I love the idea of CarMax. I love that CarMax actually has a lot right here in Central Indiana…read more I've recently found myself in need of a new vehicle, and I've been exploring several of Indy's auto dealers. As part of the process, I've been to this location of CarMax twice to explore vehicles I found on their website. My needs, because of my disability, are very specific. Unless I try to go to a van (which I considered), I'm mostly looking for a 2-door automatic with enough space that I can slide my wheelchair into the backseat. Simple? Not so much. Coupes aren't trendy these days, and the coupes that are around are either older, high mileage, or way too small for the wheelchair need. If you know this CarMax, you know it's a rather large lot right off the corner of 96th and Gray Road. As you likely know, East 96th Street has several car dealers and it's a great place to start if looking for a car from a Hyundai to a Bentley. CarMax does one of these things I despise, first of all. You can't actually access the lot without sales support. I got the feeling that most people contact them prior to arrival, but I tend to be a "show up" person - that's especially true right now since I'm dependent on a ride and never know when that will happen. When it does, I go. Both times I've been here, I've had specific cars in mind. However, I've also explained my needs. While I accept that wheelchair using drivers are somewhat in the minority, I am always a little baffled when a sales associate can't comprehend the idea of a 2-door automatic. They do exist. When I come on your lot with specific vehicles in mind, simply let me see the vehicles. I got the vibe they felt I was wasting their time. Was this a bad experience? Not really. Was it a good experience? Not really. It was just sort of "meh." Despite a couple visits, I've sort of scratched CarMax off my list. Maybe if I were buying exclusively online, it would be idea. But, as a driver with a wheelchair I just have to know the wheelchair will work. So, I have to show up in person. Once I did that, this place really lost me. I know there are people who swear by CarMax. More power to them, but as someone who needs a little extra in the buying experience this is definitely not a place that seemed to want my business.

The employee who initially helped me was friendly enough, but the overall experience quickly reminded me why I generally dislike car dealerships. The process felt longer and more complicated than it needed to be. I prefer direct conversations, clear numbers, and getting in and out without a lot of back-and-forth. The biggest issue for me was the interaction with management. Instead of really listening to what I was trying to accomplish, the manager seemed more interested in steering the conversation toward his version of helping. It felt like he was talking at me rather than listening to my questions and concerns. To be fair, maybe I'm not the typical dealership customer. I don't enjoy negotiating, I don't enjoy sales pitches, and I value efficiency above almost everything else. Unfortunately, this visit felt like a textbook dealership experience, and not in a good way. If you enjoy the traditional car-buying process, your experience may be different. For me, it reinforced many of the reasons I avoid dealerships whenever possible. - JY review

I've bought a lot of cars over the years and did not look forward to dealing with the normal issues of buying a car, but these guys made it easy to do the deal. NOTHING BUT ABSOLUTE PROFESSIONALS FROM THE ENTRY TO THE EXIT. The car was perfect in every way and better than described. Also, FRITZ is a terrific guy if you can catch him. They wouldn't negotiate on price until I got a PPI which was scheduled for Monday morning - the earliest appt available. We arranged for me to pick up the car early Monday morning before they opened. I arrived and the salesman smiles and says, it's gone! He sold the car on Saturday. No call. No first right of refusal. No courtesy. Nothing. This car was a specialty color that is very rare. I was in love with the car and was ready to pay cash on Thursday night, but they wouldn't even discuss it before I got the PPI. That's super fishy. Is it because you were holding it for another buyer? Is it because I'm a young woman? Is it because I'm Black? Doesn't matter. It was wrong. I think it was his smile that sent me over the edge. Nothing about this situation was joyous. I will never return and I hope no one else does, either. Shame on you, Fritz!

