I made an appointment with Dr. Brian Wright. I had a concern about a vision issue that I wanted to be sure wasn't related to my previous cataract surgery with Dr. Wright. After lots of initial testing by others (which I expected and had no problem with), I was escorted to a waiting area before seeing Dr. Wright. However, I never saw him. I saw another doctor who had a scribe. I left without seeing Dr. Wright. I find it strange that when a patient makes an appointment with a specific doctor and waits until there is an opening to see that doctor that the patient is seen by someone else. I am unsure if the doctor I saw is an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. I addition, it is important for people to know that they add a percentage to credit card payments and do not take checks over $100. Fortunately I have a debit card. read more

I came to Mann and saw Dr. Brian Wright after my eye specialist retired. I had seen another doctor that took my doctor's place and he said it looked like cancer in my left eye and to come back in six months. No one wants to wait six months to know. Dr. Wright has been very thorough with his assessment of my eyes and what's going on with them. I really like Dr. Wright and his professional work. Ten stars. read more

I had a cataract evaluation at Mann-Sugar Land yesterday. The building and facilities are the State-of-the-Art. Medical assistant Mary Lynn was outstanding. However I was surprised to learn I have to pay $180 for Recovery Kit when I tried to schedule a pre-surgery testing. The Mann office said that's mandatory. No payment, no surgery. I reached out to MediCare and insurance agent. The Medicare rules prohibit clinics from making non-covered supplies a condition of getting covered care. A post-op kit is not medically required, so they cannot require a prepayment as a condition of booking my surgery. It looks like Mann's policies are inconsistent with Medicare rules. FYI: This falls under:    *   CMS Anti-Coercion Rules    *   Medicare Conditions of Participation    *   Anti-Kickback / Inducement rules (if tied to referrals or co-management)    *   Prohibition against charging for "bundled" services that Medicare already covers My agent advised: yes -- forcing a non-covered kit could violate Medicare billing rules. Before I scheduled my appointment with Mann Eye for Lasik, I sought out all necessary information. My doctor recommended Mann Eye as the best option as he said that some of his patients experienced complications elsewhere. During my pre-visit a medical assistant conducted my examination and the optometrist confirmed I was a perfect candidate for Lasik. The surgery counselor was nice and provided me with a pamphlet, assuring me that she would schedule off all of visits with my doctor and be available via call or text for any questions that I may have. However, one week before my lasik, I was feeling anxious not having any additional information with the surgery fast approaching. I contacted the counselor via text and call to which she took an entire day to respond and proceeded to tell me all of the information was in the pamphlet. On the day of the surgery, the front office staff was welcoming, and provided me with a goodie bag. Unfortunately, the surgeon treated me as a mere transaction. When I notified him of my concerns during the procedure, his responses were not comforting at all. Thankfully a girl that worked in the office was called in to hold my hand and calm my nerves. However, I really did not appreciate the fact that the surgeon was being snarky towards me whilst operating on me. Mann Eye claims that you'll have perfect vision right away, you can go back to work as usual, and continue your daily life... LIES. After you pay, the truth comes out. It took me about 2-3 weeks to recover, and I ended up with 20/25 vision. I was told that lasik will not fix my astigmatism. I was told that 1 of my eyes needs a bit more correction (which is covered in my warranty) however it would thin my eye out and it is not recommended. All of this... AFTER YOU PAY. read more

I wanted to share my recent experience with Mann Eye Institute to help them improve their services and save new patients from getting looted. While I initially believed that the visit would be covered with no out-of-pocket expenses, I encountered unexpected charges after my visit. My family and I had scheduled appointments for annual check-ups, and my own appointment included a diabetic eye checkup. At the facility, I was asked to sign a consent form on a tablet, which included multiple lengthy documents that I did not thoroughly review. Unfortunately, the institute did not communicate the potential additional costs associated with the services. After our visit, I was presented with a bill totaling $198 for my appointment, $39 for my wife's visit, and an additional $39 for my child's visit. The explanation for these charges was somewhat unclear. They stated that the diabetic eye checkup I had was not considered a regular check-up, and additional charges were applied. For my wife and child, they mentioned some eye images were taken, which were not included in their annual check-ups. I believe that