Found this little gem when we visited Phoenix last weekend! They have a few coffee and latte options, but not too many to overwhelm you. I got an iced coffee and my wife got a dirty chai latte, both of which were delicious! I also got a croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese, which turned out to me and amazing combination. The croissant was fresh, so were the eggs, and they combined the flavors well. They have an outside seating area, which is really fun to sit in on a warm morning in the shade! However, the inside is kind of warm and not well air conditioned. And, they're not that many tables on the outside! Be sure to come here early to snag a spot from the people who hang out for hours working in cafés. read more

I was cruising around on a bird scooter with my cousin when we came across this place. We decided to check it out because it looked good. Very nice place with a great atmosphere! They got a nice little patio you can sit at or nice tables with outlets to charge your computer or phone. They also had a couple of nice gluten free baked goods to choose from as well. I got a late with oat milk and my cousin got a Carmel Frappuccino. Both drinks were very good and we were happy with everything. The staff was also very friendly too. This place has the absolute best coffee and pastries downtown. I've been coming here for about 5 years and they never disappoint. Their whipped cream has a nice coffee flavor to it, so even though I get oat milk, I always ask for it to be added on! It's delicious! They have a good rotation of new pastries every day, but keep the classics such as their chocolate croissants, and jam filled muffins. The drinks are okay but the parking situation SUCKS (emphasis on the capitals). Just when you think you have a parking spot, you're met face-to-sign with a "to-go order parking only" along with a threat to be towed. I mean, I guess this place is good for two things: 1. Walking over to pick something up. 2. Wasting your time. Lola is beautiful. It's been through my high school and college days and continues to be in my life post grad. Always lovely. Staff is kind and the people usually are too. There's parking in the structure right behind it!! Kind of confusing if you have never been. Their iced coffees are refreshing and the area is usually good for studying or working. I recommend weekday afternoons for work, weekends are a little crammed.   Patio is cute. Worth a visit !!! The medium latte I ordered here is on my top ten list of the best I've ever had. Most lattes are more milky than espresso flavored, but the latte at Lola was rich with espresso yet still creamy and milky. There is an adorable little patio out back with plenty of shade where you can enjoy your coffee. We ordered a chocolate chip cookie as well that was soft and full of chocolate. I would be interested to try some more of their pastry items. read more

Lola was so yummy! Their drinks had good flavor, and weren't burnt. Their prices were unmatched- one of the cheaper lattes I've bought as of recent. Their service was good- not great. Just not overly chipper and friendly. They did, however, make a nice accommodation for my drink which was sweet of them. The ordering process, lid area, and picking up drinks can get crammed. Typical rip off coffee place. My husband went to get my order and asked "is this for lindsey"? Short little blonde shrugged her shoulders and said I don't know, if that's what she ordered then take it. Right... I absolutely LOVE bringing my husband to these artsy coffee places. He wears a backwards hat, has a huge beard, and wears regular clothes. Not the typical person to go to these places, leave a review, or even care. He has me write these things up and warn people of coffee shops that hire snobs. Had a sandwich. Half of the bread on the menu was a dollar up charge. They are make a killing off the local hundreds of college students in apartments around the area. They thrive off of location. They really don't care what us from Gilbert think. My friends and I have come here religiously for years, but it's definitely changed over the last couple months. The staff are outrageously rude. They would rather socialize with each other than even acknowledge customers. A majority of the time the drinks are wrong or just don't taste good because they're so busy talking to each other. A lady came out from the kitchen and I asked her a question and she said "I don't work here". If that's true, it's concerning that they let random customers walk around the back. If it's not true, it further proves my point about the staff being rude and disinterested in doing their jobs. Fun factoid for the Yelp world. Lola Coffee occupies a space that was once owned by my great grandfather. Originally constructed in 1925, The Gold Spot Marketing Center historical building once housed a business owned by my great grandfather called O.T.'s Liquor Store. He opened it shortly after prohibition was repealed, looking to cash in on a reborn industry. Downtown was a much different place back then and his business went through good times and bad. Today there's no sign of the old liquor store, but the bones of The Gold Spot building remain in tact. And with Downtown back in full swing, the old building houses not only Lola Coffee, but also Pita Jungle, Salon RO5, and The Painters Lounge among other tenants. As others have accurately pointed out, this historic space is gorgeous. Quintessentially Roosevelt Row, molding the bones of an old building with art on the walls, casual furniture, and a modern coffeehouse atmosphere. Lola can seat around 30 people inside and another 20 or so in the shaded patio out back so there's plenty of room even on busy mornings like this one. I've been to Lola a few times in the past, but I'm not a coffee drinker and their food offerings had always been limited to whatever baked goods were in the case. Or so I thought. I saw they had updated their website recently with an option to make your own custom sandwiches or burritos. WHAAAAAT?!?!?! Come Saturday morning, I was here at the opening bell. My last trip to Lola had been almost two years ago so admittedly I've been out of the loop on a few things. Like how CRAZY busy this place gets in the morning. Arriving at 7am, there was already a line of over a dozen folks in front of me, most waiting to get their morning cup o'Joe. Understandably, the action behind the counter is a beehive of activity as the baristas work double time to keep the line moving (which they do a good job of). It stayed busy for the first full hour they were open as the line never got shorter than 10 people. The bakery case was full just as I remembered, but behind the register now hangs a food menu that I hadn't remembered seeing in years past. That's what I came here to discover. Along with ordering a small orange juice, I asked to order a breakfast sandwich. Immediately, the gal at the register handed me a list to fill out so as to customize my meal. My decisions were as follows: Sandwich, regular eggs (instead of egg whites) with a medium scramble, ciabatta bread, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, sausage and bacon meats, tomato and spinach veggies. Total cost for the small OJ, sandwich, and tax came to $12. The sandwich took almost 10 minutes so it was a bit of a wait. But once the kitchen called my name to pickup, I raced over. What a payoff. All the ingredients were perfectly cooked and piled high. They didn't skimp on the meats or the cheeses on this by any measure. The ciabatta was perfectly toasted and the veggies were melded beautifully into the egg. Great portion, fantastic flavors, delicious breakfast to start off my Saturday. As with any coffeehouse review I can't speak to the coffee as it appears I'm one of the last 30 somethings on Earth that doesn't drink coffee. That said, the coffee menu here is along the lines of what you'll find at most coffee houses (espressos, cappuccinos, iced coffee, teas, etc). But the customizable sandwich and burrito menu is truly a treat here. Lots of ways to make yourself the perfect breakfast or brunch meal, and of course those tasty house-made baked goods in the bakery case up front. Now that I know Lola offers a full assortment of delicious breakfast items to go with everything else that makes this spot so popular, save me some space on their bandwagon. My great grandfather would be quite pleased to see his old store reborn into the success story Lola has become. read more
