If you're not picky and you're on a budget this is the place for you. My husband and I stayed in the Family Cabin. We decided last minute to stay out near the park rather than drive back to Seattle late. The husband and wife owners were responsive and fast to help us, we were checked into the cabin within an hour of calling to see if they had any availability. The cabin itself is outdated (and we both found the mattress to be super uncomfortable), but it had plenty of space, heat, and internet. Everything worked fine for us. We did find dead bugs in the cabin like another review said but like, you're a mile from a national park- there's gonna be bugs. There were also deer roaming around so that was cute. We stayed at one of the cabins - Cedar Cabin. Two stars because, I guess I could imagine worse? GOOD: . The lodge is VERY close to the park. It was great to be able to jaunt right in and out of the park. . The surroundings were beautiful. We really felt like we were in a cabin in the woods. BAD: . The main living room & the kitchen were impossible to heat (w/o $15 of firewood per day) . There were no instructions for operating the fireplace, and we obviously weren't getting it right, because the cabin filled with smoke. We eventually chose to be cold instead of dealing with all of the smoke. . Lights and appliances and lots of things were broken. . The gutter leaked all along the front porch. The cabin just looked like nobody cared about it at all. TERRIBLE: . The main issue is that the cabin was EXTREMELY dirty! We don't mind rustic, but this place was really just disgusting. There were cobwebs everywhere, and every corner was piled with dirt and dust. It looked like it hadn't even been vacuumed. Worst of all, there were sticky food spills and whatever other gunk all through the fridge, freezer, and cabinets. We washed every dish and pot before we used it. It also took 20 minutes of hard scrubbing before we felt comfortable giving our son a bath in the tub. The black stuff going down the drain was disgusting. We didn't expect to be scrubbing a tub on our vacation! There were food or barf spills or something on the carpet. It didn't look like anybody had even attempted to clean it up before we arrived. Don't bring a kid here. We spent a good part of the time trying to convince our son not to touch stuff or play on the floor or the furniture. Thank goodness he's walking and done with the crawling stage! We just basically felt grossed out the whole time. And we're seriously not neat freaks. For the price, you can do a lot better. There are plenty of other cabins in the immediate area. Don't stay here. read more

There are only 2 windows that you can open throughout the house, 1 in the kitchen, and 1 in the bedroom. 2nd room with bunkbed is extremely small (2 ft space from door) the makeshift closet and window is unreachable and dimly lit. Let me begin by saying I hate to leave bad reviews as so often they are inaccurate and only reflect persons high sense of entitlement or cranky attitude. Regarding the Lodge near Mt Rainier, I need to be brutally honest! We stayed in the Green Hill cabin. The review is specifically for this cabin and the red cabin (Family cabin) next door as we spoke with a few guests that decided to bolt and find another lodging. Anyhow, the Green Hill cabin is not, by any means, a decent place to stay despite its proximity to the park entrance. As soon as you get to within 50' of the place it looks like a ramshackle abandoned outbuilding. It's in need of dire repair, and insects and mice/bats (yes bats) have easy access from many places. The charcoal grille (pictured is a new looking red grille online) is rusted out, filthy and in need of replacement. The front porch leans badly and is falling apart. Around the building, the grounds are littered with "slash" from various trees that have been removed. The perimeter is overgrown with 3' high weeds. Now to the interior. If you said it was "outdated" that would be kind. The interior is terrible and the issues are many. beginning with the bathroom. Our bath towels were not changed since the last visitors. bath towels are barely oversized dish towels, no joke! About 24 x 36" or so. Upon drying after the first shower, I had long black hairs all over my arms and face from the last user. The water heater "temp mixer" was not working properly, after 3 minutes you would get scalding hot water followed by freezing cold before regulating. The mirror/cabinet over the decade's old sink protruded from the wall so far you could barely brush your teeth and spit. We had to revert to the kitchen sink. The bath window is in the tub area, and guess what? NO WINDOW COVERING! The showerhead as measured sits at 4' 11" from the tub base! You need to wash your upper body by kneeling in the tub. The water smells of sulfur and the wall is rust-stained horribly in the tub. They DO NOT lean after the last guest, and also do not do any guest keeping during your visit. The double bed is in the kitchen area. It is one of the most uncomfortable beds you could imagine. We've read reviews stating that they rarely if ever change the bedding. We believe that to be true. No privacy at all, the window dressings are transparent and can see inside at night with lights on! No shades. The ceiling overhead is nasty, literally completely water stained and in need of repair. The thin "carpeting" throughout is filthy and we don't recommend to walk on it with bare feet. Dead bugs are found all over the floor. A round free standing wood stove sits between the bed and tiny kitchen. It's not very secure and is sitting on red bricks. Huge spiderwebs adorn the corners throughout. They DO however have a toaster that works, a microwave, a domestic size refrigerator and freezer, coffee maker and an oven. They stuck a sheet of metal behind the stove as a backsplash, the countertops are in overall poor condition. The dinnerware on the open shelves was loaded with dead flies and ants. We had to wash and cover them when not in the unit. The one small bedroom in the green cabin has bunk beds for kids. From under the top bunk, you look up and can see all the wooden support slats are broken rendering the top bunk unusable except for a lightweight child. The broken wooden supports encroach upon the sleeping space of the bottom bunk, and are sharp! We used for storage to keep spiders from crawling into our luggage on the floor. The Family Cabin next door saw a high turnover rate. Twice guest left without staying a night. We did get a peek inside as one of the guests inquired if our green cabin was rough as well. Apparently, the red cabin looks a bit more livable inside but has many of the same issues including the beds, bugs, H/W heater, overall condition and lack of upkeep. The front porch has a drain gutter that has weeds growing nearly 4' high from edge to edge. The LR fireplace and wood floors look cozy in the pictures they posted but upon closer inspection, you see the wide gaps in the corners where spiders and mice enter. read more

