I visited Madison Crossing Lounge the evening before running the Yellowstone Half Marathon, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. I arrived around 7 PM and grabbed a seat at the bar since I was dining solo. The restaurant was busy, but the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. For dinner, I ordered the Chicken Prosciutto Pasta with a side of bread. The pasta was outstanding -- easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a long time. The combination of braised chicken, prosciutto, mushrooms, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and creamy parmesan-mascarpone sauce came together perfectly. Every bite was flavorful, rich, and satisfying without feeling heavy or dry. As someone preparing for a half marathon the next morning, it was the perfect carb-loading meal. I also ordered the Huckleberry Sundae for dessert. If you're visiting the Yellowstone area, do yourself a favor and try something with huckleberries. The ice cream, topping, and whipped cream were fantastic, and it ended up being one of my favorite desserts from the trip. One unexpected bonus was getting to chat with other travelers at the bar, including another runner who was also working toward completing a half marathon in all 50 states. It added to the friendly, welcoming feel of the place. Overall, Madison Crossing Lounge delivered excellent food, a great atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience. I don't hand out many five-star reviews, but this one earned it. If I'm back in West Yellowstone for another race or a visit to Yellowstone National Park, I'll absolutely be returning. From the outset of our trip, Madison Crossing is one of the slightly upscale restaurants in the town of WYS. (Don't let the word 'lounge' throw you off. It's not 1990s sleek or clubby.) You don't have to be dressy or childless, but the menu and ambiance are ever slightly more grown-up than other options. Prices reflect that while still being reasonable. Standard salads were refreshing start to unwind after crowds at Yellowstone. Excellently buttered and pan-seared trout with grilled asparagus and sauteed snap peas were wonderful. I had the fresh bison tenderloin served with asparagus and mashed potatoes and a side of wild rice. Chased it down with a huckleberry lemonade. The Huckleberry lemonade was very good and was recommended. While Reis was good, the asparagus and mashed potatoes were very good. The bison tenderloin was good, but I think it's better served as a ground meat in a burger form. It was tender, but not as flavorful as some of the other bison, I've recently had. Arrived a few minutes before opening and there was already a line forming. We were sat quickly and our server was Justin. I had the Huckleberry lemonade and my son had the Red Ale. We opted for the crab stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon and this was by far the best thing I've eaten while on this vacation! The pesto sauce put it over the top! My entire party enjoyed our food and the service very much. The only concern was how my steak was cooked. I ordered medium rare, and it came out very rare, almost blue. So glad we came here! We grabbed drinks at the Yellowstone Beer Company (located in the same building across the hall) while we waited for our table (less than 15 mins) and were able to bring our drinks to our table when it was ready. The bison nachos were fantastic and we kept talking about them all week! Also, one person in our party had their steak come out at the wrong temperature; the server did not hesitate or wait to be asked to fix it, she immediately took it back and it was remade with zero fuss or questions asked. We loved how smooth that was, some of us didn't even know it had happened because she just quietly took care of it immediately. Visited as it was highly recommended. My family of four dined here on a Saturday when visiting. The cocktails my wife and I ordered were excellent. We also all ordered Ceasar salads and they were great. Then came the main courses. Kids both had burgers which they enjoyed. I ordered the Trout and while it was a decent serving, it was under seasoned and the sauce was weak. Felt like nothing special. My wife ordered the NY Strip steak and it wasn't seasoned well and wasn't cooked well. There was absolutely no sear on the steak and it was a bit chewy. Not terrible enough to send back but a bit disappointing. I'd say go for the drinks and maybe an appetizer, but their main courses aren't on par with the costs ($250 for our family of 4). read more

Bison is the theme for this night's dinner. Bison burger: I've had bison before, but it has been such a long time that I thought after seeing these creatures during the day that why not, let's try some again. If you've never had it before, it's just like any beef burger. There's a slightly gamey flavor to it, but nowhere near as gamey as deer. It's nothing crazy if you're on the fence about trying bison. Do it! Be daring! :) This 8 oz bison comes with caramelized onions and blue cheese and their house steak sauce. Bison meatloaf: The bison was good but not amazing per the hubs. He enjoys meatloaf so why not bison meatloaf. Even with all the sauce, you can still distinguish the bison. And it went so well with the garlic [mashed] potatoes; the chantilly potatoes were crazy good. The asparagus were so so. Caramelized onions: These were incidentally added instead of a substitution. They're caramelized onions, and these are no exception. Meaning they were okay. It's not like there were gold flakes or anything making it special. But we were charged $3 for it though. :( This little restaurant is quite busy without a reservation around dinner time. The wait time wasn't too terrible at approximately 20 mins of a wait time. The meats were all cooked well. The bison tenderloin was definitely the best but even the elk and the flat iron steak were fantastic. Vegetables were a tad undercooked, so overall had more of a crunch than we like them. I had the huckleberry burger (the only dish I didn't take a photo of...) and it was actually solid. The two main disappointments were the au poivre sauce on the elk and the salad. The sauce tasted like straight up just alcohol and ruined the beautiful elk. For the salad, there was an overload of goat cheese and not enough dressing - and one of my pet peeves is a salad doused in dressing so the fact that I wanted more dressing has pretty much never happened to me before. This place is busy (even in the off season) but the food is worth the wait! Elevated bar and large group dining atmosphere. My husband is a burger snob and his devoured his burger within minutes. We saw a lot of Bison at Yellowstone. So my natural thought was, "I want to eat you." The wife's Bison Burger I've had bison before, but it's been so long I wasn't sure if it was a memory or just a very vivid meat dream. It