Went to their monthly Taco bar day 1st Sat of the month. Got there at 3:30p to beat the lunch & dinner rush, instead it was packed (good for them, but go 4-5p instead). Food was very good, buffet was very clean and well stocked even with the long line, service was good and polite. 1 star ding was for their terrible diced steak; it tasted fine, but was full of big chunks of gristle, I should have taken a picture of all that I separated out; sincerely the worst quality I've ever had - but they can fix that quickly with better quality meat. Other meat selections were very good. I provided my mostly positive 1st time experience feedback at the counter and mentioned the poor steak to maybe the owner/wife? - I'm not sure she understood (i.e., possible language barrier?). It was pretty much your basic Mexican restaurant. It's in a small strip mall, nothing special but seemed clean, well taken care of. Bathroom could have been cleaner. We were promptly seated, drinks ordered and orders taken quickly. Wait staff was ok. I had 3 beef enchiladas rice and beans. Enchiladas were flavorful, as well as the beans. Rice was a little bland. No free chips and salsa, they were extra and not very good. Runny salsa and chips looked like bottom of the bag. So, I would eat here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice in a Mexican restaurant. We ordered off lunch menu, and the price was right $8.50. Definitely a bargain. read more

I want to preface this by saying I love the food and the staff, this is my go too Mexican restaurant and I have supported them for many years. It pains me to leave this review. However, my last 3 orders have had hair in them. One was a small beard hair that was just laying in the bottom of the burrito container, but the others were long black hair interwoven throughout my food. (sopes) Unfortunately, I just can't continue to order from here, which is really unfortunate. I understand that this can happen once in a while, but in three separate orders over a two week period? Their beans and rice are absolutely delicious and would definitely make an amazing meal all on its own! We've gone to their taco bar weekend special in the past and truly enjoyed it. All the employees were very helpful and make sure you enjoyed your meal. Husband was curious about their carne asada so also ordered a quesadilla with carne asada as the meat choice. What do they do to make something so simple so, so delicious? We couldn't finish everything but we were truly satisfied with everything we ordered. Mexican style tacos are the BOMB, in my opinion and oh how I was craving them. Decided to check out Mi Pueblo, which is ALWAYS a hoppin' joint, to grab some fine tacos. The meal itself was large. My partner also order food and we ended up thinking we could have gotten away with one order and sharing but, instead, we just had some left overs! Now, I know I made a big deal on the tacos but, beans and rice are a must have for me at any Mexican restaurant I visit. Mi Pueblo beans and rice...I'd go back simply for a large container of each! Mi Pueblo is my favorite mexican restaurant in Kalamazoo. They used to have a taco bar every weekend (I think it was only on the weekends but I could be wrong) but have since limited how often they do that. The taco bar was always great because you had the option to try every meat they offer and make it just how you like it. They always serve fresh tortilla chips and salsa and will even bring more while you're waiting for your food and even while you're eating your meal. They're very good! My favorite thing to order is of course tacos. We prefer to have them Mexican Style with just cilantro, onions and a lime. But the american style with cheese, sour cream, onions and lettuce do not disappoint either. Most of their entree's come with a side of rice and beans. I really love their rice. They also make their own pico, mild sauce and hot sauce. If you're hosting a party or event consider having them cater for you. We had them cater for my sisters celebration and it was outstanding! All of the food arrived fresh and hot just as if you were sitting in their restaurant being served. They brought plenty of homemade tortilla chips and homemade salsa that are both so delicious! To bring all of this together, it's a family owned business. They're so friendly. Some mexican restaurants in town taste like the food was microwaved and it served just as quick as you order it. Not here. You can tell the food is made fresh to order and it is served quick enough. What's better than a great taco bar? NOTHING! Well very little anyway, as I found out during my first visit to Mi Pueblo. My boss had recommended them previously as he is a frequent visitor and a confirmed fan. I admit I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to "authentic" Mexican food, but I know what I like. Upon entering, I was immediately impressed with the traditional, homey feeling interior. Reminded me of other small ethnic restaurants i'd visited in larger cities, in a good way. We were greeted and promptly seated. Of course we all opted for the all-you-can-eat taco buffet! Did I mention it was good? Listen, it was SO good that I completely forgot to take any pics of my taco creations, until I was at the counter to pay! SO I snapped a couple quick pics for the review LOL Back to the food.. the bar isn't huge but there were consistently at least 6 different types of meat dishes. I wish I was better at remembering the actual names of the dishes but you'll just have to take my word it. There were a couple chicken dishes, a couple pork dishes, something with chorizo & potatoes, ground beef, and a dish that consisted solely of pork fat and a delicious spicy sauce! I was told by another customer that dish was a traditional breakfast staple in their culture. It was SO good that I didn't even have the texture issues that I usually do with slimy foods. They should be ashamed. This is not Mexican food. I am Mexican and wanted something to eat. I walk in to waiting to be seated while staff was talking. They sat me down and gave me the smallest bowl of hard chips and watered down tomato's (not salsa). It was a small bowl of diced tomatoes, onions with cilantro and water. No jalapeños, no salt or pepper or garlic. Absolutely no taste. I looked at the entire menu and was surprised at the mess of a menu. But I asked to taste a few sauces and those were not good or flavorful at all. The few things I tried to order I was told they didn't have certain ingredients so I ended up ordering some queso but that was even bad. I was given a large bowl with watery cheese. I ate a few bites and paid for my chips, queso and