Now their response is essentially, "Sorry you're going through that." It started when my brakes began squeaking, and the GMC app warned me that my brake pad life was low. While I was in Florida, I took the vehicle to a local Cadillac dealership for an oil change and asked them to inspect the brakes. They told me it was a faulty sensor, my brakes were still around 85%, and the vehicle was perfectly safe to drive back to Indiana. During the Florida visit, my sunroof weatherstrip detached and started sticking out of the corner. The app then escalated to saying my brake pads were critical, the brake warning lights came on, and almost all of my rear taillights stopped working. Both rear taillights and the liftgate lights were out, leaving only one brake light on the left side functioning. When I returned, I took the vehicle to Andy Mohr Buick GMC in Fishers. The first thing they told me was that my front brakes and rotors were completely worn out and that I needed to pay nearly $700 for new brakes because I "brake too hard." The moment I showed them the documentation from the Cadillac dealership stating it was a sensor issue, the story suddenly changed. Now it was a warranty repair, and my brakes were supposedly fine after all. Funny how that worked. They eventually replaced the faulty sensor under warranty, but somehow my sway bar was broken when I got my vehicle back, requiring another repair. Then there were the taillights. They supposedly ordered replacement parts, but they ordered the wrong light. I returned again, only to learn they had ordered the left side but completely forgot the liftgate light was also out. It took months before the correct parts finally arrived and the repair was completed. The sunroof was even worse. During my first visit, they admitted they "didn't get to it," so I had to schedule another appointment. Later my service advisor, Andy, told me what actually happened: instead of replacing the damaged weatherstrip, someone simply pushed it back into place with their fingers. A couple of weeks later it came back out. I returned again, and Andy explained the entire sunroof assembly would have to be removed to replace the weatherstrip correctly. He told me they would need my vehicle for five days. He ordered the part, we scheduled the repair, and then just a few hours after I dropped the vehicle off, he called to say it was finished. It wasn't. Instead of performing the repair they described, they simply glued the weatherstrip back in and assured me it was "99.995% effective." Fast forward two months, and the weatherstrip is now coming loose on all four corners. It became so bad that I had to pull over on the interstate because it was flapping violently in the wind. By this point, my vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage, and I had moved out of state. Their response? "Sorry you're going through that. Maybe your local dealership will give you a discount." The service manager also told me the General Manager wanted to call me personally. That call never happened. This dealership repeatedly misdiagnosed problems, changed their story when confronted with documentation, ordered incorrect parts, failed to complete repairs they promised, and used temporary fixes instead of properly repairing my vehicle while it was still under warranty. They wasted my time with multiple return visits, and now that the warranty has expired, they've washed their hands of the situation. If you value honest communication, competent repairs, and a dealership that stands behind its work, I strongly recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else.

He was honest with me and fair and helpful, especially when I needed his help with my lack of experience in manual transmission. He was only unable to passenger seat drive because he was the only one there when I arrived. I had a great test drive and he had most paperwork ready when I came back so we could get the ball rolling. We had already talked about the cash offer, so he was NOT pushing me to a sale. We had already discussed and accepted loose terms. After the test drive I left the lot and unfortunately the radio system stopped working but when I came back for an unrelated issue (accidentally left their plate in the car I bought and I was brining it back) both Katie and Geoff genuinely poured so much effort into trying to figure out where the sound went. When Geoff finally found a problem and called it, he gave me a name of a specialist and told me we'd work it out and I believe them. I'll keep the review updated too. When I called the audio place, they even offered to call G5 directly to work it out but I told them to wait and we'll figure it out. Overall I'm very pleased, and as an added bonus, Geoff backed up my car so it was pointed straight at the exit so I could pull straight out. They really did try to fix my problem. 8/14 8/22 ; I have the appointment with their audio person to fix the radio and they're helping me and are being nice enough to get it working again. The only thing that I had to get fixed on my boy right away was a tire that got a nail in it which wasn't their fault at all. There just is a lot of construction in the area. They've answered my (silly at times) questions and even Katie reached out when she hadn't heard if I'd gotten the radio fixed. Wonderful folks. Official two week report; Well... used cars sometimes do used car things. That's not their fault though. They set me up with the audio, so I didn't have to spend even more money to get him working with good audio. The only thing that wasn't set up was a subwoofer so my audio doesn't sound great but I know it was a nightmare just to get it to working. They didn't need to set me up and did anyway. If you need a car, head over there. I think you can find a really good one on the lot.
