Ok, My first time in Texas and first time at this track. May I preface by saying, my family are horse racing owners and breeders on the west coast. That being said, my expectations were a bit hit and miss here. But mostly a fantastic experience. I love that it's exquisitely beautiful and very clean. I love that staff is formally dressed to impress! Collared shirts and all, it allows the guest experience to feel better. The cream of the crop though is the trumpet guy. He was everywhere and making people feel really special, by playing and getting the crowd to sing, he's really magnificent. A stand out to all other tracks, as nobody has what he does! The aircon is fabulous, so you can feel comfortable the entire day! The food service stations were helpful and nice all great! Each employee has a specific job , so nobody will help you if it's outside their job we discovered, as in helping find seats, getting programs, where's the ice cream, where do we enter for premium parking? All questions we had a tough go of. I wish there were umbrellas out front for shade, I wish more tables and chairs ground level inside, I wish there was a pony station to pet the ponies? But no. Another surprising thing I saw was a pony rider, while waiting on the track, smoking a cigarette! One cinder flick in the air onto a horse or person is not safe at all. Am really shocked this is allowed. Totally loved the "car wash" to the side for the horses who just finished, what a treat to see and treat for the horses, people say they love it. Could be good for marketing! Speaking of which, in my week there, most locals where I went, grocery restaurants gas stations didn't know that track existed! It's a marketing thing but maybe big Texas track doesn't need the money, not sure. Houston has the very best marketing team. Perhaps get some pointers! Now, this is by far another best, the track announcer! He's really the best, he talks loud enough and slow and has the most kind and caring voice of all. Most track announcers act like they've had ten gallons of coffee, not this guy, he's like everyone's loving grandpa! He keeps everyone up to the minute, and we just happed to be there with the inclement weather closure and the race collision and he was cool as a cucumber! Another one of a kind. And then lastly, security. Top notch, they make sure you are accounted for with proper ID and all, it likely any horses here will be tampered with or stolen, fat chance! And the outriders, again top notch safety, they secured the loose horses that fell super quick, they are constantly on the lookout for safety, getting ponies in line organized for each race, for a guest it looks so well organized! We had a great night at Silks. This was our first time visiting. There was a mix up with the table we had reserved but they made it right immediately. It wasn't super busy so it was an easy fix. Pay attention to where you're seated if steps are an issue. All of the food in the buffet was very good. There was a carving bar with prime rib and turkey. There was a make to order pasta bar. And salad bar. Plenty of food and you could graze all night. I think the buffet close just before the second to last race. Non alcoholic be enrages were included. Our waiter wasn't that attentive once he knew we weren't drinking from the bar. But we did ask for a carafe of soda and it all worked out. Will definitely visit again. read more

I took my little ones to check out horses racing. Because we went on Dollar Day ($1 hot dog, small popcorn, water bottle, fountain drink, and Miller Lite can), it was extremely packed. You'll have to park and walk far, but they do offer $5 valet. It was easy enough to place bets as they had terminals all over the place. However, there were only four lines to cash out your winnings, which is unusual. They really should open up more cashiers or did I miss them? Hot dogs were just hot dogs. Don't get the pizza as it tasted like cardboard. I might try the taco bowl next time. read more

I have visited this park a couple of times and have always enjoyed the experience. The only things I wish were a bit different is you have to pay extra for the booklet that gives instructions on how to enter your bets and what they mean. I think that should be standard and explained on a poster board above the terminals. And the concession could be a bit better with more options. Other than that watching the horses is fun. The place is kept clean on the inside and outside areas. The customer service is okay, too. Definitely a place for a relaxing evening after work or to start off your weekend. read more

Dollar day is the biggest ripoff!!! Only one person serving beer and 2 for food...you will spend half of the night in line. We waited about an hour to get in and then an hour to get a beer. Don't know if I will ever be back. read more

What a cluster. Prepaid valet 1 hour wait- failed. 1.5 hour in line for food to find they ran out in 3rd race-fail. False Fire alarms GP fire marshall take note.--failed. Tried to upgrade tickets onsite- failed. Still selling tickets to families thinking they will get food and drink after race 7-failed. Not one positive person in valet line at end- failed. Reserved two seats at Silks restaurant on level four for my husband and I to enjoy the races since it was our first time at this race track. I also paid for 2 books and preferred parking online. Total came to $134.00. I seen post that mentioned how the food was not worth the $55.00 price tag. Well they were spot on. Sitting in the 4th level was amazing, great views. Never having to get in line to buy tickets with them having people that will come to your table to print out your tickets. Waitresses were very attentive, coming by to clear your plate and filling up your drinks often. They were all amazing, but the food I felt could have been much better. The macaroni and cheese I thought was the best thing at the buffet. Didn't care for the chicken thighs, ribs or the prime rib at the carving station, so I settled for the chicken strips. Desserts were decent as well as the salad bar, but no way did I feel I got my money's worth, also no, drink specials on this level. The whole experience was worth trying. Next time we're just going to probably pay for the level 2 or 3 seating and buy our own food from the concessions. I didn't win any of the races, but it was just fun being here, seeing the beautiful horses in person. read more