The cabin looked great on the outside...Inside was a different story. The furniture and everything was very old as well as the beds being dirty. The ceiling fan in the main room had a turn of dust on it and cob webs hanging down off it. There were exposed wires in a couple places and wiring that cannot be up to code standards as they just simply ran it along the outside of the walls, not even trying to hide it. The stove doesn't work, fireplace is sitting on bricks and isn't secure. Went for a walk that night and saw small flames coming from the chimney so clearly it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Don't come here. Now I know why all the reviews are from years ago. It's probably because they never attract anyone with these hideous cabins. First off you walk and everything squeaks and you get this MUSTY smell all over the whole lodge. Very dusty so very bad for people with allergies like me. Looks like an old church camp with the layout. Every room and I promise you every room has spiderwebs and bugs in every single room as if no one has been there in years in which I can now believe after staying. Bathtubs and toilets are stained yellow and brown. Beds have food stains all over the sheets. It's just ridiculous how much they charge for such an ugly place. FYI the pictures that are shown are different cabins owned by whoever owns these cabins. So if you get the cabin that looks like a red farm well....good luck. This place needs serious remodeling. I'm suprised they are still open. I promise you that you will find better places if you are planning on going up Mt Rainer. read more

My niece and I stayed in the Family Cabin so we'd both have a separate space for some alone time. I wasn't expecting the Ritz and in that regard, I wasn't disappointed. The property is nice, there are plenty of trees and critters and a cute little greenhouse. It appears that they're undergoing renovations as there were piles of old furniture and cabinetry/tubs in front of several of the cabins. Ours was nice, with new imitation wood floors, clean kitchen, bedding, etc. The big negative is that the tap water is "interesting." They have a sign next to the kitchen sink that warns that the hot water has an aroma, but it's perfectly safe to use for cleansing. When I read that, I wondered what that meant for drinking or showering. I found out when I tried to take some medication...the cold water was disgusting. I opted to dry swallow instead of continuing with the water. When I took a shower, the hot water was wonderfully hot, but it definitely had an aroma, it smelled with rotten eggs and I told myself that I was just enjoying a mineral spa so I could finish. Thankfully the aroma didn't cling to me, but it did stick around the cabin for awhile afterward. We opened the windows and went out hiking. By the time we got back, it was fine. I loved that the surrounding area is so beautiful and that the beds were very comfy. As others have mentioned, the entrance to Mt Rainier is very close, so it was easy to go up the mountain and no worries about driving too far after a long day of activity. The cost was reasonable, so we dealt with the few discomforts: no cellular service, wi-fi that wasn't steady and a flat screen TV that wasn't hooked up to anything (no off-air, no cable/satellite, no DVD player), so we read and chatted and went to bed. read more

