My wife had a fever over 100° and was explicitly instructed by her doctor not to come into the office because they were concerned it could be the highly contagious flu going around right now. We contacted the salon immediately to explain the situation. Despite this, the receptionist told us they would not cancel the appointment and that my wife would be charged the full price if she didn't come in. Under no circumstances should a salon prioritize a cancellation fee over the health and safety of its clients and staff. What made this even worse was their suggestion that she should "just come in wearing a mask" and that the stylist would wear one too. That is not a solution. It is reckless, irresponsible, and puts everyone at risk. Encouraging a visibly ill client to come into a confined space is incredibly dangerous for my wife, other customers, and the employees who work there every day. Basic compassion and common sense were completely absent from this interaction. Kindness and humanity go a long way. This salon showed neither. This is absolutely no way to treat people. I went to Katherine for my first time getting my hair cut in nyc and showed her my inspo pics and she proceeded to give her advice that I did not ask for. She was demeaning and condescending, saying that I didn't have a good face for the cut I wanted, which was a big change that I was already nervous about. Then she proceeded to try to convince me not to do it saying that it would look bad on me. When she finally agreed, she still didn't do what I had asked for so I had to ask her to cut more off, to which she harshly told me that I only have an hour and she can't spend that much time on my hair. Do people usually enjoy every single second of their hair appointment? Because I definitely did. This was my first time at this location and Joey went above and beyond for me. Not only did he give me exactly what I asked for, but he also gave me tips on how to enhance my appearance (I asked for magenta and he even added in orchid and highlights to frame my face). The wash process was SO relaxing, I felt like I was in a spa. The little massage you get as they wash your hair sends tingles down your spine. Robert is amazing! I had highlights done by another salon (not shampoo avenue B) that I was really upset with. I wanted to tone them down and showed him what I wanted. Thankfully he was able to fix my poorly done highlights from the other salon and gave me the exact color I wanted with the gloss. I've been going to Joey for the past 2 years and have consistently gone to him for cuts back from when he was at the East Village location. Even before I've met him, I had gone to Shampoo Avenue B with other stylists and have always come back here excited because of the quality of their cuts, the service, the professionalism, the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that you CANNOT get anywhere else. I've fallen victim to the "$20 hair cut steals" from small businesses in Chinatown, in Queens, you name it. Sometimes I fell lucky and got a decent cut but never found myself wanting to go back or feeling that my experience there was unparalleled. It's completely different with Shampoo Avenue B, at this West Village location or at the East Village location. Either location, both of which have such a great selection and curation of stylists and true craftsmen, will make you feeling like any other cut or place will never match up to a Shampoo Avenue B experience. I've never just liked the cuts, or felt okay about my experience here. I've always LOVED each cut and each experience truly makes me feel excited to come back for a touch up.
