We always stay at the cabins here at the pines once a year. The restaurant had been closed for a while and it finally opened. It was my first time trying it. It is more expensive but we really enjoyed it and I'd eat here again next time we visit. We met the owner and she was very nice. We had a great waitress as well. My mom and I ordered the fried pickles and they were excellent. They came with fry sauce, I was so happy this restaurant had fry sauce. My mom ordered a salad which she enjoyed. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries. Our waitress and the owner suggested that and said that is what they are known for and it was so good! It was a great recommendation. The food is absolutely amazing. We had a party of 6 and each of us raved over how delicious everything was. The omelets were loaded with goodness and cooked perfect. Never had a better French toast. You must try. Homemade biscuits were big and delicious. The sausage is hand made and the taste is the best sausage we ever had. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day. What a great find! Debbie and her husband took over the restaurant a few years ago and are doing an excellent job. We came in for dinner and three people in our group had prime rib and said it was incredible. We had two orders of the fried cheese curds, they were a hit. Very lightly breaded and have small pieces of jalapeño that were so good. I had the cheesesteak, Debbie said they are known for it and it's clear why! Beautiful place with an authentic Idaho outdoorsy feel (see pics). Food and pricing were great, but the service is what was really exceptional. We came in at the last minute with a party of 10. They kept the restaurant open to accommodate us, and we got first rate service; including drink service and a customized dessert. I'm giving this place 5 stars based on the service and atmosphere. The food is fine, but very under seasoned. We went twice, and I got the veggie omelet the first time, which was BEAUTIFUL, but had no seasoning. The second time, I got the Philly cheesesteak, but there was zero cheese in it, it was basically steak and onion. The bread was toasted beautifully though. Also, the fries were really good, but there were very few of them, considering the cost. $20 for the meal. So I hope those notes are helpful for the restaurant. That being said, the service absolutely redeemed these things. The first time we went, we had a server named Cody, and he is probably the best server I've ever had in any restaurant ever. He made the best Bloody Mary I've had in my life, and he was just so fun and friendly and he was the reason we went back a second time. He recognized us and was just so funny and cool. We also met the owner and she was awesome. There was a Targhee Women's group when we went the second time, so clearly this place is beloved in the community. I already miss it, but we will definitely be back the next time we visit, and I wish all the best for this place and the people who run it!!! Thanks so much!! read more

We drove 6 hours today to finally arrive at our beautiful hotel in Island Park. When I asked about local restaurants, this place was mentioned. We thought we would give it a try. It was awful. We were greeted by a sign indicating that they are out of vegetables. The waitress was overworked, seemingly tending bar and covering tables single-handedly. At one point she got in a shouting match with another employee and f-bombs were thrown, loudly. NO ONE was wearing masks. The restaurant felt a little dirty. Then came the food. My salad looked okay. Then I looked closer. Lettuce was a bit more wilted than not, two tomatoes were bad (wrinkled and sprouting mold) and an onion was totally limp. I split the "seafood platter" with my 9-year-old. This consisted of two tiny pieces of cod and 4 shrimp. All appeared to be frozen food. Then there was the fries. The burned fries. Not good. My husband had the teriyaki chicken and mashed potatoes. He said the chicken was "okay", but he couldn't even eat the mashed potatoes. They messed up mashed potatoes. My other daughter had the kid's grilled cheese. Although a little burnt, it was the highlight of the meal. American cheese for the win! read more

What?? Where is the world did this place come from? A friend that lives in the area took us there. It is a lovely log cabin sort of a place on a back woods road and when we went in there.... there was only one table of folks there.... pindrop. I would've turned around and left but we were with a friend, so I gridded my loins and prepared for an awful meal. Boy was I in for a surprise! We were there for lunch and the special was a prime rib French dip on rosemary focaccia and baked potato soup. We all ordered one and were blown away! Fresh warm bread, high quality prime rib, hot horseradish and delicious soup. The salad was even fresh and creative. The best meal we had out in Idaho. I highly recommend it. Major score! Worst service ever. The server got half of the orders wrong. Even the special sign when you walk in was pretty simple but them they didn't even bring the correct food out. One of the kids ordered a hamburger (8$) instead they brought out a 20$ burger steak. Any time we told them that things were not correct they got very defensive. Way over priced also. read more

Well we decided to try this place because we love new random places ..BUT the first thing we saw was the extremely limited menu and then the next thing were the astronomical prices for the food ...my best friend got the chicken with fries...the chicken was super tiny and he ate it in literally 4 bites ..the price ..a whopping 20$ for that ...then my wife got a clam chowder which we were lied to and told it was 4$ but was charged 6$ ,me and her both got a salad and our salads got reversed because I had asked for no tomato ...however ..despite the tomato ,the salad was really good and my friend said his chicken was good but should have gotten like 3 pieces because of how small it is..the waitress was decent but seemed to have an attitude when asked about the price of the clam chowder .....right down the street was a pizza joint where my friend got a pizza for half the price and it was a great size and great taste .. Stopped for lunch. We were the only ones here as it was end of winter season and raining. Super clean and well appointed inside. Waitress was very friendly. Had the clam chowder, not the best I've had but pretty good. Lots of potatoes (it is Idaho!), Just a few more clams, please. Had the pretzel (5) and queso (4), Hubby had the Texas toast cheeseburger special which was good but nothing "special" just a good value. Experience started out great when we called ahead to make a reservation; they said they don't do reservations but for our party of 10 they would try and save us a large table. When we got there, a table waiting for us. The restaurant was pretty empty. It went downhill from there. Our table was sticky. The waitress was very forgetful. When she was taking our salads away she dropped one of the plates and dressing onto my daughter. Salad and dressing was all over her and all over the floor. My daughter had to go take her shirt off and wear a coat because she was so sticky. Our waitress did not clean up the spill or dropped plates/silverware or bring more napkins. One of the other people eating at a nearby table was the owners granddaughter who also worked here and she kept coming over to assist in the cleaning and asking the waitress to sweep up but she hardly did. It was a tripping hazard. In addition to this some of our food arrived cold that should have been hot, and the salad arrived room temperature. Food was over priced for what it is. Would you like some salad with your dressing? Seriously, the best part of my meal was the water. Could not even see the greens in the salad because it was completely drenched in dressing. The fresh cut fries could have been the highlight, but they were seriously undercooked. And that was after waiting over 25 minutes for our food after ordering.
