When asked were shown the digital ordering system. Pretty easy to use. Free tea. I wanted hot tea & daughter tried the cold version. Cold tea was delicious but a little too sweet so she added some water. We ordered Bento box. Mine with vegan kangpao chicken. Hers was black pepper tofu. We have been coming here and getting takeout since it opened. Everything is excellent. I am a meateater but my family is vegetarian and I love the food here. The vegetarian food is awesome, and there is even frozen section so you can bring home many of the faux meats that are served here. Jeff is always friendly, efficient and accomodating. Pure vegetarian places are a hard thing to find in meat centric Alberta. Loma House is one in town that caters to the vegetarian crowd. Located in the same plaza as The Burger Joint, Loma is waaaaaaaaaay south side. We came on a Friday evening and even though it was only 7pm, people were already wrapping up their (early) dinners. I guess south siders like to dine early? The menu is long, in typical Asian fashion. Interesting that they serve dim sum here but I would be pretty skeptical about ordering anything from that part of the menu. - Great burdock ($4.00) - the tea had a woody, earthy aroma. Excellent and went very nicely with our meal. - Party platter ($22.00) - veggie spring rolls, veggie shrimp rolls, satay kebabs and roti. I never find these platters to be of good value - they always seem to be overpriced. - Spicy eggplant ($13.00) - eggplant is my fav. I wouldn't really call these spicy; it was quite mild. Passable. - Shanghai noodles ($11.00) - again, this dish was decent but missing wok hei. The noodles didn't have any spring or bite to them. - Spicy tofu clay pot ($14.00) - served with purple rice. This was easily the best dish of the night. Glass noodles were on point with nice chunks of tofu. The sauce was great, it reminded me of this Chinese mushroom sauce my grandma used to make. Nothing wrong with Loma but if I'm going to eat at a strictly vegetarian place, I'm not driving out of my way to come here. If you're in the area or live deep south, then it's fine. Otherwise, Veggie Garden is a clear winner in my books. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Loma House yet. I've been here multiple times and it's one of my favourite vegetarian spots in Edmonton. The first time I visited here was the first time I had dim sum since there weren't other vegetarian options at the time. I don't have anything to compare it to but I know I liked what I ate. The vegan BBQ bun is unreal and the curry bun is a close 2nd favourite. Since then I've visited multiple times to try other menu items and I've never been disappointed. I'm a huge fan of their mango "chicken" and of the deep-fried yam balls they've had in the past for dessert. Loma House is great if you're looking for a casual, affordable vegetarian meal that will leave you craving more. read more

We were passing through Edmonton in search of good vegetarian fare. There seems to be a Buddhist influence here. Whatever has Buddha attached to on the menu go for. This is someone who is committed to their vegetarianism. Don't be put off by the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. This is a small business person trying to make a go of it in their own way. I really enjoyed my lunch here! The food was great. The parking lot here gets a bit busy at all times of the day due to the different businesses but thankfully we were able to get a spot! We got the Roti which came with a vegan curry dipping sauce. It was so delicious. Then we got the teriyaki "chicken" and the curry "chicken" with rice and we shared both dishes. They were both really great. We were worried that we ordered too much food but we actually finished it all because it was so good! Also tried the black tea which came in a nice teapot and had a bit of a sweet taste to it. The only thing that takes away a star is that the service was sloooooooooow. Like really slow. I think we were there for two hours or something. Usually I find that servers come out and take your drink order and then they bring you the drink and then take the food order. But our server didn't take any orders until we were ready to order food. So we didn't have drinks for the first half hour of being there... not even water! Maybe that can be something you work on! I've been wanting to try this place for over a year now and I'm glad I finally got my sister to come out with me. We came in on a Friday evening and I'm so glad I was able to find a great parking spot right in front of the restaurant, Sweet! For a former Vegetarian I'd say it's difficult to find a variety of restaurants that fits the craving for an adventurous night out in Edmonton. Vancouver yes but Edmonton... hmm... There are a variety of choices on the menu that sound and look tasty. We started with the Soy Drumsticks, Roti Canai, and a pot of Osmanthus Fragrans Flowers. We were quite hungry we also got a Bento box each. I had the Spicy Beef and my sister had the Imperial (Kung Pao) Chicken, both came with Iced Lemon Jasmine Green Tea. The drinks came out first, the tea had to steep for a bit longer so we drank up our Iced Lemon Jasmine Green Tea which was unbelievably good. The Soy Drumsticks and Roti Canai came out, the drumsticks were so cute and tasty, the Roti was yummy but I found just a tad on the greasy side. When our Bento box came out i was getting a bit full but I was still able to enjoy that Bento. My beef had a beef jerky but softer texture and the marinade was sweet but not over bearing (I liked it). I barely hit the rice before I got too full. I forgot how quickly i get full when I have a vegan meal lol. For a great Vegetarian Restaurant I would definitely come back here. Not only is the food great but the atmosphere is wonderful. This is by far one of my very favourite vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Edmonton and it probably ought to be rated one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton period too. I've only been there twice in person but I've really enjoyed food that others have had at their events which they've reheated. Their spring rolls (reheated or not) are always rather delicious and I don't even like spring rolls much of the time, to be honest. The set meals and bento boxes they have at the restaurant are really great deals but the rest of the menu is delicious too. The beverages (teas for example) are rather good! And while service is slow, the food comes out very wonderfully. They have a refrigerator from which you can buy items to prepare at home which is great too! I highly recommend this little tiny restaurant as it is really a delicious place at which to eat. read more

