I LOVE Dr. Bulan he is a patient, caring, wonderful Pediatric ophthalmologist for my young child. Although the wait times (sometimes over an hour and a half in total wait) and other office staff here SUCK! Not all but most of the staff members are just not nice, especially the optometrist-Wanda. The prices of frames/lenses without good insurance are just through the roof. ($325 for the pair my daughter needed) so I looked online to potentially order her a pair from a website for a cheaper price- the website needed her pupillary distance but the office wanted to charge $25 to give it to me (not listed on her prescription) I was also told it "generally isn't given out to pediatric patients and would have to ask Dr. Bulan if it were ok" do they do this purposely so you have to buy glasses from them? Post covid, a lot of medical businesses became more efficient due to restriction and technology updates but when I tell you this place is so slow and inefficient. It's beyond slow! Or maybe it's the Dr having too many patients or something but, I can't count the number of times I've shown up 10-15 mins before appointment start just to wait 30 minutes to then go sit in the back waiting room. Like seriously. I get systems don't always communicate with customer portal and the in office systems, so we have to re sign documents you could send me before I arrive or have me complete it before I'm sent to waiting room #2. But I'm checked, EARLY, send me to the back, and tell me to confirm my personal information there. Why make me wait twice? Again, What is the point of an appointment, if we not seen until an hour later?? It's a work day. I can't waste 2 hours here. Not everyone is in walking distance from this location or have PTO to take a full or half day. This place has to be more efficient. No issue with the people personality and conversationally but the system is slow. The check in to sitting with the eye doctor to finally going home. Please re-vamp this. read more

April 20, 2021 I arrived at my eye appointment on time 9:30 am! It's now 11:00 AM AND I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN DR PHAM! what makes their time any more important than my time? Waiting room is full (COVID-What's that?) and there is little customer service! Several preliminary tests were done from 9:45 to 10:10. Then I waited till 11:05 to be called to see Dr Pham. When I mentioned the long wait to the nurse she said you are seeing an Opthamologist! So??? My eyes were dilated prior to the exam but now they want me to come back again to check my eyes again to see if she will change my prescription when my eyes are not dilated. How does this make any sense I am in the middle of a process and I will go back one more time but I believe that will be it! What ever happened to customer service and respectful of each others time? As I was on my way to an appointment with one of the Ophthalmologist Wednesday, December 22nd, I received a call from one of the staff members. The doctor had an emergency and couldn't see me that afternoon. While I understand emergencies happen, the staff member was very nonchalant. Meaning, I have an eye concern and wanted to be seen prior to the end of the year. Her answer was the doctor is full until February. There is nothing we can do. Dr. Johnson is thorough - he has provided excellent care for me in the 15+ yrs that I have used him. He demands excellence from his assistants; in the one instance I witnessed where a new assistant did not follow protocol in preparing me for my exam he had her in, quickly explained the correct procedure to her, ask if she understood/had any questions & then sent her back to her duties. As a witness to this I was glad to see that this mistake was corrected immediately in a firm but caring way the young lady did not seem to be embarrassed -- problem corrected without demeaning anyone & demonstrating to me that he cared for his patients and staff too. He sincerely apologized for the 10 min delay and then thanked me for my patience. He is pleasant to be around and will take the time to explain and answer Q's. I will not ever hesitate to recommend his services to anyone (especially if you prefer an MD over an optometrist). read more