transparent communication about potential additional costs should have been provided before the appointments. While I understand that specific tests or services might not be covered by insurance, it's essential for patients to be informed of potential expenses in advance to make informed decisions about their healthcare. I hope that Mann Eye Institute can work on improving their communication and ensuring that patients are well-informed about any potential out-of-pocket expenses before their visits. Clear and transparent billing practices would go a long way in ensuring patient satisfaction. I will not recommend anyone to go there, if you are going then don't sign any consent form. I was a little nervous walking into the clinic for my surgery as I had heard nightmares about dry eyes and floaters. Not sure if it was pure luck or the brilliant work of Dr Wright but I now have better than 20/20 vision and no dry eyes! I'm loving not wearing contacts or glasses!! I was pleased with my eye exam visit. This was my first time here and everything went smoothly. The office staff was very professional and helpful, especially Emily. I didn't wait too long and was able to schedule easily. Location is convenient, easy to find, and parking is free in the garage! Dr. Tan was very compassionate, patient, approachable, professional and thorough. I believe the tech was Celeste? and she was very good as well. I appreciated how caring and compassionately she handled my initial exam. I was very thankful for the kind, compassionate care from Jamie (Clinic Administrator) who went out of her way to help me get my needs met. I observed her multi-tasking while providing exceptional customer service! I was not very impressed with the selection of glasses to choose from. Although there were a lot of glasses, I could not find the cat eye type glasses that I was looking for. Thus, I had to take my prescription to another location to get my glasses. I was not aware that I needed my PD measurement in order to order glasses online. When I came back to the office another day to ask for my PD measurement, the optician advised that they do not provide the PD measurement unless you get your glasses from them, due to liability. This was very disappointing and presented quite a dilemma for me since they did not have any glasses that I really wanted. That was quite a little ordeal and a lesson in PD measurement. This surgery has literally changed my life. I had the most incredible experience at Mann Eye Institute in Sugar Land. The thought of lasers in my eyeballs scared the living sh*t out of me. I've had glasses since the age of 9, and contacts since I was a teenager. My poor vision was just a part of my life, and glasses are cool anyway. While I will always think that glasses are cool, do you know what's even cooler? Always being able to see clearly!! I started thinking about having the surgery about a year ago. If you are looking for a Doctor for Lasik surgery look no further. I had my eyes done several years back, and the experience was excellent. From when I walked in the receptions were friendly and accommodating. I hate having anything near my eyes or face, so as I was taken to the back to have my eyes tested I was nervous. The lady assisting me was friendly and helpful as to reassure me that there in worries. After everything was done I sat down had a great consultation with the lady who sets up the appointment and payment plans. She went over everything and even called me back when I forgot to call her. Always available to speak with, up until the day of my surgery. On the day of surgery it couldn't have gone better. Everything was done in a blink of an eye (literally). The process was quick and easy. The only thing that was more than I expected was how sensitive my eyes were and how watery they were, but that was understandable as I have had sensitive eyes all my life. I had a very easy time parking and finding the office, and I felt that I was able to get in and out with very little waiting time (less than 5 minutes). If you are like me, you are probably reading reviews to see any negatives to doing this procedure, at this location, with this doctor, or with this team. This isn't one of those. I was pretty nervous about getting Lasik. Let's face it, laser beams and eyeballs aren't exactly a wine and cheese pairing on every other day. The team at Mann Eye in Sugarland was phenomenal. Laurie was my first contact and did a great job explaining to me the procedure, experience of the doctor, and any (and all) of the other questions and concerns I had before being brought in for a consultation. When I came in, the consultation went smooth as butter. Did the standard vision testing and was introduced to my doctor, Dr Wright (a fellow Aggie, WHOOP!). I had an incredibly comfortable feeling with him. After Dr Wright came in Dr Tan gave a second opinion after looking at the tests and confirmed that I was a good candidate. Credit a lot of me following through with this procedure with Laurie's great energy and follow up. A few times I thought about not proceeding but she answered all questions truthfully and made me at home. I was shocked that I only had to have my contacts