High Level stuff I had the fish if the day Blow Torched Cod with clams served over a parsnip emulsion and with a bier blanc sauce. Absolutely spot on. King scallops and polenta fries were paired for another main. It was very good with a pesto sauce. Also on the table was the Cauliflower Steak, the vegetarian option, it was reportedly good but not too filling. Don't get me wrong, vegetarian and vegans have strong options here. Lastly, the burger and chips were on the table. They disappeared quickly. High Marks for this place

However, the potatoes in my salad tasted stale, and the grilled cabbage side was mushy rather than having any crunch or depth of flavour. The bacon jam on the burger was not pleasant, and the fried onion ring was soggy and stale. I'm not sure if it was just an off day or if something has changed in the kitchen, but with so many other great options around, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

The chef holds a Michelin star at their sister property in County Waterford. We ordered oysters, mussels, duck, salad, and veggies but the highlight was the huge and tasty pot of mussels infused with saffron and a hint​ of curry. The duck was chewy and not as delicious. The birthday girl was brought a dish of gelato with a candle in it and we all sang happy birthday. This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful area for strolling and people watching. I loved that they had 2 daily specials - one regular and one vegetarian (that was NOT a salad)! Nestled by the warmth of the restaurant (and a cold brew) - the food came out quick and was quickly inhaled. I ordered the vegetarian special which that day was a Vegetarian Sandwich with hummus. A bit too much eggplant for my taste but good nonetheless. I spied some of the other diners' dishes I have to say they looked delicious too. Its a great place to grab a bite if you are in the area.

French fries aren't normally something to get excited about but these were a gastronomic masterpiece; the insides soft and sweet, not starchy, the outsides browned and subtly crisp, and I don't know what they were fried in but these had so much flavor it must have been beef tallow or duck fat. I'd come here again just to have a platter of these amazing fries! The wife's Coq Au Vin Façon La Maison (chicken breast braised in red wine, smoked bacon, mushrooms, baby onions, roast carrot, pomme purée) was equally memorable. I've never considering ordering this, thinking it too simple or plain. Not this. The red wine sauce really elevated a simple braised chicken. And how do they make even a simple carrot taste so good? We each had a wine from the ample selection of by the glass offerings and shared a gingery dessert which we both enjoyed. The service was good and not rushed. Just don't be intimidated by the waiter, who announced when he brought the bill that tip was not included; it seems this could have been handled more subtly.

My husband had the steak which was also cooked nicely. To drink, we had a couple of glasses of wine each; La Maison has a solid wine menu with lots of delicious French wines and a few Italian wines as well. We arrived early in the afternoon, and once the restaurant opened, we were provided with free smells of wonderfully cooking beef. Our plans were to go explore Kilkenny, looking for a place to eat, as the Butcher did not have any available seats. As l've done with other cities around Scotland and Ireland, I walked in, asked Camila if there were any seats available for four, she said we have one available right now. I scurried back and got the rest of the crew, and we were provided with a wonderful meal. We all chose the daily special, which was a 12 ounce ribeye, which we shared between each couple. We also added in salads, as well as grilled vegetables and sautéed mushrooms. All aspects of the meal were really good. I don't recall the name of the server, but he was very good, along with everybody else on the team who were always paying attention, and provided you with anything you needed at a moment's notice. The restaurant was very busy, and I'm surprised we were able to get a table, but Camila did a great job. Great vibe in the place. But the hostess was an absolute gem. She had even tried calling me and still held our table. That kind of kindness already made me a fan before I even sat down. The food was incredible. I'm not usually into beans, but theirs were so good I kept going back for more. The scallops were perfectly cooked, sweet and tender. And the steak... wow. The flavor was out of this world. I've had some great steaks in my life, but this one took the cake. Every bite was rich, juicy, and unforgettable. I ate all over Ireland, and this was hands down my favorite meal of the trip.
