I had the pleasure of coming to Loft 26 after Stacey and Loren donated their beauty expertise as a fundraising prize for Sean Casey Animal Rescue. I was a little nervous at first. Both Stacey and Loren listened to my requests plus provided education on haircare, style and upkeep. My hair had a lot damage. Stacey was able to give a beautiful cut without cutting off a lot of length. I had 4 inches of dark growth, Loren was able to match the color and provide evenly spaced highlights and I had a beautiful result. Wanted to go brown. Over a period of 2 days and 8 hours Leo turned me blonde and then black again. I was in tears by the end of the entire ordeal having felt like I was held hostage there only to leave with absolutely NOTHING DONE! Leo then catches the only diva attitude and barks at me "I don't do tears. I tried my best okay?! Sorry!" And walks away from me. Completely unprofessional and embarrassing that you're a 40yr old stylist/colorist and it took you 2 days and 8 hrs and u still couldn't get black to brown!!? I could've bought a box at Duane Reade and had better results. Truly traumatizing experience since my hair is now thoroughly damaged and streaky with...I don't even know how to describe this color. Going to the salon is something everyone woman loves to do, but for me i look forward to it all month! I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Stacey and Loren for almost four years now. Stacey always takes the time to figure out how to get the most out of my hair and help me find a style that slows the thinning of my hair that also shapes my face. I I purchased a groupon last summer, with Loft 26 for a Keratin Hair Treatment. They are nearly impossible to deal with. When you call they immediately ask if you have a groupon, what's funny is that when I said I wanted to book an appointment for Thursday they were so nice until they asked if I had a groupon--then it was 'WELLLLL, we only do those on Tuesday, Friday nights and Saturdays'...then were completed booked up for several weeks. This was NOT explained when I purchased the groupon and I told them that, and they said, 'well, it wouldn't be because we changed the rules'. That doesn't work for me--do what you promised and don't change the rules after the fact. I'd much rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

First off, let me say that I purcahsed a Phyto deep conditioning treatment from Groupon (please do another deal like that soon!!) The acutal building the salon is in is kind of old and ugly looking in the lobby but when you get off the elevator and go up to the salon area its really lovely, a genuine loft space, open, airy and the decor is really ecofriendly. The receptionist was really friendly and showed me to the coat closet. I sat down and only waited about 3 mins unitl (Ron - I think that was his name) came to get me to start me treatment. Well, let me tell you this guy knew his Phyto prodcuts inside and out (I had been to phyto universe so I know!). He proceeded to give me the best deep conditioning treatment I ever had and was so great and we had a great convo too. The staff was exteremely accomadating, asking me a few times if I wanted anything while I waited. The floors were clean, no hair, like another reviewer had stated. While I was under the dryer, Shane the colorist next to my station was finishing up a client and she ended up with the most beautiful blonde hair, the kind I always wanted but could never achieve, sigh. I will def be making an appt with him soon. I also got the best blowout too, lasted almost a week, which for me is alot!!! Lucky me I got two groupons, so get to go here again! Their price menu is a bit pricey but at least you know you are getting good service. Oh! Also, just have to mention, their sinks are to die for, I would go for those alone, its like a sink bed, so comfy, I have never seen them before. Lifebooker appointment attempt number two... Enter Loft 26. A $150 Keratin treatment during lunchtime (1:30) on a Tuesday? Sure! That works... I made the appointment at 9:30am but got a call at noon informing me they'd scheduled someone for the time I reserved on the site. They were able to squeeze me in at 4:15 the same day so I took it. Inconvenience? Slight, yes, but not a total disappointment. The treatment itself was great...Only 90min and included shampoo, blow dry, keratin application, sit/soak-in time, blow dry, and flatiron. No muss, no fuss, and my hair looks great. The staff was helpful and friendly. Aside from a scheduling snafu here, I've got no complaints. read more

Glamorous hair stylist Dino did a magical transformation of my dull, lifeless hair. A few expertly placed highlights brightened up my face, and with seemingly effortless precision, he gave some lift and body to my grown out layers. What I like about him as a stylist is that he will listen carefully to what you want and then make it work, and he has a good welcoming energy. I followed my lovely stylist , Chloe, here from another salon. This is a gorgeous space , all light and airy and calm and Chloe is still the best hairdresser I have found in NYC, she makes you feel part of the process as if you are co-conspirators in your haircut. I highly recommend Chloe and I am sure that all the stylists here are good, everyone leaving looked delighted with their hair. Tried this place out for the first time.......AMAZING!!!! ABSOLUTELY couldn't be HAPPIER! This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write about an experience at a salon because Angela at Loft 26 Salon was incredible. The salon itself has a super trendy vibe with a comfy and lovely ambiance. Angela is an incredibly talented and almost organic hairstylist. I went to her to chop my hair about 6 inches. I showed her pictures and she counseled me through what would be the best suited hair cut for me. She really gave me a haircut that makes me feel confident and shine! She listened to my needs AND gave me her professional eye that brought the BEST hairstyle out of my type of sometimes-unmanageable-curly hair. She was sweet-natured, very easy to talk to, and a confident and uplifting hairdresser. I have been here several times now for the keratin hair treatment, and have always been very happy with the service and the treatment. Kaileen who does my treatments is great - friendly and professional. The salon itself is a large loft like space and is really nice and clean, and zen like. I originally bought the treatment thru Groupon, and have been going back since without any groupons or deals. They only do the keratin treatment certain days of the week, and can book up quickly specially in the summer, but if you schedule in advance, it works great. read more