out for a week prior to the procedure. I had read plenty longer times with all of my 'expert googling'. The day of the procedure went amazingly well. Another follow up eye exam to confirm previous data, and then a follow up meeting with Dr Tan to make sure there weren't any other questions. Once the laser suite was ready, I was ushered in. Fear gripped me a bit at this point, but then as I laid down on the table, Mary handed me a nice stuffed animal to hold onto, haha. Surprisingly, it really did help. Laurie, Dr Tan, Dr Wright, and Mary were all wonderfully supportive as I freaked out. I can't begin to explain the thoughts racing through my head, but before I could finish them, the procedure was over. I couldn't believe it, like 13 seconds an eye or something. I could instantly see far off distances better, I was shocked. The only way to describe the feeling afterwards is sharpness but through a dirty windshield. I could make everything out, just a light haze. I went right across the street to the hotel and checked in, and passed out. I woke up about 4 hours later and couldn't believe how much my vision had improved during that time. My left eye, I couldn't even tell I had a procedure, my right eye still had a little bit of a 'eyelash stuck under the eyelid' sensation but I knew that was from drying out. As the evening progressed, it went away. My follow up appointment in the morning with Dr Tan put my better than 20/20 and on my way to 20/15 hopefully before my next follow up appointment. Picture this, Me, the self-proclaimed serial procrastinator, waiting until the last day of open enrollment to choose a Lasik provider. Enter Mann Eye Institute. After hearing the radio ads and reading the reviews online I decided to give them a call and see if they could *pretty please* squeeze me in, like, TODAY. Lucky for me, they did. From the first phone call to the complimentary consultation, I was always met with kindness and a smile. Dr. Janes quick examination went as smooth as buttah and Jennifer's thorough A to Z explanations of everything from the actual procedure to my financing options left me comfortably informed and ready to sign on the dotted line. Fast forward to the day of my procedure (yesterday). Upon arrival I was greeted by the receptionist who very sweetly and enthusiastically asked me if I was ready for what was to be a life changing procedure. Still feeling a bit uneasy about lasers + eyeballs + me, I nervously answer "Yes!" and proceed to devour 3 dumdums in the waiting room while anxiously awaiting my turn. After what seemed like an eternity (but was really only 10 minutes or so) my name is called, the last few pre examinations are done, and swiftly we move along. Seated in a comfy recliner, I am fitted with a lovely blue hair cap, a plethora of eye drops are administered and I meet the very personable Dr. Wright, who introduces himself and confidently reassures me that we are fully locked, loaded and ready to kick some serious near-sighted you-know-what. Now, for the fun part. Finally feeling relaxed (and a little clumsy) from the valium, I am ushered into the OR and we begin. I lay down on the table/bed/chair thing, more drops are given, and here we go. Laser # 1, pressure, swivel, laser #2, pretty lights. Repeat. And that's it, folks! Dr. Wright and company were so great about talking me through the entire process that; honestly, it felt like it was over before it even began. After the procedure, I was fitted with my "superhero eye shields" and sent home to sleep it off. Over the course of the next 24 hours I barely felt a thing. From time to time it felt like I had an eyelash stuck in my eye or something, but it was nothing a few eye drops couldn't fix. No pain, no redness - no nothin'! As for the results; it's the next day, I've just had my follow up appointment, and guess what? I have 20/20 vision! Coming from someone who's had "four-eyes" since the 3rd grade - let me tell you - IT IS AMAZING! From street signs to shampoo bottles, I get giddy like a little schoolgirl just reading stuff. When people say it's "the best money they've ever spent" - it's not an exaggeration. So, if you're on the fence about getting Lasik done - let me assure you - it is literally one of the best decisions you will EVER make and the Mann Eye Institute is THE place to go! I made an appointment with Mann Eye Institute for a routine eye exam for two reasons. The first being the "great" reputation and the second being they are a preferred provider on my vision insurance. Upon arrival I was promptly greeted and asked to complete some paper work and asked about my insurance. The lady advised me of my copay and charges for contac lens fitting. I then advised her that the contac lens fitting was covered by my insurance and she argued with me so I just let it go. Durign the exam I asked for the disposable lenses that you leavve in for a month. The "optical technician" advised me that you should not leave anything in your eye for a month and the hazards related to doing such. I advised him that someone makes them and I know people that use them and I wanted them! In the end I still did not get what I wanted. After I arrived home I