From the employees who check you in upon arrival to the nurses, technicians and doctors, this medical care facility offered one of the best healthcare experiences I've ever had. The wait time was surprisingly short, especially when you consider the number of patients they see. Then, there is Dr. Madison McMenemy. I call her Dr. "Happy" Madison. She is, without a doubt, the most friendly, kind, caring and professional Doctor I have ever seen. A surgical procedure that had me a bit nervous, ended up being a very comfortable experience. My procedure was performed at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital. There, the quality of care continued. From check in, prep, surgery to recovery, every medical professional was top notch. Dr McMenemy (Sr.) was likely once a good doctor but he messed up my mother's eye during cataract surgery. It took him 3 visits to correct and on one visit the light and backup light in the surgical center failed. Truly, could qualify for medical malpractice if one wished to pursue that. Her vision is .75 in that eye meaning she could use glasses. We had the other eye treated elsewhere and the vision is clear in that eye, no glasses needed. Astigmatism in the eye that Dr M treated is also worse than the other eye. A friend says there he has messed up her treatment as well, but don it know the details. The absolute worst eye clinic ever. I have a family member who is a patient of Dr. Matthew McMenemy. He incorrectly performed a cataract surgery for my family member which required another surgeon to step in and fix his mess. Matthew's a great doctor and makes himself available to his patients via text (which is great for me, as a millennial) but I cannot keep coming here. His wait times are atrocious. I'm not 72 years old like most of his patients and so I have to go back to work. Last time I was here it took over an hour and a half (closer to 2) between the moment I entered the parking lot and left. This time, I wasn't doing it again (I literally can't). Expect long wait times. The main reasons the office gets backed up are daily emergency walk ins, lengthy retraction/contact lens fittings, and older patients being dropped off without caretakers or family members. Dr. McMenemy takes his time with patients and doesn't turn anyone away, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. I'd recommend finding another doctor if the main reason for your visit is contact lenses and retractions because there are other options for ophthalmologists and optometrists in the area. Personally, I wouldn't go to a restaurant with an empty dining room. Likewise, the constantly full waiting room goes to show how many patients like and trust Dr. McMenemy with their eye care. read more

Dr Mcmenemy is a wonderful Dr. He was recommended to me by a friend. I had serious eye damage to my right eye 40 years ago and every other eye Dr I had seen over the years had said there's not much we can do, I was 20/400, after seeing Matthew he said I think we can help you, after surgery I am 20/80 and that's a world of difference. I'll agree that appointments are a little difficult to get sometimes but that's because they stay very busy. I think the longest I ever waited was 45 mins and that was because the Dr had a surgery that went longer than expected but saw me the moment he arrived. Sometime things happen and yes maybe you have to wait a little. As one reviewer wrote " I'm not 72 years old like most of his patients and so I have to go back to work" We all have lives and, in a world, where these millennials are used to having their food or Amazon packages delivered in a moment the world doesn't always work that way. We all just have to wait our turn. I have never had a single appointment with any Dr that was waiting at the door for me to arrive, most likely you haven't either. If you have eye issues I would highly recommend Dr Mcmenemy or his daughter Dr Madison Mcmenemy. The office has a completely new staff, all very young and very courteous. I get text messages for reminders of appointments and calls are answered on the first ring. The new staff is wonderful and take the time to answer any questions. I am a regular customer at this location and have been pleasantly impressed until now! I had a late appointment 3:45pm due to my job. I arrived at 3:40pm and checked in and waited over a hour before being called back to see Dr. Matthew McMenemy. I mentioned to the staff at the counter that I had been waiting for some time and what is the status of my appointment! I heard a voice saying He's the last patient in the background so I set back down and continued to wait. I was finally called back and was notified that Dr. Matthew McMenemy was not there and would I mind seeing another Doctor (his daughter)! I really wish someone would have informed me prior to me wanting over a hour to be seen! This is a place where they charge you a fee for missing an appointment! I feel like they wasted my time without being transparent. There is something to be said about a good morning or a gesture to connect with a patient during his or her first visit. What I experienced was a type of depersonalization I had not seen in a long time. Throughout my visit, which lasted almost three hours, it was clear my case was nothing but another medical file and a possible revenue builder for an eye surgery. The staff was impersonal; the doctor did not bother even to introduce himself, and his explanation/instructions were mechanical and delivered as if we were working on a pipeline project. I get it. I was just another patient, and it was Friday. I know. We are all tired. Yet, I expected more from an organization that is potentially going to cut my upper eyelids open. The person who I suppose is the scheduler, followed suit with the same impersonal/mechanical approach. "Are you going to call me about the insurance approval?" I asked. "I am," she answered. Brought my 83 year old grandmother to an appt scheduled for 2:15. We arrived at 1:40. She sat in the waiting room for almost 2 hours. After being put in a room she sat for an additional hour before being helped. This place knowingly over books. The front desk is disrespectful and not helpful. While this is not the 1st time this has happened it is certainly the worst. This is unacceptable and a practice that clearly cares more about money and numbers than their patients. We will be looking to go elsewhere. read more