I moved to NYC a little over a year ago and had trouble finding a colorist and stylist that were not outrageously expensive and/or good. Problem solved! Emily and Loren are outstanding! I have finally found my NYC hair people. Emily has given me the best haircuts of my life twice now. She is so sweet and has given me some great tips for making my hair healthier. Loren did an amazing job with my color and has a secret oil treatment that does wonders for damage bleach does to hair over time. The salon loft space is great....warm and comfortable. They sell great hair products - Oribe - but are not at all pushy about selling them. Highly recommend the salon to anyone and everyone! read more

First off, I am suspicious of the reviews on here - if you look at the profiles of the reviewers, most have only a few reviews...makes me wonder if the owner at Loft 26 paid his friends / family to start Yelp accounts and write this place a bunch of 5 star reviews. As a legit customer with a Lifebooker deal, let me give this place an honest review. The space is nice and decorated well, but they don't have the staff to keep it clean. There was hair ALL over the wooden floors, and I actually asked to have it cleaned off the floor before I stepped in it - the stylist was sitting me down in a chair where the floor was covered in hair. She didn't wash her hands from the last customer to me, which I politely had to remind her to do. The shampoo was mediocre, and they had me just lying with my head in the sink for about 15 min before someone got to me - very uncomfortable to just be waiting there like that. Again, the shampoo girl apologized and said she was the only one washing hair that day - maybe they are understaffed? Things were overall disorganized, running late, and there were only a handful of customers in the salon (on a Sat afternoon). The cut and style itself was mediocre - not horrifying, but after drying, I noticed one side was longer than the other, so to make everything even, she had to cut off another 1/2 inch - I was not happy :(. My stylist was nice enough and trying to do a good job, but overall, this place disappointed big time. Definitely will not be back, especially with all the other choices in this City! read more

If I didn't already have a yelp account, I would create one to review Shane. Shane is such a great colorist and did exactly what I asked for. I had seen a girl with that ombre hair trend (balayage) and she told me who did it, but I stupidly tried out another salon... I went to Shane and he fixed the mess I had and I love my new do :) I'll definitely be going back. He's so nice too! The salon itself is well kept too. So I got a deal on lifebooker for extensions. Everytime I called to make a appointment no one ever answered the phone and there was no voicemail for over a week. Then I got in touch with lifebooker who contacted the salon. The salon got in touch with me and apologized, I made a appointment for a consult. I had recently been ill and due to my treatment my hair had started to fall out rapidly. Angie was my stylist matched my hair to the pieces they had and said since my hair is black they would have to order it in. She was very sweet. One week went by no call, a second week ... Nothing then finally on the third week I gave them a call they said oh the hair will come in by the end of the week. They called when it did arrive and we booked a appointment. I went in for my appointment and while Angie was very sweet I noticed the extensions were a dark golden brown, I voiced my concern she said don't worry it will blend in. After two hours my hair was done and it looked great, just the way it used to be, I was thrilled. But I noticed in the mirror that day I noticed the dark brown and I work in broadcast media and we were shooting something and the girl who did my make up noticed it as well. So I called the salon, they said to come back in. Did I mention at this point 2 pieces of the extensions had already fallen out. By the time I went in for my appointment 4 pieces had already fallen out... In less than one week. Angie tried using a tonic on my hair, but the extensions didn't really darken. She told me to come back in on Sunday so she could fix the extensions that had begun falling( mind you this was Friday ). I went in on Sunday, another two pieces had already fallen out. She put in 8 more pieces and was extra careful to make the bonds tighter. Yes it was nice of her to redo them but if she had done them right the first time I would not have to keep coming in. Then the receptionist made a comment basically referring to my complaint about the hair color not being the same first by asking : do you color your hair? I said no never, then well it's more of a soft jet black... At this point I'm thinking yes but that color is still very different from dark brown, my complaint is valid. Two months later I to have them removed because thankfully my hair has started growing back in very fast. Angie had to put in a lot of the oil to remove the extensions. She then proceeded to wash and blow dry my hair then said I needed a trim it had grown a lot. After I was ready to go, she said she would get me a discount. I go to pay, my haircut was $80 and I was surprised because it was a quick trim and bangs and I thought I was getting a discount. Apparently the discount was not to charge me for removing the extensions they had put in two months prior. She charged me for the wash ( keep in mind my hair was already washed when I went in) to remove the oil from the product to remove the extensions and the cut. I paid it but was not happy. I spoke to a stylist friend of mine who said it was industry standard to remove the extensions for free if they put it in and I should not have gotten charged for the wash since they made my hair oily. Only for the cut. So overall with the problem for getting a appointment, waiting three weeks for my extensions to come in which were the wrong color /extensions falling out and overcharging me at the end, I will never be going back here or recommending this place. It is a great location and the loft is beautiful though. It really is too bad all this because I really thought they would have become my go to salon and would have recommended them for my upcoming shoots. read more

