After regularly visiting Lokahi for more than two years, the owner decided not to welcome our dear Ewok-Shitzu back. As the caretaker for the dog, I observed a shift in the quality of hair cutting as the owner became annoyed with the dog. The timing was unfortunate because her owner was diagnosed with a terminal illness when I took over caring for this dog, including salon visits. The cancellation left the family in a particularly bad spot as the Shitzu's hair grew out and impacted her quality of life. After a stressful appointment for my Naira at another Honolulu grooming business, I decided to try out Lokahi Dog Grooming. Communication with the business is through text (Yuka). They are extremely busy with limited days, so an immediate appointment is very hard to come by. But, once you do have an appointment, you won't be disappointed. My Naira is a senior husky, and the Lokahi grooming team gave her just the TLC she needed. Via text, I told Yuka of our last grooming situation, and that Naira would need breaks to decompress. When I arrived with Naira, Yuka's team was warm and excited to meet Naira. We talked about the grooming and the extras she needed. Even tho the intake area was small, they allowed me to stay and watch while Suzanne and another groomer worked on Naira's nails. They were gentle with her, talked to her, and let her walk around the facility when done. My girl had a happy face, so I was sure she was in the best hands. 4 hours later, she was de-shedded, clean, and gorgeous. Even better, she was happy. I came in to find her walking around with bright eyes and her big Naira smile. When leaving, they told me to let them know if Naira had a reaction due to any stress felt, and they would try something new on our next visit. It's not easy finding a groomer that you like. Some may think this biased because I went to school with Chika but honestly when it comes to your dog you want the best service, quality, and care. Chika is awesome! Gus went in scared as heck, but left loving Chika! Majority of the time I will actually trim his hair but since it's become so difficult to cut his nails it was time to take him to a professional. I couldn't be more satisfied with what I had asked for of Chika in how I wanted Gus to look. It makes me feel so good to know that he didn't give her any trouble after I left, since I left feeling so bad with him sitting on the table shaking (trembling). read more

Went for full groom service. With tip, I paid about $83. I don't know how other salons cost so not too sure if the price is expensive or moderate. I liked the result and the groomer was really nice. It took about hour and half? Which I thought it wasn't too long. My dog doesn't like getting hair cuts so I only try to do it two times in a year. Also, my dog doesn't like her face being touched but the groomer was able to cut her face hair without stressing her out. My dog was pretty happy right afterwards when I went pick her up. I have nothing but good things to say about Lokahi Dog Grooming. My golden retriever Ehu doesn't generally like going to the groomer, but Chika makes her feel at ease. You can tell how much Chika and Yuka love their jobs and love dogs. I completely trust them to take care of my baby. Ehu always comes out looking adorable and soft as velvet. Yuka did an awesome job with our Lhasa Apso puppy! He is a squirmy little guy but she was able to trim his face teddy bear style. Yuka also cut our puppy's nails perfectly!! They seemed to be filed or dremeled as they weren't sharp and scratchy when we picked him up (like at other groomers). She was quick and I really felt like I was leaving him in good hands! Aloha! My dogs name is Hibiki and he's a Shih Tzu/Terrier at 1 years old. I took him here based on reviews and availability. I'm so glad to have found gold amongst all the other grooming shops out there. Yuka worked wonders on my dog! I always wanted to groom my shih tzu to be in a long coat, but I also want to take him to the beach, I mean this is Hawaii and who doesn't want to take there pup to see and play in the ocean. But I hadn't realize how difficult it'll be to maintain a long fluffy double coat if you always take your him to the beach. So, I decided a short coat would be better. But, if you looked at the photo I uploaded, he was sooo cute all fluffy and I was wary that a short coat wouldn't work...thanks to Yuka, however, what came from under his fluff was a handsome, well-groomed little boy! She did the works on him; ears, nails, trim, bath, etc. I'll probably give the therapeutic option a shot next time. Never used essential oils on my dog, so would like to see how well he does with it. She is also very courteous, she let me know that she would need to take longer (cause of the mattes *cough* *cough*) and then texted again when ready. I'm so glad she took the time on him and not rushed it. Additional good things to note that many other reviewers have mentioned; is that she is ATTENTIVE, KIND, and REASSURING. I felt the moment I was welcomed by her and her interaction with my dog that he would be in good hands. She helped us in the beginning; observing him, feeling his fur and letting us know what she can do. I wanted a butterfly cut, but with his mattes, was just wondering if that could be done. She gave us multiple fur options and explained each one and help answer all of our questions. Being a new fur mommy, I wanted the best for my baby. So, initially, I was terrified. I only know of one other good place for grooming after trying a few, so taking him to another, I was worried. But thanks to this sparking gem of a groomer, Yuka, I found another great place!!! I felt my dog was professionally handled, and his cut absolutely adorable. Sad part is that she doesn't have a place of her own, and is sharing the space from the Honolulu Dog Spa. I wish her luck on having her own shop. (Come to leeward side XD were in need of good groomers down here)...( yes, I travelled all the way to town just for her, and I would do it again!!!) This owner took the time to respond to my text about a situation with my neighbors dog and helped me with information that I needed to get the correct info to the vet. Even after hours she has taken the the time to make sure that the situation was under control and after calling and leaving several messages with all businesses with no response, she responded in a timely manner, and offered free expertise dealing with fleas. My neighbor is in her late 70's and her fur baby is 15 years old... I appreciate her responding, giving me advise and assisting me with what to ask the vet. I couldn't be any happier with my baby Tofu! As my pups one year birthday was approaching, i figured it would be obligatory to give her a first haircut. Like all wonderful pet owners, you're pretty nervous about where you bring your pet for the first time, so of course I searched around. Lokahi Dog Grooming exceeded my expectations in all categories - from their friendly service, to their promptness, and even price! I brought Tofu in around 9AM for our scheduled appointment and was greeted by Yuka, one of the dog groomers. Chika would be grooming my dog, but Yuka was just as inviting! She said it would take about 2 1/2 hours for Tofu's haircut to be complete, and they committed to that time! I picked her up around 12 and was so shocked at how friendly the staff were towards her. Very Friendly groomer by the name of Yuka who is very informational and assuring that my pup is going to be okay regardless of his fearful behavior. Yuka is also understanding and listens attentively, also answers all the questions I have. Price is reasonable with the amount of things included for a basic groom. I am a new client and will be returning. I am happy with the result with my dog clean, smelling fresh with trimmed nails. Also very important to me that the groomer is gentle with my baby and from what I could tell she was. He wasn't afraid to walk towards her and she did not mishandle him.