Do not go to this place! Save yourself hours of your time and find somewhere else to go! Horrible business practices! They overbook making their patients wait hours. My 96 year old grandmother scheduled earlier in the year around December and waited for 2 hours and didn't even get called back. We chalked it up to the busy holiday season and rescheduled for February. So we booked the first appointment available in the morning hoping to get called back ASAP. Well we were wrong to think that because she had to wait over an hour to even get her eyes dilated. After that it was another two hour wait to see the doctor (Johnson)! When we talked to the front fest their only reply was that "there was a lot of people." WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SCHEDULE THAT MANY PEOPLE!?! Terrible place we will be finding a new ophthalmologist. I have been going to Texas Eye Institue for 24 years now. It was great in the beginning. The wait was not too bad, and the doctor was personable and always on top of things. Now... for the past couple of years... the wait times have been ridiculous. I waited for an hour in the waiting room. Another hour and a half while my eyes dilated. Then when the female doctor saw me... she rushed the whole appointment and did not take the time to hear any of my concerns. She even tried to get me to come back the next day at the same time... when I work 5 days a week. Sadly, she didn't even apologize or care saying that "things happen". If the staff would have let me know that the wait time would be longer than normal, then I wouldn't of been as annoyed, but sadly no one warns you or updates you on time. That day, when I left, I got another eye doctor right away! I am never going back to them. It is not the same environment and people seemed to not care. Very sad. Of course, there will always be wait times ... but the environment of the workers and communication to the patients... its ridiculous. Also, Wonda who works for Vision Works there, is very cranky. Don't bother making an appointment because they will make you wait at least another hour sometimes TWO afterwards and then get RUDE if you question than ! also the doctors aren't great either they'll just give you like a steroid or tell you to use water drops without even bothering to actually figure out what the issue is then you will go end up going back on a follow up appointment with the exact same issue starting over complete waste of time there are way better places in the area!!! I was referred by my pediatrician to take my 15-month old son to a pediatric ophthalmologist at Texas Eye Institute. The whole experience was terrible. My son's eyes were dilated for the exam. As the exam started, the doctor put some instruments very close to his eyes. My son was very scared and turned his head away. The doctor became very impatient almost immediately and appeared upset that my son did not cooperate. Instead of comforting him, he continued the exam by having an office staff (appearing not medical) hold my son's head. This made the situation even worse. My son was scared and cried. The doctor then tossed his instruments on the table. I have never seen a professional behave like this. How do you expect a 15-month old baby to follow your instructions, doctor? Even an adult may feel scared after their eyes are dilated and someone put objects very close to their eyes. Immediately after leaving the exam room, I had decided to seek a second opinion from another pediatric ophthalmologist who can be truly patient, polite and professional and able to control their temper at work. It costs me almost $200 for this terrible consultation. I feel very sorry for my son for bringing him to Texas Eye Institute. To top things off, we logged into the patient portal after a few days to review the doctor's diagnosis notes, and found that the doctor did not tell us about one of the diagnoses at the time of the consultation. read more

After all is said and done I am not happy with the cataract surgery removal results. Followed up with them for a whole year appointment after appointment using eye drops after eye drops with no satisfaction of the end results. I would not recommend. read more

Feel cheated and ripped-off after a routine eye sight exam. Being new to the area we looked up the yelp reviews and set-up appointment for both kids for routine eye sight testing. The front office took our insurance information and confirmed that visit was covered under our insurance. First, for new patients $60 refraction (discounted to $45) test is mandatory not optional , everywhere else this test is optional. Second, the front office lady was rude and charged us heavy fee over $150 per kid without any explanation, being tired after spending 3-4 hours at the facility we paid the fee and left. In contrast, with the same insurance, we got our routine eye exam and refraction testing done for 'zero payment' at Costco Optical as it was covered by VSP (vision service plan) When I called billing, I was told that TEI is not on the network of VSP so they could not bill VSP. Plus, our kids were charged for medical exam as they were complaining of conjunctivitis, which is not true. Billing lady (Anna) is cooperative, but we feel cheated and expect TEI to refund us in full taking responsibility for miscommunication and misconduct. read more

I was highly disappointed when I arrived at my 8:45am appointment on 03/07/2020 in Sugarland, TX with Dr. Hipps only to find that not only was clinic cancelled that day, I was told I was not on the schedule for that day as well! There you have it America, Texas Eye Institute's argument is that I was not on the schedule. No one wants to own up to the mistake and I'm sure that he could not have had as many patients on that day, so it would not have been difficult to get to the bottom of this problem and accommodate me. Don't go see Dr. Lee. She gave me a prescription for a far sighted person when I'm near sighted. She had a difficult time making things clear and then told me to come back if the prescription "didn't work". Not once, but TWICE. Decided not to let her try for the THIRD time when she so obviously doesn't know how to do her job. Went to another opt and he was appalled. He said, "I know you've been driving badly because I know you can't see." And what do you know...I can see clearly now! read more

Worst customer service I've seen from a doctor's office! They kept losing tracks of my contacts. Did not remind me about driving safety while eyes dilated. When i complained it to the manager later. she said that's because everybody's eyes reacted differently(!) instead apologizing to me. He also saw my son and my husband and even though my husband had recently had a stroke and couldn't speak, they were all so kind and patient with him. Worst Customer Service. My mother-in-law (senior citizen) came in for a follow-up after her eye surgery. MA gave her a packet of information that apparently they had reviewed with her in the back patient room. After their meeting in the back, she was told to wait in the lobby for a script. Upon receiving the script, my mother-in-law had some questions about the follow-up care. The MA was annoyed that she had to repeat the instructions. Her tone and statements were, "like I told you before", "again, like I said", and "you need to read the bold print". She had no right to belittle or demean my mother-in-law who is standing there with one eye patched up. If a patient wants to make sure they understand the postoperative care, the MA should explain it as many times it takes to make patient education successfully. They need to leave their bad bedside manners at home. read more