Lone Star Park is a great place to go for a day or night out and to do something different. I recently attended an event in Silks on the fourth floor of Lone Star. It is a beautiful place to have an event. The staff was friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The bars were having issues with the credit card machines but they were getting drinks out as fast as they could. Races here are a lot of fun as well. The horses are beautiful and there is an outdoor paddock in the back you can go look at them. The suites are very nice and jazzy, but Silks is great too or just going and sitting outside on the first floor is great too. Go gamble on some horses and have some fun! read more

VERY disappointed this year in the Silks Lounge for Mothers Day. 1st the food was NOT good. Way less options AND more expensive than years past @$90 a person! The workers refilling the stations were rude and far more interested in talking to each other than assisting. Dropping dishes in the warmers causing hot water to slosh everywhere then not cleaning it up. We've been coming for 18 years excluding Covid. This was by far our most disappointing year. Did not get to see any live horse races today(due to thunderstorms), but we still ended up having a great time! Husband & I were here attending a company party at the penthouse suite. The views of the track and small ponds were awesome! The suites were spotless with plenty of seating for the expected 50 guests. Appetizers(shrimp cocktail, charcuterie, etc) and bar service were ready & available upon our arrival. Once it was time for:the first race" the buffet was opened for the penthouse suites. We were very pleased with the assortment of items. There was prime rib, tenderloin, ham, turkey, chicken cordon Bleu, squash stuffed ravioli and plenty of desserts! Everything was so yummy! Waited in line at valet for 45 minutes then was told they were closing valet and sending everyone to general admission. Get up to Silks dining after being here for an hour just trying to get into the facility, races almost starting. Server asked what we wanted to drink, 20 minutes later still don't have it. Buffet line is 100 people deep. The rest of our table was able to get food already and the meat is dry and sides are pitiful. Well, it's been over ten years I see. Still love going, but things have changed. The 2022 season was great, lotta fun. Then before the 2023 season started, the Fed HISA commission, and the Texas Horse Racing Commission, started butting heads and everything went to crap on the betting rules. While Lone Star park patrons can still bet on out of state races, out of state bettors can no longer bet on Lone Star Park races, making the betting pools much, much lower. Some of the carry over bets are laughably small. Add to the fact that both commissions are run by people who have NO experience in horse racing, it's a clown world right now. Lawsuits are pending, but nothing coming out of them. I went the first weekend of the 2023 racing season and it was more dead than I've ever seen it. I hear they still get some good crowds, but with the betting pools, well it kinda stinks. It's like all the excitement for the regular racing bettors has been sucked out. It's not like I ever made any decent money, but at least when I did hit a bet, it was something worth getting back. I always go for the fun, but for me the fun isn't there. Also, no more smoking anywhere except outside. The Bar and Book is all non smoking now, except the outside patio. Great for some, sucks for us. The prices have gone up several notches as well. They still carry the craft beer I drink, but it's $8 a pint. Food in the B and B is still pretty decent, but also increased. However, I still like going, I hope to get a few more visits in before the 2023 season is over. I really hope the Fed and the State get their shi... ACT together and come to some agreement that will allow out of state betting on Texas tracks again. read more

Attending a Catered Luncheon today and the food was Average to say the least. The menu was prefixed. Chicken was fine, but the meat entree was tough and they gave you a butter knife to cut it! Couldn't cut, but a few small pieces and couldn't chew, was over cooked! And, the potato's were runny with no structure! Flat in texture and taste! Don't know what was paid for each plate, but won't be recommending for any of my business catering needs. Service was professional and Courteous! read more

This was my first time at a Horse racing track, I was with someone who knows a lot about the horses and so I learned a lot... Lol. The Place itself is huge and what I got to see of it was clean, spacious with a lot of places to get beverages and different types of food. Each and every employee I encountered were very nice and helpful. But what I truly enjoyed was seeing these beautiful animals and how strong and fast they are! We always enjoy a day at the races! Lone Star offers all sorts of variety depending on how fancy you want to be. Basic level is general admission with open seating outdoors and concession stand food. Upgrade to box seats with indoor seating, or to the Silks restaurant with its huge buffet on weekends (and menu service during the week). The ultimate is the Suites with the amazing buffet and open bar, plus a panoramic view of the track! Racing action is always good, and the Bar & Book has simulcast from all over the world and good happy hour specials. read more