coke. This was truly the worse Mexican food I have ever tasted. I try not to leave bad reviews unless it calls for it. This called for a bad review. As a Mexican who cooks almost everyday I think the owners and cooks need to step back and rethink the menu and start cooking with spices, give the food some flavor and some jalapeños. I've been a customer for more than ten years. Typically the service is mediocre but the food has been good. My last visit on Cinco De Mayo a couple weeks ago was pretty awful. The Burrito was not good. I didn't receive the two sides (rice/beans) that were supposed to come with it but since the 'servers' were nowhere to be found I settled on the naked Burrito. It had an 'odd' flavor. Not rotten or spoiled food but different and not good. And like most places their prices have gone up - alot. No drink refills. Had to practically tackle the Senorita to get a box for leftovers for the three of us. I won't write them off for one bad visit but I do expect to get what I pay for and on this visit I didn't. We love coming here! The staff is so nice and helpful. Our biggest challenge is not eating too much of the complimentary chips and salsa while we take our time drooling over the menu to decide what to eat! The portions are awesome for the prices, and since we have giant eyes and order too much, we get another meal out of it. This visit, my daughter and I shared the fiesta plate - which would have been plenty for the two of us - but she also had to have her favorite beans and rice (and I just had to have two chorizo tacos supreme!). This was my second time there. I enjoyed ordering off the menu the first time but have wanted to go back on a weekend as they have a 8.99 taco bar. Today I tried it and was surprised at the quality of it. They bring you chips and salsa and then asked if I wanted rice and beans which they brought to the table. You then have many choices of fillings to choose from as well as many other toppings. Nothing better than getting to be in total control of whats on your tacos. Be warned, the salsas are not tagged so it's hard to tell which ones are hot or not. I found the hottest and it's really hot which is sometimes hard to find at a lot Mexican restaurants. I may have gotten a little carried away with how many I ate. It's all you can eat and they even come back and ask if you want more rice or beans. I'm writing this review at 4am in the morning. Me and my friends are about to have this place again tomorrow and i just couldn't stop thinking about their food. This place is the "chefs kiss" of Mexican cuisine in the Kalamazoo area. So from a first-hand perspective, the food is amazing. The Tacos are the best in the Kalamazoo area hands down, the tortilla are fresh and you can tell by how crispy the edges of it as you bite into it. The steak, chicken and even the vegetarian tacos are seasoned well, NOT DRY, and there is just that magical taste of flavoring in the meat. If i didn't know any better, i would say just a hint of msg maybe? The nachos aren't just some store bough nachos, they taste great, crispy, and well seasoned with salt, not to mention their fresh pico style sauce for the nachos. They have two kinds of excellent sauces for the tacos and other menu items, verde and the red sauce. Both are fresh and the verde sauce which is the hotter of the two is just right in spice level for people that don't have baby tongues. Otherwise i wouldn't use it if you easily offend with spicy food. Usually the 2 steak, 2 chicken, corn tortilla, "Mexican" style is the go to, but for people who desire more you can't go wrong with their burritos, if the tacos don't fill you up, the burritos will, and all the same consistency with the amazing flavoring of these meals. The atmosphere is great, resembling a villa style environment, along with sombreros and other theme related vanity. The service is great, and what i can only assume as Mexican people actually work here are always greeting you with a smile and welcoming attitude. Their price, is also another thing to note, the cost of the food here is relatively inexpensive, tacos used to be $1.30 each! but with inflation they have increased a little bit. You find one you like of a specific cuisine, and you go until the owners know about your daily routine and interrogate you sweetly the moment that they notice that you're not around. It was about 10 minutes before the lunch special ends, so 2:50 PM, and I was greeted by a sweet smile of the waitress who works the register. He told me just to try it, and since he's always so good with the recommendations, of course, I followed suit. I took the suggestion of the kind woman in the front, whose name I promise to get the next time I go. I was met by two kind young women, one who offered me a menu, which I declined and then the other provided me chips and salsa. I said, "I'm taking out, it's okay." She said that was fine and handed them over anyway. I then asked for a coffee, which in no time I received. I was promised 25 minutes, I got my food in 15 minutes, and the guy who was running the operation charged me not a dime more for the service. I went home with chorizo, and steak and chicken tacos, perfect portioned, seasoned, and cooked to share with my partner-in-lime (pun intended), who can be pretty picky sometimes. I've heard lots of good things about Mi Pueblo and finally had the opportunity to try it myself. First, the positive, food was really good. We didn't have a huge variety, but it was all good. The enchiladas are the drier style and not served swimming in sauce, not super huge....beef, cheese and chicken were all tasty. I also had Skirt Steak and it was simply some of the best I have ever had...juicy, pretty tender and great flavor. The rice and beans on the side were just OK. After I was done eating I made the mistake of looking at the weekend only taco bar...everything looked great and well worth the $9 they charge. The steak was so good, but I would be torn between it and the tacos. Now the not so positive, everybody was polite, but the service was almost nonexistent. We got our drinks and our food and the bill and that was it. No refills or checking back...nothing else at all. Really not any sort of an acknowledgement that we were there in the restaurant. All of this while the table next to us had a couple of visits from the cooks with fresh tacos instead of the pre-made shells from the taco bar, drink refills and several check backs. I was disappointed to say the least. If the food was anything less than stellar it would be 2 stars rating. As it is I would rate a 3.5 if I could but I can't, so I'm rounding up to 4 because the food was that good.