looked at my insurance coverage and I was correct, my lens fitting was covered. I called them promptly the next day to advise them of the issue and was told that I would have to wait 3 to 6 weeks for a refund if one was due! WTF, 3 to 6 weeks? This is my money that you are effing with! I called back later to discuss further and was transferred to the billing department where I had to leave a message. I came here for the first time on the day my mom got her lasik surgery. By the way all the staff was talking to my mother it seemed as if they had known each other for years. I forgot the name of the staff member but she stood by me the entire time my mom was getting her procedure. There was a window where I could watch and see the details of the procedure on a television screen. The kind staff member explained each step to me as it was done. After seeing their hands on customer service I began to use Dr. Janes as my optometrist. He and another staff member that works with him were kind enough to explain why and how my contacts work rather than slapping some contacts on me and calling it a day as my previous optometrist would have done. I am very pleased with their service and their explanations that I even had my father and brother start using Dr. Janes, which I obviously highly recommend. read more

After being almost blind for the majority of my life (Left eye= -8, Right eye= -7.5), I never thought I would say this but I have PERFECT VISION!!! I was always hesitant to have Lasik done, and now I honestly don't know what I was afraid of. I am however happy that I waited until I found not only the right doctor, but also an office that has the latest in Lasik technology. Because of this, my surgery and recovery were both quick and absolutely painless, without any of the side effects I've heard others complain about. Beware, misleading information - don't let them talk you into eye surgery that you don't need yet! Mann Eye in Sugar Land gave me misleading and sometimes inaccurate information. I asked many questions before I went into the surgeries attempting to make sure I knew the risks. If I only knew then what I know now, ... I would NOT have had surgery for a slight amount of cataract that Mann Eye discovered. My advice to people with mild cataracts is to wait until your vision is 20/30 or perhaps worse! 20/30 vision occurs when you can see at 20ft what someone with normal vision can see at 30ft. Also seek second opinions from eye doctors that do not receive money from Mann Eye surgeries. My doctor at Todays Vision did receive money for follow-up visits after the eye surgeries, and now it makes me wonder if he was totally objective with his recommendations. Recovery times of a couple of days for the surgeries were implied, and then I would be able to see better than ever. I experienced gradual improvement over months and months; from being practically blind (20/100) one week after my surgery, to the 20/30 which I attained about one year after the initial surgeries. I still have 20/30 now, almost two years from the initial surgeries. During each follow up visit I was informed that due to one thing or another it would take longer for me to recover. I now understand that conditions, such as thin cornea, dry eyes, and astigmatism correction tend to be more problematic. People with conditions like these should be told the real recovery and potential risks for their circumstances and not misled to thinking that the eye surgeries are always quick and practically risk free. I paid nearly $10,000 for vision that is significantly worse than the vision I had with glasses before the procedures nearly two years ago. This is primarily due to the multifocal Restor lens implants that Mann Eye touted as being so wonderful. My multifocal Restor lenses create huge multiple rings around lights at night. Anything emanating light (headlights, streetlights, stars, computer monitors, smart phone, Kindle book reader) has numerous halos, ghosts and blurred edges. Mann Eye incorrectly said that the roughly 30% of people that have the "rings" issue would have that problem for only a couple of weeks. I continue to see the rings as strong as ever since the surgeries nearly two years ago. Other eye specialists (more accurately) say that 30% of people have long lasting problems with the rings, not just for 2 weeks. Dr. Wright said, "(ReStor's) ... focal length for near is 50 cm, and this is where it is sharpest." (In layman's terms, this provides the sharpest image for near distances at 50 cm, about 20 inches, which is typically good for computer work). I got a near distance of 12 inches or less, way too close to my computer monitors to see images clearly. Clarity changes with distance from the monitor; a second focal distance occurs about 4 feet from the monitor. So computer images are typically fuzzy, particularly since I would prefer sitting about 24 inches from the monitors. When I asked before the surgeries, Mann Eye informed me that I could have the lenses replaced with another kind if the Restor lenses did not work out. BUT they did not tell me that replacement surgery would typically have to occur within a few weeks of the initial surgery. Furthermore, replacing