The store's striking brutalist concrete architecture is the perfect stage for the latest fashions and curated vintage pieces showcased inside. I've always been so impressed by the service at this Maxfield location. You are greeted at the door and the sales people do eye you up and down to see what you're wearing and your personal style but they are courteous and trying to help you find what you're looking for or what brands you like. Luis Rodriguez helped me and my friend this last visit and he is simply outstanding. Such a great eye for detail and so knowledgeable and passionate about Maxfield and everything they have in the store. Really helpful, and he made my friend's visit to the store special and he loved his purchases. This store has always been extremely cool and cutting edge and brought the work of so many new designers to LA. The avant garde design tradition has continued with their installation of a Jean Prouvé 1957 pre-fabricated "Structure Nomade" which was brought from France and reconstructed next to the store at 8825 Melrose, with a 100 year old olive tree planted next to it. They showcase stunning fashion and art installations inside its glass walls. Maxfield also has a dramatically designed Chrome Hearts store (by appointment only) next door on Robertson. You can inquire about it in this store. Maxfield is like a modern art museum with the statues outside, the stark angular concrete walls, the single large display window facing Melrose, the beautiful and dramatic lighting at night and the way everything is exhibited inside. It's definitely a must see in Los Angeles and there's nothing else like it. Items can be very expensive but they also have a fabulous sale at the end of each season that shouldn't be missed.

Clothing was sorted by size, making it easy to browse and find items quickly. I don't think this was Eclipse's fault, but it seemed like PopFlex rotated merchandise throughout the week-long sale. My friend visited the day after I did and found skirts and swimwear, whereas my shopping day featured mostly black leggings, onesies, sherpa jackets, and denim jeans. Keep in mind is that you'll want to shop efficiently because the checkout line moved quite slowly. There were only two cashiers working, which created a bottleneck once people were ready to purchase. I ended up buying four items and there is additional discounts offered when you purchased 8+ pieces so my cousin and I combined our pieces. As for parking, the event advertised that the first two hours were free at 123 S. Robertson Blvd, but I was definitely charged by the hour. Overall it was still good to check out the sample sale. If I lived closer, I probably would have returned for another visit, but the drive out to West Hollywood is a bit of a trek for me.

"well... why not." Because let's be clear, nobody is standing in that line by accident. At first glance you think something important must be happening, like maybe Dua Lipa is inside casually trying on a $10,000 coat, but then logic kicks in and you realize if Dua Lipa were actually in there, the store would be shut down tighter than a private jet hangar and none of us would even be allowed within eyesight of the door. So no... it's not about who's inside. It's about the fact that standing outside The Row has somehow become its own moment. People are lining up to enter what looks like the most understated, almost aggressively quiet storefront you've ever seen, and the irony is that the less it tries, the more everyone else tries around it. There's something very LA about a place that doesn't scream for attention but still manages to pull a full line of people who are very aware of exactly where they are and exactly how they look while being there.