We noticed this place while visiting another business in the Square on 23rd commercial area. Always eager to support local plant based restaurants we decided to go in for a nibble and check out the options. Loma house has been in Edmonton for 10 years and serves Chinese dishes, replacing animal products with plant alternatives. You'll find many of the Chinese dishes you love on the menu. They have gone to great lengths to showcase their menu on the website and in house. There are visual flip cards on each table that beautifully show some of the popular dishes they have. I was attracted to the store front. Lush green with cursive writing advertised Bubble Tea, Flowering Tea and Vegan dishes. Upon entering I felt happy and calm at the sight of a large white orchid on a dark four drawer dresser. The walls were painted the same green as out front with ornate white woodwork at the top. Everything was bright and airy while the black floor tiles looked clean and shiny. You can see the kitchen from the cash register and it's spotless. To the left was a freezer displaying dishes you could purchase and take home. Each table had real potted plants with small plants such as aloe, rubber and little trees. It was obvious the staff take pride in keeping this place very clean. It's a humble restaurant with 11 tables to serve it's guests. We took a seat and the server came out with menus. He was polite and soft spoken. He grabbed us a high chair and left us to look over the menu. I was hoping to try the flowering tea and the ramen soup. However, the sun was shining in and created a very warm greenhouse effect making it too hot to order soup and tea. I will try it next time. We ordered the Lettuce Wraps, Edamame, Curry Fried Rice with Soy Nuggets, Chocolate Pudding, Fried Banana Rolls and Chocolate Almond Milk. The lettuce wraps are a great spring and summer appetizer. Crisp romaine leafs filled with warm peppers and soy meat seasoned with a sweet and sour sauce. I really enjoyed them as flavourful, light and great start to a meal. The curry fried rice was excellent. A large portion of crispy soy nuggets on a bed of mild curry rice. The fried banana rolls were displayed artfully on a plate with blueberries, strawberries and a smear of chocolate. The roll was like a spring roll with banana instead of vegetables. Delicate and crispy with a sweet warm banana inside, once you put a little chocolate on it you will love this dessert. The chocolate pudding was creamy and the perfect amount of sweet, topped with two raspberries. We all really enjoyed our meal, sharing and commenting on all of it. I love vegetarian food, this awesome nice family owned restaurant is a gem. I've been going to this restaurant for almost 4 years now and it never fails. Food is always made fresh, hot and good! You won't find flavors to be bland. The restaurant is always nice and clean, the wife cooks in the back and the husband attends to customers and serves at the front. I orderded udon noodle soup, it tastes amazing. The owner mentions it is the #1 rated noodle soup and is most popular and it sure is yummy. Presentation is so very cute, served on a bowl like pot and underneath has a heating spot tray. Totally recommend it if its nasty outside and you want something soothing but not heavy. We had the soup of the day, the vegetable curry with Tofu & rice, and the potstickers w/salad. The soup was very good ... Clear broth with 4 or 5 pieces of bok choi, corn, cauliflower, etc. The veg curry w/tofu was mild but very tasty. However the serving could have been 25% or so larger. The potstickers were tasty but a bit chewy. There could have been more filling and a thinner shell. But still good. We would have given 5 stars but they forgot to offer us water. read more

Went to Loma House early on a Saturday evening and were seated right away. The ambience was nice and quaint. We chose the Bao Buns, satay skewers and shrimp rolls as appetizers. All were good but he Bao really stood out and was so flavourful. For entrees we ordered one sizzling plate with ocean fillet, kung pao chicken and mango chicken. The kung pao was the best of the three, but all were delicious. My only suggestion would be to play some quiet music as a restaurant with no music can put me off. Overall clean, wonderful food and good service. Good for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. read more

