A significant portion of my family (9 of us) had an early dinner at the Log Cabin Barbecue. We arrived shortly after 4:00 on a Saturday. Even with our group size we were promptly seated. Overall the restaurant is quite inviting even if it isn't much to look at from the outside. Our waitress was fantastic. Friendly and attentive! I had the BBQ Beef with fries and hush puppies. I enjoyed my meal, I just wish there was more meat. Everyone in our group devoured their meals. I had one of the ribs my wife ordered and there was a lot of meat on the bone/very tasty. I would definitely recommend the Log Cabin Barbecue. A+ service, and tasty food. Definitely a must visit in the Shenandoah Region.

It's not bad, but it's not worth the price and if I didn't check my To Go order before I left I would've made it home with no dinner rolls and no coleslaw lol

I love the Log Cabin Barbecue! I love the warm and inviting decor of the dining room and the music that they play. I have been eating here for the past 20 years. The service has always been impeccable! The food always comes out fast , hot and delicious! It is always consistently good. My favorite is the North Carolina pulled pork bbq sandwich with their yummy potato salad that is savory rather than sweet. I have had their brisket and many of their sides. It's all very good. Unfortunately, I did not come here for several years because of all the family drama. The original Log cabin was supposedly sold to family relatives. I ate at the Log Cabin food truck one day in Harrisonburg and the woman bad mouthed the new family owners of the Log Cabin in Elkton. She said terrible things about the food, etc. I am so glad I decided to try it again. The food is just how I remember it! Delicious!! This is a local favorite spot that does a tremendous amount of business in ToGo orders. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

This is a great little place! Nice and cozy place to get delicious barbecue. We tried the rib, smoked sausage, and original pulled pork and all of it was great. The baked beans were delicious as well. We had the best server, she seemed genuinely interested in serving us and making our visit pleasurable.

Consistently good. Keeps us coming back. This is our 4th time vacationing in the area, and our 4th time the family demanded we eat here. And you know what? The plasticware & disposable plates makes you feel more at ease in this Covid crazy time we are living in. Just dang good BBQ here. And awesome icecream. Eat, enjoy, go. Great for takeout too.

I'm not sure what happened, but the beloved Log Cabin BBQ is now called the 1835 Smokehouse-- at least temporarily it sounds like. But not to freight, we can confirm that it's just as good! The inside is clean and looks newly updated. The menu has everything from appetizers, to salads, to the main event, barbecue! Our table started with the fried pickles and smokehouse pork fries. Our server let us know ahead of time that their fried pickles are a little peculiar-- instead of chips or spears, they're more like actual fries. But sooo good! The cheese fries were also a huge hit. We all got sandwiches of some sort-- either the South Carolina or North Carolina. The SC came with a mustard-based sauce which had some tang to it. We also received extra on the side. The sides we got like the potato salad and hushpuppies were good, though we didn't care much for the coleslaw. Might be personal preference! All in all, a trip to Massanutten is not complete without a trip down the hill to the best barbecue place in the area!! Definitely worth a try!

Two of us enjoyed the tomato-based BBQ sandwich and one of us found the mustard-based BBQ to be very good (although in sharing a bit, not everyone liked the latter). The sandwich rolls got a bit soggy so two of us just ate the pulled pork inside. Very friendly service. The name of this establishment seems now to be The 1835 Smokehouse.

You know it isn't authentic bbq when you can't smell smoke anywhere. Although the staff were nice, they were just kids with good manners. Bbq pork and beef seemed pre made along with the add on sides. Don't let the name fool you, it isn't real bbq. Texans and those with higher standards beware.

Greeting my fellow Yelper's! So ended up coming to this restaurant with members of my church and it turned out to be pretty good. The only hiccup some of us ran into was when our waiter brought us something entirely different from what we had originally ordered and did. It tell us. Therefore, I highly encourage everyone to advise the young waiters at this place to let their guest know ahead of time, what's available to eat and what's not? That way there is no confusion when ordering. Especially on the sampler platter. I was under the impression that it was supposed to serve 3 meats when in reality, it was only a total of two. Other than that the ribs and beef brisket was nicely smothered in a smoke finish. As I like to say, "Not too shabby." ‍

We got both types of BBQ, the North Carolina pork BBQ sandwich with Mac and cheese and the original pork BBQ sandwich with fries and a side of half (6) hush puppies. The prices were very reasonable, the service was good and the food was delicious. The NC BBQ reminded us more of Smithfield BBQ but was still good. The original BBQ kinda tasted like the sloppy joe flavors but was also good. The hush puppies were the best. Even thought about getting some to go. Both sides (Mac and cheese & fries) were pretty standard, nothing to call home about.

Looking over the menu for the first time I kept telling my wife "that sounds good" then only a moment later I would say it again then again. After careful consideration I went with the sample platter. Ribs, brisket, & pulled pork. Chose the cheesy cornbread with honey butter and the baked beans. It was large enough to split with my gal. She took less than I and she still couldn't finish it all. Loved every bit of the meats. A beautiful smoke ring on all of it. They know their business around the smoker. The cornbread was delicious but I didn't fully care for the baked beans. They were a bit tangy and lacked the smoked meat in them that I've come to expect. The prices were reasonable and the place was very clean. Will be back when we return to the area. Enjoy it.

We got there around 5:30pm on a weeknight and within a few minutes many other tables also seated. The waitress was super helpful explaining the items and telling us about the bakery downstairs that makes the buns and cornbread fresh. I was in a group of five women, the person that liked her food the most got the salmon. Several folks got burgers, one got chicken patty with fries, coleslaw, macaroni, cornbread,, and I got the bbq sampler. They had four homemade bbq sauce at the table, original, a mustard variety, a Carolina variety, and a bourbon sweet variety. None of them spicy, not a fan, at best used the original bbq sauce. The brisket was super tender and delicious, recommended. The pulled pork was a generous serving but a bit dry, needed the sauce, I took half mine home to eat later with more bbq sauce. I thought I ordered naked ribs but they came out blackened in a rub, I went ahead and tried them, a bit dry but okay. Would not get the dry rub again. Two of us got the cornbread loaf side, I thought it was okay with the honey butter, my friend thought it was way too dry. I ate about half and took it home with more of the honey butter. One person got the seasoned fries and shared them, they were okay, generous portion size, she was trying to eat them with mayo, was also drying with the powdered topping and very salty. We were on a dry theme with many dishes! Most people with burgers ate around their buns. Due to the sad selection of hot sauces and meh 2/3 items on sampler and average cornbread, leaning towards and average review. We had hiked all day at Shenandoah National Park and very hungry when we arrived but quickly flipped from enthusiastic to disappointed. Service was good, atmosphere was good, but didn't enjoy the food as much. Maybe eat there if nearby, good for quickly seating groups, lots of meat options.

I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic. But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Definitely a good place to pop in for a quick lunch, get snackies to go, or even grab a bunch of bagels and sides for a party or meeting.