was most likely at Ted's Montana Grill. I don't particularly seek bison meat on a regular basis. Think beef, but with a gamey glint in its like it once roamed free. Bison Meatloaf I thought it was good, not mind-blowing, but you could still taste the bison under all that sauce. I've also never had mind blowing meatloaf so there's that. The garlic mashed (or as they call them, chantilly potatoes, because apparently potatoes got fancy) were also great. The asparagus? Meh. We didn't have a reservation, but the 20-minute wait was manageable. Luckily, there's a brewery nearby for a pre-dinner pint, which makes time pass faster. Would I come here again? Maybe. If you saw a bison in the Yellowstone National Park and want to try it, this restaurant has a great selection. No local fish though. The bar area is way bigger than the restaurant. We've been wanting over a half hour to get it(4 people, Thursday night 7:30) Chef recommends "bison tenderloin" medium rare , and the server asked me how I would like it cooked. We put our name on the wait list and was told 30 minutes. In the meantime, we went across the way to have a beer and cocktail. The huckleberry lemonade was dangerously refreshing. About 25 minutes enjoying my beverage, our table was ready. Water was already waiting for us and our server promptly greeted us. I ordered the spinach strawberry salad and trout cakes. The salad didn't live up to my expectations due to the dressing that should be addressed. I thought it was too citrusy and overtook the plate. Unsure if the trout cakes are fresh or frozen. Looking at the menu before we got here we thought it was a little pricey but decided to go for it, and we were definitely glad we did, worth every penny! Ice cold waters served all around and had a very large glass of water already on the table so you could refill yourself (big plus to me.) Wife started with a glass of red wine, Argentina Malbec ($15), and loved it. I got the 1910 Old Fashioned ($15) and it was killer, it was strong, heavy poured but balanced. Wife got the Bison meatloaf ($27) and it was moist and flavorful! It came with mashed potatoes and green beans, which were cooked very well. Our five year old got the kids chicken ($10), which is a seasoned chicken breast, mashed potatoes and green beans. He can be decently picky at times, I mean he's five, but he loved everything. I ordered the ribeye steak ($47), rare-medium rare. It came with a blue cheese compound butter, roasted carrots, and smoked Gouda au gratin potatoes. It was amazing, the steak was cooked perfect, as was everything else. I haven't had a steak that good in quite some time! Wife and I also shared a Caesar salad ($9) it was darn good with made in house croutons. Our server was very attentive and she was very polite. We were lucky enough to get right in, but it did fill up and people were having to wait a few minutes. Inside decor was nice, guess this used to be a schoolhouse in a previous life. I had a bison burger and steak fries. Bison was good and juicy ( cooked to medium). I am not a big fan of steak fries, but these weren't bad considering they attempted to put some seasoning on it, just a wee bit oily. Momma had a ravioli creamy pesto salad and had prawns added to the mix. She was very pleased with this concoction. They do have a full service bar, if you like that addition to your meal. Decent food. They're owned by the same person as the Yellowstone Brewery next door. So you can hang out over there while you wait for your table. They have pool tables upstairs and video gambling downstairs. Once your table is ready, you can bring your drinks with you from the brewery. If you're willing to dine at the restaurant bar counter, then you'll be seated much faster. The Caesar salad was good. The lobster bisque was gritty and could have been blended more, but it had a nice taste, although it was fairly runny, not that thick. It makes me wonder if they used heavy cream in it as they should have. The Bison Meatloaf was good. Nice and light and not gamey at all. However it was a bit cold, even though it arrived on a hot plate. So we asked them to warm it up. The mashed potatoes were great. The carrots were good. The Ribeye steak with horseradish potatoes au-gratin was good. I wish there was seasoning seared into the steak. But it comes with cowboy butter which seems to be like a tomato butter. You really taste the horseradish in the potatoes so be prepared for that. The broccoli was flavor with something mixed into it, but it was somewhat raw, not even el dente. Madison crossing lounge is a must whether you are staying in town or just passing through. The staff is wonderfully efficient and kind. My party was seating almost immediately, though do keep in mind this is a first come first serve. Though reservations are not part of their routine, that have great management regarding who is leaving and arriving. The food was delicious, fresh, and just really hit the spot after a long day in the park. I highly recommend starting with the peach arugula flatbread. The flavors were so fantastic. Everything you'd want on a flatbread and it's so light. The herb infused olive oil brought everything together. The peaches were tangy and sweet. There was a nice bit and nuttiness with the arugula and pine nuts. And the burrata cheese was a very nice creamy touch. Only one slice of photographed because we ate this appetizer so fast. Entrees were the bison meatloaf and bison filet. The meat loaf is beautiful! Tender, flavorful, and that good home cooked meal flair that everyone loves. I subbed the mash for red potatoes. And a little word of advice, ask for a side of ranch. The ranch is very light, perhaps made in house. The ranch is a very nice compliment to the meatloaf and potatoes. The bison filet was tender and really had the chef really let that natural flavors of the bison shine through. The broccoli was sautéed with what tasted like garlic and red wine vinaigrette. If you are a red meat lover, this dish is for you. You would absolutely appreciate the flavor. For desert we ordered the tiramisu and blood orange sorbet. The sorbets do change out so just ask your waiter the current flavor. The tiramisu was a delight. The cream was thick and fluffy. The lady fingers were perfectly soaked and the coco dust was a little richer than traditional which I really prefer. I order a cup of mint chocolate tea to rest. A local resident recommended Madison Crossing Lounge and for good reason. The dining room was nicely decorated with some beautiful art pieces, which were priced for sale. We were seated at a high top table next to the window which gave us a view of the town. We ordered rainbow trout and a Caesar salad. Then it was downhill. You could not taste the huckleberry at all on the Huckleberry Burger. The cream in the lobster bisque was curdled and it was not hot. The fries were a little soggy.