We went for dinner here on Friday night and the place was already packed around 7PM. They were nice enough to move some people to accommodate our larger group. It did take a while to get tea and enough napkins, but otherwise, service was nice and friendly. The food here was amazing! It's right up there with some of my favorite vegetarian restaurants anywhere. We got a few different dishes to try, and all were very good. Probably, my favorite is the kung pao chicken. It's not too spicy, and the spiciness didn't hit me right away. It lingered a little and right when I thought I finished my mouthful, I could sense the heat. It was pretty awesome. The menu itself is pretty big. Lots of dim sum and appetizer options to start with, and then lots of mains to choose from as well. There were even sweets to end with as well. read more

Definitely a hidden gem, Loma House is something you have to know about, not stumble upon. Yet if you do find it, I think you'll be happy you did! Catering to vegetarians and vegans (or anyone who enjoys good veggie fare!), the space is literally half store and half restaurant. One side is lined with freezers holding every kind of fake meat product you can imagine, as well as frozen dumplings, skewers, etc. The other half is the actual restaurant, with a well-rounded menu of Asian dishes. They offer a $13.50 daily special which includes a soup, main dish and dessert, as well as dim sum, bento boxes, and various combos and main dishes. On my visit I shared a Kung Pao "chicken" bento box with my dining companion, which also included jasmine rice, 1 spring roll, 1 soy drumstick, 2 soy nuggets and 3 potstickers. I am vegetarian but tend to avoid fake meats, so this was a bit of an experiment! Everything was very good, some items I could barely tell they weren't chicken which was a pleasant surprise! The fried noodles we ordered to supplement our meal had good flavour but were somewhat greasy, I wouldn't order them again. However, I would like to go back for dim sum, as those steamed buns are calling my name! If you're a vegetarian on the south side, I would happily recommend a visit to Loma House! read more