Preface: If you want to camp, just camp. Pros: - If you have a dog, s/he can run free. Nice wide open meadow / property and no leash rule. - You are off the grid, here. No service. No radio. No TV. No board games. No cards. No books (standard issue Gideon excluded). So, be prepared with a deck of cards and / or a pile of firewood. Know what you're getting into. Accept that you may or may not have water. This is basically camping without having to bring a tent. Bring everything else, and pay a few x the price of a campsite. Website advertises much more and cabins look cozy. In reality, they feel like they're abandoned and scheduled for demo. (Are squatters renting these out?) read more

We rented the Family Cabin. So quaint and precious! The carpet and curtains could use replacing and they should really heat the cabin up for an hour before guests arrive-- but all you have to do is turn the heat on and go hike the mountain for a few hours and by the time you come back- it will be all warm and toasty. They should include directions on 'how to operate the fireplace for dummies'. haha. we filled the place up with smoke on our first fire attempt because we didn't have the chimney vent open all the way! Not to say the cabin smelled bad-- because it didn't, it smelled like a cabin, but we burned a few "pumpkin spice" candles that we brought to make the place smell more like home. We would recommend that- it adds to the coziness! Ok, so--- THIS PLACE IS WONDERFUL! Like I said we rented the Family Cabin.The grounds were beautiful and deer walk around the property! My husband and I wanted a romantic mountain getaway. The Managers were SO understanding and nice. They let us check in early at no extra cost bc my husband is military and was on VERY short leave time, so every moment counted. It was October. A bit chilly. We settled into our cabin, blasted the heat and went hiking out in Paradise. (did I mention that the Nisqually entrance to Ranier is 5 feet away? They are the CLOSEST in proximity to it!) We loved our hike. We had a wonderful dinner at Alexanders and came back at 6:30pm and the cabin was perfect temperature. We got a fire going and laid spare fleece blankets from the closet out on the floor in front of the fire and sipped our wine. We eventually made it to bed. The bed was very comfy and they provide plenty of extra fleece blankets and pillows if needed. We slept 11 hours straight- no interuptions. The place is SO quiet and peaceful! 11 hours of sleep is just insane for us. We woke up the next morning and laid in bed watching little birds in the tree in perfect view through the window in front of the bed. We read together, got up and fixed tea on the gas stove, baked croissants and sat out on the front porch in the cool mountain air. Before we left we took a steamy shower (PLENTY of hot water)!!! They provide at least 4 plush clean towels to dry off. We only wish we could have stayed 3 more nights!!!! At the price of $70 for that location and true rustic mountain cabin experience--- THIS IS UNBEATABLE. If your expecting a Hilton hotel room, don't come here. Pay $150 more per night and stay someplace further away. But if your the type that can appreciate history and you love a REAL and rugged mountain experience-this is your place! Its simple, quaint cozy cottage-type lodging and you'll love it! WE WILL ABSOLUTELY BE BACK! EXTRA'S: -They provide some board games to play and books for guests to read. If we had more time we probably would have taken advantage of those. -They provide dishes, mugs, pots, pans and utensils. bring your own food/wine/ wine glasses. -They supply big bundles of firewood $4 a bundle at the front office. -If you don't want to fool with making your own romantic crackling fire--- We suggest bringing a room heater from home to help with heating in the living area. Bedroom/Bathroom heat was PERFECT! :) so warm and cozy! -Make sure you open the chimney vent ALLLL the way! We recomend opening all windows/doors on your first fire attempt just incase you dont get it right the first time. - we recommend bringing fragrant candles to burn and slippers to wear to increase the homey feeling :) but you'll be fine without them! read more

Great combo of being in the woods and feeling like you're roughing it while having access to all the things you're used to like bathrooms, electricity and a full kitchen! We stayed at the Small Lodge. The pictures on the website do not reveal the true condition of the inside. Dirty. Kitchen smells bad. We saw bugs. The layout is very odd, lots of old couches that would not be good enough to be sold at Goodwill litter the living room. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. This place is a dump at any price, but to have paid $275 is more than outrageous. read more
