a drain snake/auger on Amazon for $65 and completing the job myself.

I had this company out for what should have been a straightforward shower cartridge replacement,…read moreand the whole experience left a bad taste. To start, the plumber was friendly enough, but within minutes of arriving, he pivoted straight into trying to sell me a $5,000 water softener system. I don't know when every service call turns into a retail sales pitch, but it's exhausting. I declined and asked to stick to the actual issue. From there, things got worse. Before even inspecting the cartridge or looking behind the wall, he began suggesting a much more invasive (and expensive) solution involving cutting an access panel into my bedroom wall and potentially replacing surrounding plumbing. Again, this was all before any real attempt to diagnose the problem. When I pushed back and said I just wanted the cartridge replaced, I was quoted around $500. High, but fine. Then, after about 30 seconds of trying, he claimed the faucet "wouldn't come off" and immediately went back to pushing the wall-cutting option. I decided to hold off and take a look myself after he left. The faucet was stuck, sure--but with a Dremel, I had it off in under two minutes. A quick trip to Lowe's, about $150 in parts, and an hour of work later, everything is fixed. No leaks, no wall damage, no unnecessary upsell. End result: I saved somewhere between $350 and $1,000, depending on which route they were trying to steer me toward. I don't expect miracles, but I do expect an honest attempt to fix the actual problem before jumping to the most expensive option. This felt far more like a sales call than a service call. Would not use again.