the lenses would be extremely dangerous if done after Yag surgery, which removes the natural membrane behind your original lens. They did not explain this at any time before my Yag operations. Because I didn't know these facts, I proceeded with the Yag surgery, and I'm forever stuck with the problematic lens. I asked the doctors, operating nurses, the surgery counselor, and the optical technical staff, 'what was the probability that additional procedures are needed after lens implant surgery?" Answers varied from 1% of the time, to 40%, to 60%, to 90%. This indicates a lack of understanding of their results! The doctors (at Mann Eye and other non-related doctors) say that my eye surgeries were "successes" in that my eyes healed well, and the lenses are centered correctly. But if that's so, why is my vision so poor now? It makes me want to cry every time I really think about it. The multifocal lenses significantly decrease the "constrast" that you see and image edges are not sharp. In daylight, some objects are fine, but many objects near and far, are fuzzy and blurred. The reading glasses that have been recommended do not help. I have been prescribed Pilocarpine drops that constrict my pupils and diminish the rings I see. However the side effect is that my night vision is terrible. With age, our pupils gradually open less wide in dim light, so I guess being bothered less with the rings and halos as I grow older is one thing to look forward to. read more

First things first: I got my lasic here about 4 years ago and if I have inly the best memories about that. I wouldn't have come back otherwise. It was actually a very easy thing to do, no pain at all and they managed to get me in and out without any fear. So, with my good experience in mind, I bring my whole family there for their eye exam. It's really a pleasure to go there! Holly at the front desk always has a warm welcome and is perfectly prepared, knows our copay etc. and she explains everything very well. I find this especially important since I had bad experiences with that at a different eye doctor. Today I came in with my two teens. Stacy, Sandra and Mary took great care of each of us in different rooms. The rooms are always clean and nice (I've seen otherwise at doctors office next to Walmart, that's why I mention it) and the exam was very professional and friendly. Dr. Tan is fantastic! He is so nice and he explaines everything to my kids, even lets them take a look into my dilated eyes which they found very exciting. HORRIBLE experience! I have vision insurance and $150 to use towards contact lenses. I even verified this benefit with my vision insurance. Mann Eye said they were not able to see this benefit on their end, so they called my vision insurance to verify benefits and they said 'yes she has $150' but Mann Eye said since they couldn't see this on their end they would not order contacts for me and that I needed to take my RX somewhere else. I was planning on getting Lasik from them in 3-6 months however, after this horrible experience with their rude, unhelpful staff I will NOT be using this provider any more!!! read more

I heard about Mann Eye from a couple of my friends who had gotten lasik done there. I went in for a lasik consultation and within a couple days was able to schedule the procedure. All the staff is so kind, experienced, and helpful. They answer all your questions and concerns before you even ask. The facility is also very clean and professional. I went in for the exam and a lady started doing my whole eye exam. After about 15-20 minutes of the exam I asked her who she was and informed her that my appointment was with Dr. Janes. She stated she is the Medical assistant for Dr. Janes and he will see me after she is finished with my eye exam. She proceeded to fully examine my eyes as though she was the optometrist. She spent close to 25-30 minutes examining my eyes. After she finished she informed me that my number has not changed much and was pretty close to my previous number. I was shocked that my eye exam was fully done by the MA instead of the optometrist. After about 5 minutes and Dr. Janes came to see me. I asked him why my exam was fully performed by a MA instead of him. He stated he is a part of a medical group and this is the "model" that works for their practice. He then stated that he will check my eyes to make sure the prescription that the MA had stated was correct. He spent all of 4-5 minutes checking my eyes and informed me what my prescription was. I have been going to optometrists for years and this is the first time that my full eye exam was done by the MA instead of the optometrist. I still have not figured out if Dr. Janes is incompetent, lazy or just idiotic to have his patients fully examined by a MA. I do not agree with his "MODEL" and if I was warned my eyes would have been checked by a medical assistant rather than a optometrist would have gladly taken by business elsewhere. Please be warned that if you are planning to see Dr. Janes, he will spend approx 4-5 minutes checking your eyes and all other work will be done by his medical assistant. read more