As long as you are not some sort of degenerate gambler, there is really no beating this place for cheap, unique entertainment in Dallas County. Admission for two and premium parking might set you back all of $10. You can splurge and go upscale and not spend more than $20. Eat before you come and save even more money, or you can make reservations to get up in the restaurant--or eat concession type food. But the real draw is making bets starting at 10 cents, having a few drinks, and rooting as if your life depended on it for a horse you will likely never see again. Go ahead and pretend you had something to do with it when you get a big win. High five. Chest bump. Kiss your date--with tongue! The crowd here encompasses all types. Blue collar types looking for a cheap night out. Women in big hats and nice dresses. Young adults bored and looking for something different to do. Regulars with a pile of torn up betting slips and a dejected look. My only gripe would be that the staff/website never seem to be of much use. It seems like if you are in business your goal would be to make all your customers aware of all their options and the differences and then try to upsell them. We went on a premium day (Preakness) and had reservations in the Silks Lounge - atmosphere was amazing! My only complain is that the sections need more than one wait person and bet taker. The service was lacking because there weee not enough people to handle the customers. We would go almost an hour with empty glasses and not a person in site. The bet taker did an awesome job, however - too many people to accommodate us all. Please add more staff that can handle the crowds on premium days! read more

Love coming here in the Summer for the outdoor concerts! If you come before 8 pm the cover charge is $5 and after that it's $20. It can get pretty freaking packed here (for Randy Rogers it was absolutely nuts) so you might want to get here early to get a good spot anyway! Some people bring chairs and sit in the back. You can find people dancing, drinking beer, and singing along. I've only been inside where all of the horse betting takes place and the vendors are once. It seemed pretty clean but the lines were sooo long! I ordered nachos and they were decent and the portion was way too big to handle while standing. I personally wouldn't recommend waiting in line for food. If you're not a country music fan or hate all things country, this place (or at least the concert part) isn't for you. Sitting in the stands during the day for the horse races can get hot but it's so fun to watch! read more

Races were fun only big problem is my wife and I both have disabilities. We brought our 19 almost 20 year old daughter and her almost 21 year old boy friend. We made plans to sit on the second floor due to our disabilities. We called about reservations and said none needed ( first come first serve ) Nowhere in any on line info did it say no one under 21 on second floor. We were advised after we got here that they can't go up there. Luckily it wasn't too hot and my wife was able to handle it. We drove over 1 1/2 hours one way to sit outside.We were pleasantly told we could sit outside or leave. It's fun but not going to play that game again. Someone needs to tell us the rules. Did a grand tour of the entire park and even visited with the visitors information center; picked up a useful map. Checked in for a concert or two and even held a grad ceremony. We went here for the magical winter light festival. It is the best place to go and enjoy the wonderful Christmas lights! You are constantly looking up and around so you will be constantly tripping. Lol Be careful! This place is vary creative and joyful!! All you hear is kids laughter! This place brings the Christmas spirit out of you and even to Mr. Grinch!! I didn't do 5 stars because of the concession stand!! They ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE! Every single person working in the food area! If you hate your job that much you need to quit!! We asked for a hot dog and the lady said we are out of buns. I said when will you have some? She just said well I'm not walking all the way over where to get buns so don't buy the hot dog!!! WOW !!! A total absolute disaster! The family and I visited on May 8, mothers day. We had 3 tables for a party of 9 people in Silks, 4th level. I arrived at 12:30 PM at valet parking, which was backed up for at least 4 city blocks after a 40-minute wait one of the attendants came to my car, which was still in the street and gave me a parking receipt. From there it went downhill quickly. The buffet was terrible with lines of at least a seventy five people. When we finally received our food, it was cold. The pasta table only had one cook trying to prepare dishes for over 35 people who were inline waiting. I did not even try to get into that line. We had a four-place table, and it only contained silver service for two. Unbelievably it took 30 minutes for them to bring the additional setups. As far as the drink waitress, she came around only once as did the lady, who was taking bets. We have been going to the horse races at Lone Star Park for several years and have tickets for additional races this year hopefully this was just a one off. read more

We brought my parents here to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom, and I am frankly embarrassed that we spent $60 per person on the buffet. The food was absolutely subpar, it's something that was reminiscent of a truck stop in the middle of a desert. No one enjoyed anything that they ate, the lions were absolutely ridiculous oh, and it certainly was not worth the money that we spent. This "dining" should be about $15 a person, that's if they throw in a free drink. read more

I am an avid horse racing fan. I also love to eat and drink. LSP should be my nirvana. Sadly, the quality of racing, service and especially the food in Silks continues to absolutely plummet. The food is now below the quality of a mall food court. The exception is at the simulcast Bar and Book which continues to provide pretty good food and service. The future is bleak here. read more

Came here the past weekend to watch Kurios by Cirque Du Soleil. It was awesome! It is still playing until the end of March (2017 at the time of this review). You should check out their website, as it explains the backstory and the type of acts. Ticket prices vary from $35 to $250 (VIP experience). Paid about $110 per ticket and sat in the front row. However, we were on the far left so there were times we were unable to see the entire action. Scoping around, the tent is pretty small so as long as you get tickets that are around the center of the stage, I do not think you need to spend much on the tickets. Beware of the concession stand prices. Items such as $7 for a hot dog or $5 for a 20 ounce coke is Outrageous. The show is about 2 hours 10 minutes with a 25 minute intermission. This event is highly recommended and is great for families, esp with kids. read more