Unlike others, I have not had to wait excessively for appointments and the staff has been very courteous to me. I would give 4 stars but I've had a very difficult time with accounting. I was overcharged for a visit last year and was told I'd be mailed a refund. On Feb 1 I inquired about the refund and was told that they were still awaiting a reply to their email to the billing dept. I called back on Feb 11 and was told that the check for $$$ dollars would be mailed to me. On March 28 I still had not received the refund and called them again. I was told to call their billing dept directly at 281-348-4650. This I did. Leticia in the billing dept. suggested I call Lone Star Eye Care at 281-277-8400. I explained to her that I already had and that they had suggested I call her. Leticia then said she would call them and call me back. Two days later I had not heard from Leticia, so I called the 281-348-4650 number again. This time Pamela answered. I explained the problem to Pamela. She said Leticia was on the phone with someone but that she would ask Leticia to call me back. It's been another two days and it looks like I need to call her back again. read more

I have Type2 and my physician referred me to Lone Star for an examination. The wait time that day was only an hour and about 45 minutes for the testing and review by McMenemy. He stated that because I was referred by my doctor he would forward the evaluation to them. I recently needed this certificate and found that Loser Star had not sent anything. I contacted Lone Star and got a snot nosed staffer named "Alva" who did not want to hear my story and required that I file a records release form before I could get my exam results. My insurance company was billed 400 plus dollars and I could not get an exam statement from the Clinic the day of my examination. No wonder they get their money up front. The staff needs to update their customer service skills or maybe old Doc M. don't pay his help so well. Either way this company is in my rear view mirror. My GP will get a letter about this company. I agree with two other reviewers. The wait time is terrible and that shows that this is a greedy doctor's office who overbooks appointments. I had the appointment at 3 PM and I left the house at 2:20 to fight the holiday traffic to be there early to fill out the paperwork as the first time patient. I got there at 2:45 but after an hour and 15 mins of waiting, when I asked the receptionist the status, she told me I still had few more patients ahead of me and it was because they were short of technicians on duty. I asked why then they did not try to reschedule to save patients' time, she rudely asked if I wanted to keep my appt. or NOT. At that time, I just decided to leave. It was just not me. Every other patient was waiting there for at least 2 hours and the waiting room was crowded. 15-20 patients to see the one doctor at the same time. Will never recommend this doctor's practice to anyone. Total waste of 2 and half hours of my life. read more

My wife's eye doctor before we started going to Lone Star diagnose her with having high eye pressure and wanted to prescribe eye drops for the rest of her life. We decided to get another opinion from a specialist. Dr. McMenemy ran some very detailed tests (in office) and concluded my wife didn't need the eye drops. That was several years ago and we've been using Dr. McMenemy ever since. We get eye exams every year and Dr. McMenemy and his staff are very good and nice to everyone. We decided to get lasik eye surgery and everything came out great (wish we did it sooner). My wife wasn't able to take off from work and asked if they did follow ups on Saturdays, but they were closed on Saturdays. Dr. McMenemy offered to come into the office on a Saturday to check my wife's eyes after her lasik surgery. In fact, I think he and his wife were leaving on a vacation that day after he saw my wife. I've never seen a doctor do that. Very good doctor and staff. I highly recommend Lone Star Eye Care. read more

Horrible wait time, over 1 hour! Ridiculous! Fix your system!

I am very grateful for Dr. McMenemy and staff. I was experiencing severe eye discomfort due to dry eye and gradual cornea erosion for over 24 hours and needed to get in quickly. I was also a new patient. I had called many ophthalmology offices throughout Missouri City and Sugar Land for a same day appointment and no one could see me. I called this office and the nice receptionist listened to my situation and confirmed that they could get me in in the early afternoon and that they were in network with my insurance, too. My eye condition ended up being more severe than I had originally thought and Dr. McMenemy assessed the situation quickly, professionally, and thoroughly. Thanks, guys! read more

I was completely dissatisfied with the level of poor service I received from the Office Manager. She did not have my treatment approved beforehand with my insurance company and I was never informed of my costs after insurance, it was the first time I remember this ever happening. Nor was I informed that my insurance company would not cover any of the costs for my multi-focal lenses. When I called to complain she had an indifferent attitude and was like okay your not happy but it's time to pay anyway! I expressed my displeasure to Dr. McMememy and although he listened it was evident he supported the Office Manager. He is a very good Doctor, but because of this horrible experience and $6k unexpectedly out of pocket I would never return. read more

Only reason I give it two stars is because some of the staff was amazing. That office is always overbooked and don't schedule correctly, we were rescheduled twice. My husband waited for almost 3 hours to be seen, and the doctor didn't even take his time with him and basically escorted him out of the room. By the time we were checking out we were frustrated. And they never told us that the visit was going to be considered medical and that his vision plan would not be able to be used for that visit. So we ended up paying a lot because of our deductible.