So I didn't get my LASIK done by Mann Eye but with Diagnostic Eye Center. They use the same facility to do the procedures which is why the price is probably lower. This location is in the middle of the town center on the second floor so who ever takes you to have the procedure done has plenty of things to do if they don't want to actually watch the procedure (which they can if they want). It has a modern look and everything looks very new and clean. The machines that did my procedure are the newest technology with the intra-lace and wave. Wi-fi is also available for people waiting. Whole prcedure was less than an hour. Place was easy to get to and top notch. read more

I had an issue while travelling to Texas for. SOUTH CAROLINA eith double vision in my left eye ( I ha e lens implants). I called my doctor at hom.e and she told me to find a Doctor in this area. I called Mann and they got me In immediately. Dr.Tan gave me a complete exam and fitted me with a contact lens to correct the problem. The staff was amazingly professional ,friendly and caring . This office is amazing. I cannot say enough about them. Starting with my consultation: As soon as I arrived, I felt good about it. I was taken back for normal testing after about 10 minutes. I asked several questions and all of them were answered in depth. I was not rushed at all. Everyone was very patient and nice. I was lucky enough that Dr Wright was in the office on the day of my consultation. It was nice to meet him and his surgical staff and know who was going to be taking care of my and performing my procedure. He answered all of my questions and made me feel so much more at ease. I was a total nut case. People have been telling me to get lasik for about 10 years now and I have always been too scared. I felt much better after my consultation. I was given 2 prescriptions and directions to follow the day before the procedure, as well as after the procedure. The day before, I had to use antibiotic drops 3 times. The only negative was that occasionally I could taste it. Like swallowing perfume, yuck. The day of the procedure: I arrived at 1:02pm. I signed my paperwork and was called to the back. The same test was done that was done the day of my consultation. I was given Ibuprofen and Valium. I then went to the exam room to see Dr. Janes. He checked my prescription again and answered all of my questions. I then went to the secondary waiting room for surgery prep. She put a "hair net" type of thing on me and cleaned my face along with some drops. She really took the time to explain everything to me as far as the procedure. Every step. I was then taken into the LASIK suite. It's very cold and the lights are dim. I laid down on the bed and they immediately put numbing drops in my eyes. Everything went VERY quickly. They swiveled the bed under one of the machines and all I could see was very bright, LED looking, lights. Dr Wright covered my left eye with a black patch and put a plastic circle over my right eye. Because I didn't have any glasses or contacts, this was all a blur. I felt quite a bit of pressure for about 25 seconds or so and it was over. Then he did the same to my left eye. The nurse put drops in my eyes multiple times throughout the time of my procedure. I was then moved under the other machine. Again, one eye was covered while the other was being operated on. Dr Wright explained what he was doing, (putting something to hold my eye open, drops, etc.). He Just told me to focus on the green light. There was a small green light in the middle and red fuzzy lights around it. I just stared straight at it. I started to smell burning which was odd to me. After about 30 seconds my right was done and they had moved on to the left eye. After they were done I asked about the bad smell and they explained it was just the laser. More drops were added to both eyes and I was done. They helped me up and I walked into the exam area across the hall. Dr. Wright took a look at my eyes, the nurse taped some plastic protectors around my eyes and we left. I got into the parking garage and my husband asked me if I could see. So I looked at my phone and saw that it was 1:43pm. SO CRAZY!!! Crazy that I could see and even more crazy that it only took such a short time!! It wasn't clear vision by any means. I could see, but it was definitely fuzzy or hazy. Everyone had told me to go home and go straight to sleep to avoid any discomfort for the next few hours. I came home and took 2 benadryl. I was only able to sleep about 30 minutes and loud noises woke me up. It was VERY uncomfortable when I woke up. I felt like I had an eyelash or something in both eyes and I was afraid to open them. I had my husband put wetting drops in to see if it would help, which it did, a little bit. I knew I wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep, so I took some pain medicine to help me feel better and hopefully take a nap. It helped! I woke up at 6:30pm with no pain or discomfort at all. I could see pretty good too. Still a little hazy and light sensitive, but that's to be expected. It's now been almost 3 weeks and I am just amazed at the fact that i do not need to put in contacts or wear glasses to be able to type this review! IT WAS SO PAINLESS AND EASY.