Hubby and I went there twice. We had a teriyaki chicken bento , curry lamb bento , Shanghai noodles daily special and sizzling beef. I like the curry lamb bento the most because the curry was good and the lamb actually tasted like lamb. Other than the curry lamb, The bento also came with the fried Cha Siu, fried chicken nuggets and fried squids. The texture of the chicken nuggets and squids were almost the same as the real one. This is such a quaint and lovely place! There is such a wide variety of food choices and it's so nice that it's all vegetarian and vegan! I had the Sizzling Plate with the Crispy Soy Steak and we almost did not believe that it was not real meat. My friend is a carnivore and even she was amazed. It's also really neat that you can purchase a lot of their soy proteins or dumplings as frozen foods to take home right there and then! I ordered the Curry Dim Sum and loved it so much - it was awesome that I was able to purchase a 4pack and take it home to make for a later day. Although maybe the food could be a bit spicier, I am so excited to have finally visited this place! I also tried the Mochi Ice Cream balls which was very new and different. Would recommend. I found this place while searching for vegetarian/vegan restaurants online. It was a little difficult to find because it is in a mini mall on a service road - but boy, was I glad I found it! The owners were super friendly, greeting us as soon as we walked in the door. It is very clean, very neat, with simple decorations. The food is mostly Chinese. There are individual orders or combo orders. I tried the combo order for $11.99. This included: a fruit smoothie (quite large), a spring roll (delicious) and 2 "mains". I had the sweet and sour pork and veggie chicken, my son had veggie rice with Kung Po chicken (they changed the spelling as it is not real chicken). It was AMAZING! My son is not vegan, he is an omnivore - when we left he said "maybe I will try to eat more vegan food". I absolutely loved the service, the cleanliness and most importantly the fact I could eat at a vegan/vegetarian restaurant with excellent food. They also sell vegan substitutes for ham, beef, chicken and pork as well as pre-made vegan dishes you can take home to cook yourself, which is excellent if you don't always have time to make something, or just want to try something new at home. And for a tea lover there is an excellent assortment of teas to drink there or take home to brew later. If you are vegan or vegetarian you have got to try this place. If you want meat substitutes for your veggie dishes, they have a nice selection of meat substitutes in their large freezers. Vegetarian or vegan? Then you'll definitely know about Padmandi. Or Noorish. But how about Loma House? What if I told you that I think Loma House is the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to? Yea, go figure that a small restaurant in south Edmonton would outcook Padmanadi and Noorish. Loma House serves up vegetarian (and vegan friendly) dishes, most of which is Malaysian or Indian inspired. I think everybody (there was 11 of us) at the table ordered the "Daily Special" that night, a bargain at $13.50 which includes a soup, your choice of entree, and dessert. I was told the miso soup was delicious... Other soup options include a vegetable soup or hot and sour. I personally ordered the hot and sour and it was one of the best soups I've ever had. So addicting and just enough heat to get your tummy going. Doesn't even matter than it's summer outside, this soup was amazing! Not too sour either, which becomes a bit of a problem for me. A couple of people ordered the spicy beef, the "beef" made up of soy protein and mushroom stems. You'd be surprised at how much it actually tasted like beef. Texture usually is the biggest giveaway but not in this case. Best "beef" I've come across to date that didn't taste like mashed up brown tofu. Mixed in with a stir fry of broccoli, baby corn, carrots, and bell peppers in a sweet and spicy sauce with a side of rice. I ordered the curry vegetable with tofu entree, not thoroughly thinking it though that maybe I should have ordered a "beef" or "chicken" dish. But that's okay, I got a bite of most people's dishes (how kind!). My curry sauce was creamy and very Thai or Malaysian inspired, not Indian for those of you who are wondering. The tofu was of medium firmness, just the way I like it, and held its shape despite being stewed with the sauce. So delicious! I contemplated packing up the sauce to go and throwing in more vegetables and tofu at home but then I'd be the weirdo who took sauce home. Other plates for the night: a curry fried rice (served with some soy nuggets) and curry vermicelli with satay kebab, a soy ham (seitan, wheat meat). Bold colours and flavors made both dishes a win for their respective diners. Both protein components also had completely different textures as well, which is awesome. Nothing worse than having the "beef" also taste like the "chicken" or the tofu. Further down the table, one friend deviated from the combination meal and ordered the summer special, a curry udon bowl. It came out on this little contraption, fueled and heated to keep the cute bowl warm. Sharing a bowl seemed to be a bit difficult though, with a mesh spider and spoon to scoop things out. Probably ideal for just eating straight out of the hot bowl methinks. And a meal isn't complete without dessert and Loma House takes care of that as well. Ice cream for Prasann, although he's pretty sure it just came from a grocery. This was the only option that wasn't dairy free. The star of desserts for me was the non-dairy (aka vegan friendly) chocolate pudding. Not too sweet, but rich and decadent, much like you'd expect of a full fledged chocolate pudding. And they came out in the cutest little cups! The theme of cute plating continued with the fresh fruit plate, served with a side of glaze. There was a lot of "where did you get this?" for the owner that night! Adorable. Overall? The meal was fantastic and greatly unexpected. The combo is a good value and everybody at our table left happy! We got to know the owner a little better and discovered why their restaurant was so successful in creating beautiful dishes, amazing flavors, and great "meat" products. With seven sister restaurants based in Ontario, and their own vegan products manufactured in Mississauga, Loma House was able to bring that over to Edmonton two years ago. The restaurant is modest in size, seating around 30 people. Three industrial refrigerators line the side wall with take out products for you to bring home, including the "beef" and "chicken" products. I'll have to keep that in mind when I want to sub out meat for a meal! It would be great to experiment with their products. The owner, Jeff Kao, was so friendly and eager to answer all of our questions. Loved it! Google maps is highly recommended to find the space, as the storefront isn't actually on the main 23 Ave but inside a strip mall with an inner road running parallel to 23 Ave. Can't wait to come back to try their dim sum dishes or main stand alone dishes which would be perfect to share for a family meal. read more

