It the first time…read morefor my husband and me, as we are reacquainting ourselves with our city after being away for a while. For those not familiar, Corktown is the area where the old Tiger Stadium used to be. We were happy to see how the old stadium was taken over by the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) and is used for youth sporting events. There are also many new restaurants, as well as the beautiful Michigan Central train station that was redeveloped by Ford Motor Company. The Yard at Corktown ("The Yard") is also new to Corktown ("new" to my husband and me). It can probably best be described as a game bar. They have a wall of shelves full of every board game imaginable, plus an area for darts, axe throwing, and a few other electronic games. Our friends also told us The Yard has Trivia Night on Thursdays. There happened to be a Pistons game on that night, and all the TVs played the same game. This was cool because everyone could enjoy regardless of their seating position. While not a huge place, The Yard had comfortable seating and was well laid out, which allowed people to move about without crowding others. The Yard has a very cool and relaxed vibe, and the people were not too loud, pretentious, or obnoxious. It was awesome how the place pretty much came to a standstill as everyone watched their respective screens while the Pistons came from behind to take the game into overtime. Our friends picked out a game, but then we became so engrossed with our conversation we never had the chance to play (lol). I really enjoyed our time at The Yard, and look forward to returning!

She was very attentive, colorful, and friendly. The Yard also offers a lot of other fun activities and game form table shuffle board, darts, to a wide range of board games. They have a bar area and outdoor table and games too. I would highly suggest coming here with friends if you're looking for a good time and something fun to do.

Dear reader, PJ's…read moreLager House in Detroit is exactly the sort of place one hopes to stumble into and then quietly congratulate oneself for finding. It has that charming, welcoming dive bar energy that feels relaxed, unfussy, and immediately easy to like. The staff was friendly and fun, which set the tone nicely from the start, and the music was great all around. It is the kind of place that feels lively without trying too hard, which is very much in its favour. One of the coolest surprises was the speakeasy tucked away almost in plain sight. It can be rented for private events, and it is much larger and more finished than you might expect, with a really nice atmosphere that makes it feel special without losing the bar's overall charm. They also have a great outdoor area with a large TV display, which adds even more appeal if you want to linger a while. And then, of course, there was the happy hour deal: $8 for a shot and a Surfside, which had us at hello and frankly required very little convincing. Overall, PJ's Lager House delivered good drinks, good music, kind people, and a very good time. I would happily go back.

I enjoyed the spicy chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The fries were a HUGE portion and really tasty. The chicken sandwich wasn't overly spicy and had good flavor. They have a good variety of canned cocktails as well. Their back concert room is intimate and good setup. Had a great time!
