Wildly disappointed with my meal here last night. The overall experience made me feel like that Lokal isn't like it used to be when it first opened. I hadn't been back in a while and, though famous for their burgers, I opted for the My Wife's Tuna Salad Sandwich. My sandwich was missing many of the menu's descriptions (no pickles, no iceberg lettuce, no kosher mustard). Instead I got a dry tuna salad with some arugula served in an almost stale rye toast. I'll give it a shot again because maybe it was just a bad night, but I was definitely not satisfied with my meal. They charged me a $1 for water (which maybe is a thing, but why?). After another long walk from South Miami we made our way into Coconut Grove down town center. After a few sips of we figured why not try go on the deep end and try a non-conventional burger: My Childhood Dream! Was dreamed up by imaginative burger chef as as a kid working in his dad's donut shop. They cut the donut in half, sear the outside and serve it w/ a 7oz burger, American cheese and candied bacon. Your would expect the bun of the glazed donut to appear on the outside but the sheet genius is it's the other way around. The inside of the donut is facing outside so you don't glaze up your fingers while eating this desert-dinner option. I have to say it was better than expected but I did miss my veggies of lettuce and tomatoes. We also ordered the Lokal Salad with a side of salmon which is also seasoned well will Fresh pepper and sea salt. Lokal Salad comes with mixed greens tossed with carrots, avocados, bacon, tomatoes, croutons, green peas, cucumbers, gruyere cheese. The dressing choice was Lokal vinaigrette. Loved the salad and got all my leafy greens which made up for the lack of greens in the burger we had. Our host made sure we had enough room for our baby stroller. With an 80's vibe, you can get a nice cold one from local Miami breweries and enjoy the great finds they have on their menu! The outside tables were more for drinks and casual snacking. So we sit down and were pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of local craft beers. We got the gator appetizer to share. We came with friends from out of town so they loved the idea of eating gator meat (tastes like fried chicken). I got the chicken and waffles and my boyfriend got the Lokal burger. I'm a huge fan of this company's other location called kush and I am just as big of a fan of Lokal after visiting a few times. The food here is scrumptious and leaves you wanting to order extra for the road even though you've stuffed your face and there is no room for anything in your stomach. I usually opt for the steak sandwich which is great. The burger is always toasty and the steak is thinly sliced which allows it for an easy bite. I had the smoked fish dip the other day and will recommend anyone who enters this establishment try it! It is just the right amount of Smokey to Salmon ratio. We almost ordered a second portion for the road just because we loved it so much. The beers here are great and I usually let the bartender choose a citrus ipa for me. (They haven't disappointed me yet) If they're not to busy I suggest getting to know your bartender or server, they are very knowledgeable and won't steer you in the wrong direction. Lokal is a laid back place for burgers, sandwiches and craft beers. Their burgers are grass-fed from Ft. McCoy Ranch located in Florida; free-range, kobe style cattle without hormones, antibiotics and steroids. Also, their delicious burgers are freshly made every day at the time of order so you're not getting anything old - you can taste the freshness. My personal favorites are: My Childhood Dream, the Lokal, and the Frita by Kush (which I tried it at Kush). FYI...My Childhood Dream burger has been upgraded since the last time I had it. Now they serve it with the doughnut from the Salty Donut!! The burgers and sandwiches range from $12 to $16, which I believe is a reasonable cost for the type of burger and sandwich you're eating. I have one left to try, being The Spillover, but from what I have had so far, his menu items are amazing in the 3 establishments I have visited thus far. Lokal is located in a busy area in Coconut Grove, and is a great place to visit for some good grub. The environment is totally laid back, and the burgers do not disappoint. I dined here with a friend a couple of Friday's ago, and I opted for the signature Frita by Kush, which consists of a natural beef burger with gruyere cheese, guava jelly, potato sticks, crispy bacon, and Lokal sauce. I opted for the burger to wrapped in lettuce, sans cheese. My side was sweet potato fries, and I topped it off with a Funky Buddha Pineapple Beach beer (yum!). Our waitress was very attentive, and had our food out very quickly. My burger was perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious! Packed with flavor, I was super satisfied with my meal. My friend also enjoyed her burger very much, and over all, we had a great experience.