Yeah, I'm going to spoil the five star party here. The three star rating may be a bit harsh - I left satiated, but without thinking "Yum." Service is very friendly and the dim sum they serve is frozen. My food was tasty enough to finish, but didn't make me eager to return. I ordered the red curry noodle pot and made way too much of a mess of myself. I think there were too many noodles, and not enough substance. I am also a carnivore, so I'm not always the best judge of Vegetarian food. Though I can say with certainty that I enjoy Veggie Garden's wonton soup far more than I enjoyed this one. My wife didn't find herself as impressed with what she ordered as she is with her favourite dishes at Padmanadi's and Veggie Garden. My bf and I walked in around 7pm for a quick dinner and were delightfully surprised by the ambiance and decor. The owner was the only server, with his(wife?) alone in the kitchen! We had very prompt service, ordered way too much food for two people(we'd worked all day and were STARVING!). The Wonton soup was the highlight for sure. We ordered the soup, 2 entrees: the curried mutton and the spicy tofu, as well as some dim sum items(vegan dim sum! FINALLY!) . Over all we were impressed. We also raided the freezer in the retail section and brought home veggie jerky(so close to the real thing it's kinda scary!), Veggie Bacon Ham and some Veggie dumplings. I have only come to know of this place through my fiance as he used to work in the South Edmonton Common neighbourhood. This is my favourite go-to place for Vegetarian Dim Sum, especially when I have got strict vegetarian friends and/or family visiting. Loma House possibly has got the best roti canai in town; yep, it's fresh and delicious. The red curry (vegetarian mutton) is to die for; the yellow curry (with tofu) is my fiance's ultimate favourite dish. The spicy eggplant is really, really good. We've come to this cute little express restaurant for many years now. It has been consistently good and of great value. Here's a tip if you are eating with a group: order the individual dishes and share. Each of you would get a rice bowl. Service is very good, considering that this place is run by two people: husband and wife. I love it that there's a freezer full of vegetarian products (convenience foods) such as steamed buns and mock meat. All of these are made in Ontario, Canada. As others have mentioned, the owner is above average in friendliness. They started out as a rather bare little place in a strip mall, but recently they have added nice seating and lovely decoration. I am glad they have made it too this stage! I keep ordering the lemon green bubble tea. Made with real lemons, as the occasional seed within can attest to! The "meat" is pretty darn good, and that is coming from an omnivore who loves her meat. I don't miss it at this place! Very nice service, the owner is quite nice and attentive. I can only eat small portions so I just tried the appies the first time which were the Roti bread and spring rolls. Both were very tasty, somewhat greasy, but the sauces were delicious for dips. This place is all vegetarian which is perfect for those that don't eat meat. And they sell many of their dishes in a couple coolers so that you can prepare them at home which is a great idea. They also have a great selection of blooming teas. I had the Japanese rice green tea and it was quite good, went well with the food. The appies filled me up quite a bit almost to the point I had to get them to go, but forced myself to eat them because they were so good. I don't think I would eat here every day because some of their dishes are quite pricey, but also many things are deep fried which is a no-no for me 99% of the time. But for an occasional treat, this place is very cute, small and cozy. read more

Been here many times and I have always left satisfied. I mostly get the Bento box that has a lot of different options but usually comes with a spring roll, soy drumsticks, nuggets and salad rolls or sushi, as well as the main meal. I would recommend the Kung Pao. Its all delicious and it also comes with a jasmine iced tea which is amazing. For $15, it doesn't get any better than this. Great! I loved it. This place was recommended to me by a friend and in my mind I thought it to be something like Padmanadi. The vibe of this place is more of a 'grabbing a quick meal on my lunch break.' I was very satisfied by the food as it had a home cooked feel to it. We ordered the curry vermicelli, curry fried rice with soy nuggets, and a side of bbq seitan. The seitan came out first and blew me away. As a practising vegan/vegetarian I make my own seitan every week and I've become better at it as time has progressed, but I can't compare to the quality of the bbq seitan. The other plates were nice; the rice was better than the noodles, especially because of the soy nuggets. The soy ham in the vermicelli barely makes an appearance. We finished our meal off with a pannacotta, which was much better than I expected. Usually vegan desserts taste like they're vegan, and being a former meat eater I can tell, but I would highly recommend the pannacotta. The texture was smooth and silky and the coconut taste was subtle but impactful. I plan on going back to try the other items as the menu was so full of different things to try that I had a hard time deciding on my first visit. I had the spicy beef, sweet and sour chicken balls, BBQ dumplings, and the mango bubble tea, and they were all delicious! The owner was very friendly and helpful, willing to alter the dish if I needed it, no extra charge. I got my food quickly and it was inexpensive. read more

This Veggie/vegan restaurant is awesome. It was so hard to order because they have so May things on the menu, everything 100%vegetarian! I chose the special, came with soup&desert! I got the curry vegetable tofu dish with rice. I am not a big fan of tofu, but it was good! I wish I had a few more days here to come back and try all they have to offer! They have freezers by the counter with tons of very reasonably priced take away veggie products, every kind of meat alternative, and even some frozen dinners. The service was great, just one man serving about 6-7 tables, he was very kind. The people next to me ordered the Bento Box Combination, it's 15$, I Will Definitely get this next time, it looked awesome! read more

In a word: Wonderful. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. The price is good for the amount of food you get. Even though the service is very quick I'm always anxious to get my food and I'm doing a happy dance in my seat while I eat it. The flavours are so amazing that you don't even notice it's veg.