My colorist is great but the proprietor is not. She was neither enforcing the mask mandate nor having anyone check for proof of vaccination. Today was the busiest I've ever seen the salon -- social distancing wasn't possible, and I was very uncomfortable by their lack of enforcement of either the mandate OR the proof of vaccine policy (a small sign on the door said 'be prepared to show proof of vaccination' but none of the at least 20 people who entered while I was there were asked to show proof, nor was I. The honor system does not work in this case). In fact the proprietor was downright rude about the issue when I asked about it. I personally know 5 unrelated fully vaccinated and boostered people who have tested positive this week (between the ages of 18 and 50). If we don't all work together to prevent the spread it will only be a matter of time before everything is shut down again. This is the first time I've ever posted a negative review about any business but it was a disturbing experience. read more

I bought a deal on lifebooker for hair extensions at Loft 26. They were really great, and the girl who did my extensions even came in earlier to do them because of my schedule. I hate long reviews but I will say everyone was great and the place is really nice but if you're going there for hair extensions....READ MY REVIEW! The experience has not been great. First, the girl had left over hair and said that another person probably left extra hair but when I searched online, it said a full head of extensions called for 100 pieces of hair, which is half of what she put in my hair. At first, she said I could keep the hair and then she changed her mind and said they would call me to let me know what had happened. I waited 2 weeks until I finally called because no one contacted me. When it comes to something as expensive as extensions, I feel like its important to let the customer know what is going on. Also, I'm not crazy about the hair and within 2 weeks, the extensions were literally falling off. Almost every time I brush my hair some strands are longer than the others because the extensions are sliding off my hair. And, I have only had them for a month. My manicure lasted longer than the extensions. It may only be my experience but if you're going to pay regular price or even the discounted $400, be careful! read more

Utterly Underwhelming I was desperate for a decent haircut near my office (West 20s) and Loft 26 seemed to fit the bill. Including tax and tip, I walked out $100 poorer with a very basic trim. For the service I got, I should have just gone to SuperCuts. Don't get me wrong, I had asked for a simple hair cut, but the salon shouldn't be charging upwards of $80 for a junior stylist to cut hair. The salon has absolutely no style -- the staff dressed poorly, didn't smile, and didn't exude any sort of fabulous vibe that mid- to high-priced Manhattan salons are expected to generate. The space was hardly decorated -- it really seemed like the kind of place where a stylist rents a chair for a few hours a week. The hair washing area and shampoo assistant were both odd and the overall unfriendliness was pretty appalling. That said, I got the trim I set out to get but would never return. There are just too many superior salons in NYC that charge the same prices but also provide a cheery, fashion-forward environment and employ cutting-edge, personable staff. I feel like I dodged a bullet because this place also does wedding hair and makeup and was on my shortlist for my trial. I'm glad I now know not to shell out "test run" cash at this place. read more

This is a great salon and I loved my stylist John Gerard! The moment he touched my hair, he said that he needed to cut it dry. He knew exactly what he was talking about - always confident, but also sensitive to my requests. (Kind of like the ideal boyfriend, eh?) I trusted him, and the result was great. Love the Loft and all it's staff! I'm so glad I found a hair haven in NYC. All the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great, and everyone walks out gorgeous. It's been almost 2 years that I regularly go to Kayleen for Pravana straightening, and Leo for hair color. They are both magicians at what they do. - Always available and so accommodating when I text them for an appt. - Both so professional and knowledgable. - Super patient, even when i'm ridiculously indecisive about what treatment to do. - Fun and friendly, I look forward to seeing them and catching up. The Pravana with Kayleen has come out great every time, and it's nice to have a more natural solution to the Keratin. You can't smell any chemical sent like with the Keratin. My hair color with Leo has always been amazing! It comes out the most gorgeous brown, with shine, and complements for the next few months. He even suggested I go a little brown-red...which I was hesitant about at first, but I knew he works magic, and was so glad I tried. He was right, and the color was great. I couldn't articulate what I wanted to do with my hair exactly, but that the color wasn't how I wanted it to look.