October 21, 2013 To Dr. Michael Koop and his office staff: I took my 83 year old mother to your Sugar Land office today for an eye exam. I am not sure what transpired in the office because I stayed in the outside waiting room. I do know that she began to cry as soon as we got in the car to go home. She said that she had never been treated so rudely in her entire life. She says that the entire office was uninterested and indifferent to her. She says the doctor did not introduce himself and she isn't really sure she saw the right doctor. She says the doctor ignored her questions and never looked at her eyes. She says that he never mentioned her partially detached retina and wasn't interested when she did. I know my mother can be difficult, and I agree that some of this probably did not happen in the way she says. In addition to having poor vision, she also has hearing problems. However, I thought you might be interested in the thoughts and perceptions of an elderly patient. You can use or discard this information as you feel appropriate. read more

Dr. Johnson is the best!! I've been to numerous eye doctors and I never feel like I am satisfied or leaving with the truly correct prescription. Dr. Johnson is honestly the only doctor that has made me feel confident in my contact prescription...and not to mention he's fast and great at his job!! He was very knowledgeable and guided me through the process from start to finish. He made sure I was comfortable with everything and also kept me informed every step of the way. I was even the first appointment of the day and still had to wait in the exam room for 30 minutes before the doctor saw me because he was 'talking to a colleague'. I've been going to Texas Eye Institute for almost 18 years. My wife has been going there with me. We've always had good service! Sometimes the waits are long but...no different than any other doctor in Sugar Land. Usually not very long at all. My wife had cataract surgery in both eyes about 9 or 10 years ago. No problems. I've been informed that I too will need cataract surgery but...my cataracts were not ready yet! I knew that. I had no problem seeing so why get the surgery? Then, this past October or November, I noticed trouble driving at night and in the rain. I went for a regular check-up and was told, "It's time. Whenever you're ready". Dr. Koop had done my wife's eyes. He did mine in January. Two weeks apart for each eye. I've had NO PROBLEMS. It was a great experience. I was actually looking forward to this so I could see better. Now I can! I was, and continue to be, very pleased with Texas Eye Institute. I've seen several doctors there over the years but mostly Dr. Michael Koop. As I said, they've always treated me very well. I'll continue to use and recommend them! read more

If you're considering making an appointment, please consider how much your time is worth. Every time I've had an appointment, I've waited at least 1 - 1.5 hours to see the doctor. When making my last appointment, I specifically asked for the best time to come in for a shorter wait. My suspicion of this group over booking appointments was confirmed at my last visit. While waiting to be called back for my 8:30 am appointment ( I was on time if not early.) A gentleman came in late and at the front desk announced that he was there for his 8:30 appointment with the same doctor I was there to see. Although I felt miffed, I had a wait and see what happens attitude. It was still a full hour plus before I saw the doctor. He must of had a bad morning and didn't appreciate me asking questions about what he was prescribing. When I brought up what we had previously discussed, he was argumentative and defensive. Perhaps he takes poor notes being in such a hurry, cramming in as many patients as he can. I was chastised for "seeing another doctor" while I was NOT in this doctor's care. The other physician had every right to offer me a prescription. I then confronted Mr. Demigod eye doctor, telling him I didn't appreciate always having to wait sooo long to see him and that it was disrespectful. He made excuses for the "way the system works" as he calls it. He believes the system is being altruistic by seeing as many poor souls as they can every day even when he has to stay late. Poor guy. I certainly understand that schedules can go awry, yet, this is a problem EVERY time. It's more about them pushing the herds of people through. I think the staff is under a lot of pressure, especially those at the front desk. Not always super helpful but it seems they are caught up in the insanity of their employer. The ladies that assist in the exam rooms have always been kind and pleasant! Dr. Johnson (Dr. Demigod) thinks if people don't go to this group of doctors, they'll receive poor care. WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN! My 6 year old son was seen by Dr. Glenn Bulan today and that doctor did not even spare time checking his eyes thoroughly. He had him read 3 lines and that was it! And told my son to "guess" three times on the three lines that he had shown. Why would you have a patient guess? Isn't it the reason why we take our kids to the so called eye doctor??? A letter "F" to a person that has a problem with his vision, may look like a P or another letter. Change the lens strength instead of having the child guess again, not once but three times. He attempted to change it to numbers since my son can not guess the right letter then after he said 6 for a number 5, he had him guess again!! Then after mere three lines, he then stated "Oh! he needs glasses". How did he figure that out! He did not even check the other eye? I made a comment by asking how is the left eye coz I know it was not checked! He then answered back by saying that the left is worse than the right! I have been to a LOT of eye doctors in my life but have never encountered somebody like this doctor. Upon coming in he asked my son, "Do you need glasses". Isn't that the reason why we are here??? The office staff that checked me out kept saying " I am not feeling good". And did not look like she wants to be there. I work in a hospital and we never treat pt likes that. And no matter how bad you feel, keep it in and work OR maybe just call in sick. I rather would pay out of pocket than use this facility that is in my insurance!!! read more
